The police have arraigned two traffic wardens, Idoko Sunday and Katdel Dabit, before a Nyanya Magistrates’ Court, for complicity in the death of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer, Ogah Jumbo.

The two policemen were remanded in the Kuje Prisons pending the next adjournment of the case.

The police stated that their arraignment was sequel to the outcome of an investigation into the case of alleged discreditable conduct and unlawful exercise of authority reported against them on March 20, 2019, adding that they were earlier subjected to an orderly room trial and dismissed.

Jumbo had died during a violent confrontation with the traffic wardens, who allegedly beat him with batons and also dragged him on the ground to their station on March 19, 2019.

He passed away shortly after the incident.

The Force spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said, “Investigations positively indicted them for assault and excessive use of force on the deceased after his arrest.

“Forensic analysis by a pathologist, as seen in the autopsy report, clearly traced the cause of death to injuries inflicted on the deceased during his encounter with the traffic wardens.”

The statement further said the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, regretted the incident and admonished the public not to lose faith in the Force, pledging that under his watch, “no form of impunity or man’s inhumanity to man will go unpunished.”

He warned that like the indicted traffic wardens, any police officer found wanting for unlawful use of force and other sundry offences, would be publicly shamed and brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others.

Meanwhile, the detectives from the IGP Intelligence Response Unit and other operatives attached to Operation Puff Adder have arrested one Mallam Salisu Abubakar, 48, a native of Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Abubakar, a self-confessed spiritual father of the kidnappers terrorising Abuja-Kaduna Expressway and other parts of North-West/North-Central states was nabbed on Tuesday at his hideout in a forest at Galadimawa village, Kaduna State.

The police said the suspect had been implicated for aiding and abetting the commission of several high profile armed robbery and kidnapping operations.

Similarly, the operatives also arrested one Godwin Ige a.k.a White, a native of Akoko-Edo LGA of Edo State, the fourth member of the gang responsible for the kidnap of a Channels Tv reporter, Mr Friday Okeregbe.

The operatives recovered from the 28-year-old one Berretta pistol, one locally-made pistol, 11 live ammunition, two live cartridges and a Honda Accord car with number plate, KWL 420 GU, with which the victim was kidnapped on March 22.

It came as a shock when a Lagos-based broadcaster, Benny Ark, alleged that Kizz Daniel’s hit song, Fvck You, was a dig at Kedike singer, Chidinma.

Although neither Chidinma nor Kizz Daniel confirmed the story, it was alleged that the two musicians were in a romantic relationship last year.

Benny Ark had said on air that Kizz Daniel made the song for Chidinma, adding that she was notorious for ‘hopping’ around in the music industry. The OAP later tendered an apology after Chidinma’s lawyers threatened to take legal action against him.

However, Chidinma’s manager, Rasheed Ogunsanwo, said she didn’t take the statement seriously. He said, “When she heard the news, Chidinma was just laughing. Left to her, she would not have said a word or written a letter to the radio station or the OAP. It was her management that decided to take the issue up because it was blatant rubbish. If the story was true, Chidinma would have lost her cool.

“Chidinma is an artiste who doesn’t interfere in public issues; she just focuses on her music. It was annoying when an OAP came out to say what he wasn’t sure of. And he said it with so much confidence; that pissed everyone off.

“On Tuesday, we wrote to the management of the radio station. We asked them to tell us where they got the information from. I think he (Benny Ark) has tendered an apology. But despite the apology, we would still look at the situation and decide if we should take the matter up legally. It was obvious the OAP was lying.”

Budding singer, model and photographer, Naomi Branch, obviously knows what she wants and she is not afraid to go after it with tenacity and focus. However, it hasn’t been a bed of roses as the prolific entertainer once escaped being raped in the course of advancing her career.

Sharing the experience with Sunday Scoop, Branch said, “The major challenges I face in my career are funding and sexual harassment from men, especially those who you approach for help. It’s very difficult, especially for young, beautiful up-and-coming acts like me. A case in point was when a radio presenter and comedian tried to rape me because I was looking for a job. I was able to escape from his grip and reported him to the police. He was arrested but later released because his family is rich and influential. There are many cases like that and the only way to make it is if you can get a genuine sponsor.”

Describing her style of music as pop and afro highlife, Branch lists Yemi Alade as one of her role models. The singer also stated that she was presently working on the video for her new song, Ayo, which is enjoying favourable airplay at the moment. “The song is about me thanking God for all He has done for me in just a short time of deciding to embrace a professional music career. God has been so gracious and I just want to use the music to thank Him for His divine help,” she added.
