One Murtala Mode has been arrested by the Sokoto State police, following the confession of some of his students that he has serially raped them at their Almajiri school in Arkilla.

The victims, aged between 4 and 15, also said the teacher collects money from some external homosexual clients and forces them to submit themselves to sexual acts.

However, Mr Mode admitted to having carnal knowledge of only three minors in the school, but six of the pupils said he had forceful sexual intercourse with them. In his statement to the police, the suspect said God destined the act to happen.

The six victims are now under the custody of Save The Child Initiative Sokoto, while Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria, MULAN, Sokoto branch provides food for them.

Security guard with the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Cletus Williams, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his colleague, Okoro John, while on night duty on the school’s premises.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday, said Williams allegedly used a knife to slit John’s throat and cut off one of his wrists.

He stated that the personnel of the command, in conjunction with the chief security officer of the institution, arrested Williams, adding that he would be charged to court for murder.

Elkana said, “On May 24, 2019, around 7am, personnel of the Shagamu Road Police Station, in collaboration with the Chief Security Officer of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, arrested one Cletus Williams, a security guard with the polytechnic, for killing his colleague, Okoro John, while they were on night duty. The suspect used a sharp knife to slit the throat of the victim and also chopped off his right wrist.

“Homicide detectives from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, are investigating the case to ascertain the motive behind the killing. The knife used for the murder has been recovered. The suspect will soon be charged to court for murder.”

The personnel of the command also arrested eight suspected traffic robbers for allegedly dispossessing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.

The suspects are Ayomide Ayobami, Taye Onafowokan, Bamidele Ogunbanjo, one Gabazine and four others, whose names have not been disclosed.

Elkana said the surveillance patrol strategy introduced by the state Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’azu, targeted at tackling the menace of traffic robbery in the state, arrested the suspects.

He stated, “On May 24, 2019, around 5.30am, the surveillance patrol team from the Ketu Police Station foiled a robbery attempt at the Kosofe bus stop. The leader of the gang, popularly known as Gabazine, and two other members of the gang were arrested. One Samsung phone snatched from a victim was recovered and handed over to the owner.

“On May 25, 2019, the same surveillance team on undercover operation arrested two traffic robbery suspects attempting to rob some unsuspecting road users. Two jack knives and a toy pistol were recovered from them.

“On the same date, around 12.05am, the surveillance patrol team deployed in the Ketu bus stop arrested two traffic robbery suspects, Ayomide Ayobami and Taye Onafowokan, both living at Agboyi-Ketu. One pistol with live ammunition and a jackknife were recovered from them.

“The patrol team attached to the Festac Police Station arrested one Bamidele Ogunbanjo, 30, of the Prayer Estate, Amuwo Odofin. One locally-made pistol with one live ammunition was recovered from him. Investigation is ongoing and all the suspects will be charged to court.”

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that a commercial motorcyclist, Enifeh Omomo, committed suicide after killing his wife, Faith, and six-year-old son, Glorious, in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The PPRO, who said Omomo’s corpse was found dangling from a rope that was tied to a ceiling fan, stated that the corpses of the motorcyclist, his wife and son were found in their apartment.

He added that the corpses had been deposited in the Ikorodu General Hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

Elkana said, “On May 24, 2019, around 8am, the Ikorodu Police Station received a distress call that one Enifeh Omomo, 42, of No 12 Eruga Street, Aga, Ikorodu, allegedly killed his wife, Faith Omomo, 38, and his six-year-old son, Glorious Omomo, and thereafter committed suicide in his one-room apartment.

“When homicide detectives visited the scene, the corpse of the suspect was found hanging on a rope tied to the ceiling fan, while the corpses of his wife and son were found on the floor. The bodies of the deceased persons were evacuated to the general hospital for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.”

Four suspected cultists have been arrested for allegedly killing a 26-year-old man, Saibu Azeez, at a birthday party in the Abule Lemode area of Ijoko in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The suspects, Opeyemi Olalekan, Azeez Ologundudu, Emmanuel Omoboriowo and Anigilaje Babatunde, were arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command attached to the Agbado Divisional Headquarters.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement he issued in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Oyeyemi alleged that the suspects were notorious cultists and were arrested following a distress call received by the police at the Agbado Divisional Headquarters.

According to him, the incident happened when the suspects invaded the venue of a birthday party organised by one Oluwatoye Ogun, a resident of No. 34 Oyedele Close, Abule Lemode, on May 24, 2019.

Oyeyemi alleged that the suspected cultists, armed with broken bottles, stormed the venue of the party around 2am and unleashed terror on those who attended.

He said, “The hoodlums stabbed the father of the celebrant on the head before they got hold of one Saibu Azeez and stabbed him in the stomach.

“Having received a distress call, the DPO, Agbado Division, CSP Aloko Amodu, led his patrol team to the scene, where four members of the dreaded group were arrested.”

The PPRO explained that two persons, including the father of the person celebrating the birthday, were taken to a nearby hospital following the injuries they sustained during the attack.

Oyeyemi said Azeez died while receiving treatment.

According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was likely to be a member of a rival cult and his assailants came on a possible reprisal.

The police spokesperson added, “The arrested suspects have all confessed to being members of a rival cult.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue for post-mortem examination.”

He said the Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

Oyeyemi added that the CP reiterated his earlier stance against cultism and vowed not to rest until the menace was completely stamped out of the state.

Veteran actress, Tola Oladokun, better known as Ika Lomo Ejo, has opened up on why she would never be caught playing a romantic role in any movie. In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said her husband disliked seeing her in a bedroom scene with a man.

“When I started building my career in the movie industry; even though, my husband didn’t want me to take many scenes, my boss always insisted that I should. But when it got to a point, some people began to spread rumours about me. They told my husband that actors always sleep with each other on set.

“Due to these speculations, he gave me very strict rules to abide by anytime I had to go on set. At some point, he said I had to choose between my career and my home. I chose my home for peace to reign but I still acted in a few films only because I abided by all the rules he set for the sake of peace,” she said.

The actress noted that when the rumour mongers would not stop spreading false news about her to her husband, he told her to quit acting.

“Subsequently, when the negative gossips about me increased he said I shouldn’t act again but I asked our family members to help me beg him. My husband dotes on me a lot and he tells everyone who cares to listen that he loves me very much. Some people have this notion that actors don’t have lasting marriages but despite the issues I had in my marriage, I endured. I am a very decent woman; I don’t even keep too many friends because of my husband’s rules.

“I don’t feature in romantic movies because anytime my husband sees me in a bedroom scene, he is always angry. There was a time I acted as a wife in a movie, and he complained about how I walked in front of an actor; he wasn’t happy about it. They hardly cast me for such roles and even if they do, the man will not touch me on the bed at all,” she said.

Oladokun also mentioned the reason why some entertainers don’t have a good home, saying, “The reason why some actresses don’t have stable homes is because as entertainers, there is every tendency for people to say negative things about us to our spouses due to the nature of the job. Some women don’t know how to endure when there are such accusations; they allow the issue to get the better part of them and then end up misbehaving.

“However, there are some women who come into the industry with the aim of having an affair with an actor they had admired from afar; so those types of people usually don’t have a direction as regards their career. There are different types of people in the industry. Even if a couple is in the movie industry together, if they don’t manage their home, it would not last,” she added.

Oladokun, who is known for crying effortlessly in movies, revealed that she had to deal with envy and strife in the early years of her career.

“One of my first major roles in the industry had to do with crying. On the set of that movie, the director said he wanted to get water to fake the tears but I told him there was no need. I cried so well in that movie and it looked real. Right from when I was a young child, I have always loved acting so crying in a movie comes naturally for me. Since then, anytime a role has to do with shedding tears, they always give it to me. I don’t even know how or where the tears come from, it just flows. I thank God for that all the time,” she said.

Recalling some of her past struggles in life before she became a popular actress, Oladokun said, “I used to sell clothes before I started acting in 1983. I indicated my interest in arts and I was accepted by the veteran, Deji Aderemi, also known as Olofa Ina in Ibadan, Oyo State. I tried combining my business with acting. But at the time, I was envied by some of my peers then because I knew how to read and write; those were some of the challenges I faced. They tried to plot against me, but my boss, Olofa Ina was always on my side.

“Due to jealousy, I didn’t have many of them in my circle as friends; but my boss always had my back and that was how I was able to get movie roles. It is very sad that the government does not have time for us because if they did, piracy would have been curbed as it is really affecting us,” she said.
