GRRM forged ASOIF with a mix of myths, legends and history. Take for now, the brotherhood has gone rouge taking the jihad part (killing septons and their followers). Then in King's Landing the throne is now under the hands of the High Sparrow and his priests ( Rome and Catholic).

Assuming Arthur Dayne was at the trident Rob Baratheon wouldn't have been king.

I hope Bran will travel to the battle of trident to show us Raegher and Robert's fight.
