Congrats Idng. I need to tap into this direct grant glory.

So I applied for my 489 in July (Front loaded PCC and medicals) and just wondering if I need to upload a NEW Nigeria police clearance as the one I submitted says "valid for 3 months"huh?

It's going to be 3 months in few days and I really wanna make sure there is no CO contact as that usually makes the processing longer.
No need bro. PCC is valid for 1year.
Hopefully you will get direct grant too.
Amen.

Thanks Oga Bellong
I will notify them accordingly.
I wasn't satusfied with recommendation by their MARA Lawyer who advised his wife to travel offshore as both applicants have to be in thesame location before the 489 visa can be lodged. And after lodgement she can return back to Australia.

Her visa wasn't denied. It was REFUSED on failure to provide proof of funancial sponsorship (another error from an agent who advised her it's not necessary since it's not her first student visa application in Australia).

The CO stated clearly that "the primary applicant presented a VALID application for study visa."
(they included marraige certificate).
It was just financials that wasnt included.

bellong:
@idNG,

1. Yes, he can add his wife to the application. The wife will need to update Home affairs so they can issue a different bridging visa.

2. No, it will not. All she should do is withdraw the appeal. 489 visa is superior to student visa.

3. Although there is no hard and fast rule about the documents to provide in proofing a union. However, wisdom requires that he provides as much evidence as possible to proof their relationship considering that the wife has been denied a study visa. Don't give the CO any opportunity to come up with a conspiracy theory.

@bellong @spyroxy1 and other gurus(everybody) in the house. I greet una ooo. Pls help my friend. Every input will be highly appreciated.

His case goes thus:

His wife's applied onshore for Australian Student visa around late Nov 2017 but the visa was refused.
Since she was onshore, she was able to lodge an appeal which can take up to a year for review.

Her husband just got ITA for 489 visa early May 2018 after applying offshore. He's kind of confused on how to go about his application due to the following reasons:

1) Can he and his wife apply together even as the wife is onshore while the husband is offshore?

2) Will the lodged appeal against the wife's student visa affect the 489 visa application if they can apply together?

3) Even though they are legally married and the marriage less than ă year old (Oct 2017), will they need to provide additional documents (apart from marriage certificate) to prove their marital status to the CO if they are able to lodge the 489 visa application together?

Luckily for me my IELTS is still much valid though i intend doing another so as to have a band 7.0-8.0 for a higher point.
please , which is saver. getting the PR before the end of the student VISA or waiting till the end and applied using the post graduate visa means.
***** the rate at which Australia policies keeps changing ehennn ......
huh undecided undecided
The earlier you secure the all important PR the better for you. If you can do this before graduation its ok.
However, you need to ensure that you have 75points in the kitty to secure 189 visa. Otherwise, finish your course and work towards 190/489 visa.

@All,

To those at the ITA stage, please ensure that the person you are nominating in your employment reference as the line manager is conversant with all your information. The person should also be willing to take necessary steps when contacted by DIBP.

Don't use someone who has been looking for a way to deal with you or doesn't want you to leave their company. It is pathetic that someone's boss jeopardized the Visa application by providing information different from what DIBP has. Application was refused on that note with millions wasted.

I am hoping that that particular application will encounter a turn around for good.

If you use your friend in the company, it is better than using a bitter boss.
Thanks for the info.
What is the Usual method of contact?

The Australian government has replaced the employer-sponsored '457 Temporary Work (Skilled) visa' with the 'Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482 visa'. The TSS visa is very similar to the 457 visa. It's simpler for employers to sponsor a visa, however, it's also more expensive. There's a 2 years minimum work experience requirement for this visa which was previously not present.

Hello prettysussie,

Truth be told, our chances are very slim. I have been on 70 points with state nomination since last year (NSW and NT) nothing positive yet as Accountant and External Auditor. Whilst waiting, I am trying English tests too to increase my points. As per having hubby write IELTS and assess credentials, it depends on how badly you want it. I wish I had that option as I have spent close to that trying to increase my English score Sis. I don't know how many points you have in English proficiency though. If you are yet to get 20 points, you may consider writing another.

As per Customer Service Manager, I really don't know much about that but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
NT considers those already in Australia for 190 subclass

You are buttressing a point abi? i do not even understand what the argument is about undecided

Sky is big enough..if you create multiples to increase to increase your chances of getting quicker ITA no issues, its on dibp website..you can read up.Just be sure to delete the others if you are satisfied and made your mind up with one ITA.

For those "simulating" with fake points they do not have, i think that is not nice and they are not been fair to themselves anyway because they will have to prove all points claimed ahead when they do the application proper. Whatever is the reason or motive behind that is what i do not know...hustle is real grin

result is out and speaking and reading messed me up with score 68 and 74 respectively
my writing and listening are 81 respectively.

My pronunciation was very very low.am so devastated now as i needed 20pts for my PR

Listening 81
Reading 74
Speaking 68
Writing 81
Oral Fluency 77
Grammar 81
Pronunciation 23
Spelling 88
Vocabulary 86
written discourse 69
You almost achieved the golden mark of 79+ in Oral Fluency (OF) which will enable you to also achieve 79+ in speaking.
From my studies OF is more important than Pronunciation P to achieve 79+ in speaking.
I need to know your methods in achieving this. To enhance pronunciation scores you can use Tongue Twisters.

Please send me a PM let's talk.

You are right about the retell lecture part.I have a format from jay though just that cos am writing the points too fast i hardly can comprehend them to put into sentence....what i discover from the mock test i wrote now is that i have to speak more fast.speaking fast is the key as it will help your fluency score...i has 67 as fluency score and 30 as pronunciation...my speaking socre was 58 which is the least from all i have done so far due to the various mistakes i highlighted....if you go to that ptestudy.com, you willl see ploads of ractise questions and most of them i saw in real test...They also have answers for them
Yeah, the material is great. Check "wenbo.tv" too. Another great piece for Retell Lecture, Describe Image and Repeat Sentence.
We won't be deterred. The speaking code must be cracked!
TravelRe: Preparing For PTE? Get In Here by idNG:

i just did moct test just now...Here is what i observed especially for the retell lecture part.I wrote most of the points but because i was writing too fast, my writing was not so clear and so i could not retell properly as it gave me some few hesitations and i was just talking without looking at the time and so i could not give conclusions and the one that i gave conclusion, i got cut off while talking.am sure it will have an effect on my grammar.
Also for describe image, i was talking too much on content instead of just giving the main trends...i could not give conclusion...its important to give conclusion.am sure it will ahve an effect on my grammar score as well but i was more confident than previous test i did.

So i guess the more you practise the mock test, the better confident you are. Also i was more faster in the reading aspect.
cc Azy123 Bamz
Nice work.
For retell lecture I use the format recommended by Steven Fernandez in his book the "Ultimate Guide to PTE Academic."
This is the template I use:

-The lecture was a stimulating speech (given by the speaker)/(between two individuals) on...

-The lecture described in great detail...

- Another important point covered in the lecture was...

-In conclusion the lecture talked about...

With this method, understanding the topic sentence, giving two points from the lecture with a conclusion will effectively cover 35seconds of speaking. This means I will have more than 10 seconds preparation time and write my two points clearly before I start speaking to enhance my fluency and pronunciation which is the game changer for the speaking section.
Moreover, giving a conclusion always increases your score by at least 1 mark but it may not be possible in all scenarios as it is far worse to be cut off in mid sentence.

And from studies I think Read Aloud and Describe Image also carry alot of weight to Speaking Score.
I usually make mistakes in Read Aloud and that's what I want to work on.

Please let us know the result of your mock test.
Shalom!

You are so spot on, I was just about to start writing dictation before the time petered out.

I'm glad that I took the test in an uncontrolled environment. Environment influences the result a great deal and we were 4 including me at my center. I suppose the guy closest to me should be getting a 90 in speaking. His voice totally drowned mine, and somehow affected my retell lecture. I should be looking forward to a quieter (more VIP setting) centres smiley. I'm open to suggestions. Btw I went to LCF.

For speaking, I've been thinking quite a lot too, 79+ is achievable. When I get the trick, I will let you know but one thing is sure: doing the same thing won't yield a different result.

I understand that 'content' isn't the all in all. You want to improve your pronunciation, yet you don't want your fluency to be hindered. One thing I would try is to 'open my mouth more' when I'm doing the speaking exercise. I believe this would require a conscious effort.

I intend sending my recordings to a friend to see how well I'm improving as well.

Thanks, I actually find all the tasks exciting lol. I used those materials but I'm sure they are the outdated ones.Something tells me that I need a hardcopy for the PTE Academic Testbuilder. That book is very helpful particularly the student answers.
People I know with great speaking scores tell me they do not notice anything wrong with my speaking. This gets me really confused.
I don't think speaking faster is the way to go as I have been told by those who have broken d speaking code.
I think opening the mouth wider and using hand movements while speaking will help. Also placing stress on keywords is key.
God help us all!

What current materials do you have? I will like to have them too. As per the Testbuilder book, I find it not too interesting especially the way re-order paragraph is structured. Its a great book though because it prepares you for the toughest moments in PTE.

I have taken my first test. My result is very funny considering I was expecting 79+ in Reading and Writing.

Listening 63
Reading 83
Speaking 68
Writing 67

Oral Fluency 63
Grammar 78
Pronunciation 49
Spelling 90
Vocabulary 90
Written Discourse 79

PS. I did not finish Listening maybe that was accounted for my low scores but the score for my Writing is debatable. I've never scored less than 79 in Writing even in mock tests.

cc: afolaseg
Impressive result for a first test.
As you did not finish your listening test, you shouldn't expect great writing scores because I don't think you were able to do "write from dictation."
I have been pondering on the speaking test and I think it will take great confidence to get 79+ when speaking. (I'm yet to achieve this myself).

From the little I know: You should try and work faster next time and pay close attention to SWT, SST and FIB/R&W

I wil recommend PTE Academic Testbuilder and PTE Academic Practice Test Plus. Both books come with CD. Study the materials at least twice before taking your next test.

Shalom!
