2.) I understand why Democrats pushed back. They have to set a standard.
But, just like I talk about in this thread, I understand someone who does not live in the US may not have a cultural understanding of certain things.
Someone who does not live in the US may not understand the context of using that word 'monkey' in reference to black people in the way she did.
I'd rather allow their life to give their usage context (have they chosen to be hostile to black people in the past), give that person the benefit of the doubt depending on that life context, use it as a teaching moment and see if they get it or revert.
