IDF surround Gaza's biggest hospital 'where Hamas hides its underground HQ' as the terror group says civilians were hit by Israeli strike on the medical centre overnight.
Overnight, Hamas-run local authorities accused the IDF of shelling areas around hospitals in the north of the coastal strip, including Al-Shifa, as well as the Rantisi children's hospital and the Indonesian hospital.
Indonesia's foreign ministry has also reported explosions from around the Indonesian hospital while another, Al Quds Hospital, is reported to be surrounded by tanks. A person inside the hospital told the BBC of hearing 'clashes and explosions'.
The IDF has denied that it had targeted the Indonesian hospital, saying: 'The IDF did not target the hospital. The IDF does not target civilians and operates in accordance with international law.'
Officials in Gaza said today strikes on Al-Shifa hospital had killed 13 people.
'Thirteen martyrs and dozens wounded in an Israeli strike on Al-Shifa compound today' in central Gaza City, a government statement said, giving a toll AFP news agency said it was not immediately able to independently verify.
Shocking footage from Al-Shifa hospital's courtyard overnight appeared to show one of the strikes, although it was impossible to verify its origin from the footage. Another clip also showed the bloody aftermath of another attack this morning.
Amid uncertainty of which side was behind the strikes, Israel continued to rain down missiles on other parts of Gaza. Pictures looking into the strip from outside showed huge plumes of smoke and dirt being blasted hundreds of feet into the air.
Palestinian officials say that more than 10,800 people have been killed in Gaza since Israel launched its bombardment of the territory in retaliation for Hamas's October 7 attack, which saw 1,400 killed in the Jewish state and 240 taken hostage.

ISRAEL is claiming to have Hamas’ leader surrounded in a bunker after taking control of one of the terror group’s military strongholds today.
IDF forces have dubbed Yahya Sinwar, known as “Gaza’s Bin Laden”, a dead man, as they close in around Gaza City.
Israel’s defence minister Yoav Gallant said Hamas’s leader in Gaza was “hiding in his bunker … without contact with his associates”.
He did not disclose the terror leader’s exact location.
IDF forces are rapidly closing in on Gaza as fighter jets today struck a terror cell in the enclave’s north before sending in soldiers on foot.
It claimed a number of anti-tank missiles, launchers, other weapons and “various intelligence materials” were uncovered inside.
At least ten Hamas militants were also killed in the blast.
The IDF also said an aircraft also struck several Hamas militants who had barricaded themselves in a building near the al-Quds Hospital.
Gallant claimed Israeli troops are storming the terror group’s strongholds “from all directions, in perfect co-ordination with maritime and aerial forces.”
Footage shows gun-wielding Israeli troops moving into the “terror nest” and searching buildings.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Sinwar, 61, as acting like a “little Hitler in a bunker,” as he was suspected of hiding in a Hamas control centre beneath a Gaza Strip hospital.
And Israel Defence Forces spokesman Lt Col Richard Hecht compared him to al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden for his role in the Hamas atrocities.
Lt Col Hecht said: “Yahya Sinwar is the face of evil. He is the mastermind behind this, like Bin Laden was [with the 9/11 US attacks].”
The Israelis previously urged Hamas fighters in Gaza to kill or hand over the bogeyman themselves as this would “hasten the end to the war”.
The IDF said on Tuesday: “Over the past day, IDF troops secured a military stronghold belonging to the Hamas terrorist organisation in the northern Gaza Strip.
“In coordination with soldiers on the ground, an IDF fighter jet struck a cell of approximately 10 terrorists.
“Following this, IDF ground troops identified an anti-tank missile cell operating in their vicinity.
“The troops directed an IDF aircraft that struck the terrorist cell.”
An Israeli minister told Sky news that over 3,000 Hamas fighters have been killed in Gaza.
It comes as pictures show Israeli forces using bulldozers to clear our mines and explosives and also demolish buildings as they push through the Hamas “terror nest”.
Their arsenal includes the D9R armoured bulldozer – nicknamed Doobi or “Teddy Bear” – that can deflect rockets and tackle a labyrinth of tunnels and sniper positions.
With 15 tonnes of added armour and a reinforced blade, the beast is almost impenetrable to guns or explosives.
The founder of Hamas’s military wing and its intelligence service, Sinwar has been the leader of the terror group in Gaza since 2017.

A senior officer in the Southern Command told the outlet: “Maybe at first they were able to harass us, sting us by firing from tunnel exits, but after we established control of the areas, the engineering operation started.”
He added: “We are going to collapse the entrances and the tunnels on them. It will become a death zone. They made a mistake, they chose to be in a place they could not escape from. They will die in the tunnels.”
The report suggested that Israeli forces had already destroyed 100 tunnels not including those taken out in air strikes since the beginning of the ground operation.
Since the start of the war on October 7, more than 9,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry there.

It comes after footage showed tanks and troops ploughing into Gaza and wiping out 600 terror targets in 24 hours.
Israel said today that troops attacked Hamas gunmen inside Gaza's vast tunnel network - where the terror group is believed to be hiding hostages.
The tunnels are a key objective for Tel Aviv as it expands ground operations inside Gaza to wipe out Hamas following the gun rampage three weeks ago that killed over 1,400 Israelis.
Speaking about the "second stage" of war, former British military commander Colonel Richard Kemp said that Israel has made "significant progress".
He told The Sun: "I think the IDF moved into the Gaza strip in significant military strength, with tanks, infantry engineers supported by artillery attack, helicopters and UAVs.
"And they're making quite significant progress, there have been reports today that they have destroyed a great deal of the Hamas infrastructure inside Gaza, killed around four senior Hamas leaders.
"As far as I'm aware, there have been either none or very limited Israeli casualties, but that hasn't yet been confirmed. So I think it's so far progressing pretty well."
Israel made use of the long-range Arrow defense system for the first time as it intercepted a surface-to-surface missile near the city of Eilat, launched from the "Red Sea area."
The IDF said that Arrow intercepted the missile "at the most appropriate operational time and location."
Later Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen issued a video statement claiming to have fired ballistic missiles and drones at Israel, before threatening to carry out more strikes.
A Houthi military statement aired on the rebels' Al-Masirah TV said: "The Yemeni Armed Forces... confirm they will continue to carry out qualitative strikes with missiles and drones until the Israeli aggression stops."
Israeli National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi branded the attack "intolerable" in a televised briefing before adding there was "no deal in sight" for the release of hostages held in Gaza.
The IDF said it killed Hamas fighters in ground attacks and air strikes and hit targets including anti-tank missile and rocket launch posts as well as military compounds inside underground tunnels.
It said in an update: "During the expanded ground operations, numerous Hamas terrorists have been killed; Hundreds of additional military targets were struck.
"Over the last day, combined IDF combat forces struck approximately 300 targets."
It added that Hamas responded with machine gun fire and anti-tank missiles.
Israel said: "The soldiers killed terrorists and directed air forces to real-time strikes on targets and terror infrastructure."
The Bible is clear, and it is consistent: one person cannot die for the sins of another. In other words, the sins committed by one person cannot be wiped out by the punishment given to another. In Exodus 32:30-35, Moses asks Gd to punish him for the sin committed by the people in regards to the Golden Calf. Gd tells Moses that the person who committed the sin is the one who must receive the punishment. Then, in Deuteronomy 24:16, Gd simply states this as a basic principle, ‘Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.’ This concept is repeated in the Prophets, in Ezekiel 18: ‘The soul that sinneth, it shall die… the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.’ The prophet Jeremiah looks to the day when the mistaken belief that one man’s death atones for another man’s sins shall no longer be held by anyone: in Jeremiah 31:29-30, the prophet says: ‘In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.’
A MORE COMPLETE EXPLANATION… The Christian understanding is that Jesus, the one they believe to be the messiah, died for the sins of all humanity. In this view, the messiah is supposed to be the blood sacrifice necessary for the forgiveness of sin; in other words, a human sacrifice. However, not only is this concept of the messiah not found in our Bible, but we are also taught quite clearly and consistently that no one can die for the sins of another, that one person’s guilt cannot be forgiven because of another person’s death. In Exodus 32:30-35, Moses tries to offer himself as an atonement for the sins of the People, by being written ‘out of Thy book which Thou has written.’ To be written out of Gd’s book means to be written out of the Book of Life; therefore Moses is asking to die for the sins of the People. Gd’s response is that it does not work that way, each man dies for his own sin:
And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the Etrnl; perhaps I shall make an atonement for your sin. And Moses returned unto the Etrnl, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin…and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. And the Etrnl said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them. And the Etrnl plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made. [Exodus 32:30-35]
Please note that the text tells us that the one who sins is the one who receives the punishment, and no one else. The point is made again in Deuteronomy 24:16, where it explicitly says that no one can die for the sins of another:
The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the father. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin. [Deuteronomy 24:16]
The whole of Chapter 18 of the Book of Ezekiel expands upon and clarifies this principle. Furthermore, this chapter teaches that all we have to do to gain Gd’s forgiveness is to stop doing the Bad and start doing the Good. Nowhere does it say that we must have a blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. Please see Essay #2, ‘A blood sacrifice is not required for forgiveness of sins.’
The word of the Etrnl came unto me again, saying, What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Etrnl Gd: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. [Ezekiel 18:1-4; 20-24; 26-27]
Again, this same principle is stated in the Book of Jeremiah. In the 31st chapter, Gd tells of a time in the future when no one will continue to believe in such a thing.
In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge. [Jeremiah 31:29-30]
This is nothing but a restatement and elaboration on Deuteronomy 24:16: ‘Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.’ The simple and literal meaning of the biblical text needs no interpretation. It is clear and it is consistent:
No one can die to atone for the sins of another.
This is why Jews do not believe there was any redemptive power at all in Jesus’ death. Such a belief is unbiblical; it has no basis in the sacred text and no justification in Jewish theology. This doctrine can be seen as an invention for the sake of post-event rationalization, in other words, to give meaning and purpose to the crucifixion after the fact.
Some Christians may choose to interpret other verses in the Bible to indicate the opposite, that one CAN die for the sins of another. If that were the case, this would mean that Gd changed His mind, or that He did not mean what He said in Deuteronomy 24:16: ‘Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.’
But Gd does not change either His mind or His nature, as we read in Malachi 3:6, For I am the Etrnl, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
In a newer technique, some Christians are now quoting rabbinic writings to make it seem as if the rabbis accepted this concept of vicarious atonement. However, even if several respected rabbis did agree with this idea, we must still go by what the Bible states, and the Bible states, in no uncertain terms, ‘Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.’

YEVGENY Prigozhin's brutal Wagner Group could be taken over by one of his killer cronies after he was presumed dead in a fiery plane crash.
Rumoured to be next in line is Wagner commander Anton Yelizarov, 42, who has hailed the mercenary group as "knights" and appears to back the group against Vladimir Putin.
Expert Samantha de Bendern told The Sun Yelizarov's name has been floating around in various Telegram groups in the chaos after yesterday's plane crash as a potential new leader for the group.
She explained: "There's a new guy, Yelizarov who's the only surviving leader of Wagner."
Known by his call name "Lotus", Yelizarov is believed to have been involved in the group's movements in Belarus and commanded Wagner during the bloodiest battle of the war in Ukraine.
Yelizarov led the meat-grinder offensive in Soledar, which killed scores of Ukrainian and Russian soldiers during the five month battle - and was later anointed as the "conqueror of Soledar" by Prigozhin.
Despite beginning his military career in the Russian Armed Forces, Yelizarov appears to have turned against Putin and dedicated himself to the mercenary group, which consists of some of Russia's most dangerous prisoners.
The Wagner figurehead is thought to have fierce loyalty to Prigozhin, rather than Putin.
In an interview with Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone earlier this year, Yelizarov spoke of his allegiance to the mercenary group.
He said: "PMC "Wagner" is not just a structure that unites people, it is an ideology.
"Have you heard the story about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table? So, all the commanders of the Wagner PMC are knights, and our leader is the Director.
"We cannot be divided, all decisions are made jointly, at the council of commanders. Thus, a structure devoid of a corruption component has been created."
He's been photographed next to Prigozhin many times, and prior to his death, Prigozhin defended Yelizarov's comments about Russia's invasion into Crimea beginning in 2014.
Yelizarov is thought to have joined the group around 2016, after being convicted of fraud, according to Molfar, an information analyst company.
He took part in military actions in Syria, before working in the Central African Republic and commanding a unit in Libya - where illegal landmines were planted by Wagner troops.
"The Lotus" has also been widely sanctioned by Ukraine, France, the European Union, Japan, Belgium, New Zealand and Switzerland.
The Wagner commander is known to have a wife, Alexandra Yelizarova and a daughter, Arina Yelizarova.
It remains unclear who is to head Wagner following the plane crash yesterday, but de Bendern said one thing is clear.
She explained: "I think we will see unrest in the next few days, that will be very interesting. The next few days will be interesting and reveal a lot.
"Right now, I have no idea of what could happen. But I do not think that things are going to be calm in Russia."
The foreign ministers of Burkina Faso and Mali, Olivia Rouamba and Abdoulaye Diop, visited Niamey on Thursday, where they were received by Niger’s new ruler General Abdourahamane Tiani.
They welcomed the signing of orders authorising the armies of Burkina Faso and Mali “to intervene on Niger territory in the event of aggression”, said a statement read out by the deputy secretary general of Niger’s foreign ministry.

Aug 22 (Reuters) - Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin posted his first video address since leading a short-lived mutiny in late June, appearing in a social media clip which he suggested was shot in Africa.
In the video, posted on Telegram channels affiliated with the Wagner group on Monday, Prigozhin speaks of making Russia greater on all continents and Africa more free. It is likely to exacerbate Western fears that Wagner could expand its African operations after a coup in Niger that has taken on anti-Western overtones.
Prigozhin is seen standing in a desert area in camouflage with a rifle in his hands. In the distance are armed men and a pickup truck.
Reuters was not able to geolocate or verify the date of the video. Prigozhin's comments and some posts in the pro-Wagner channels suggested it was filmed in Africa.
"The temperature is +50 - everything as we like. The Wagner PMC (private military company) makes Russia even greater on all continents, and Africa - more free," Prigozhin says in the video.
"Justice and happiness - for the African people, we're making life a nightmare for ISIS and al Qaeda and other bandits," he says.
He then says Wagner is recruiting people and the group "will fulfil the tasks that were set". The video is accompanied by a telephone number for those who want to join the group.
Wagner is already present in Niger's neighbour Mali, where its fighters were hired in 2021 by a military junta which has ordered out French troops and U.N. peacekeepers who had been helping the Malian army battle Islamist insurgents for a decade.
U.N. sanctions monitors alleged in a report in August that Malian troops and their Russian partners were using violence against women and other grave human rights abuses to spread terror.
Wagner and Mali have denied this, as well as accusations that they executed at least 500 people in a village last year.
In Niger, where U.S., French, German and Italian troops are stationed as part of international efforts to contain the Islamists, a junta that seized power on July 26 has been using anti-French rhetoric in its broadcasts. Mali's military government has given support to Niger's coup leaders.
Pro-coup demonstrators in Niamey have waved Russian flags, adding to Western countries' fears that Niger could follow Mali's lead and replace their troops with Wagner fighters.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for a return to constitutional order in Niger, while Prigozhin has welcomed the coup.
Prigozhin's video appeared on the eve of a BRICS summit in South Africa where efforts by some members to strengthen and possibly expand the bloc as a counterweight to the West are on the agenda. Putin will take part virtually, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is expected in person.
The future of Wagner and Prigozhin has been unclear since he led a short mutiny against the Russian defence establishment in late June and the Kremlin said he and some of his fighters - who have fought in some of the fiercest battles of the Ukraine war - would leave for Belarus.
Since the mutiny, some Wagner fighters have moved to Belarus and started training the army there. In comments published in late July, Prigozhin also said Wagner was ready to further increase its presence in Africa.
As well as Mali, Wagner is active in Central African Republic and Libya. Western nations say it is also present in Sudan, though it denies this. (Reporting by Maxim Rodionov and Estelle Shirbon; Editing by Hugh Lawson and Angus MacSwan)
