Maybe the soldier converted to Judaism before joining IDF. If so, his family should respect his religious stance and allow him to be buried as a Jew.

CrimeRe: Zenith Bank Manager Convicted Over $46,900 Fraud by Ikaeniyan0: 4:47pm On Oct 25, 2024
Jigigev222:
A Chief Magistrate Court, Asaba, has sentenced a former manager of Zenith Bank Fidelis Egueke, to six months in prison for fraudulently obtaining the sum of $46,900.

Chief Magistrate Callistus Isioma Moeteke, accordingly found Egueke guilty of a charge brought against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Raphael Ogechi Eze from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Asaba Police Headquarters, presented the case under charge number CMA/295c/2024.

At the pendency of the trial, the prosecutor informed the court that Egueke had fraudulently received the $46,900 by using two Certificates of Occupancy (CofOs) as collateral, knowing that one of the land titles did not belong to him.

Furthermore, despite using the money for personal and family needs, he failed to repay the victim as promised.

The prosecutor also stated that one of the CofOs used as collateral was fake.

Egueke denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty. He was initially granted bail and was released to AGBORO OGHENERO, the then General Manager of Keystone Bank’s Asaba branch while awaiting trial.

In his defence, Egueke claimed to have repaid the money to the victim but failed to provide any evidence of payment to the court.

After evaluating the case, Chief Magistrate Moeteke ruled that the prosecution had proven its case against Egueke beyond a reasonable doubt.

Consequently, the court convicted him and sentenced him to six months in prison.

Additionally, the court ordered Egueke to pay a fine of N350,000 as an alternative to his jail term and N30 million as restitution.

The charge against Egueke stated: “That you, Fidelis Egueke, on several occasions in 2016 in Asaba, did obtain a credit facility of $46,900 (equivalent to N60,000,000) for Mrs Blessing Equeke and Master Chukwubuikem Fidelis Egueke from Chief (Dr.) Jude Ndudi by presenting Certificates of Occupancy No. DTSR 13,338 and DTSR 13425 as collateral. You later disposed of the land covered by DTSR 13,338 after using it as collateral and misrepresented the ownership of the other land covered by DTSR 13425, which also did not belong to you. This constitutes an offence punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Law, Cap C21, Vol.1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.”

It is also noteworthy that Egueke is currently being tried in a Federal High Court, Lagos for alleged conspiracy, forgery, obtaining money by false pretences, and fraud amounting to N179.498 million, with proceedings overseen by Justice Alexander Oluseye Owoeye.

Is this a joke? sad

Just 3 month in prison or he should pay a meagre 350k and avoid going to jail 😕

Why Is the court not ordering him to pay back the $46,900

Human Rights Lawyer and social commentator, malcolm omirhobo, keeps sharing his thoughts on Gowon and the civil war:

TO ACCEPT THE ABURI ACCORD IS BETTER
THAN THE NO VICTOR NO VANQUISH
PROCLAMATION AND THE 3Rs
PROMULGATION POLICY BY CHIEF MALCOLM
EMOKINIOVO OMIRHOBO .

It is a shame that 57 years after the Aburi
Accord Nigeria is still talking of restructuring .
No thanks to Gowon who bungled it
The Aburi Accord was a agreement reached
between the Nigerian government and the
secessionist state of Biafra on January 4-5
1967, in Aburi, Ghana. The accord aimed to
resolve the Nigerian Civil War. Key options and
agreements included

1. Confederation: Nigeria would become a
confederation of semi-autonomous regions

2. Regional autonomy: Regions would have
more control over internal affairs.

3. Abolition of the Federal Government's right to
make laws for regions

4. Creation of a weak central government

5. Establishment of a constitutional conference

If Gowon had implemented the Aburi Accord
there would have been no war, no waste of
resources , no loss of lives and properties, no
need for the "No victor, no vanquished"
proclamation and no need for the promulgation
of policy of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and
Reconstruction (the 3Rs)
Gowon didn't break any agreement by creating Rivers and Cross River state

Old Naira Notes Validity: CBN's Policy Indecisiveness Embarrassing - Rep Ogene Insists

Rep Afam Victor Ogene, Leader of the Labour Party Caucus in the House of Representatives, has said that despite the unintended factual error in the motion asking the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to take action concerning the concurrent validity of old and the redesigned naira notes - two years after the controversial policy was introduced - the CBN's lack of decisiveness on the policy remains embarrassing.

He also maintained that while the mix-up or innocent omission of the Supreme Court's subsisting pronouncement on the validity of both versions of naira notes is acknowledged, the House's intervention, following his motion on the subject matter, was not conclusive, the essence of which the House resolution directed its Committee on Banking Regulations to interface with the apex bank and report back in 21 days.

Rep Ogene made these assertions in a statement on Friday following the clarification by the CBN that the latest Supreme Court pronouncement reversed its earlier ruling by not stating a definite date that the old N200, N500 and N1000 naira notes would cease to be valid legal tender.

The lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra state, had on Thursday during plenary, moved a motion on the of 'Urgent National Importance', titled "Need for Central Bank of Nigeria to sensitize Nigerians about the non-legal status of old Naira notes from January 1, 2025."

The motion which referenced the earlier Supreme Court pronouncement setting the same deadline following some litigations that trailed the controversial CBN policy that threw the nation into grave difficulty and panic at the time, was passed by the House and referred to its Committee on Banking Regulations for further legislative action and report back to the House within 21 days.

But responding to the House resolution, the CBN's statement curiously said the decision of the House was "Calculated to disrupt the country's payment system", and urged the people to disregard the information, quoting the latest Supreme Court pronouncement.

However, Rep Ogene queried further in his statement: "But even with the latest development, some issues remain germaine: which country in the world runs its economy with two different sets of unidentical currency notes?

"What was the intention of the CBN in introducing new sets of notes; was it not with an aim at eventually replacing the old sets?

"Now that the 'politics' that heralded the introduction of the new notes are long over, shall the country and its people continue to suffer the afflictions arising therefrom? For instance, it is common knowledge that some people still mistake the new N200 note for the old N10 bill. Yet, both continue to co-exist.

"Besides the issue of deadlines, who in Nigeria is not embarrassed by the stinking, dilapidated nature of currencies emanating from the vaults of our country's commercial banks, while the CBN continues to look on, as if it is the new normal.
"Daily, citizens lose as much as between N5,000 to N10,000 for every N100,000 cashed in various banking halls, due to mutilated and torn notes.
"The CBN, as the country's apex bank and regulator of the sector, cannot hide under the legalese of 'deadline ad infinitum' to shrink its responsibilities to the banking public", he argued further.
A lot of rem members like this LP lawmakers have not business in the green chamber. He's crying over nothing

### Editorial: The Burden of Rising Fuel Costs on Nigerians

In recent months, Nigerians have faced unprecedented challenges due to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Tinubu administration. The decision, which saw petrol prices soar from ₦150 to ₦1,300 per liter, has had a profound impact on the daily lives of citizens. The government's subsequent recommendation to switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a more affordable alternative initially seemed like a viable solution. However, the recent hike in CNG prices from ₦200 to ₦450 per cubic meter has left many feeling betrayed and frustrated.

The removal of the petrol subsidy was justified by the government as a necessary step towards economic stability and reducing the fiscal burden. However, the abrupt and steep increase in fuel prices has exacerbated the cost of living crisis, pushing more Nigerians into poverty. The promise of CNG as a cheaper and cleaner alternative was a beacon of hope for many. Yet, the sudden price hike in CNG has dashed these hopes, leaving citizens to grapple with the harsh reality of skyrocketing energy costs.

This situation highlights a critical disconnect between policy decisions and the lived experiences of ordinary Nigerians. The government's failure to anticipate and mitigate the adverse effects of these price hikes reflects a lack of sensitivity and foresight. The burden of these decisions falls disproportionately on the most vulnerable, who are already struggling to make ends meet.

Moreover, the infrastructure required to support a widespread transition to CNG is still underdeveloped. The cost of converting vehicles to run on CNG, coupled with the limited availability of conversion centers, poses significant barriers to adoption. Without substantial investment in infrastructure and subsidies to offset conversion costs, the push towards CNG remains an unfulfilled promise.

In light of these challenges, it is imperative for the government to take immediate action to alleviate the burden on its citizens. This could include re-evaluating the pricing structure for both petrol and CNG, providing targeted subsidies for the most vulnerable, and accelerating the development of CNG infrastructure. Additionally, transparent communication and engagement with the public are crucial to rebuilding trust and ensuring that policy decisions are both fair and effective.

The current situation serves as a stark reminder of the need for policies that are not only economically sound but also socially equitable. As Nigeria navigates this complex transition, the voices and needs of its citizens must remain at the forefront of decision-making. Only through a compassionate and inclusive approach can the country hope to achieve true economic stability and social justice.

First first Nigeria is an importer of petroleum gas ( propane) or cooking gas... This is a by products of refining crude

What we have n export is natural gas ( methane) which is where CNG comes from

LPG and CNG are not the same

We have CNG... Import LPG

So how can you stop export of what you import?
Nigeria produce cooking gas, just that we produce less than 25% of our need and import more than 75% of our need. Some of the producers sell the cooking gas to international customers, but with this ban, they will all direct what they produce to the domestic market
