Originalsly: I agree we should not be importing lots of foodstuffs ... in fact many need to be banned or heavily taxed. Why should we be importing tomatoes? ...why should we be importing fish? How can importation of foodstuffs help our economy? ... help reduce unemployment? ... help build our national reserve? ... help strengthen the Naira? ... help reduce perpetual hunger in the land? It's like Tinubu borrowing and pumping money to strengthen the Naira ... how long did that last? It is better and wiser for the FG to invest in self production ... setting up policies and infrastructure for us to provide for ourselves as much as possible. Do we have control over our territorial waters? Chinese ships with cutting edge technology are out there culling all the fish ... our natural resources ... what is left for the local fishermen to catch? ..what happens to their livelihood? Should we then import fish?
Give a man fish you feed him for a day .... teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime "
We need to get out of the give a man fish mentality if we need to move forward While the FG is invest in self production, we can be importing for now till we start seeing the government positive result |

Omooba77: Nigeria’s sovereign-risk premium surged to an eight-month high, and its dollar bonds were some of the worst-performing emerging-market assets on Friday, amid concerns that cost-of-living protests across the country could derail the government’s economic reform plan.
At least 13 people have died in this week’s unrest, which comes soon after violent protests forced another African nation, Kenya, to scrap crucial measures introduced to raise budget revenue. Some investors may fear a similar outcome in Nigeria, where reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu have inflicted pain on the population.

I'm only asking for them to stop paying import duties and other fees, it will lead to reduction in production of their finish goods. |

If Tinubu agreed to the massive importation of some of this foodstuffs we consume, price would have falling a long time ago. He was so adamant on not importing even though a lot of Nigerians are struggling. |
Politics › Re: VP Kashim Shettima Speaks On Nationwide Protest by Ikaeniyan0: 5:40pm On Aug 02, 2024 |
I think it's last year or first quarter of this year, a committee the FG set up advised Tinubu to import foodstuffs, he refused, I don't understand why we can't import foodstuffs on the short run. The main reason people are on the street is because of hunger, people like sanwo olu saw the handwriting a long time ago https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/22/gov-sanwo-olu-to-request-fg-to-permit-importation-of-rice-paddy-for-imota-rice-mill/But Tinubu kept on insisting we should only eat what we grow. A leader needs to be flexible. Look at tomato, rodo, look at yam sef, Nigerian farmers, market women and men are overpricing their goods.
