Buhari Order Military To Protect Fulani Cow Owners From Rustlers While Neglecting Boko Haram

CATTLE RUSTLERS, or cattle thieves, have been a problem wherever cattle are run on the range. Nineteenth-century rustlers drove off cattle in herds; present-day rustlers carry them off in trucks.

Rustlers' methods have varied from the rare forceful seizure of cattle in pitched battles, to the far more common

While Boko Haram militants are on the rampage causing serious havoc in the country with over 550 people killed just within a space of 34 days Buhari have failed to take any decisive action. its interesting that the lives of cows are more valuable than ordinary Nigerians.

Instead of protecting Nigerians the president is making laws to protect cow owners this is the high of impunity and insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians.

The Federal Government has ordered military led onslaught against the Cattle Rustlers and bandits causing havoc in some parts of the northern part of the country.

This is the outcome of the closed door meeting between the eight Governors of North Western and North Central states, Security Chiefs and other Federal Government representatives yesterday at the Ministry of Defence, Abuja.

The meeting, which was called at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the affected region, has the Governors of Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue and Plateau States in attendance, while that of Zamfara state was represented by the Deputy Governor.

Speaking after the meeting, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS) Danladi Kifasi who coordinated it on behalf of President Buhari, assured that the state of insecurity in the affected northern part of the country, especially, cattle rustling would be a thing of the past.

Kifasi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, saying that the modalities being put in place and championed by the military, would help to bring sustainable peace to the region.

“I am quite satisfied with the outcome of the meeting. Obviously, for security reasons, we cannot discuss operational matters live on television.

“Farmers, people who have cattle can be rest assured that cattle rustlers would be a thing of the past", he said.

When asked the if the military would be actively involved and lead the operations, he said; "it is obvious, it should be obvious that the military will lead the operation".

Prior to the close door meeting, the HoS disclosed that it was the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai who requested for Presidential intervention to address the security situation in the region.

Kifasi revealed that Buhari acting on that request called for an expanded meeting of the governors of the contiguous states in order to arrive at a more sustainable solution to the issue of ethnic killings, cattle rustlings and farmers-herdsmen conflicts.

He said: "The meeting was at the instance of President Muhammadu Buhari. The commander in chief mandated me to call all of you, following a request by the executive governor of kaduna state, in order to review, discuss and come up with modalities leading to the effective tackling of the current security concerns affecting Kaduna State and its neighbouring Katsina, Zamfara and Kebbi in the North West. And Plateau, Benue, Niger and Nassarawa States

"The essence of having your excellencies is to have first hand information as well as your views about the activities of these bandits and the way forward. While the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS), Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), will share their ideas about tackling the challenge".

In the same vein, El-Rufai who spoke on behalf of the governors, said that the security operations would be expanded to focus on the forest areas where the notorious rustlers and bandits operates from.

Well, he said, the Governors of some selected states in the Northern part of Nigeria came here to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Policeand the Commandant General of the Nigeran Security Civil and Defence Corp to discuss issues of common security interest to all the states.

"This discussion has started in Kaduna where we are looking at areas, forests that have become a source of banditry in our states, and this ha been expanded to look at other forests in the North Central Nigeria that has also been a source of banditry and criminality. Bt we are discussing with the Ministry of Defence, the Inspector General of Police, the Commandant of the NSCDC. It is an operation to address that", he added.

El-Rufai who is the initiator of the security meeting confirmed that they "have made substantial progress, but the details would be announced at the right time by those in charge of the operation".

According to him, the Governors of each of the states affected by this operatio have in place, post-operations plan including dealing with internally displaced people, activating the State emergency Management Agency, to deal with any emergencies, as well as ensuring the presence of law enforcement in the forest or around the forestso that civil population would continue to live I peace.

"So we have a comprehensive strategy, not only about the military operation but also how to ensure that there is peace and security, post operations", he said.

Those in attendance apart from the governors, HoS, and Security Chiefs includes the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Defence, Finance and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Politics / Buhari Removal Of Military Check Points Is Responsible For Renew BH Bomb Blast by ifedubaeorg: 10:34am On Jul 07, 2015
The presidential order for the removal of Military checks point is largely responsible for this new waves of boko haram attacks across the country just within 72 hours a wave of bomb attacks have hit Yobe , Kano < Jos and now Zaria have just been hit. this terrorist are moving freely and attacking different parts of Nigeria now at their own will .

What type Of General is Buhari?

Also without military check points boko haram fighters can now travel from their bases in Borno to other part of Northern Nigeria and also Fulani herdmen can intensify their attacks.

As of today the naira have collapsed to a record low of 232 to 1 dollars because of Buhari wrong policy of banning importation of 41 commodities. the world have changed we are now in a digital computerized world unlike in 1984 when every thing is analogue. you can afford to make certain policies without recourse to its global implication

Politics / Buhari And ‘The Change We Need’? - Ochereome Nnanna by ifedubaeorg: 9:39am On Jul 07, 2015
Buhari and ‘the change we need’?

By Ochereome Nnanna

ALL over the democratic world, the term: “change” is a pet mantra employed by opposition parties. “Continuity” is the ruling party’s counter to this battle cry. After eight years of George Bush (II) and the Republicans in America, Barack Obama of the Democratic Party not only campaigned for “change”, he styled his own: “the change we need”.

In other words, it was not just a desire for the warmongering pro-rich GOP to be rested by the electorate, it was time to introduce Obama’s libertine new deals, look more inward and accommodate the interests of the New Americans and the middle class and minorities.

When the All Progressives Congress (APC) was campaigning for “change”, not many people bothered to pin them down, especially their presidential candidate, to explain what “change” meant. Buhari only told us that he would fight corruption, provide security and diversify the economy. Jonathan fought corruption with technology to get rid of ghost workers, yet there were widespread allegations of corruption against his government.

He battled Boko Haram, a job he almost completed before handing over, yet thousands of Nigerians had lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands more were dislodged from their communities. He diversified the economy, revived agriculture and infrastructure and made Nigeria the largest economy in Africa and its most favoured investment destination; yet majority of the citizens did not feel the impact of these efforts. So, what manner of change would Buhari create to make a difference?

Right now we have witnessed a major change, and we have been promised more changes. But are they “the change we need”? The change we have seen is that the APC has booted out the regime of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) Goodluck Jonathan. That was earth-shaking, as no opposition party has ever defeated a sitting president seeking re-election in Nigeria and the continent as a whole. But is that the change we need? Regime change is only a means to an end, not an end in itself. You can change a regime and later bite your finger in regret.

The second change, which the Buhari Presidency appears to be angling for, is to reduce the number of ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government to save cost. Unless he will also follow up by retrenching the thousands of workers in those MDA’s (which will create bigger problems), he will not be able to reduce the cost of governance. It will only lead to crowded desks populated by redundant government salary drawers; a journey to nowhere.

Part of the Buhari change, we hear, includes going after corrupt officials of the Jonathan era to retrieve stolen funds. We have seen that before, even under Buhari. He did the same in 1984/85. He also sent hundreds of politicians to long term jail terms. But that did not buoy up government coffers by much. It did not stop the shortage of essential commodities in shops. That draconian approach was possible only because he ruled with decrees.

It is not possible today. The courts, the legislature and fellow political stakeholders will frustrate the effort. Look at what happened to efforts to arrest Senator Buruji Kashamu. Just a few days ago, former Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, was discharged and acquitted of money laundering charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The only governor that is in jail for corruption today is Mr. James Ibori of Delta, and that is because he made the mistake of fleeing abroad. The rest are in the Senate or at their palatial homes enjoying their loots.

I pity those who see Buhari as a Superman and Spiderman rolled into one.

Let us even assume that Buhari is able to retrieve billion of dollars from the looters. Is it not the same governors and politicians that will spend and eventually re-loot the money? Where is “Abacha loot” brought back under Obasanjo’s regime? Any disclosure of how it was spent? Did it stop politicians from looting? Did it stop even APC governors from deeping their hands into their state treasuries to bankroll Buhari’s campaign, thus plunging them into penury and salary arrears? We wait to see how Superman/Spiderman Buhari will deal with that issue, as these chaps are now fervently crowding around him to be rewarded with juicy federal posts.

What I am saying is that if “change” means removing Jonathan from power, cutting the number of MDAs, getting looters to return stolen funds and possibly jailing them, it will not lead to the change we need. It is a cosmetic change because it does not address the root causes of corruption, poverty, economic wretchedness in the midst of plenty, mass unemployment and insecurity. If Buhari refuses to embrace “the change we need” he will fail woefully after his Superman/Spiderman stunts as he did in 1984/85. The corruption, insecurity and economic rubble will be multiplied by the time he leaves office in four years. The North will simply discard him and float another platform to enable them get another eight years, and the journey to nowhere will continue.

The “change we need” is not a “materialisation of my inventive genius” as Bambulu grandiloquently claimed in John Ene Henshaw’s hilarious play: This is Our Chance. It is not, as the worn cliché puts it, “rocket science”. It is an old idea which frightens the Nigerian ruling class. It is an inalienable truth which the class and region that Buhari belongs to, avoid like the plague because it will force our leaders to think and work. It will take away their parasitic, unearned and enslaving privileges and their right to use nepotism to populate the federal government with people of questionable competence from their part of the country as Buhari is already doing after only a few appointments.

That change we need is constitutional restructuring and establishment of “true federalism”. It involves the decentralisation of the powers of the federal government. The only way to cut down the size of the MDAs without mass retrenchment of workers is to transfer most of the powers of the federal government to the states or more preferably, the geopolitical zones. The Federal Government will exist to defend the nation and guarantee the citizenship rights of its people, while maintaining common services and taking charge of our international relations. The economy should largely be managed by the states (or more preferably, the geopolitical zones) and the private sector, which will pay taxes and royalties to the federal government to look after all of us.

I wonder why Ahmed Tinubu and his political platform went into a merger with Buhari and his acolytes without agreeing on this “true federalism” principle, which is an enduring political philosophy of the Awoist Yoruba, and for which the Igbo fought and lost the civil war. The only way that the North/South West alliance in the APC can last is for the Party to accede to the decentralisation of power. If that happens, the APC will become a darling of even the South East and South-South which cloak “true federalism” in the toga of “resource control”.

There is no manner of “good governance” that can thrive on the neocolonial structure which the military set up to enable a section of the country dominate and freeload the political and economic resources of the nation. No sustainable good governance can be possible under a Spiderman/Superman arrangement because after a little while, “mere mortals” will be back in charge, and the journey to nowhere will continue.

Politics / Today In History: Operation Unicord Start Of Nigeria Civil War by ifedubaeorg: 10:51am On Jul 06, 2015
Today In History OPERATION UNICORD Start Of Nigeria Civil War

The Nigeria Biafra civil war began today in History exactly 48 years ago. the war that was supposed to be a short police action according to the Government of Yakubu Gowon lasted for 2 and half years and resulted in the death of 3 million Biafrans and about 500,000 Nigeria combatant troops.

The Operation UNICORD (July 2 – July 12, 1967) was an offensive launched by the Nigerian Army at the beginning of the Nigerian Civil War. It involved the capture of 6 major Biafran towns near their northern border.

When Nigeria became an independent state in October 1960 the newly formed government consisted mainly of northern politician from the Hausa-Fulani ethnic group. Early on the Nigerian government became corrupt with various politicians swindling public funds and rigging votes. By 1965 the Nigerian government became so corrupt that uprisings against the government sprang up all across Nigeria with various politicians attempting to gain more power. This resulted in rioting and mass arrests in the cities of Lagos and Ibadan. The politicianObafemi Awolowo was falsely blamed for causing the riots and was sentenced to 10 years in a Nigerian prison. All of the chaos that occurred in the political ralm gave was to the 1966 Nigerian coup d'etat in which 11 senior politicians were killed by mainly Igbo soldiers led by the Army Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu. The Nigerian Prime Minister Abubakar Balewa was one of the 11 politicians assassinated during the coup of January 15. Nzeogwu's soldiers were forced to retreat to Kaduna after General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi was able to assemble a force of soldiers in Lagos to combat the rebellious soldiers. Ironsi was made President of Nigeria on January 16, 1966 and became the first Igbo president in Nigerian history. many northern generals and politicians were angry at Ironsi for two reasons, because he did not execute Major Nzeogwu and because he was giving more and more political power to southern politicians. On July 29, 1966 Ironsi was assassinated by a mutinous soldiers under the command of Lt Col Murtala Mohammed and installed Colonel Yakubu Gowon as Head of State. The counter-coup resulted in the 1966 anti-Igbo pogromand caused the brutal massacre of 50,000 Igbo civilians living in various northern cities such as Kano and Kaduna. These massacres angered many Igbo civilians and a call for secession was given by Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu. Ojukwu met with President Gowon in Aburi, Ghana in December 1966 to discuss the situation that was occurring in Nigeria. A vote was held in May 1967 in the Eastern Region of Nigeria that was to see how many easterners supported a secession. The vote resulted in 68% of easterners approving of a secession of a secular Igbo state. On May 30, 1967 Ojukwu officially seceded the Eastern Region and proclaimed the new Republic of Biafra. Ojukwu managed to assemble a 3,000 man guerrilla force to defend Biafra's front lines. In early July 1967 Nigerian President Gowon ordered General Olusegun Obasanjo to regain control of the Eastern Region.

On July 2, 1967 the Nigerian Army opened its offensive operations from the Northern sector. The First Area Command NA, supported by an artillery brigade consisting of scorpion tanks, saladin armored cars, and ferrets was divided into two brigades. The 1st brigade under Maj. Sule Apollo advanced down the Ogugu-Ogunga-Nsukka road while the 2nd brigade under Maj. Martin Adamu advanced down the Gakem-Obudu-Ogoja road. Defending Biafran soldiers under Brig. H.M. Njoku managed to repel the attack, however, the Nigerian Army began recruiting guides and informants to report on the disposition of Biafran troops, their strength, and other crucial information. For 10 days the Nigerian Army fought its way southward and managed to capture the towns of Nsukka, Ogugu, Ogunga, Ogoja, Gakem, and Obudu while also forcing defending Biafran troops to retreat in disarray. Many Biafran soldiers complained of malaria, headache, and other ailments. Thousands of Biafran civilians fled their homes, in fear of being massacred by Nigerian soldiers, and headed for the Biafran capital, Enugu.

16 days after the Biafrans retreated Nzeogwu attempted to regain control of Nsukka on July 30 but was killed by Nigerian soldiers while driving down a road. Obasanjo was successful in his conquest of Nsukka but did not enter any further into Biafran territory but instead was put aside after the Biafran Generals Albert Okonkwo and Victor Banjo invaded Nigeria's Mid-Western Region. Murtala Mohammed was put in charge of fending off all Biafran soldiers within Nigeria's boundaries. Victor Banjo got within 135 miles of the Nigerian Capital Lagos before he was intercepted by Mohammed's men. After over a month of bloody fighting the Biafrans retreated to Onitsha and released their hold over the Mid-Western Region. With the Midwest Invasion over the Nigerians returned to Nsukka and began planning an invasion of the Biafran Capital Enugu. Due to Nsukka's proximity to Enugu it was a strategic stronghold. Olusegun Obasanjo invaded the area around Enugu in mid September 1967. Obasanjo knew that Enugu would not fall easily if he attacked it head on so he decided to surround the city and begin a siege. On September 30 Obasanjo was able to break through the Biafran defensive lines around Enugu and entered the city. After 6 days of bloody fighting the Biafrans fled south to Umuahia.

Politics / Flash Back! Nigerians May Stone Buhari In The Next Six Months-apostle Suleman by ifedubaeorg: 7:22am On Jul 06, 2015
seems that things will only get more worst .Nigerians are already stoning Buhari in 34 days

Nigerians may stone Buhari in the next six months – Apostle Johnson Suleman

Auchi-based preacher and senior pastor of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has predicted that Nigerians may be forced to hurl stones at the incoming president, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

The fire-spitting preacher stated that in frustration, people may resort to stoning the President-Elect elect if they did not see the highly publicized change by the new government.

It could be recalled that Suleiman had predicted the emergence of the All Peoples Congress, APC, candidate but warned that he may not be allowed to rule.

In an interview with Punch, the cleric said: “Let me say this to you. In the next six months, people may stone Buhari. The reason I’m saying this is because the expectation is too high. Nigerians expect Buhari to put gold on their tables. Two, the large chunk of followership Buhari has are youths and young people and they are impatient. Young people don’t believe in progressive change, they want change. When they say change, they see a new picture. And Buhari has been talking from the two sides of the mouth. During campaign, he told us Boko Haram would be a thing of the past. Now, you are President-elect, you are saying people shouldn’t expect a miracle. Are you a pastor? If I wanted a miracle worker, won’t I bring a Mallam or a miracle worker? When you were being voted for, we were not voting for a pastor, so don’t tell us about miracles.

“Like I said, Jonathan will be seen as a hero very soon because that’s the Nigerian story. Anybody who they feel is not doing well, get him out. The next few minutes, they miss this person. If by September, there is still a blink in power, people will start abusing Buhari. You said you were going to do this. Two, who are Buhari’s footmen, the large chunk are ex-PDP people and of course you know, many are still defecting. Nigerian politicians are the most shameless people (I know); they can’t bear hunger. They are defecting now to lobby for offices. If you should check the people around the man, it gives you an idea of where the man is heading.”

Suleiman also shed light on the implications of President Jonathan’s concession, said, I saw him a month before the election and we talked one on one. All I told him was that he wouldn’t win. I personally told Jonathan to concede defeat. I told him he would save a lot of heads if he conceded defeat and left. I saw not less than half a million people without their heads.

There will be “permanent change” in Nigeria – Osinbajo boasts
“We have a President who has had two problems– he is politically naive and he doesn’t understand the concept of power. We have had a President who has a media team that doesn’t understand what they call ceasefire. I told the President one on one that his media team didn’t manage him well. I told him, he would not come back. I said the other people had not just got the will of the people, they had got the will of some ministers of God in the place of prayer and few of them had contacted certain ministers of God and we had sat down and discovered we needed change”.
