How Time Flies!
By this period last year I was still confused, frustrated & psychologically messed up with my life. No job after NYSC & a lot of people looking upto me to become somebody.

I can't believe that today, I'm a printer & have my owm Printing Pres already. I can't believe that am paying bills, giving orders, directing work flow & touching people's life in so many ways (winks).

Biggest shout out to those that contributed greatly to this thread - judismphd, badpeople, blink183 & others. Blinks inspired me. To my ex who just left me when I have now made it, I owe you immeasurably.

Lets I forget, I have direct contact of importers of DI machines, infact thats what my uncle does. Their prices are cheaper. Hook me up if you are interested.

I know computer village more than you. New printers as well as office printers are readily available there.
But in this case the risk is high. Ask them questions about the machine and you will know that they don't have knowledge of them. But they will just give you a cover up answers.

1. They never use such machine before. So they only know that it prints
2. They sell anything that come to them either good or bad.
3. They go for the cheapest once in the market so that it can bring high profit
4. Don't bother about after sales.
5. Someone like me can buy from them because I know much about it than them.
6. They hardly have, I mean they hardly have good grade printers

I actually don't know where to start because I. Feel I am late.
The best DI machine I know is xerox. But you can only go for this if you are sure of yourself. It is costlier than others. But output and options favor it. You may have issues with the servicing and that is a big problem.
Konica is presently the best option. The parts as well as the engineers are available.
Sharp is also in the market but never gained acceptance as Konica.
Please don't buy in computer village.
They will sell scrap to you and use mouth to sell it.
We sell them and they are always available. You can visit us in Lagos. But is 250k for very good ones.

I am into printing but specialized in large format printing.
But even though you may not buy from me. Don't just buy from computer village.
You can ask me more about it. I will answer

Nice contribution sir. Apart from the issue of selling scrap, why else do you think that one should avoid buying from Computer village? Again, sir, do you think that there is no honest seller there? That's where I bought my sharp ar-m205 for copy/print and laserjet 5100 for colour separation

There are different types of DI printers and as such their prices vary with the grades too. As at 2nd of December when I went to Computer village, Lagos, Konica-Minolta c652 was sold for 280k, c451 was retailed at 230k, and another lower model went for 200k. I met other brands like Sharp, Xerox, Hp etc with a little bit of price difference.

You will have to factor in your location and availability of local technicians that can service the machine before choosing the particular model to buy. Here in the East, Imo precisely, Konica-Minolta is widely used for DI

Yea, graphic designing is a very nice job and lucrative too, especially if you are good at it. Had it been I have a sister, this is the area of Press I will encourage her to go into.

Graphics handling is very imaginative, exciting, self rewarding and gainful to engage in. It's the part of Press that can give you absolute control to pour out those fantasies squishing in ur head..and when you become extremely good at this, you might as well become a graphic god/goddess.

Of course she can go into printing if she wants, though she has explained already...but most graphic designers, typists and post printing (folding, inserting, compiling, stitching, etc) works in a press are usually handled by women. Infact, the Manager (administration) at the Press I did my training is a lady!

Lols, Direct Image ko, bro those poo cannot handle industrial production scenarios associated with quantity, strain & stress...Except the bizhub Press series, most of them are mere coloured printers/copiers.

@Ikonz....ur zeal in this business is highly commendable. It shows have not been doin anyting at all to keep me in tune with this printing biz. I've always loved how the finished works looks and I see a lot of demands for this craft. I don't have the intention of competing at this stage of my interest in this biz...I want to start my own niche in this biz has graphic designer and probably take the design to print elsewhere cos I can't afford those heavy machines now. I really want someone who is into the designs of souvenirs,wedding invites,handbills amongst other little things..I believe in growth and development

Officially, Just finished my training yesterday being friday 30th October. I am really happy & enthusiastic about it.

I have rented a big shop in a busy part of Owerri last week, furniture already procured too, next is purchase of printing machines.

Yea, I must agree that lot of nice opportunities are there, however let me explain your last sentence a bit.

The most stressful part of Press process is actually on the operating side of heavy Kord/Sord machines, which is not too advisable for graduates per se. But if you really want to be a good operator then be ready to expend atleast one year of dedicated/intensive training to achieve that.

Again, operator's remuneration generally are not actually that fantastic, that is if you weigh in the option of doing it so as to save up money & start your own press company. On the average, most OP's get cheesed from 40 - 80k maximum monthly, depending on certain factors. Now, this is not what you go about saving to buy machineries worth millions of naira, except if you mean that help will suddenly start falling from sky when you are ready to open yours.
