Travel / My Son Is Fascinated With Planes, But Must Not Work For Arik Air by igelomo(m): 6:42pm On May 02, 2013
My eight-year-old son is fascinated with planes so much that he wants to become a pilot when he grows up. I am solidly behind him in this dream, only with a caveat that he must not work for Arik Airline, even if they come begging until they mend their ways. This is due to a series of unfortunate traumas that Arik exposed his father, me, to in the last one year. The disappointment, embarrassment and pain were enough to make one strike off air travels within Nigeria from his ‘conveniences’. Unfortunately, Nigerian roads are simply not a better option, especially for long distance travels. Another option would have been to use another airline, but much as I hate to admit it, Arik remains the ‘best’ option in the rot in our aviation industry. Yet, I simply cannot believe that a business concern can treat its customers that way and get away with it. Let me narrate only two of my recent ordeals.

In September last year, I was asked by my organisation to travel to China in respect of some negotiations relating to technology transfer from China to Nigeria. I was very happy because, not only was I being involved in something potentially beneficial to my country, but I was also having an opportunity to see for myself the success story of that country that had already become the second largest economy in the world. Dana air crash was still on my mind; I had lost two people in it and the thought of flying was always a painful reminder… and a scare. Additionally, there was no direct flight from my location in Nigeria to China. I needed to fly to Lagos before boarding Emirates to China. That meant I had to use a Nigerian airline if I would not go by road. So I went to Arik’s webpage and booked a Kaduna-Lagos-Kaduna journey. They were to take me to Lagos on my way out of the country and pick me from Lagos on my way back home. I paid, printed my tickets and with Dana on my mind, I left the rest to God.

Business / “free” Credit-card Benefits You Don’t Know You Have by igelomo(m): 8:35am On May 01, 2013
You almost certainly know about the miles or points you get on each credit-card purchase — presumably, that’s why you chose the card or cards you use for travel. And you may know about the collision coverage most cards provide for a rented car. But many cards provide other travel benefits that you might not even know you have.

Rental-Car Collision Coverage

As I said, you probably know about this, but for those who don’t, rental-car collision coverage is by far the most important travel benefit your credit card provides. If you rent with a card offering this benefit and the car is damaged during the time you rent, the card picks up whatever costs you can’t first recover from your regular insurance. All you have to do is use a qualifying card and decline the rental company’s outrageously expensive collision damage waiver (CDW). This benefit is worth big bucks: CDW charges can go as high as $30 per day, sometimes more than the base rental rate. All AmEx, Diners Club, and Visa cards, as well as most Discover cards and many MasterCards offer this feature.

Most card coverage is secondary, meaning it covers only what you can’t first recover from your regular automobile insurance. However, all Diners Club cards and a few MasterCards and Visa cards offer primary coverage, which means the card picks up the entire cost and you don’t have to claim on your regular policy. AmEx also offers primary coverage for an extra fee.

Common-Carrier Lost Baggage

If you buy an airline, bus, rail, or other “common carrier” ticket with your card and then check baggage, Visa premium cards, most AmEx cards, and quite a few others cover you if the baggage (some cards say “luggage”) is permanently lost, stolen, or damaged. Typically, card coverage is secondary, meaning that you must first claim from the carrier. Coverage limits vary: The card may cap collection at a typical figure of $3,000, or the card may provide coverage of a claim that exceeds the carrier’s maximum limit. Some cards cover carry-on as well as checked baggage.

The catch here is that payments on most such claims cover only the depreciated value of the items lost or damaged, not the replacement value. Many of you would have a tough time coming up with $3,000 worth of depreciated value for what’s in your baggage.

Trip Delay/Baggage Delay

If your trip is delayed, a few premium cards offer a modest amount of coverage toward the cost of meals, accommodations, and various “essential items.” Coverage kicks in only after a specified time, typically as long as 18 hours after the delay, and reimbursement may be net of what you can first recover from your carrier. Once quite prevalent, this card benefit is now available only on a few cards.

Roadside Assistance

Visa premium cards, most AmEx cards, and many others offer a somewhat slimmed-down version of the type of roadside assistance you can get from AAA if a car you’re driving runs out of gas, suffers a flat, or experiences a dead battery. But if you’re in a rental car, call the rental company first.

Accident Insurance

Remember back when many travelers routinely fed a handful of quarters into a machine in the airport lobby to buy a “flight insurance” policy for their trip? Even then, this insurance was a bad buy: It exploited the generally prevalent fear of air crashes. Fast-forward to today, when many credit cards provide up to $500,000 in “accidental death and dismemberment” (ADD) insurance for travel on any common carrier. The chances that you or your estate will actually collect anything are, as the mathematicians say, “vanishingly small.” But as long as it’s “free,” you don’t really care.

Trip-Cancellation/Interruption Insurance

Credit cards may provide a low-value trip-cancellation/interruption (TCI) benefit. The benefit is similar to conventional TCI, but when the coverage is “free,” the dollar limit is low. Only a few premium cards provide this benefit “free,” including Capital One World MasterCard, Chase Sapphire card, and several premium Citi cards.

Quite a few card issuers offer to sell conventional TCI policies at generally competitive prices. But that’s a convenience, not a benefit.

Airport-Lounge Entry

A few premium airline co-branded cards include entry into the sponsoring airline’s lounge clubs and those of its alliance partners. AmEx Platinum cards include entry into several airline as well as non-airline lounge programs. Where available, this benefit is worth big bucks. Although card-based entry privileges may be a bit below those of full members, you pay less for them. Regular memberships in big-airline programs cost around $500 per year, so even with the AmEx Platinum card’s annual fees of around $450, entry privileges can actually cost less than regular membership.

Concierge Services

A few premium cards provide arrangements with local agencies that fill the function of a good concierge in major cities: They can arrange sightseeing, tickets to local entertainment, tables at famous restaurants, and such. Some years ago, a credit-card concierge program scored tickets for my wife and me to a supposedly “sold out” Vienna Opera production. Although the service is “free,” you obviously have to pay for whatever the concierge arranges.

Referral Services

Many credit cards provide referrals to medical and legal services wherever you are. Also, some cards facilitate local replacement if you lose prescription drugs. As with any concierge, all you get “free” is the referral; you have to pay for the services you use.

Choosing a Card

If you travel at all frequently, it makes sense to use a credit card with a broad range of travel benefits. Start by checking the features and possible upgrade options of the cards you already use. If your current cards come up short, visit a credit-card comparison website such as LowCards (I’m indebted to LowCards’ Bill Hardekopf for bringing some of these ideas to my attention).

Unfortunately, with the general exception of rental-car collision coverage, neither LowCards nor its main competitors tabulate these other benefits in detail. You can, however, compare the benefits of all AmEx cards on the American Express website and all Visa cards on Visa’s comparison website. MasterCard’s benefits are not as consistent as Visa’s, so you have to check each card individually. Discover includes only collision and accident insurance, and overseas acceptance is limited.

Travel / Phil-ebosie Holds The Record And Not Favour, Nigeria’s Youngest Commercial Pilot by igelomo(m): 5:15pm On Apr 30, 2013
Investigations supported by records from the Nigerian Civil Aviation School has shown that Mr. Sam Phil-Ebosie holds the record of being Nigeria’s youngest commercial pilot licensee; and not Favour Odozor as reported by the media weeks ago.

20 year old Favour Odozor who graduated at the Afrika Union Aviation Academy (AUAA), Mafikeng, South Africa was reported as the youngest Nigerian pilot to get the Commercial Pilot Licence, CPL.
However, the late Sam Phil-Ebosie who passed away in 2012, graduated as a licensed commercial pilot at the age of 19 in 1970.

Sam was born 27th July 1951, after his secondary school education at Kings College Lagos was admitted into the second course at the Nigerian Civil Aviation School Zaria, graduating top of his class as a pilot in 1970.

According to investigations, “He thereafter commenced his commercial flying career with the then Nigerian Airways Ltd. Through his career, he was trained on the Fokker 27, Fokker 28, Boeing 737, Boeing 707 and DC 10. While at Nigeria Airways, he was confirmed the youngest Fokker F 27 Captain at the age of 25 years in 1977. The height of his professional flying career was when, as the youngest ever captain in the world, he flew the wide bodied aircraft at the age of 30 years in 1981”.

During his career, he was Captain for the Presidency on the Presidential Fleet who flew President Shehu Shagari, Vice President Alex Ekweme on several occasions.
Sam who later retired from Nigeria Airways in 1985, worked with other international aviation companies Saudi Airlines; PH Aviation Teterboro, New Jersey, UPS, New York and Federal Express Memphis.

He retired from commercial flying after 27 years in 1995. Upon retirement he set up his own private aviation support company called Skynote and until his death, remained a keen aviator, consulting in different areas of the aviation sector.

Travel / How Airlines Can Pay You Back The Difference In Air Fares After Ticket Purchase by igelomo(m): 1:15pm On Apr 30, 2013
Have you ever bought with a ‘low-cost’ airline, only to watch the price slide down on your ticket after you’ve already paid?

Did you know you can actually do something about it?

While we are all used to sneaky charges levied by airlines, we are less used to payouts – but many providers offer price promise guarantees, which mean even if you missed out on the cheapest option, you could be refunded the difference.

Bought a flight? Find out if you are owed a refund from your airline

EasyJet

Despite the budget airline rule of thumb - the earlier you book, the cheaper the fare – easyJet often adjusts prices nearer departure to get rid of seats that have not been sold.

However, thanks to easyJet’s price promise, if you book a flight through its website and later find the fare has fallen before takeoff, you can claim a credit voucher towards your next flight.

Each leg of the journey is treated separately, so even if one leg goes up and the other down you can still apply for the refund.

This price promise is a little-known secret. It has been running for around five years now, but most people don’t know about it.

The small print:

If you spot that your fare has dropped, get on the phone as quick as you can to the customer service team (0843 104 5000). Forget emails or writing in – you can only claim your credit voucher via the call center.

Claims can only be made while the lower flight price is still on sale, so if you don’t act fast you’ll miss out. You will probably face a tedious queue - try not to let this put you off.

Credit vouchers can only be claimed by the person that made the original booking, but any price refund will cover everyone in the party.

Prices are checked while you are on the phone and you will then be given a reference code to quote against future bookings. Write this down and keep it safe, even if you are told you will get email confirmation.

Vouchers can only be used on bookings made via the call center, rather than online, although you will still qualify for the discounted web rate.

Credit vouchers expire six months from the date of issue, but you can book a flight for any time within a year – easyJet’s only exception to their price promise is if the lower fare is part of a sale.

This is Money says:

easyJet offers the best deal in the market, hands down. Admittedly you may have to jump through a few hoops, but the end result is absolutely worth it. If you book with easyJet, make sure you get into the habit of always checking fares before departure so you can get a refund if seats have fallen in price.

British Airways

If you find the same one-way or return flight (operated by British Airways) cheaper elsewhere online, once you have made your booking on ba.com, you will be refunded the difference.

The small print:

All claims must be made by midnight on the day of your purchase and you may be asked to send in a screenshot. Claims have to be made using a claim form, which you can find here.

BA are pretty tough on the rules – the cheaper fare quoted must be for the exact same route, with each leg of the trip flown in the same order, for the same dates and flight numbers and for the same type of ticket.

Flights with stop-overs are excluded and the price promise does not apply where the cheaper online fare is a discounted or promotional fare, or forms part of a travel package.

Bookings covering multiple passengers must be submitted as one claim and not separate claims for each passenger.

If the claim meets all the terms and conditions of price promise, a refund for the difference between flights will be credited within 28 days – handy for covering extra holiday costs!

This is Money says:

Instead of kicking yourself if you find a cheaper deal on your flight, this price promise means you can actually do something about it. But you have to act quickly – if you don’t get your form in by midnight you won’t get a refund.

However, as it is unlikely that you will shop around immediately after having bought your flight, it does seem a little pointless.

There is a slim chance you might have missed a cheaper deal though. So if you buy with BA check a few other sites a couple of hours after buying your flight – just in case.

Virgin

Stiff competition: Airline providers like Richard Branson’s Virgin offer a variety of price promises

Virgin has a similar offering to BA – it promises to refund you the difference if you find a cheaper ticket with it on another website.

However, the Virgin price promise only applies to return flights to and from the UK, rather than both single and returns, bought online on the Virgin Atlantic website.

The small print:

The class purchased must be the lowest fare available within the booked class, for example ‘economy’. Any journey where the booking is made up of a section provided by Virgin Atlantic Airways and another by another airline is excluded.

To be eligible for Virgin Atlantic Airway’s price guarantee you must have found a fare on a website other than www.virginatlantic.com for the same Virgin Atlantic Airways return flights as yours, for the same dates, route and number of passengers.

Again, claims can only be made via an online form.

The price guarantee will not apply if the cheaper online fare has been discounted using vouchers, loyalty rewards, frequent flyers miles or any other offers.

You have to supply evidence of the cheaper quote in the form of a print out or an attachment of the fare, together with a copy of the conditions for the cheaper quote.

If the claim meets all the terms and conditions, a refund of the difference between costs will be credited the credit or debit card that was used to pay for the booking within 28 days.

What This is Money says:

Again, this deal is nothing on easyJet’s price promise. Although both Virgin Atlantic and BA offer a cash refund, rather than credit vouchers, their price promise is limited time-wise and really only useful if you haven’t shopped around before buying your ticket.

Ryanair

Ryanair is not currently running a price guarantee scheme.

However, until recently (March 2013) it was offering a brilliant deal, whereby those that found a cheaper equivalent fare with another airline would be refunded ‘double the difference’ by Ryanair.

A Ryanair spokesperson told This is Money the budget airline was considering re-implementing the scheme.

Robin Kiely said: ‘The continuation of the double difference offer is currently under consideration. However, Ryanair continues to offer passengers the lowest fares with no fuel surcharges guaranteed, across over 1,500 routes, as well as the number one customer service, which is why we’ll carry over 80m passenger this year.’

Crime / Lagos Airport Robbery Suspects Speak Out by igelomo(m): 12:24pm On Apr 30, 2013
The syndicate was made up of gangs spread across the South western part of the country including Lagos. Penultimate week, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Lagos State Police command, led by Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police SP made a haul of the members that robbed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The robbery incidence reverberated in many parts of the country.

There had been similar assault on the airport by armed bandits last year. Hoodlums that carried out the operation made away with large sums of money. Interestingly, some of the members of the gangs who perpetrated the act last year participated in this year’s attack, going by their confessions. The latest attack which took place on March 13, 2013, resulted to death of two police men in addition to large sums of money carted by the hoodlums.

Two weeks ago, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, had paraded seven key members of the gang. These were Ibikunle Alarewanju John, Atobi Adeniyi, Ibrahim Adullahi, Kazim Aderibigbe, Saheed Adekunle a.k.a SP, Christian Joshua aka Onyeze and Saheed Okunola.

Recovered from them were five AKA 47 rifles, Four dynamites, two locally made pistols, 64 AK 47 rifles’ magazines all loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition totaling 1,920 live ammunitions, Toyota Sienna Space Bus with Reg. No BDG 918 AG and charms.

Meanwhile, prior to the parade and in recognition and reward for hard work Manko had presented certificates of commendation award issued by the Inspector General of Police IGP Mohammed Abubakar to Kyari and 17 other officers and men serving in his squad for acts of bravery and gallantry.

The Commissioner, had while handing over the certificates on behalf of the IGP, disclosed that that was the second time Kyari was bagging the IGP award for gallantry and good performance since he became the officer-in-charge of SARS 15th January, 2011.

The first award was dated December 24, 2012, while the second award was dated March 17, 2013.

Giving account of the activities of the arrested robbers, Manko said, “after the attack on the Murtala Mohammed International Airport MMIA on the 13th March, 2013 at about 1930 hours where two policemen were killed and several innocent citizens injured, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, forwarded the documents obtained from one of the armed robbers Teslim Okunola a.k.a Esho who was shot dead during the robbery to him, (CP Lagos)”.

According to him, he directed Kyari to go after the robbers with the instructions from the IGP.

“As a result, the following suspects Ibikunle Olarewanju a.ka. Pastor, Okunola Saheed and Saheed Adekunle aka SP were arrested in Lagos and Ikire in Osun State on the 20th March, 2013 and 23rd March, 2013 respectively. Also arrested are Atoba Adeniyi, Ibrahim Adullahi, Kazeem Aderibigbe and Christian Joshua”, he added.

The CP explained that all the suspects confessed participation in the robbery at the MMIA and several other operations in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Kwara States. These included the one in Oro First Bank/ Union Bank armed robbery in Kwara State in January 2013, First Bank/Wema Bank armed robbery in Ikirun in Osun State in December 2012 and the bullion van armed robbery attack at Odogbolu Junction along Lagos Ijebu-Ode Expressway in January 2013.

“They also confessed to the armed robbery attack at MMIA in February 2012, where about Six Hundred Million Naira was carted away”.

Her disclosed that suspects that participated in the 13th March, 2013 MMIA robbery included, Teslim Okunola aka Esho (now late), Kazeem Aderibigbe aka OJ – the middle man that linked the robbers with the informant, Ibrahim Abdullahi – the main informant, Emmanuel Ehianeta aka Arab.

Last week, precisely on April 15, 2013, one of the gang members took the SARS team to Ilorin, Kwara State where another member of the gang identified as Shina Aremu aka China was arrested.

Earlier on April 12, 2013, the SARS decoy team sent of Rivers State in search of a key member of the gang made a major breakthrough after gunning down one of the suspects identified as Chimaobi.

Chimaobi is said to have played key roles in major robberies including the Airport robbery and bank robberies in Kwara State. He was said to be a bomb and explosives expert who detonated bombs to break ATM machine and security doors during operations.

Chimaobi who was based in Port Harcourt, was said to have been captured by the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage during the First Bank robbery in Ilorin, Kwara state.

The SARS decoy team was said to have waited patiently in an ambush in his Port Harcourt home for 72 hours before he arrived and as he was about to be arrested, he grabbed the pistol of one SARS members prompting another SARS member to fire at him. He died on the way to the hospital.

Investigation revealed that the suspected robbers were of different gangs but usually fused together when there was a major operation.

Among the major gangs were the Yinusa and Godogodo gang.

SARS burst the gang when information was received that Yinusa was arrested in Ibadan and about to be charged to court for unlawful possession of stolen jeep. Yinusa had been on wanted list by the police in connection with several robbery incidents including September 9 and January robbery activities where five policemen were killed in Lagos.

He was said to be part of Victoria Garden City VGC robbery where robbers exchanged fire with policemen and escaped in two Jeeps. Unknown to the police, two of the robbers died inside the jeep while escaping.

Yinusa’s cup got filled up when he took a new jeep to a spray painter to be repainted to another colour claiming that his brother sent it to him from abroad. ‘Godogodo’ the gang leader was said to be in that operation, while A.Y. and another were killed by police in Ajah without noticing it. It was when Yinusa was arrested that he confessed to this.

According to him, Asiwaju received N180 million as his share of the operation, Arab got N180 million also.

Yinusa is said to be very conversant with Lagos Island, so when his gang wanted to operate in Island, he would lead. He is alleged to be the brain behind all the robberies in Island with Godogodo as chairman.

For the gang that operated in Osun State and robbed the First Bank and Wema Bank, the Bullion Van robbery of Ijebu-Ode, Kwara First Bank and Union Bank robberies, Christian Joshua was mentioned by an arrested robber as part of the gang which carried out the attack. He was arrested at Seme border area where he had gone to buy a vehicle. He then took the police to Cotonou to recover his bus that had a well constructed apartment for storing arms and ammunition.

In his confession, Christian 30, said; “I have been involved in one Bank robbery in Ijebu-Ode. It was Randy that introduced me to robbery in December last year. I was crossing goods for him in Seme border before he introduced me to robbery. It was not more than a year I knew him. He used to buy Hollandis cloths and I used to cross it for him.

“He introduced me to robbery while were eating at Ore because I followed him to supply cloth to a woman in Benin. He told me there was work that we would use this vehicle to do now. In the vehicle, there were arms and ammunition. He said they would use it to collect money from Bullion van. On the day of the operation, we were many. I know Kunle and Paul. We were eight in number. That was the bullion van robbery at Odogbolu, Ogun State.

“We saw the Van moving on the road and we blocked it. That was in this January. I was given N150, 000 because there was no much money in the van.

It was Randy that gave me N700, 000 to buy a bus at Cotonou for robbery. A box was constructed in it for armoury. I drove the vehicle during Bullion van robbery. There was shooting but nobody died. The bus was used to carry the gun and the vehicle was driven by me. I’m from Abia State”.

Another gang is Paul’s gang. Apart from participating in Kwara and Osun Bank robbery incidents, the Gang also was said to have taken part in Lagos Airport robbery.

42-year old Jamiu Fasasi, who is married with three children, was part of the gang.

In his confession, he said; “I’m from Gbaja, Kwara State. Wasiu, who is now dead, introduced me to Paul. Only on this January robbery of First Bank and Union Bank did I participate. We were about 13 persons including Paul and Ope. My role was to pack money. I was given N150, 000. We robbed the two banks the same day. It was First Bank I entered while others went into Union Bank. We divided ourselves because the banks were close to each other. We entered the bank by 5pm. We used Dynamite to open the door. Alfred threw the dynamite. We met two bank staff inside. They opened the safe for us. Nobody was killed.

I’m aware of the last operation at the airport, but did not participate”, he claimed.

Ifeanyi Douglas Onwuchi, while narrating his involvement in the operation said; “I’m from Ebonyi State; I’m 27. It was in Ajiwe in Ondo State that I was initiated. I went to visit my brother there and I used his bike to stroll out. Some people about four in the car, asked me to direct them since I was an Okada man. I told them I was not. One of them mounted the bike and pointed a gun on me and they collected my number.

Thereafter, they started calling me and said I should come to Ore. When I got to Ore, it was Chizoba that called me and told me they were going for robbery. We went to Osun State to rob. It was First Bank and Wema Bank. We were about 12 with two vehicles. I was given N380, 000. They opened the banks with dynamite. I was arrested at Ijebu-Ode Round About”.

In the words of 27-year old Yinusa Lati, another member of the gang; “I’m from Oniru in Victoria Island. I’m married.

Godogodo who lives in Ibadan is my leader. It was Obalola that introduced me to him. I was driving his bus. I had gone out for robbery with them for up to 15 times. We had robbed at Igando and Ajah. These were basically the places we used to rob. I bought Camry 2.4 (big for nothing) with the proceeds. The highest money I have received was N150, 000. I went to spray one Jeep at Ibadan when I was arrested. It was Godogodo that asked me to go and spray the Jeep. He used to command us. You dared not refuse his orders unless you wanted to die,” Lati said.

Adekunle Saheed aka S.P. said; “I’m from Ikirie in Osun State, married with two children. I was not operating with any gang but on Monday March 10, 2013, Esho came to my place because I was managing his farm (poultry and fish) I had already told him that we needed to upgrade the farm. So he told me that he would bring money on Thursday. He said I should follow him to Ijebu-Ode. We went to his friend Asiwaju’s farm. They took me inside bush where an oath was administered on us by Pastor Ibikunle. The oath was not to leak any secret. Around 2 pm I was asked to follow Atoba to Lagos. I was taken to Airport (Lagos) it was only I and Atoba.

At about 7pm, they arrived and started shooting gun. I wanted to meet them because I don’t know where the gun was coming. Asiwaju asked me to lie down, that he would kill me. Eventually after the operation I was given N500, 000. My role was to give information and monitor the area of operation. I was arrested in my village. I bought one motorcycle. The remaining money was in my room when I was arrested.

Toba Adeniyi, 32years, said; “I’m from Ibadan, Oyo State, I’m married with one child. I belong to Asiwaju gang. We have robed in International Airport, Lagos.

I received N500, 000. It was Kazeem aka O.J. that introduced me to robbery”.

Ibikunle John, 37years, in his confession said; “I’m from Ifon in Ondo State. I’m a spiritualist. I live at 73 Aliu Street, Egbe. I was the person that prayed for those who robbed in Airport. I was paid N500, 000. I waited for them at Berger and went down with them to Odogblu. It was there they paid me”.

Ibrahim Abdul, 31years, another gang member, said; “I’m from Plateau State. I’m married with two children. My involvement was that I gave my friend Kazeem information about money at the Airport because I used to push trolley for people coming from abroad. So Kazeem was the person that arranged the people that robbed. I was given N1.5million”.

27-year old Kazeem Aderihigbe, said; “I’m from Ogun State. I live at Meiran in Abule Egba. I’m married with a child. One day Abraheem Adul aka Alhaji came to meet me at Ikeja. He told me there was business at Airport.

He said there was a lot of money where they used to change money. I now contacted Ayo and Asiwaju on the deal. When they came, Alhaji explained the business. So he and Asiwaju agreed to organized people for the robbery. I did not follow them for the operation. After three days, Alhaji called me and said they havd done the job. So, I and Alhaji went to Ijebu to meet Asiwaju and I was given N1.5million”.

Sunday Felix, an Urhobo, belonged to the same gang with Arab from Edo State that included Monday. Monday is dead. According to Felix; “we have been operating in Lagos State. We snatched cars. I always carried the gang with CRV Jeep. I’m 31years. I’m married with one child. I participated in February last year robbery at Airport. I realized N45million.

At the last airport robbery, we realized N10million and I got N550, 000. We robbed banks in Osun State and Ondo State. From the first one, I got N500, 000; the second one, I got N150, 000. In the Ijebu Ode – Shagamu Express Way Bullion Van robbery, l got N150,00”.

It would be recalled that at the Airport robbery incidence, two policemen attached to Apapa Command were killed by robbers. But the policemen killed one of the robbers and made it impossible for the gang to carry the corpse.

Some of the items found on the dead robber provided information that led to the arrest of initial seven suspects by SARS.

9jageek: I've been emphasizing this phenomenon in countless articles I have written for many entertainment and technology blogs. Nollywood only needs to invest in quality and originality and they will soon be Nigeria's window to the World, kind of like what Bollywood did for India and the Chinese/Asian culture inspired films from the east. Originality and Quality
I think this is mainly the passion behind projects we are seeing like http://irokotv.com and http://9flix.com

Very well said!

Jamji: @op i got the popular $55 udesign theme free just using a particular search term on google.you see, people leave stuffs in their upload folder including themes they bought.many are just newbies who forgot to chmod the folders, so guys like us thank them for a good gesture. Is it our fault? I dont think so,thats the power of knowledgd. So why spending that amount on one when you can get many hq themes free?

As much as i can get themes from torrent sites, i would love to have access to a full support and ofcourse update the theme. But right now that am so frustrated, i just need a way out. Whether am paying for the theme or am getting a premium one free...all i need is a way out. So how you gonna help?

Politics / Rivers Govt Releases Statement On Grounding Of Amaechi’s Plane by igelomo(m): 7:04am On Apr 28, 2013
We had set out from Abuja in the morning of Friday April 26, 2013 to Imo State to attend the funeral rites of the younger sister of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. Our plane, a Bombardier jet owned by the Rivers State Government, landed at the airport in Owerri. It was in Owerri that the pilot of our plane was first tipped off that there is a plot to ground our plane in Owerri that Friday.

Fortunately for us, we took off from Owerri airport and arrived at Akure airport en-route to Ekiti for the burial of the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State Funmilayo Olayinka without any incident. On the flight to Akure was the Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal who we met in Imo State and was also heading to Ekiti for the burial of Mrs Olayinka. Also on the flight were the Governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the Director-General Nigeria Governors Forum(NGF) Asishana Bayo Okauru, Kalabari prince and politician, Prince Tonye Princewill, some aides of the Governor and me.

Nollywood Takes Another Great Leap As Emirates Introduces Nigerian Movies

Emirates, one of the world fastest growing airlines and leader in on-board entertainment, has introduced the world to the Nigerian movie industry in-flight. Emirates now features Nigerian movies on their award winning ice entertainment system on board all their 200 aircraft across the globe; connecting passengers with this growing industry, now the third largest in the world.

The Nigerian movie industry has been making great strides lately with some of its movies now being featured in international film festivals and premiered in Hollywood; for example, the latest Jeta Amata movie, Black November, recently had a red carpet premiere in Hollywood.

The growth in the industry has been propelled by its increasing popularity domestically as well as an audience that has gone beyond the original African fan base.

In less than two decades, Nigeria’s film industry, or “Nollywood as it has come to be known, has become the ‘embodiment of Nigeria’s soft power.’ It has become a phenomenon, which has helped shaped perceptions and provides a dramatic visualisation of the rich African culture and traditions. The Nigerian movie industry has also reflected the resilient entrepreneurial spirit of the continent and stands out as the cultural mainstay of Africans in the Diaspora.

The industry is set to mature and expand with more international exposures. The screening of Nigerian movies on Emirates Airline, a carrier known for service excellent and innovation, is a win -win both for the industry as a whole and entertainment-loving passengers from Nigeria and indeed the world over.

The Emirates ice (information, communications, entertainment), has been recognised as one of the world’s best in-flight entertainment systems; featuring over 1400 channels of the latest films, TV shows, music and games on individual TV screens in each seats, in every class.

Emirates was the first airline in the world to introduce a personal entertainment system on a commercial aircraft with the introduction seat-back screens in every seat 1992. All three classes of Emirates flights feature a personal in-flight entertainment system.

Travel / INTERVIEW: “I Used To Run Out Of The House To Watch Planes Fly” – Nigeria’s Youn by igelomo(m): 7:23am On Apr 27, 2013
Twenty-year-old Favour Nnaemeka Odozor was penultimate Saturday in South Africa, awarded license as a commercial pilot, making him the youngest in South Africa and Nigeria commercial pilot. He speaks on his journey to becoming a pilot and what next.

Weekly Trust: How do you feel being the youngest commercial pilot in Nigeria and South Africa?
Favour Odozor: It is not a feeling out of the ordinary; it was that of a childhood dream of being a commercial pilot which finally came through and at the age of 20. That I was able to achieve this in countries advanced in aviation like Nigeria and South Africa, is equally rewarding. But I know there are many younger ones out there who do have the wherewithal to achieve this even while younger than I am now.
Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am, was born in Umuoma Amucha in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State by Mr and Mrs Odozor. I attended Adimery nursery/primary Oguta, Imo state. I had my secondary education in Lagos and Enugu before proceeding to Caritas University, Enugu State where I enrolled for Computer Science and Information Technology. I deferred this in my second year to go to South Africa’s prestigious Afrika Union Aviation Academy to undergo training as a commercial pilot. This I have completed within a good time and currently licensed on a multi engine airplane with instrument rating.

Politics / Amaechi Stranded In Akure As Jonathan Grounds Governor’s Bombardier Jet by igelomo(m): 8:50pm On Apr 26, 2013
The ongoing ‘ cold war’ between President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State took a new dimension on Friday as Aviation Agencies at the Akure Airport, Ondo State stopped the Governor’s aircraft from flying shortly after he returned from the burial of the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Olufunmilayo Olayinka, alongside his aides.

It was gathered that officials of the National Airspace Management Authority refused to give clearance to the Governor’s jet to take off, leaving him and his aides stranded for hours.

As at the time of filling this report, we could not confirm whether the Governor and his aides were later allowed to take off from the airport or not
