anonimi: Will our celebrities be ever wise enough to rally support persistently for a worthy cause like awareness campaign on liver cancer that killed Alex Ekubo recently?
Abi we should continue relying on our oyinbo racist "superiors" to bail us out on such matters
The same oyinbos some still blame for our enduring underdevelopment, almost seven decades after we told the colonialists that we can do well on our own independent of them. Oyinbo went through everything we are going through today, certainly from 00AD to 1850 just before our slavery spurred the industrial revolution. Our country is not one naturally and will never be one. Once we sort this problem out development will begin. |

Ever8090: Lagos dey try shaa...but honestly with the wealth of this country Nigeria don suppose pass this stage but what can we say!..make we dey celebrate the little our leaders provide for us out of pity from the looting goin on....in my state Benue state, the current leadership has proven to me that Nigeria can develop beyond the reach of other countries if we have the right leadership. Despite the insecurity and high level of sabotage the governor is trying his best to put one or two on ground. In my village, my people has never experienced government presence before but as I speak the road which almost became unusable during raining season even by foot is almost in it's 70 percent completion stage..... Hallelujah..we give God praise and than gov Alia... I only see AUDIO wealth all over the country, PLEASE tell me about the wealth you are referring to. Break it down or make a list please I cant see it . Thank you. |

It is doing more harm because the gains from the removal are being wasted, not invested on things that concern those the money is taken from.
There is nothing fundamentally wrong in increasing taxation, which is what subsidy removal is. Consider it a 200, 300, 500 percent increase in VAT on petroleum products. Call it a massive contribution by every Nigerian to the country's treasury. Nothing fundamentally wrong with that.
What is terrible is the way such huge, enormous resources have been managed, spent and in my opinion, wasted.
When you are a member of a club, an association, church group, whatever and you are asked to make damning sacrifices, your mind immediately goes to, 'what is the sacrifice for, what will it make better, who will it help, and what is the end game of it all...'
It becomes wearisome when: There is not endgame, no direction, no metrics. The sacrifices are uneven, unjust. Remember the government often peddled the story that it is the rich that benefit from subsidy, that the poor benefit nothing.
But then the government has taken the subsidy money and further enriched the rich through all manner of contracts and commissions out of this world, for things that have little or no positive impact on the poor, the poor that have little elbow room, virtually no alternatives than to crumble financially. Just summarise it and say, NIGERIA is a society full of terrible people. Nothing can work because of Nigerians…… all government policies are frustrated by the evil greed, competition, show off, and other madness in our society. What people ? |

uchennamani: Yes, regardless of whether they win or not. And this is why BAT boys are crying. The math is simple. If Peter Obi gets the amount of votes he had in the last election and Kwankwaso retains his, the presidency will go to Peter Obi. That's if the same rigging that happened last time occur again. If the votes are well-counted, Peter Obi will win before 12pm.
