Some people has described today, the black Sunday for many governorship aspirants under the umbrella of Action Congress of Nigeria in the forthcoming election in Ondo state. Today, Asiwaju Bola tinubu and ACN chieftains will pick the candidate that will face incumbent governor; Olusegun Mimiko in the next governorship election. ACN has over 30 candidates jostling for the seat at Alagbaka.

What is your expectation. Lets discuss the prospect of ACN, Labour Party and PDP in the coming election.

AKURE – INDICATIONS emerged, yesterday, that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, may have picked the former Nigerian Bar Association, President, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, as its governorship candidate for the October 20 election in Ondo State.

This came as an in-law to the immediate past governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu and former Okitipupa Local Government chairman, Mr. Segun Ayerin and hundreds of the party’s supporters have defected to the ruling Labour Party, LP.

Sources within ACN said the leaders of the party met in Lagos, yesterday, and finally picked Akeredolu as the party’s flagbearer.

Another source said the choice of Akeredolu has been communicated to other 30 aspirants jostling for the ticket.
It was learnt that the aspirants were from five shortlisted to three before the leaders finally agreed on Akeredolu.

The three shortlisted include Akeredolu, Segun Abraham and Saka Lawal while Dr. Olu Agunloye and Professor Ajayi Boroffice were dropped by the leaders.

Vanguard learnt that the choice of Akeredolu irked two of the aspirants, who immediately after leaving the meeting, initiated plans to join other political parties to contest for the governorship positions.

This, according to sources, was after their suggestion that instead of imposition of Akeredolu, a primary should be conducted for the most popular candidate to emerge, was rejected by the leaders. The leaders, it was gathered, insisted that the seat should be zoned to the Northern part of the state.

Doesn't Kano state have alot of business people and companies?
Why can't the government tax them and use the money to provide infrastructure, just like other states.

As the federal government is building almajiri schools, they should also assist by building more (mostly in the rural areas)

faithin9ja: If Northern Nigerian Muslims do not support Boko Haram (in fact many of those killed are indeed northern Nigerian Muslims), then the local population should flush out these boko terrorists.

We were ready to occupy streets for petrol, to attack government, for our belle, but will we occupy streets for our lives? I thought northerners were not cowards and are fearless warriors. Then were are the demonstrations against these terrorists who live in our midst.

They should flush them out of their hiding holes, those Chadians, Nigeriens, who are becoming suicide bombers should be rounded up.

Or is that the Northern Nigerian Muslim secretly believes in their cause and actually supports Boko Haram?

After weeks of deliberations and speculations, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday endorsed former President of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, as its candidate for the October 22 governorship election in Ondo State.
The endorsement which took place at 3 am in the Ikoyi home of ACN’s national leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, followed several hours of meeting.

Following his selection, Akeredolu will be presented to the other 46 aspirants of the party today at the Governor’s Lodge on Isaac John Street, Ikeja, Lagos, where the party will equally solicit their support for the legal practitioner who was once the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State.

The party has also decided to formalise Akeredolu’s candidature by organising a primary in Ondo State next week, where he will be declared winner after which his name will be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

THISDAY also learnt that some of the leading aspirants in the race, including Senator Ajayi Borrofice, who currently represents Ondo North senatorial district in the Senate, Dr. Olu Agunloye and Dr. Tunji Abayomi had been duly informed that Akeredolu would fly the party’s ticket at the forthcoming poll.

THISDAY checks revealed that in deciding on Akeredolu, several factors were put into consideration, which included the edge that Akoko area in the state has over Owo.

It was gathered that since the governorship ticket had been zoned to Ondo North which comprises Akoko and Owo, the party felt it would only be fair to give the governorship ticket to Owo because Akoko has produced the incumbent deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, the senator representing the district, Boroffice, as well as the incumbent deputy speaker.

According to a source, the party settled for Akeredolu because of its conviction that being a former president of the NBA, he has all that it takes to win the governorship election, adding that he is also brilliant and has leveraged on the NBA presidency to extend his contacts at the local and international level.

THISDAY also learnt that besides his professional background, Akeredolu is believed to possess the mettle to confront the incumbent governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who is considered a tactical and formidable politician.

THISDAY also learnt that some judges, including the suspended President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami, prevailed on the ACN leadership to favour Akeredolu as its candidate.

The amendment proposal, according to the House Majority Leader, Hamisu Makoda, was to give the governor the power to pay Ramadan and ram bonuses to public officials and civil servants as he deems appropriate once in a year.

An amendment brought before the Kano House of Assembly, seeking an absolute power of the Kano State Governor to use his discretion in the payment of Ramadan and ram bonuses to civil servants in the state once in a year has been rejected by the lawmakers.

By the provision of the new amendment to the law which was signed in 2005, the governor should use his discretion to approve payment of ram and Ramadan bonuses to all public and civil servants in the state, contrary to initial provision that made it mandatory for the government to ensure prompt payment.

THISDAY observed that at yesterday’s sitting, representatives of Dambatta, Hafizu Maidaji; Warawa, Labaran Abdu; Doguwa, Salisu Ibrahim and Municipal, Salisu Maje Ahmed all kicked against the proposed amendment to the law, while five other representatives supported the new changes.

The amendment proposal, according to the House Majority Leader, Hamisu Makoda, was to give the governor the power to pay Ramadan and ram bonuses to public officials and civil servants as he deems appropriate once in a year.

Since the assumption of office of the present administration, workers associations have been demanding the government to effect payment of such bonuses in compliance with the law that made it mandatory and legal.

However, just Wednesday the government decided to seek for the repeal of the section that legalises the payment, requesting the legislative chamber to change the section of the law.
