Is there anything YOU invented or discorvered that has not been reported? Or have you discorvered someone who did that needs reporting; if so you can be the reporter cos you are also a Nigerian just like all the reporters. Aderewah: The kind of news we see clearly refleets why Nigeria is like this. No news of inventions, discoveries, books, inspiring business startups or generally useful inforation. 90% of youths don't know who Ekotie eboh is but they know all about anto. Pathetic. When a society don't care for the arts, sciences and technology, decay is inevitable. |

I had a backpack Echo blower that claimed it could blow a brick over 6ft. I bought it and tested it and even on a not so smooth driveway, it sent the brick over 6ft. I sold if after. See this video from Echo https://www.echo-usa.com/Videos/Blowers/PB-755-Power aonag: my dad had his boys wash the compund every sunday with water and broom.. the whole compound. im even making life easy for them with the pressure washer. this blower is only for leaves and bot so heavy objects or is it also for sand? |

Closer to something like this. Imagine the dirt floor to be a sloped platform with roofing material and further imagine the platform where the tank is on to be some sort of pillars so that any water drops on the slooped platform. Now imagine all this to be hidden within the roof like oga Spyder already does EgunMogaji: You mcean like this Sketchup I did?

Nice. Now if you can figure a way to roof that floor while suspending the tank above it, you will kill all future worries. By the way, I know very little to nothing about conventional building. Any coments or suggestions comes simply from an active mind. Much admiration for your work and processes. spyder880: we raised the slab about 225mm on one side to make a slope where water can easily run off to the drain on the lower side. But I still want the top to be waterproof. |

Thanks for the info. If it granite, I fear it will be slippery for a staircase. spyder880: This is granite material cut into various shapes to fit the staircase and can be done in many designs. They are very much in Nigeria and sells for about N11,000 per linear meter. I will get more pictures of different samples of it later today. |

Oga Spyder, Here is a crazy idea. Have you thought of slopping the floor so that it does not hold water while the tank is suspended horizontally with concrete pillars say 6 inches above the sloped floor? you could even have the sloped surface covered with roofing material. If you get my drift, it is worth considering from a professional perspective. spyder880: I have used tiles in the past, and even melted tar to provide a water leak proof surface, but I am looking at something new for this current work I am doing. I am exploring a method called "felting" this is a way of using rubber felt to spread and stick over the tank base act as a waterproof membrane sealing the tank base floor. |

I may know a little bit about security dogs so I am going to chime in. One of my many ventures in Nigeria before leaving over 20 years ago was the sale of high end security dogs. They were high end due to my sourcing methods and clientele at the time. That said, if you cannot train the dog yourself, have it professionaly trained in the US or overseas. AngelicBeing: Naturally I like dogs and if I have to permanently live in Nigeria, l know how to get around it, I might get dog trainers and all that stuff, chai, Nigeria security situation is precarious |

Seriously Oga Spyder; thanks for your professional inputs, this thanks also go to most of the contributing pros here. But Oga Spyder make I no lie some of your post dey take style scare me because I no say na true you dey talk. Especially we wey dey most likely build in absentia, if I talk say some of this talk no scare us, na lie spyder880: Your last sentence is the clincher, I built in a site last year, I proposed to buy vibrated blocks but the family of my client insisted that they make the blocks on site because they wanted stronger blocks, in the end, the blocks molded 70 in the block industry were not breaking much, but blocks made on site, we lost over 10% to breakage.
Reason for this is supervision, if your site block maker is not as skilled as the block industry guys, you will lose on blocks even if they produce only 20 blocks per bag of cement. Mixing is key, there is a required number of times to turn sand, a required water content, compaction method, and turn duration to get the best of blocks. EgunMogaji: One thing that I quickly realized was that I didn't have the courage to trust local blocks to do more than partition. One of us on here even said that they couldn't even hang pictures on the wall because they were falling down
I'll take my shortcuts elsewhere, not on structural.
Even for those making their own blocks, unless you supervise then you're still taking a chance. |
