CelebritiesLet’s Not Pretend We Don’t Have Problems In Nollywood – Kevin Ikeduba by iGist(op): 5:17am On Dec 22, 2018
Nollywood actor, Kevin Ikeduba, recently shared a video where he spoke passionately about the movie industry in Nigeria.

In the video, he said, “I laugh anytime people say social media is full of people living fake lives because the level of fake lives on social media is nothing compared to what exists in the movie industry. If they think I am one of them, it is their opinion. Why can’t we help one another? Change your ways, there is no love in Nollywood.”

His words were misconceived by some people, as they thought he was referring to the lifestyles of some of his colleagues in the industry. However, in an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, Ikeduba said his message was not directed at any of his colleagues or individuals but at the structure of the industry itself.

“We need to have one body, it may seem difficult because of the different tribes but it can still work. That is why Nigeria is still standing as a country because we are united despite our diversity. If it can happen in Nigeria, then it is possible in Nollywood. If we go to the government as one body, then the government will listen to us. Instead of going in different groups and backstabbing one another,” he said.

The actor stated that he was not the type of person to rant on social media, adding that he was motivated to speak up because of the happenings in the movie industry.

“I am not one who will normally rant on social media; I hold no grudge against any of my colleagues. I was motivated to use the content of my video because I just thought about the happenings in Nollywood. The whole ‘fake life’ issue I talked about has nothing to do with individuals; everyone has the right to live their lives the way they choose to. I was coming from the angle of the industry itself. If we were united and had a strong organisation, it would be better for us. I am bothered about the structure, some people may think it won’t work, but I believe that if it can work for Nigeria, then it can work for Nollywood. It was just my opinion; I didn’t consult anyone before making the video.

“I have a very good career as I am one of the popular actors in Nigeria. The statement I made was not directed at anyone. If anyone thinks I am fake; it is their opinion, it is impossible to satisfy everybody. I was trying to pass a message across to everyone in Nollywood, including me. The information I was trying to pass across was that the segregation in Nollywood was too much. For example, in the US; artistes are united. Their body can write to the government to make a request. Since they are united, the government will listen to them.

“But here in Nigeria, if we need support from the government, and the artistes go in different groups, the government won’t take us seriously. The segregation is there, they see some people as those who their movies do well in the cinema and others as those who make home videos. When actors were born, they were not born with the inscription ‘cinema’, written on their foreheads, we are all actors. We need to be united. Togetherness will take us forward; let’s not pretend that we don’t have problems when we do.

“No one has attacked me; if anyone attacks me, it means the person thinks I am referring to them. No one has attacked me or said anything bad to me. If I have a problem with anyone, I will approach the person and sort things out,” he said.

CelebritiesI Respect Wizkid, Davido, I’m Not Threatened By Them – Pablo Vicky D by iGist(op): 5:10am On Dec 22, 2018
Singer, Pablo Vicky D, has said that he respects popular singers, Wizkid and Davido, but does not feel threatened by them.

Many people may consider the statement as being cocky, but the singer told Saturday Beats that he was just being optimistic about his future because of his belief in his talent. The singer said he was sure that his name and songs would be popular for many years to come.

The entertainer, who recently released the video of his single ‘Gimme Dat’, told Saturday Beats that that music means everything to him.

“Music is my life and I would not trade it for anything. I have always been a music lover and I discovered that I could make my own music when I was16 years old. That was how it all started for me,” he said.

Fondly referred to as PVD, the singer noted that although he draws inspiration from the likes of Wizkid and Davido, artistes who he respects, he does not see them as a threat.

He said, “Well, I admire Wizkid and Davido. I’m inspired by their success story and the fact that they keep pushing the African sound to the world, I respect them both for that; however, I am not threatened by them.”

PVD is currently signed on as a recording artiste under HHG Records.

CelebritiesCharly Boy: I Married 4 Times, 3 Times For The Wrong Reasons by iGist(op): 5:02am On Dec 22, 2018
Entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly called Charly Boy, made the news recently when he announced that he was going to divorce his wife and marry her the next day. The Area Fada actually acted true to his words as a marriage ceremony was held in honour of him and his wife of 40 years, Lady Diane.

Speaking to Saturday Beats about the secret of his marriage of 40 years, Charly Boy noted that his ability to build a healthy friendship with his wife had kept his home together.

“Marriage is a game of management and perseverance that young people find difficult to conform to. Life comes with its own problems; one can never know what is around the corner. Even though a couple is compatible, there will still be some issues they don’t agree on.

Friendship is what has kept my marriage peaceful.

“When someone is your friend; it will be easy to open up to such a person. To attain that kind of friendship, there has to be mutual respect between the two people. Addressing issues with openness makes life easy, every problem has a solution. I don’t think some young people are willing to make all these sacrifices. They are always in hurry, they don’t think about the future.

Oputa, who has been in three failed marriages, said he married the women he was involved with in those marriages for the wrong reasons.

“I won’t add the conditions of my past marriages to my experience because my case is a little different. I have always seen my father and mother together in love even though they quarrelled and argued overtime. This made a big impression on me, I admired them. I loved those kinds of things.

“I was not ready for marriage when my first marriage took place. My mother forced me to get married. I was busy impregnating people instead of reading my books, so my mother made sure I got married to curb my excesses as a teenager.

“I was 19, and my mother brought her to me. The second one was when I was in my 20s, I wasn’t even ready as well, it was just to get myself settled in the US, but I later realised that the US wasn’t a place I could settle in. The marriage lasted for about three years, and I cut my stay in the US short because I experienced racism. I was almost killed because of the colour of my skin. Those things made me hate America; my uncles never believed I would return to Nigeria. After the second marriage failed, I married the third woman in America for the wrong reason,” he told Saturday Beats.

The entertainer said that he never knew he would be married to his current wife and he told Saturday Beats the details of his love story.

“This is my fourth marriage; I wasn’t even expecting to marry my wife. She came one day after we had been dating for a while and told me that if I didn’t marry her, she would leave me. I thought it was going to end like the others. We got married shortly after that with only one witness present at the registry.

“That was all that we did; there was no party at all and we are still together after 40 years. My parents didn’t even want me to marry someone who didn’t come from Nigeria. I was just against too many battles. I decided that my marriage must work. We have learnt how to manage ourselves through any kind of stormy weather. Marriage is not easy; I can’t say I am living in paradise because I would be lying.

“The essence of a true marriage is not about a flamboyant wedding. My father taught me the art of a simple life, I am happier that way. I used a tricycle to renew my vows because I am a simple person. Expensive things don’t define me, money doesn’t move me, and I don’t show off. I was implying that I wanted to renew my vows on December 15; some people didn’t get the joke. I was not trying to say I would actually divorce my wife and remarry someone else, I simply meant I wanted to renew my vows,” he added.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday said it had in its custody three suspected Advance Fee fraudsters, otherwise known as Yahoo Boys arrested in Ilesha, Osun.

The Acting Head, Media and Publicity of the commission, Mr Tony Orilade, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

He said that the suspects were handed to the commission’s personnel in Ibadan, Oyo state, by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for further investigation.

Orilade said that the suspects, who were between the ages of 22 years and 29 years were Ebenezer Oluwafemi, Kolade Sogo and Oluwagbenga Ejikunke.

He said that they were arrested on Tuesday following series of intelligence gathered by the security operatives.

“Preliminary investigations further revealed that the suspects allegedly got involved in different romance scam posing as female foreigners to fleece unsuspecting victims on the social media.

“At the point of arrest, varied fetish materials, two laptops and five different brands of cell phones were recovered from them.

“Several documents containing false pretences were also recovered from the suspects,” he said.

The statement said that the Head, Ibadan Office of the commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said the handing over of the suspects had brought the number of Advance Fee fraudsters arrested in Ibadan to 40 in a couple of weeks.

“The zone is no longer a hiding place for the fraudsters.

“Investigation is still ongoing and the suspects will soon be charged to court,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Selina Mbendani (53) from Onderstepoort had a rude awakening after her ex boyfriend burnt down her house as vengeance for being dumped.

She said she broke up with him because he was a thug, but he returned and asked her to let him back into her life, warning her that he would kill her if she did not.

“I took the threat lightly,” she said.

Later that same day, however, Selina and the other tenants were woken up by clouds of smoke.

“The whole house was on fire. We all managed to escape unharmed.”

The house tenants tried to put out the fire but did not have enough water to slow the overpowering blaze.

“We could do nothing but look at all our belongings burning to ashes.”

Selina said her neighbours saw a man throwing a petrol bomb.

“I know it was him, because he threatened me with his own mouth.

“He said he was going to burn me in this house. I lost everything. I feel devastated and hopeless. I feel like killing myself,” she said.

Police captain Rebecca Phatlane said a case of arson was opened.
