PoliticsBoko Haram C’ttee Inaugurated, Gets 3 Months To Submit Report by Ifetex(op): 2:18pm On Apr 24, 2013
By Ben Agande, Abuja.
President Goodluck Jonathan has charged members of the Presidential Committee on engagement with members of the Boko Haram Sect to come up with solutions that will restore peace in the troubled northern parts of the country, saying that is what Nigerians expect from them.

Inaugurating the committee as well as the committee on the proliferation small arms and light weapons at the Council Chamber of the presidential Villa, Abuja Wednesday President Jonathan prayed Allah to grant members of the committees the wisdom to do their job.

According to the president, “Nigerians are expecting this committee to perform magic and we pray that Allah should give you the wisdom to do so, because without peace we can’t develop no matter how committed we are”.

He charged members of the committee to establish a link and develop members of the Boko Haram sect and develop a framework brought which disarmament will take place.

The president further enjoined the committee to work out a sustainable option that will lead to the granting of amnesty to members of the sect and develop a comprehensive victim support programme, “because a number of people are victims of the excesses of the Boko Haram. And as we try to address the issue of the Boko Haram we must also comprehensively address the issues directly affecting the people. the committee must also come up with suggestions on how to address the underlying causes of the crisis, to ensure that as a nation we don’t face similar threats in the future” the president said .

He reiterated that “The Federal Government is ready to work with you and any other organization to make sure that these excesses of Boko Haram is brought to an end so that as a nation it is issues of development not issues of conflicts, issues of peace not issues of disaster”.

PoliticsJonathan Appoints Waki, Second Female Member, Into Boko Haram C’ttee by Ifetex(op): 4:19pm On Apr 23, 2013
The inclusion of another member, Barrister Aisha Waki, into the Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North has been approved by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The other female member in the hitherto 26-member committee is Hajiya Naja’atu Bala Mohammed, a prominent Kano politician of the opposition shade.

The current appointment may have been informed by the refusal of Dr Datti Ahmad, President-General of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) and Comrade Shehu Sani, an activist to participate in the committee.

The committee now has 25 members.

CelebritiesJay Z Linked To Satanic Sex Cult - Ordo Templi Orientis by Ifetex(op): 3:10pm On Apr 23, 2013
There's a new claim that Jay Z is a devotee of the satanic sex cult, Ordo Templi Orientis, founded by Aleister Crowley (pictured right). The things you hear! I'm not convinced though but read and reach your own conclusions....Ordo Templi Orientis founding 'prophet' Aleister Crowley, who was born into an upper-class British family in 1875, styled himself as 'the Great Beast 666'. He was an unabashed occultist who, prior to his death in 1947, reveled in his infamy as 'the wickedest man in the world'.

His form of worship involved sadomasochistic sex rituals with men and women, spells which he claimed could raise malevolent gods and the use of hard drugs, including opium, cocaine, heroin and mescaline. Crowley’s motto — perpetuated by OTO — was 'do what thou wilt'. And it is this individualistic approach that has led to a lasting fascination among artists and celebrities.

…celebrities linked to OTO include the rapper Jay-Z, who has repeatedly purloined imagery and quotations from Aleister Crowley.

Whether wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with 'Do what thou wilt' or hiring Rihanna to hold aloft a flaming torch in his music videos (a reference to the Illuminati, an outlawed secret society whose name supposedly derives from Lucifer, or 'light bringer'), he has given the sect priceless publicity.

His clothing line, Rocawear, is shot through with OTO imagery such as the 'all seeing eye' in a triangle, the 'eye of Horus' (an ancient Egyptian symbol frequently referenced in occult texts) and the head of Baphomet (the horned, androgynous idol of Western occultism).

Some conspiracy theorists have seized on this as evidence that he is a member of a secret Masonic movement which they believe permeates the highest levels of business and government.

Others take a more pragmatic view: that it is commercial opportunism, cashing in on impressionable teens’ attraction to the 'edginess' of occult symbolism.

Politics191 Killed In Multinational Task Force, Boko Haram Clash by Ifetex(op): 2:50pm On Apr 23, 2013
Defence Headquarters (DHQ)

•10,000 rendered homeless, 2,000 houses torched

•Jonathan orders investigation into carnage

•DHQ confirms 25 insurgents, one soldier dead

Michael Olugbode , Muhammad Bello and Senator Iroegbu

One hundred and ninety-one persons were feared dead, 10,000 others rendered homeless while 2,000 houses were destroyed at the weekend in Baga town, Borno State, after what could be termed the most deadly confrontation between Boko Haram and soldiers of Multinational Task Force (MTF) deployed in the area to rein in the sect.

The MTF comprises troops from Nigeria, Cameroun, Niger and Chad. It was set up by the four countries to curb the rise of Islamic insurgency and terrorism in their countries.

Baga is one of the communities in Borno on the border of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroun. The clash also led to a humanitarian crisis as thousands of residents of the area who had been rendered homeless fled into neighbouring countries and other parts of the state.

The casualties were confirmed by local government officials when they visited Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima. They also said 64 motorcycles and 40 cars were burnt in the wake of the attack.
However, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Monday said that the escalation of violence between the MTF and members of the Islamic sect at the weekend resulted in the death of 25 insurgents and one soldier.

In reaction to the mayhem that was unleashed on the community by the soldiers and members of Boko Haram, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday ordered a full-scale investigation into reports of high civilian casualties in the confrontation.

In addition, Shettima vowed to relocate to Baga if peace was not restored in the area.
Confirming the testimony of local officials, some residents of the town, who spoke to journalists, said six fresh corpses were found in bushes around the town, bringing the death toll to 191 from the initial 185 that the governor was told.

They said the figure could rise further as the people of the town were still combing the entire area and its surroundings for corpses.

The residents complained of the stench oozing from the nearby bushes, indicating that there might still be decomposing corpses lying around.

Some of the residents of the town seen fleeing to Maiduguri, told reporters that they had to leave their abodes for safety as they were not sure whether the hostilities might recur.

One of the fleeing residents, who identified himself simply as Abba, said the town had been deserted with many having to flee into the neighbouring countries of Cameroun, Niger and Chad.

He said he counted himself lucky to have been able to sneak out of the town to Maiduguri to unite with his family, lamenting that many other residents had to flee into neighbouring countries.

The residents alleged that the soldiers were responsible for setting ablaze their homes, which led to several deaths, as well as the injuries sustained by those that were hospitalised.

They said the aged and children died as a result of the conflagration that engulfed the entire town.
A resident of the town said that the attack started at about 8 pm on Friday and raged till Saturday.
The resident, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Only God can understand what we have done to deserve this. But the soldiers were mindless that night in their approach.
“They killed and burnt our houses, chased everyone into the bushes including women and children. So far, we have buried 185 corpses - some were burnt beyond recognition; others are hospitalised with various degrees of burns.”

The governor, who was visibly agitated at the sight of charred bodies, houses, vehicles and the homeless residents, was briefed by the Commander of the Multinational Forces, Brig-Gen. Austin Edokpayi, who said that the conflagration that consumed the town and resultant deaths should be blamed on Boko Haram members who opened fire on soldiers while hiding in the midst of residents of the town.

Edokpaye refuted the residents’ allegations that the shoot-out was unprovoked. He said: “We lost an officer during the attack on our men on patrol.

“We had received intelligence that some suspected Boko Haram members usually pray and hide arms at a particular mosque in the town. It was around that mosque where our men were attacked with several of them injured and an officer died.

“When we reinforced and returned to the scene, the terrorists came out with heavy firepower including rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) which usually have a conflagration effect.”

The governor after assessing the situation pleaded with the fleeing residents to return to their homes as a committee had been empanelled to provide compensation for the losses they had suffered.

He also called on the commander to “take full charge” of his operation and ensure he personally supervises his field officers from time-to-time in order to avert similar nasty incidents in the future.

He also ordered the immediate reconstruction of houses destroyed in the clash between the soldiers and the Boko Haram sect to make way for the return of homeless residents of Baga town.

The governor, who in a statement issued Monday by his Special Adviser, Media and Communication, Alhaji Isa Gusau, further described the incident as very unfortunate, decried the barbaric destruction of lives and properties.

He ordered the immediate release of relief materials including food items and clothes.
He also directed the state’s Ministry of Works to immediately mobilise to Baga town to start the reconstruction of houses which were destroyed, even before a committee he set up yesterday was expected to investigate and submit a report on the cause of the clash, take records of all those killed or injured, and take stock of all houses destroyed and recommend compensation.

In the statement, the governor claimed that the number of persons killed as well as houses destroyed had not been accurately ascertained by any competent authority and government was awaiting the report of its committee or any reliable source to verify accurate figures.

He warned the media to desist from reeling out figures, and criticised the report in the press that 185 persons were killed and 2,000 houses destroyed.

He said it was unfortunate that news stories were based solely on accounts by some residents in Baga, who spoke with the governor during his visit, adding that the stories were written without any independent verification for accuracy and with no form of investigation whatsoever.

He said regardless of the number of persons affected, the incident was gruesome and highly condemnable since the life of a single human being was as important as the lives of thousands.

Having received preliminary briefings from the military high command on the incident, Jonathan also ordered a full-scale investigation into reports of high civilian casualties in the confrontation between the soldiers and insurgents at Baga.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the president's spokesman said while preliminary briefings indicated that the casualty figures being reported by the media might have been grossly exaggerated, "the president assures Nigerians and the global community that the Federal Government of Nigeria places the highest possible value on the lives of all citizens of the country and that his administration will continue to do everything possible to avoid the killing or injuring of innocent bystanders in security operations against terrorists and insurgents."

The statement added: "The rules of engagement for the military and security agencies are already in place for this purpose and the investigation ordered by President Jonathan into the incident in Baga is to amongst other things, determine whether or not these rules were fully complied with.

"The president has also ordered the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) and federal health agencies to liaise with the Borno State Government and take urgent steps to provide immediate relief and medical support for all who suffered losses and injury in the fighting at Baga."

According to the statement, "The president commiserates with all those who regrettably lost their lives in the fighting, including the soldiers who gallantly made the supreme sacrifice in the operation against terrorism, insurgency and insecurity in Nigeria.

"The president is deeply pained by the continuance of these needless deaths and will continue to do all within his powers to achieve lasting peace, security and stability in all parts of the country.

"It is his hope and expectation that the national committee which he will inaugurate on Wednesday for dialogue and the peaceful resolution of security challenges in the north will contribute significantly to ending the continuous loss of lives to wasteful violence."
Meanwhile, the clash between the soldiers and members of the sect has drawn criticism from a former governor of Borno State and senator representing Borno North, Alhaji Maina Ma'aji Lawan, who described it as a drawback for the amnesty plan of the federal government.

He said the killing must be treated as a matter-of-urgent national importance so that the perpetrators could be brought to book in the shortest possible time.
Speaking to a section of the press, Lawan said: “It is rather unfortunate and regrettable that this huge number of people were killed. I was informed by my constituents that 172 people, mostly innocent civilians, were killed during the clash.

“This is highly disturbing and definitely sour grapes especially when the federal government has shown some level of commitment to resolve the crisis with the setting up of an amnesty committee.”

He said though the soldiers claimed they were provoked, as professionals, he noted, they should have exercised some restraint by reacting in a way that would not have caused the magnitude of loss of lives and property.

Another lawmaker, Hon. Amuna Khadi, representing Jere Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said the federal government must as a matter of urgency, reconstitute the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the north to include some known insurgents.
Khadi also said that the federal government should consider more people from Borno State and the North-east region which is the most affected state, rather than having the committee dominated by people from other regions of the country.

In another incident, a police barracks in Borno was reportedly attacked by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram yesterday, killing one policeman and inflicting injuries on another.

Attempts to get official confirmation proved abortive, as the state Commissioner of Police and his public relations officer did not pick their calls.

With no end in sight to the attacks by Boko Haram, the federal government has sought the support of the United States of America in the area of intelligence gathering to enable Nigeria fight the insurgency as well as help to contain the spread of terrorism in the West African sub-region.

This was the major talking point yesterday when the US Congressional House Armed Service Committee in the company of the US Ambassador to Nigeria Clarence McCulley visited the DHQ, Abuja to meet with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Ola Sa'ad Ibrahim, other service chiefs and top officials of government.
The meeting, which was started with journalists in attendance, turned out like previous ones with the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs. Olusola Obada, whereby the US insisted that the media must be kept out of deliberations.

Other members of the delegation included Rep. Mac Thornberry, Vice-Chairman of the US House Armed Services Committee’s Congressional Delegation; and Rep. Adam Smith who is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

However, a source informed THISDAY that discussions centred on how to strengthen capacity in the armed forces to deal with the insurgency not only in the country but also in the sub-region.

Nigerian officials were said to have requested the US' support in the area of intelligence, security equipment and infrastructure that would be crucial to defeating or curtailing terrorism in the country.

An agreement was also reached that military and security operations should be reinforced in dealing with the Boko Haram insurgency while the government deals with negotiations at the political level.
“The (US) delegation acknowledged Nigeria's role in the stability of the West-African sub-region, especially in the ongoing peacekeeping efforts in Mali,” the source said.

“The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, Senator George Sekibo, and a number of other Nigerian officials also specifically requested US' support in the areas of equipment, infrastructure and intelligence to enable the country sustain its role in the region,” the source added.

Sekibo while speaking to journalists after the meeting confirmed that both parties had discussions on how to deal with rising terrorism in the country.
He said the US delegation commended Nigeria for its strategic role at ensuring peace and stability in the sub-region.

The senator also revealed that there would be enhanced security cooperation in the fields of training for Nigerian security personnel, particularly for the navy on maritime security and oil theft.

DHQ also confirmed that the recent escalation of fighting between MTF and members of the Islamic sect at Baga town at the weekend left 25 insurgents and one soldier dead.
This was disclosed by the Director of Defence Information, Brig-General Chris Olukolade, who explained that the number of civilian casualties were yet to be verified.
Kolade said that the fight erupted when soldiers responded to desperate calls from the residents of Baga town who were under Boko Haram siege.

He disclosed that the only soldier killed was actually the first to respond to the SOS when Boko Haram opened fire on them.

“We do not want to give you a wrong figure as the total number of civilian casualties have not been ascertained,” he said.

“However, the information we have here is that there was an attack by Boko Haram insurgents and MTF responded to desperate calls. Twenty-five insurgents were killed and we lost a soldier who was actually responding to the desperate calls,” he explained.

Soldiers arrest fake policeman with 108 kg of Indian hemp

By Segun Awofadeji

Bauchi State Police Command, over the weekend, recovered materials used for the manufacturing of locally Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) along Gombe road a densely populated area in Bauchi.

The recovery also came on the heels of the arrest of a fake Superintendent of Police (SP), one Augustine Odogwu, by soldiers with 100 kilogrammes of Indian hemp along Bauchi-Kano road near Gadar Maiwa village.

The state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan, who confirmed the incident, said: “The materials were dumped near Bauchi township Divisional Police Station, and were concealed inside a carton. The culprits were in the process of assembling the IEDs but they put it inside Turkey oil and Maltina cans but couldn’t complete it. We have removed it and the area is safe.”

Residents of the area, which is close to the residence of the popular Alkali Aminu’s house, said they were shocked and confused when they saw a carton containing bomb that were carefully kept inside tins with a bag containing fertiliser.

Meanwhile, a fake Policemen, who was arrested by soldiers with 100 kilogrammes of Indian hemp near Gadar Maiwa village in Ningi Local Government Area of the state, was said to have been arrested at a military road block along Ningi road with fake Identity Card with the rank of SP and a uniform in his car.

A security source in Bauchi, who confirmed the incident, said the car was loaded with 108 kilogrammes of leaves loaded in sacks suspected to be Indian hemp.
The source added that: “After the man was arrested, the first preliminary investigation confirmed that the suspect is not a policeman and he was handed over to the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command for further investigation.

He appealed to the masses to always be security conscious and report any suspicious character to the security agencies “even if the man is in uniform.”
Efforts to get the comment of the state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Parah Julius Bawa, proved abortive as he was not on seat, but a senior officer in the command confirmed that the suspect was undergoing interrogation and had made some confessional statement

PoliticsBuhari, Tinubu, Tambuwal Hold Secret Meeting On 2015 by Ifetex(op): 1:39pm On Apr 22, 2013
Former Head of State and presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 general election, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), and National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Bola Tinubu, a few days ago, may have held a private meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.

But as the opposition coalition comprising CPC, ACN, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which is merging to form the All Progressives Congress (APC), sets its sights on 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan is also making moves to cover his flanks as the election approaches.

In this regard, THISDAY learnt that the president hosted some select Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors to a private dinner last night at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where it is believed that issues concerning the party was discussed.

However, it was gathered that the secret meeting, which might have taken place last week between the two leaders of the merging opposition parties and Tambuwal at a private residence in Abuja, is not unconnected to efforts by the opposition to woo the speaker to their party.

The meeting was deemed a strategic gambit by the opposition to get Tambuwal to defect from the ruling PDP on whose platform he was elected to the House of Representatives, to the yet-to-be registered APC as the opposition party’s possible presidential contender in 2015.

It was also learnt that the APC is already considering the zoning of political offices and might zone the presidency to the North-west, Tambuwal’s geopolitical zone.

THISDAY further gathered that the APC is mulling the idea of zoning either the vice-presidential ticket or senate presidency to the South-west zone.

The interim agreement reached at the meeting was that if the senate presidency is zoned to the South-west, then the Office of the Vice-President would be zoned to the South-east.

According to an inside source within the coalition of opposition parties, the decision to allocate the senate presidency to the South-west was being done to pave the way for Tinubu to enter the senatorial contest in Lagos and bank on his past stint as a ranking senator to emerge as senate president.

Should this go according to script, sources said Tinubu’s wife, Oluremi, who is currently the senator representing Lagos Central, will be expected to give up her seat to enable her husband contest.

Though it was uncertain whether Tambuwal has committed to jettisoning the PDP for APC, sources said Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, was seriously considered as the speaker’s possible running mate, but the idea was discarded on the grounds that he is a Muslim.

“Given the current mood of the nation, the party cannot field a Muslim-Muslim ticket right now; otherwise, the pairing (Tambuwal-Fashola) would have been a marriage made in heaven. As a result, the vice-presidential slot has been reserved for the South-east for now,” explained the source.

THISDAY gathered that before the meeting with Tambuwal, APC had considered the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir el-Rufai.

But the source said: “They were seen as too controversial and unmarketable in the north,” hence the need to look elsewhere.

In a related development, the president last night hosted about 15 PDP governors to a private dinner, leaving out eight governors elected on the party’s platform. In all, the PDP has 23 governors.

Although it was not clear why the invitation was not extended to all PDP governors, one governor who spoke to THISDAY said: “There was no formal letter as usual; we were contacted to be the guest of the president to a private dinner by him personally.
“I cannot state categorically the other governors who were invited, but from the calls I made, only 15 were invited.”

On what they would discuss during dinner, the governor said: “Let me not put the cart before the horse, let us wait till the outcome of the meeting.”

The governor also revealed that the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) would be meeting on Wednesday to discuss issues affecting the forum. One of the issues that might be tabled is the forthcoming election of its chairman slated for next month.

Rivers State Governor and current chairman of the forum, Chibuike Amaechi, is seeking re-election, but the presidency is opposed to his re-election bid.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has sacked some of his special advisers.

He did not give any reason for their sack, but sources confirmed that there has been a running battle between the personal aides of the chairman and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Before his removal by a court, the former National Secretary of the party, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, had accused Tukur of running a parallel NWC through his special advisers to the detriment of the official executive organ of the party.

Some of the chairman’s aides that might have been affected by the sack included his principal secretary, Senator Ibrahim Ida, and political adviser, Ahmed Gusau. Both are from the North-west geopolitical zone. The aides said to have survived the sack include the Special Adviser, Economic Affairs, Olukayode Akindele (South-west); Special Adviser, Inter-party Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Shittu (North-central); Special Adviser, Monitoring, Hon. Ben Mikko (South-south); and Special Adviser, Governors and Governance, Osaro Onaiwu (South-south).

Tukur met all his special aides on Wednesday last week in a farewell meeting where he thanked them for their services and threw the bombshell informing them of their sack as part of a strategy to re-position his office.
He had informed them that some of them would be reappointed as part of the reorganisation in the party.

But as the party reorganises, presidential campaign posters of the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and Amaechi flooded Minna, the Niger State capital, yesterday.

This is the second time the posters of both men as presidential and vice-presidential candidates have surfaced in state capitals.

The A2-sized posters were seen at strategic positions in Minna appealing to people of the state for support.
One poster had the inscription: “Support Alhaji Sule Lamido and Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi for Presidency 2015.”

RomanceHigh Prices Men Pay For Sex With Prostitutes They Take Home by Ifetex(op): 1:06pm On Apr 21, 2013
The police officer asks a middle-aged woman sarcastically: "Did he pop you?" Apparently uncomfortable with the presence of a small crowd that had gathered, she was reluctant to answer the question. But the man at the centre of the matter roundly denied the accusation. The sex hawker he brought home the previous night had alleged that he slept with her and refused to pay for services rendered all night long. He told the policemen who arrested him that he refused to pay her because he dozed off without touching her, due to excessive booze. It was obvious he did not convince the police because the prostitute was asked the same question again and replied: "He popped me."

This was despite the man insisted, "I didn't have sex with her and I can't pay for what I did not eat."

The incident was one of the endless stories of men who go home with sex hawkers but end up with ugly experiences. Checks reveal that the fear of prostitutes who agree to go home with their randy male clients is the beginning of wisdom for most night crawlers. For the cautious among these men, they sleep with one eye open, mindful that the bag of most call-girls are usually loaded with weapons of 'mass destruction' including razor blades, powdery substances that could be charms or drugs, and knives that come handy when a client proves difficult. For the uninformed, the drugs come useful when the hawker wants to put her host to sleep to enable her steal and escape.

Narrating his experience with a woman of easy virtue that he brought home one night, a man, Osas Ife [not real name], said: "These days, many prostitutes are not after sex or even their fees because for most of them, the fee is not enough.

"They can go any length to steal from the man who took them home. We [men] are after sex while they are strategizing on how to poison you, get your money and disappear. They want to get rich quickly, which makes them more devilish than armed robbers.

"When you call a hooker to join you, you need to observe whether she is the kind of person that doesn't take much drink because she might have a plan. While others are drinking and enjoying themselves, she keeps her head because she has a target – to loot. She came home with you, to drug you because maybe, she has an urgent financial need to meet. When you bring her to your house, she would take her bath before you. Then, as a man of the house, you would go to take your bath, and while you are still inside the bathroom, she would take a bottle of drink from your bar and drug it. She would pretend to like that particular drink and insist that both of you drink it.

"But the moment you drink it, she would quickly reject it, knowing you have consumed much, and demand for a different drink.

"I had been drugged by a prostitute, and before I woke up, she disappeared. She ransacked my house and made away with some of my expensive items and a friend's belongings that I had to pay for."

Osas was not the only one that had the ugly encounter with women of easy virtues. Ade, who pleaded to use only his first name, told story of a man duped at prominent hotel at Ajao-Estate recently.

"In the game between us and prostitutes, interests differ because they are after money, not for sex these days. Many of them have one thing at the back of their mind – how to drug you and take your money. Often times, they want to dupe you in order to attend to urgent needs either at school or their homes. They can eliminate you, to achieve their aim. It is really a cat and dog game. You really need to shine your eyes when you are with them because they can do anything. They always know why they came.

"Last week, we were in a hotel at Ajao-Estate, when one man narrated his experience in the hands of a prostitute. He said he met the girl at Ikeja and took her to an apartment where he spent three days with her. Listening to the man’s different calls from his business partners, the hooker realized that he does not live in Nigeria. Moreover, he counted his money in her presence because, according to him, the girl looked very decent.

"One day, the man came home with N500,000 that he couldn't pay into his bank and kept the money in his bag. Later, he invited her downstairs for a drink but the call girl said she was too tired to move out of the room. The man went downstairs and before he came back to the room, the girl had gone with the money he kept in the wardrobe.

"I opened the bag of a prostitute who came to my house some time ago. Do you know what I saw? Razor blade and white substance that I suspect, was drug. I refused to go and take my bath after her because of the fear of the unknown", he stated. Also, Ayo and his friend recalled how they were locked inside their room for refusing to pay a prostitute they took home after heavy drinking. "My friend and I went out to drink and after taking some bottles, we decided to go home with a prostitute. When we got home, my friend and I took our bath but she told us she did not need a bath. Apparently due to the heavy drink, we soon fell asleep without touching her, and the next day, she insisted that we must pay her, whereas we had paid her madam. While we were still on bed, arguing with her, she walked out of the room and locked us inside. It was our shout for help that attracted my neighbours who begged her before she opened the door. She threatened to throw away the keys and make us spend the whole day inside the room.

"My advice is, if you are going home with any of them, you must be smart and sharp. I didn't pay her because we gave her madam N5000," Ayo said.

Another victim, who identified himself as Bright, narrates how a fight erupted between him and a sex worker and he was forced to pay for services not rendered: "I am not the drinking type because I can't drink more than one bottle and a half. Whenever I drink above my limit and I take a prostitute home, I can't perform. On this particular occasion, I returned with one of them but I hardly touched her in the night because I was weak to the bone.

"She begged for it but I told her that I had no strength. She even came on top of me, yanked down my trousers and tried to arouse me but to no avail. The next morning, she demanded for her fee but I reminded her that I didn't shag her at night. We had a serious fight before neighbours separated us and advised me to pay her. Unknown to me, she had stolen some of my belongings. It was after she left that I discovered that some things were missing. Up till now, I have not set my eyes on that prostitute. I still go out to sleep with them, but I hardly bring them home because that one thought me a lesson. Each time I bring them to my house, I sleep with one eye closed while the other is open enough to watch her," Bright said.

PoliticsChristmas Day Bombing' Kairu Sokoto Plead Not Guilty To Terrorism Charge by Ifetex(op): 1:12pm On Apr 20, 2013
SUSPECTED mastermind of the 2011 Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madala, Niger State, Mr. Kabiru Umar, alias Kabiru Sokoto, Friday pleaded ‘not guilty’ to an amended two-count charge bordering on terrorism slammed against him by the State Security Service (SSS).

Umar, who was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, spoke through an interpreter having claimed not to understand English Language.

He pleaded not guilty as the counts of the charge were interpreted to him in Hausa language.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola adjourned the commencement of trial to May 2, 6 and 9, this year, and directed Umar’s lawyer, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu to front load every material document, as well as list of defence witnesses, required for his client’s defence.

Justice Ademola also directed him to serve the prosecutor, Ms. Chioma Odimegwu before the next adjourned date.

He further directed that the alleged terrorist be remanded in Kuje Prison to enable his lawyers have unfettered access to him for the preparation of his defence.

The court further took notice of Umar’s wife and two young children who were in court to catch a glimpse of their father whom they had not seen since his arrest and detention at the SSS facility, and ordered that the prison authority should grant his immediate family access to visitations.

The accused person was alleged to have facilitated the commission of a terrorist act by planning and encouraging his boys who are said to be at large, at Mabira Sokoto in Sokoto State, with the intention to bomb the Police Headquarters in the state between 2007 and 2012.

CelebritiesThe Man, JIM IYKE & His Many Undoings by Ifetex(op): 12:31pm On Apr 20, 2013
…Speaks on why he’s a rebel!
Love him or loathe him, Jim Iyke is one of the very few Nollywood stars who have a knack for gaining attention. From his bad boy/lover boy movie persona to his more than fair share of media outbursts, not to mention the whole AMVCA fiasco, Jim Iyke has lived his life in the pages of newspapers. His controversial lifestyle has become a way of life for him, yet he’s the most sought after in the industry.

In an attempt to give a new meaning to his life, Jim during the week debuted with his reality TV show on DStv called, Jim Iyke Unscripted, where he decides to unveil himself to the world. In this engaging interview, he talks about the show, the man, Jim Iyke and his many undoings.

What’s Jim Iyke Unscripted all about?
It’s a chronicle of my everyday life. An unbarred access into my life by cameras which capture the essence of my existence. Mostly my beliefs, my philosophy, my ideology and my everyday life. I wanted a perspective that is entirely mine so that when people choose to make judgments about me, my brand and life, they will have a second thought. For once in my life, I want people to see me in my entirety without bias and to judge me without prejudice. This is the platform for me to tell my story not doctored, unscripted and on a different platform.
How long did it take you to conceptualise this idea?
They have been chasing me around to actualise this dream since middle of last year. Initially, I refused doing it. But you see, I was bored while sojourning in Nollywood. It’s the same run-of-the mill. I’m not saying that Nollywood is not a great entity because it’s the industry that made me who I am today. I am eternally grateful to Nollywood. But there is need for me to move on and stop travelling in circle.

I think it was at this point that the idea was born. I didn’t believe in a reality TV show. I have paid my dues in every respect. I was waiting for the time the right role will come my way. It was at that point, that Greyology Inc started managing me. According to them, I was picked because they thought I was the only person who could propagate the African brand. I felt honoured.

However, in the course of our discussion,I was eager to know the next step to take. OH Africa and AfricaMagic at that point told me that I live a very interesting life that involves travelling around the globe. In fact, I travel to an average of twelve countries every year on my own personal capacity. They were also eager to know what I do in these countries. And when I told them, they were excited, hence they suggested that we capture my travelling life through a reality TV show.

Initially, I didn’t buy the idea as I never believed in a reality TV show. But on a second thought, I said to myself whether I like it or not, reality TV is the new TV show. The biggest of the names are doing it, and the ones who are not involved are trying to be part of it. TV content is becoming increasingly boring, you need to hold an audience that cut across every facet of life. And the only thing that brings them together is a reality TV show.

I knew it was coming and the question is, who is going to be in the forefront when it arrives. Am I going to keep refusing and be another guy that is experimenting on an idea that has already been experimented. I have never shy away from taking bold decisions or going against the dream.

They went further to argue that the entirety of my brand and my person has always been taken from the point of view of others, namely, the press, my family, my friends, people that are not really my friends and bloggers. There has always been a story to tell about me and people have drawn conclusion based on what they read in the dailies and soft-sell magazines and created their own judgement from it.

You travelled to how many countries to shoot the series?
We travelled to over eight countries and ten cities to shoot the series. Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, London, Armsterdam, America, Dubai and Nigeria. In every sense of the word, it got a global perspective.

Before coming up with this project, there was another project you anchored called, Jewel for Jim. What happened to the show?

It was a novel idea at that point in time. But everything in life has time frame. It was about me looking for love in continental America. While I wasn’t given to it, I thought it was fun travelling from city to city. I was in America for two months, and there was this group of nice people who offered to bankroll my stay in America, just for us to have fun. They sold the idea of the project, Jewel for Jim. But at a point, a better part of me cautioned and said, hold on, this is not where you should be heading to. At that point, I pulled out.

Did you find the love you were looking for thereafter?
I didn’t find a brass. There were a lot of Latino women, Caribbean women, Africans in the diaspora. Seeing all kinds of not too delectable women. It was a bit flattery.I retraced my steps the moment I realised it wasn’t the right place for me to be.

In your opinion, would you say, you have been misunderstood over the years?
I have always been misunderstood. Many times when things happen, I hardly come out to state my own side of the story. This is because I hate to join issues with anybody. Nobody likes to be intensively scrutinised. I have felt that intrusion in the deepest part of my life. I think that’s what made me to rebel to some extent. You know what happens when fingers are pointed at you. I’ve seen people who do not live a normal life, yet they are first to point accusing fingers at others.

The press didn’t help matters in my case. Who is paying the price? They forget that I have a family which I’m answerable to. It’s my parents who get hurt whenever wrong things are written about me. People who are dear to me probably do not find what they are doing very funny. So, while these were going on, it degenerated to the point where it became a way of life for me. It became a belief in Nigeria and Africa. And everybody that has been affiliated with my brand over the years readily Unscripted has given me an avenue to revisit every issue that has been an issue in my life. It came up during the course of our shooting the series. One way or the other, on the social media, with the print and electronic, personal issues with friends and fans which I’ve taken actions in the wrongest forms. In such little thing as business, people do business and end up in court because of disagreement.

And while it’s easy to point accusing fingers at me and call me names because I’m in the limelight and of course, pointing accusing fingers at me will make news. People forget that I’m a normal human being that is going through the normal issues in terms of business transactions. I can’t come out to claim that some people tried to defraud me because nobody knows them. At the end of the day, it takes the strongest of character to survive all the ordeals.

And while I’ve survived it, it has made me stronger and wiser. Yes, I don’t shy away from life experiences and I’m not ashamed of them. They don’t embarrass me because I’ve embraced them. They inform me, they order my steps, they strengthen my conviction and tell me the direction to follow. And that I think more than anything else re-enforces my philosophy.

Jim Iyke has virtually achieved everything he set out to achieve, except finding the love of his life. Is Jim ever thinking of settling down?

We are on it, and I’m working even harder in my career too. I don’t know anyone that works harder than I do. But again, I enjoyed my relationships on the pages of newspapers and I know it always ends adversely. So, I’ll rather keep this one very close to my chest and when we are both ready, we’ll announce to the whole world. Are you saying you are in a relationship at the moment?
I didn’t say yes or no. Anybody can think whatever he or she likes.

But isn’t that the problem because you hardly say anything and people put words into your mouth?

They don’t put words into my mouth. They put words into their own mouths. That is what informs the essence of my brand. The fact that it’s easy for people to blow things out of proportion and we create the excitement as it seems. I can’t help that course, and why I said this, is that it can’t help my brand. Personally, it caused me a great deal of distress. At the end of the day, somebody suffers for it every time the wrong conclusion is made-either somebody is doing business or about to do business with me.

Was it something you wanted to create; the bad boy of Nollywood?
It wasn’t what I set out to create. It was forced on me to make a little noise with it. Everybody has a claim to fame and obviously, it was because of the few roles I played when I started acting which happened to be bad boy roles. So, it’s easy when you are dealing with a country where certain things are consciously embraced. Nigerians are stubborn in what they accept and it’s very hard to break it.

We are very traditional thinkers. So, if Nigerians label somebody as ‘a bad person’, it becomes a trademark. Importantly, when you weigh your pros and cons, it comes to a point where you throw your hands up and surrender. As long as people that care for me, no matter how small they are, I’ll survive. It is not the best notion, but I’ve always survived. Unscripted is the wisest project for me to embark upon.

What are we expecting to see in Jim Iyke Unscripted?
Expect everything that’s unplanned, a risk and people with a logical view will not say or do. There are things in Unscripted that will hurt me but I just want to tell my story. I’m tired of being judged for the wrong reason. I want to give people a proper perspective. When you have a proper perspective, then, you’re being judged in totality and not in a biased way. I just want to tell my story because I’m tired of people telling my story for me whether in good or in bad faith.

Will you say it’s a way of re-branding yourself?
Re-branding is making it commercial because people’s argument is that I was paid a lot of money to do it. It’s not shady and I have some kind of incentives to do this. It’s not easy to take a large number of people across the globe to shoot the series because that’s what my life is all about.

It’s easier to budget myself into my day’s endeavour but to take in all lessons and everybody wants to have the best of things. So, it takes a lot of money. The returns were not shady but the focal point is to tell a story that’s been told for over a decade by people that were not in the know. Whatever anybody wants to say in the simplest form is that it came from the horse’s mouth.

How do you relate with women around you?
I grew up among women. It’s another thing that people find very hard to embrace. I grew up traditionally. I have traditional Igbo parents. No matter how enlightened you are, your people are domiciled on tradition and culture. A Nigerian is a Nigerian and trust me, I’ve travelled round the globe and I can pick our people out from a crowd of millions without saying a word.

I’m a Nigerian. I propagate this gospel anywhere I go to. We are arrogant and rash, we are one in five and we cannot go unnoticed. So, when you are in a place headlining people that are smart, you have to be exceptional. Our women are the same; outgoing, strong, goal-getters even when they are doing the wrong things, they do it with an air of certainty.

So, I grew up with open-minded women and if you are a man who is not strong, you may find their ways reprehensible. If you grow up in such a circle, your first friends are women. I’ve dated people who always question my relationship with other women. How can you tell me a woman is your best friend and you are with me? But then, I’ve made men my best friend and they didn’t add any value to my life. But because I grew up in the company of women, I understand how it works. I know how to demarcate the two boundaries.

PoliticsFirefighters, Others Missing After Deadly Texas’ Fertiliser Plant’s Blast by Ifetex(op): 12:09pm On Apr 20, 2013
WITH the number of the dead still remained unclear, rescue teams launched a door-to-door search Thursday for victims after a massive explosion at a fertiliser factory, which also levelled much of West town, Texas, United States (U.S.).

Police Thursday said the number of those killed could be between five and 15, according to reports by Cable News Network (CNN) and Agence France Presse (AFP).

However, officials said more than 160 people were injured and “three to four” firefighters were missing or unaccounted for.

In a country already on edge from Boston Marathon attacks, the factory blew up in a huge fireball late Wednesday, destroying scores of nearby homes.

But the U.S. President Barack Obama vowed yesterday that investigators would find the bombers who attacked the Boston marathon and make them “accountable”.

“Yes, we will find you, and yes, you will face justice,” Obama told a special inter-faith service in the city, three days after the attacks which killed three people and injured about 180.

Obama also stood in solidarity with China, mourning the loss of a Chinese student who was among three people killed in the terror attack on the city’s marathon.

Boston University graduate student, Lu Lingzi, was named as one of those who died when two deadly bombs exploded near the finish line during Monday’s race, injuring another 180 people.

“Our prayers are with the Lu family of China who sent their daughter Lingzi here to she could experience all the city had to offer. A 23-year-old student far from home,” Obama told a special inter-faith service at Boston’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

“And in the heartache of her family and friends on both sides of the great ocean, we’re reminded of the humanity that we all share.”

Also yesterday, Obama, in a statement, offered the prayers of the nation to the people of West Town.

“A tight-knit community has been shaken, and good, hard-working people have lost their lives,” he said.

Obama offered aid through the Federal Emergency Management Administration and promised “to make sure there are no unmet needs as search and rescue and response operations continue.”

Meanwhile, authorities said they feared they would find a lot more bodies in the rubble of homes and businesses levelled by the force of the blast.

Sergeant Patrick Swanton of the nearby Waco, Texas police department said that officials don’t yet know what caused the explosion, but are treating the site as a crime scene.

“We are not indicating that it is a crime, but we don’t know,” Swanton told U.S. media overnight.

“What that means to us is that until we know that it is an industrial accident, we will work it as a crime scene,” he said.

The main investigation was being led by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Swanton said the death toll is “anywhere from five to 15 at this point” but expected to rise. Hospitals have treated more than 160 people with varying injuries.

He said law enforcement and rescue officials were conducting a massive search for survivors.
