A coalition of 11 Civil Society Organisations, CSOs,has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to drop one of the ministerial nominees, Abubakar Malami, who was Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, over alleged unethical actions in the anti-corruption fight.

At a briefing, they also threatened to approach the court if Buhari went ahead to reappoint Malami as minister, claiming it would be against the constitution to reappoint somebody with such case.

The CSOs that jointly signed the statement included Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre for Africa, PAACA; YIAGA Africa; Civil Society Legislative and Advocacy Centre, CISLAC; Centre for Transparency Advocacy, CTA; African Centre for Media and Information Literacy, AFRICMIL; Protest to Power, P2P; Keen and Care Initiative; Connected Development, CODE; Social Action; Yes Project, and Lawyers Network Against Corruption, LAWNAC.

Passengers on a British Airways flight from London's City Airport to Dusseldorf in Germany were met with a surprise Monday morning when their plane touched down -- in the Scottish capital, Edinburgh.
The error was down to an incorrectly filed flight plan, leading both the pilot and cabin crew to believe the flight was bound for Edinburgh.

The flight was operated by German leasing company WDL Aviation on behalf of the British Airways subsidiary airline BA CityFlyer. The incorrect flight plan was filed at WDL Aviation's offices in Germany.

A video currently making rounds on social media, captures the moment a lady was being flogged by her brother over an alleged extramarital affair. According to one of her brothers, who spoke in Yoruba, the family doesn’t condone such act.

A Lagos-bound Air Peace flight was forced to return to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Wednesday, following safety concerns over an explosive on board the aircraft, Punch Metro reports.
The Corporate Communications Manager of the carrier, Mr Chris Iwarah, said the pilot aborted the flight after receiving information that there was an explosive on the aircraft.
Iwarah, who attributed the false information to an intending passenger who was denied boarding after the crew suspected that he might be mentally challenged, said the aircraft was already on its way to Lagos when the pilot made the return.
He said, “We confirm that Air Peace Flight P4 7121, Abuja-Lagos on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, returned to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after the crew received information that there was a dangerous item on board.
“In line with procedures and our high safety standards, the captain-in-command acted professionally, briefed passengers on board and took the decision to return as a precaution. The aircraft landed in Abuja without any incident and passengers disembarked normally to enable security personnel to conduct a check.
“Passengers on board the flight were screened a second time and the aircraft thoroughly checked. At the end of the exercise, the information was found to be a hoax as nothing was found on the aircraft. The aircraft was subsequently cleared to depart for Lagos and safely landed at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at about 11.44 a.m.”
He said the passenger who gave the information had since been taken into custody by security operatives for an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has described the information as false.
“The threat of a bomb on an early morning Air Peace flight from Abuja to Lagos has been confirmed to be false,” FAAN said in a statement signed by its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu.
“The passenger that raised the alarm is said to have a history of mental illness and is currently with the security agencies and medical experts for assessment,” the agency added.
FAAN stated that following the false information, its aviation security evacuated passengers, crew and cargo on board the flight and a bomb squad conducted a thorough check on the aircraft and baggage, which confirmed the information to be false.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria will like to re-assure passengers and all airport users that our airports are safe and secure. They should carry on their lawful activities without any fear,” FAAN added.

I see alot of Nigerians wanting to move abroad but are unaware of the challenges there,most especially in Europe.
I moved to Sweden in 2006(Although presently in Nigeria now handling some things)At first I loved what I saw - free education, beautiful and abundant nature -even in the cities, well designed communities with plenty of free facilities, many free community activities and a strong commitment to sustainability.
However after living here a few years I began to notice that some things are very wrong and Sweden is not the paradise it appears to be at first glance. Here is my list of the biggest issues as I see them:
Firstly, there is no consumer choice. Generic and expensive goods line the same few large supermarket type shops. Small business is virtually nonexistent aside from the awful pizza/kebab, Asian food or hotdog/ hamburger stalls run by entrepeneurial immigrants. Customer service and special requests are also non existent. Innovation, warmth, product knowledge and creativity are strongly lacking in the commercial sector.
Immigrants are welcomed, with racism frowned upon harshly, however once these immigrants arrive they are segregated off away from the native Swedes, unable to find employment and unable to navigate the endless complex rule systems with strong risks of being persecuted by the social services. The ‘welcoming’ Swedes dont allow their children to set foot in immigrant suburbs or schools, and wonder why there is very little integration happening.
Swedish people are very unfriendly, closed minded and conforming. It is almost impossible to form close friendships.
Winter is like hell. The first few months feel cosy and the snow is beautiful, but eventually the darkness, cold and boredom start wearing you down.
There are endless trivial rules which are harshly enforced. I wanted to get my licence in Sweden, but ticked a box on the licence form which asked about health issues. I have had declining kidney function (very irrelevant to driving) so I noted it down. I was unable to get a licence (I have been driving 15 years, but my Australian licence is not recognised here after the first year) because I needed a certificate from a kidney specialist. I was unable to be referred to a kidney specialist because my kidney function is not severely declined. When attempting to fix the issue - rules are rules, and thats simply the way it is. The issue is unable to be resolved so I am allowed to drive in neighbouring countries, but not here. Attempting to live here is filled with many similar incredibly frustrating experiences. Banks wont let you open an account except on weekday mornings, but dont let you know that until you have waited in a queue for several hours. There is no other option even if you work or study on weekday mornings, and nobody cares. Every simple process is a beaurocratic nightmare
Whilst at first I believed the free schools, childcare and medical services were a great family friendly policy, on closer interaction in the system I realised this is a system of control and incompetence which is not leading to positive outcomes. Firstly, everyone is expected to take their children to daycare and go to work.
There is no freedom of choice to look after your children, homeschool or rear your children according to your beliefs and values. Children are informed about endless rights, and have no obligations to behave in a respectful manner. Parents are powerless, teachers are powerless and getting an education in a swedish school is a debacle of children on phones and talking during class, swearing at teachers, abusing and bullying each other and any form of punishment towards unruly children is disallowed. School is somewhat reminiscent of lord of the flies.
Police are useless - except with regard to prosecuting minor crimes such as parking fines. Fewer than 3% of crimes are solved, reports are filed but never investigated - even with matters which are taken very seriously in the rest of the world such as violent crime and rape.
Whilst medical care is generally free to low cost, the wait times are insane. It could be 3 weeks to see your GP (too bad if the matter is urgent) and 10 months to see a specialist. Specialists are allowed to refuse referrals, and if you have a chronic illness you are likely in the wrong country.
So guys if you want to immigrate always think about the Pros & Cons so you won't regret!!!

Dovie Nickels, 26, was seen performing the sex act on the patio of the JW Marriott Hotel in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday evening. Austin PD officers were called to the hotel after a worker claimed to have seen Nickels ‘holding a silver object’ against her privates ‘with her legs straight up in the air, spread open.’
The woman is accused of continuing to behave indecently after she was arrested with no pants on while performing a solo sex act.
According to court documents seen by the Austin American Statesman, the worker who walked in on the scene ‘could hear Nickels making moaning noises.’ When he tried to approach her to tell her to stop what she was doing, she yelled at him to get back.
Nickels is said to have spent around seven or eight minutes masturbating on that patio, before moving to the terrace of the nearby Second Bar + Kitchen to continue pleasuring herself.

When approached by a cop, she is said to have stopped moving her arms under the table and placed them on top of it. It was then police officers noticed that Nickels was not wearing any pants.
After being arrested, cuffed, and put in the back of a cruiser, she is said to have continued masturbating.
Nickels, whose Facebook page lists her as a worker for Sonic Drive-In, has been charged with indecent exposure and is currently in Travis County Jail in lieu of $3,000 bond.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday doubted the integrity of President Muhammadu Buhari and described the anti-graft war of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a charade.
Obasanjo, who spoke at the 2019 quarterly business lecture organised by the Island Club of Lagos, expressed confidence that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would win the next presidential election scheduled to hold on February 16.
He urged Nigerians to defend the nation’s fledgling democracy and take the country back from the cabals presently controlling it.
The former president lamented that he had been vilified and called all sorts of names because of his support and position on Atiku.
“Have I ever said a lie? Has everything I said concerning the former vice president or the present incumbent not been proven beyond any shadow of doubt? Nigerians must rise up to defend our fledgling democracy; nobody would do this for us.
“There is no better person to lead Nigerians out of the present problems that have been created than Atiku. Some people claim to be fighting corruption when they have corruption right on their nose, they claimed to have integrity and we can all see that it is a lie.
“Unlike some others, Atiku has never claimed to be a saint or a messiah. When I said someone was not a messiah some years ago, some people were up in arms. As a Christian, the only messiah I know is Jesus Christ. A leader must be honest to himself and the people he wants to serve and be served. I believe Atiku has these qualities.
“A good leader must identify mistakes, show remorse, seek forgiveness and repent, and not pass the buck to others. Atiku has asked for my forgiveness and I forgave him as my religion tells me to,” Obasanjo said.
He added that a good leader must understand the problems he is trying to solve, reach out to a team of experts and concerned citizens, work hard to provide credible solutions that will work for Nigeria and the rest of Africa. “All these are lacking presently,” he said.
The former president, therefore, appealed to the electorate to vote for Atiku and the PDP in the coming presidential poll, saying that he (Atiku) would be president of all Nigerians and not just those who voted for him.
“This is the difference between Atiku and the incumbent. He will be a team leader and not be controlled by any cabal as we are currently witnessing.”
On the allegation that he didn’t give Atiku enough power when he was vice president, Obasanjo said: “It was untrue, but then, again, I didn’t need to call him acting president like some people did last year. But because I wasn’t absent from my duties for 104 days at a time, people don’t know he regularly stood in for me when I was out of the country on official duty. Atiku is experienced, exposed and has learnt his lessons. We need to change this change for the better.”
Atiku, who is the keynote speaker, in his presentation entitled: ‘My Vision to get Nigeria Working Again’ decried the present happenings in the country. He alleged that after unsuccessfully abusing the instruments of state to remove the leadership of the legislature, President Buhari had turned his sights on the judiciary. “Nigeria’s democracy is now in peril.”
He said his vision to get Nigeria working again through 10 pragmatic policies, which he hopes to enact if elected, include restoring investors’ confidence in the economy, supporting the private sector, privatising ailing enterprises, especially the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), assist small scale entrepreneurs to be more productive and prioritising human capital development.
“Our institutions need reform, our judiciary is under attack, we need to move from mere slogans and address concrete issues. We will create a model economy, functional federal structure, government based on the rule of law, create three million jobs annually and ensure all citizens have equal economic benefits. We will build strong and effective institutions, and reposition the public sector to be more disciplined and performance-oriented.
“I cannot think of a more important election than the forthcoming one, given our developmental challenges in Nigeria today. Opportunity to change this country begins on February 16; do not fail to be part of it. The people of Lagos are comfortable so they don’t vote, but you all must go out and vote this time around,” Atiku said.
According to him, “It is more to the benefit of Nigerians if we privatise the oil and gas sector. The government would have a small interest but it would be fully led by the private sector and we would reduce to the barest minimum, the corruption going on in the NNPC now.”
Also present at the lecture were all PDP bigwigs, including its Lagos State gubernatorial candidate, Jimi Agbaje; Senate President, Bukola Saraki; PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; Senator Ben Murray Bruce; former governor of Rivers State, Liyel Imoke; former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel; erstwhile Deputy National Chainman of PDP, Chief Bode George; and former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
Efforts to get reaction from the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Lanre Isa-Onilu, were not successful as he neither picked calls nor returned text message.
However, a founding member of APC, Prince Tony Momoh, said even Obasanjo could not doubt President Buhari’s integrity not to talk of sensitising Nigerians against the incumbent

An underwater search for footballer Emiliano Sala's plane will take place after cushions were found on a beach.
They were discovered near Surtainville on France's Cotentin Peninsula, on Monday, by French authorities.
Following this, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has identified an area of four square nautical miles for a search.
The plane disappeared with Sala and pilot David Ibbotson, from Crowle in North Lincolnshire, on board last week.
Due to weather and sea conditions, an underwater search is not expected to start until the end of the week and will take up to three days, an AAIB spokesman said.

It will use sonar equipment to locate any wreckage on the sea bed.
French safety authorities found the two seat cushions, which preliminary examinations suggested were likely from the missing aircraft.
Following this, detailed assessments of the flight path and last known radar position were carried out, which identified the search area.
Through the Ministry of Defence's salvage and marine operations team, a special survey vessel has now been commissioned to look for wreckage.
If it is found, a remotely operated vehicle will be sent down to examine it.
Argentinian Sala signed for Cardiff City and was travelling from Nantes, where he previously played, when the flight was lost over the English channel.
An official search for it was called off with Guernsey officials saying there was little chance those on board survived, however, more than £290,000 was raised for a private search to continue.
"We are aware that a privately operated search is also being conducted in the area," an AAIB statement said.
"And we are liaising closely with those involved to maximise the chance of locating any wreckage and ensure a safe search operation

A nine-man Disciplinary Committee of the Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday recommended that Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, be expelled from the party for engaging in anti-party activities.

The letter from the disciplinary committee, signed by the chairman Matthew Omeghara and secretary Kevin Ugwu, was made available to newsmen in Owerri.

According to the committee, Okorocha could not appear before the committee and did not put in writing any reasons for his absence.

The letter read in part: “The committee has patiently and painstakingly listened to the overwhelming evidence of Prince Ikechukwu Unegbu, and examined all electronic and media materials tendered and admitted in evidence against His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha’s anti-party activities and finds as follows:

“That there is overwhelming evidence that is unchallengeable of anti-party activities by His Excellency, Rochas Okorocha. “That His Excellency was openly and brazenly, sponsoring, financing, campaigning for his son-in-law Uche Nwosu, who is the gubernatorial candidate of Action Alliance, AA”

They cited some of the sections of their party’s constitution, that said that the actions of Okorocha contravened article 21 (A) i-vi of APC constitution (October 2014 as amended) punishable under article 21 D (i) (g).

“This is, therefore, the recommendation of the APC, Disciplinary Committee; that His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha, be expelled.”

On how they arrived at their decision, the APC, Disciplinary Committee said: “The prosecutor called up his petition against His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha.

The complainant is present while the respondent, His Excellency, Anayo Rochas Okorocha is absent. There is no letter on or on behalf of his Excellency explaining his absence,” it added.

Uzodinma also raised the alarm over an alleged plot by Okorocha to “rig his son in-law, Uche Nwosu, who is in Action Alliance, AA, into office, so he can cover his looting”, asserting however that this will be stoutly resisted by Imo people. He lamented that “the Okorocha administration has plunged the state into indebtedness of over N290 billion, since he assumed office in 2011”, and hinted his desire to probe the huge indebtedness, if voted into office. Uzodinma equally unveiled a 5-point blueprint tagged the “New Imo Agenda”, pointing out that his 5-point agenda will be anchored on the tripod vision of Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation. His words: “Our people should not cry anymore because light has come. This is a battle between light and darkness and light has come, darkness has disappeared. I want to tell all our people whose lands and properties were illegally appropriated by this wicked administration of Governor Rochas Okorocha, not to cry anymore. “We will recover all stolen assets and give them back to you. We will recover all properties illegally collected by Rochas and his family and give back to our people. Rochas is playing god but God has abandoned him due to his wickedness against the people of Imo State.”

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark and the party’s Benue south senatorial candidate in the coming elections, Comrade Abba Moro, in separate orations, said they were heartbroken by the unfortunate incident. They prayed God to grant their fallen heroes and heroine eternal rest, describing their deaths as tragic and traumatising. Lawmaker representing Oju/Obi federal constituency at the National Assembly, Mr. Samson Okwu, who could not hold back tears said “I lost key members of my campaign team in the accident, it was indeed a dark day for the Igede nation.” The Bishop Methodist Church in Oju, Rt. Reverend Odeh Ocheke, in his sermon urged the congregation to prepare for the last day as no one knew his or her final day on earth.

One of the reasons why our society keep on experiencing the heart breaking stories of internet fraud, rituals and all sorts of unbelievable quest for getting rich scheme is our societal response and reactions to young people who desired to start small.

Few days ago, my sister reminded me of the saying "there is dignity in labor". That is, whatever you're doing, that is bringing food to your table, that is giving you joy and is not at the detriment of others, you should be proud of it.

But, reverse is the case these days. The process no longer matter, only the result, regardless of how you get the result.

Attentions are been given to those who are showing off and not those who are showing up to promote their trades.

Social media got it all blasted - In recent time, I noticed that if you post a picture of you in an exotic restaurant (even though you didn't buy anything) your social media connections will bless you with lots of reactions and comments, but if you post things about your business or services, you'll be given little attention, less reaction, no comment.

What is this data saying about our society? People don't care or give little attention to things that add value to your life, they don't want to support or show interest in your process.

Then people (victim of the societal judgment) decided to go into the get rich quick at all means, or die trying schemes.

And we all can see what this has caused us as a society.

Dear your people, be proud of your trade. Even if family and friends don't support you. Even if they pay no attention to you, God is a rewarded of hard work.
There are people who are taking note of your consistency, your ability and your sagacity.

It won't only give you peace of mind, it will allow you a beautiful legacy and a good place in history.

Don't fall for it, embrace your small beginning - those who look down on you didn't create you, they won't pay your bills for you.
