After changing their feed, they became really weak. They seem to be getting better a lot faster. We are day 42 today.

She don hatch since Saturday, but I'm not happy because most of the eggs did not hatched. She hatched just 1 turkey, 2 noiler and 2 naked neck. I remove all the chicks on Sunday and gave her 17 naked neck eggs to brood for 21 days, she is sitting on them, I will take care of the chicks

This is beautiful. But wouldn't that be too hard on her? She just brooded for 21 days and you giving her a new set of eggs?

This is shocking oo grin grin as I'm planning to breeding kuroilers for frozen chicken business.

Please what was their weight at maturity?

How many months does it stay to mature?

Is their carcass be good for frozen chicken business?

If you wouldn't be free-ranging them, I wouldn't advise you raise them for frozen foods. Do your broiler jeje and slaughter 6 weeks.

Noo from my broiler experience you don't just change feed overnight.

You mix their feed in the ratio of 3:1, 3 parts of old feed 1part of new feed. Next week 2:2, upper week 1:3, t?start reducing increasing the new feed and reducing the old feed until you have only new feed.

The change really affected them that they can barely stand and we lost some sef. We went back to industrial feed and they are getting better. The formulated feed was a lot more expensive but less effective. We wouldn't be going back to that soon.

HAHAHAHA! I told you this a couple of weeks ago. From experience, those birds almost finished me. And me I was raising just 100. The next time I raised 50 after that experience, I made sure I had 5 bags down from the start.

Reason one has to start. Your experience will force you to learn. Wouldn't repeat this again.

6 months ke? That's 24 weeks. As a first timer in 2016, with very little experience, my first set of Noilers started laying at 18 weeks. And from experience, anything that causes them not to lay at 20 weeks means they weren't fed properly.

Thanks for this clarification. Na the farmer we deh by our side give us that. His Noilers are past 5 months and they aren't laying yet. Hope our guys wouldnt disappoint.

Thanks boss. As we changed their feed sha, they became really weak o. Don't know what we are going to do with our own formulated feed. Money weh no de don go...

We don go back to chikun starter.

And I'm spending too much on antibiotics and multivitamins. I would appreciate an organic solution (I.e with the right formula) that can help save my birds from all the popular diseases.
Agriculture / Re: Starting Kuroiler Farm. Journey With Us. by idrisaleo1: 10:44pm On Nov 03, 2022
I tried making my own feeds some days ago. Bought the following:

Maize 2 bags = 20k per bag
Soya 1bag = 32k per bag
Fish meal 32 kg = #800 per kg
Limestone 38kg = #55 per kg
Methionine 200g = #600
Lysine 400g =#800
Transport n milling = 8600 + 3000
Roasting = 5k

I no buy wheat bran/maize bran. The total kg I got was 338 or thereabout, what they told me. We were able to get just 12 bags of (25kg feeds) plus 9kg. In short, it wasn't an economically wise decision as I spent over 120k on the feed. That could get me 16 bags of starters @7500. None of those bags gave us 100 kg feed, I mean maize and soya o.

This business isn't easy doing it from a far cos not so many people are willing to help you. Everybody wants to drain you of whatever they can possibly get.

If you know where I can get industrial feed in Ilorin at a cheaper rate than that, please mention it. I won't give you no one naira, so dont even start. Tell me for the sake of God and I can direct whoever thinking of ripping me apart to the place. Thank you.

There is this lady I know .. she has been running away from having herself tested ..

We had sex and condom busrt .

I immediately asked her if she had any medical conditions she said no ..
.I asked her this like for week daily and she said no....

We were fine , but the moment I asked her to come let's go for a hiv test ,she started running away .
Giving many excuses here and there .

It's about 70days now since last had sex test ..and between then and now ,I have done 3 different HIV test .all came out negative ..

But she hasn't even done one ..

But I told her recently that I'll come take her for a test very soon ..

The reason she runs away to me clearly shows she is hiding something.

But I warned her that if it comes out she was positive and kept hiding it to infect me , I'll end her...

Told her this clearly ..

Na mad man you be. Why can't you just leave her alone when God don spare your life? You go rot in hell ni if you do anything to that babe.

English is big in every region of Nigeria. It's our lingua franca. After our local language, the only other language most of us can speak is English.

Arabic on the other hand is big only in the north. It's almost zero in the south east and South South.

If most of you can speak that English in the south and most northerners understand better the Arabic language, why shouldn't that be included? Both English and Arabic aren't ours, so why the problem with Arabic?

When did Arabic become Nigeria's official language?

The indirect imposition of middle east culture religiously inherited by some Nigerians is pungent and frowsky.

Its a cunny attempt to impose certain religious factors into our national life.

Arabic has been with us years before the British thought of coming here. If we can have English, why not Arabic?

Thanks very much.

You know how the price of broilers keep going up so i decided to go for kuroilers. Unfortunately people will prefer broilers because of their broad chest even when they have smaller lap.

I have never seen a kuroiler carcass to see how broad the chest area looks like, so that keeps discouraging me. I won't like to breed/sale what people won't readily buy.

It is a valid concern, but I believe people will buy it. I believe people prefer local chicken to broilers, and this kuroiler is just like our local breed.

Check out this packaging..

From what i have studied, they take 3months to reach 2.5 - 3kg, which is "fair" grin grin

What i don't know is how their carcass would be though i read they have equal distribution of meat unlike broilers that have more meat on the chest region.

I really don't think that should be a problem, I mean the distribution of meat. In some other countries, there are different chicken breeds in the stores, there's one called Superhuhn in Germany, it's just like our local fowls. Hardy, not as meaty but it sells as quickly as broilers. What I know is people will buy Kuroilers with better packaging. And if you can achieve 4-5 kilos live weight, the carcass should earn you something worthwhile. You can decide to sell the different parts to different customers sef.

Please Sir can one raise kuroilers for frozen chicken business?? And how many bags or kg of feed will they consume till maturity or for 3 months.

I think one can. You just have to find a way of reducing the expenses that go into feeding them. Free-ranging them, for example. It's best to raise them where you can easily do this. You'll just be worried with the morning feed and the rest, they scavenge on their own.

The one advantage they have got is their ability to lay fertile eggs. You can quickly increase your stock if you have access to an incubator. Raising them in large numbers and the opportunity to free-range will make it a viable business, a lot more you would get from both broilers and layers farming. I mean these are birds that can survive on their own with little or no support.

Even if you would be feeding twice a day from your pocket. They will still make a better business decision. As at Day 30, they finish a bag in two days. And they are just above 360. Once at Day 60, they will be finishing 1.5 bags in a day. I guess we are underfeeding them. If you have more resources, I would advise you budget more.

If 200 of those can lay at 60 per cent and you have an hatch rate of just 60 per cent as well. You will have 2160 birds in 30 days. 2160 * 390 = 842,400

What I'm saying is that if you use the wrong sand (fine grains) it may be disastrous due to impacted crop.
.
Yes, it is a type of deep litter.

I read that you can use river bed and concrete sand in that article. And I learnt they got this from the river as well. We'll be more specific the next time. Thanks for pointing that out. The article was brilliant.

Thanks for the article. It's enlightening. If you read, you will likely be going for sand.
.
It can cause problem if the grains are small. See this https://www.thefeatherbrain.com/blog/sand-chicken-coop-bedding?format=amp.
.
How will you clean out 2 truck load of sand plus accumulated manure? Deep litter would be better oo.

The plan is just to roast the soybean, mix with all other ingredients and serve. I see some videos where the farmers didn't need to mash the feed. I believe they have strong beaks and would be fine.

I plan to let it be for at least a year. We will just be dressing it with a shovel.

Isn't this a deep litter system? I think deep litter means housing them in a coop without no battery cages?

Nice. They have enough space to run around. Apart from the blocks, how much did you spend on the covering and roofing of the place? I plan on doing something similar to this next week and just want to have an idea how much I will be spending.

Thanks in advance.

Please see the first page for rough estimate. I sent the money, my dad started with the supervision. And up to the roofing was done last year. I don't think that will be very helpful?

All I know about poultry farming, I learned under duress. grin

My wife is a farmer. She raises broilers.

Zero mortality every set. Except for the usual one or two "abiku" among them grin

Rule of thumb:

1. Day Old Chicks only need water and vitamins for their first seven days. Add some antibiotics to the mix for good measure. The "abiku"s will return to their maker during this period. That's between two to three birds in a batch of 200. Good riddance! It saves you the cost of feed because they will still die in the future if they don't go in that first week. It is their destiny cheesy cheesy cheesy

2. Buy pre-vaccinated birds from your suppliers. This is why you need a trusted source. Don't get carried away by fancy websites or sweet-talking marketers. There are "LIARS" everywhere. Do your own research (DYOR).

3. Lasorta vaccination should come by the 7th day. Remove their water, give them their feed, wait about an hour, then give them the Lasorta. Administer the proper dosage (200 dose for 200 birds, etc). At this point, NO BIRD should die anymore. They are fortified enough for the journey. Any new mortality is squarely your fault going forward.

4. Gumboro vaccination should come in by Day 12 latest. As above, please administer the right dosage. It's not hard.

In summary, mortality is not to be feared. Welcome it in the first week. But I guarantee you, your birds will hardly die at all if you follow protocol. Even "Abiku"s change their minds when they land in a good home grin grin grin cool

You guys are doing well. Thanks a lot.
