Ayodele Fayose, a former Governor of Ekiti State, has talked tough.

The former governor assured Nigerians that despite his support for the incumbent administration, he would be the first to tackle President Bola Tinubu if he fails to deliver on his campaign promises.

Fayose, who spoke after his meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, however, said he has always spoken well about the president.

The former governor expressed optimism that the current administration would give Nigerians the desired governance.

According to him, the President means well for the country, citing Tinubu’s actions so far since the government was inaugurated on May 29.

He said, “May I say to you, ladies and gentlemen of the press, let me tell you, if Asiwaju turns back on his promise, all he said when he was campaigning, I will be the first to talk. I am not timid and I don’t shy away from facing challenges.

“But the man I have seen today, I don’t eulogise and I don’t praise to curry favour, I am no more a small boy. Let me tell you, the man I saw today and for the actions we have seen, means well for Nigeria”.

Threads app has being trending in the last few months, Twitter alternatives — new and old — have found an audience willing to try out a new text-based social network. Mastodon, Bluesky, Spill and T2 are some of the social media platforms people are trying out. Now, Meta has stepped into the game with a big launch tied to Instagram.

What is Threads? How do you create an account?
Threads is Meta’s text-based Twitter rival. It is tied to your Instagram account, so you can create an account by logging in using your Instagram credentials.

How is it different from Twitter?
Currently, there are no paid tiers and ads on the app. However, your verification mark from Instagram is carried over — even if you have paid for Meta Verified. Users can take advantage of their Instagram network to find people to follow.

The app has just launched, but it doesn’t have Twitter-like features such as long video, direct messages and live audio rooms.

How do you use Threads?
The platform is currently available on iOS and Android in more than 100 countries. However, due to privacy concerns, the app is not currently available in the EU. Because you are logging in through your Instagram account, you will be able to follow all folks that you follow. You will also import your username, name and settings like block list.

How many users does this thing have?
Within hours of launch, Threads has crossed the mark of 10 million signups. Within 24 hours, it passed 30M signups.

What are the limitations of posting on Threads?
Users can post 500 characters in one post on the app. The post supports images, videos and GIFs. A Thread post supports up to 10 media items.

Can you use Threads on the web?
You can view Thread posts and profiles on the web through a link. However, you can’t log in through your own account and make posts.

How do you delete your Threads account?
You can deactivate your Threads account, but to delete the account completely, you must delete your Instagram account, according to Meta’s “Supplemental Privacy Policy.” After users complained about this, Mosseri said that the company is “looking into a way to delete your Threads account separately.”

Does Threads have a “Following” timeline?
At the moment, Threads doesn’t have any timeline that shows posts only from accounts that you follow. The home timeline is algorithmic and it is a mix of posts from accounts you follow and other folks.

“We do rank posts lightly and show recommendations (posts from accounts you don’t follow) in the feed, which is particularly important for a new app before people follow enough accounts,” Instagram head Adam Mosseri said in a reply to a user.

The embattled former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, is still in Kuje prison despite being granted bail of N50 million by a Federal High Court.

Recall that Kyari was granted bail on Thursday after about 18 months in prison custody.

According to the Judge, Kyari and his team refused to escape when they had the chance to do so during the Kuje Prison attack on July 5, 2022.

He ruled that Kyari’s refusal to escape when about 90 per cent of the inmates escaped, “has proven that Kyari is ready to face any allegations against him.”

He said: “On the possibility of the 1st defendant (Kyari) attending his trial, it is pertinent to state that, according to the affidavits in support of the application, the applicant stated that he was in detention at the Kuje prisons when the jailbreak of 5th July 2022 occurred and he stayed put, even though he had the opportunity of escaping.

“This deposition was not challenged by the complainant/respondent (NDLEA) which means it is admitted. This shows that the applicant is unwilling to run away from his trial and has shown a willingness to attend court when required.

“This piece of fact will work in favour of the applicant, in that, it is proof to the court that the applicant would not jump bail if granted the same. I note that there have been rulings denying the 1st defendant/applicant bail.

“I am, however, minded to grant him bail as he was been in detention for a long time and also based on his constitutional right to bail according to section 36(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

“He has not committed a capital offence neither has it been proved that he is a flight risk. I, therefore, therefore exercise my discretion in favour of the defendant/applicant.”

The judge added that all the “allegations are all bailable” and he is not “a flight risk”.

Justice Omotosho granted conditional bail to Abba Kyari at the sum of N50m with two sureties in like sum. He added that the sureties must have property worth N250m within the jurisdiction of the court, among other conditions.

He ordered Kyari and the sureties to deposit their international passport, their statement of accounts, the title deed of the sureties’ property and recent passport photographs with the registrar of the court.

It was gathered that the suspended DCP’s release would depend on developments in another case in which he was charged with four others on drug-related offences.

The judge revealed that Abba Kyari would only be granted bail if the other pending criminal cases are concluded or if he is granted bail in those cases.

French football powerhouse, Paris Saint-Germain have issued a warning to their striker, Kylian Mbappe.

PSG have again reiterated that Kylian Mbappe must sign a new contract or risk being sold this summer.

Last month, Mbappe wrote a letter to the Ligue 1 champions, making it clear he won’t extend his deal beyond June 2024.

This means that if PSG don’t sell him before next season, they risk losing the France forward on a free transfer.

But the club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, speaking on Wednesday, stated that Mbappe will not be allowed to run down his deal.

Adeyeye Adeola, known as Chef Deo from Ondo, reportedly turned off the gas burner during the cook-a-thon to eat the food she had prepared.

The Ondo Chef began her quest to break the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon, outdoing Hilda’s impressive 150-hour cook-a-thon.

With a lot of support from some social media users, she began a few days ago.

The chef’s cook-a-thon is currently going on at the TMF Lounge and Bar in Ile Oluji, Ondo state, Nigeria.

One of the rules of the cook-a-thon Guinness World Record is not to turn off the gas burner during the race.

Making hit songs isn’t that easy otherwise everyone would do it. It takes a lot to even get one hit but it takes even more to have a lasting relevance in the music business.

Every year, there are new artistes coming out. The public have fickle taste which makes the industry ever competitive. There’s a need for artistes to be on their toes at all times, constantly bringing the goods to cement their names in the industry.

Many artistes have shot to fame rapidly and went down the drain in the blink of an eye. Sometimes, it’s without a trace. This leads us to the case of Mish; the Akwa Ibom Ayaya hit-maker.

In 2011, Michael Aniekeme Meshach came through with “Akwa Ibom Ayaya“, probably the biggest song out of Nigeria that year. The success of the song knew no borders, ranking in charts outside of Africa. A couple of years after the initial release, the song still enjoyed massive airplay nationwide.

In Akwa Ibom Ayaya, Mish expresses a nostalgia for his routes. A conscious song that brings light to the uniqueness and sweetness of one’s home. Indeed, there’s ‘no place like home.’

Mish went mainstream in the aftermath of the song’s release. Even the then Governor of Akwa Ibom state lauded the son of the land who made the song. Mish had brought international publicity to his state of origin.

Mish released an album titled Made In Nigeria in 2017 with people barley even noticing. Perhaps, the public had moved on from the view of Mish as an aesthetic singer, who blends Africa music with Western sounds.

It would be harsh to label Mish a ‘One hit wonder’. “Every Woman Is Beautiful” is another of his hugely impressive song. It was also a hit back in the days. But since his emergence, there had been a sense that it would be otherworldly for him to eclipse Akwa Ibom Ayaya as his best record. Time brought these thoughts more light.

In the case of Mish, it is not a matter of lack of efforts to come up with more good music. He has been trying as evidenced in his 2017 album and multiple other singles. It is a matter of fact; merely any of them is as catchy or inspiring as his breakout hit.

In a somber manner, Mish has lost his relevance to the Nigerian music industry, fading away like a fall from the skies.

Twitter, the globally popular microblogging site, has made new some changes.

The site has slammed restrictions on users’ number of post reads per day in a bid to curb data scraping and system manipulation.

The platform’s Executive Chairman, Elon Musk, announced this via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

He said the restrictions are a temporary measure.

According to the new rule, verified accounts are limited to reading 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts 600 posts per day, and new unverified accounts to 300 posts per day.

Musk’s announcement was welcomed with knocks, with many condemning the restrictions, which they said was a plot to make more users subscribe to the Twitter blue badge.
