Though it won the Premier League last and can claim to be one of the top clubs in Europe and indeed the world, the same cannot be said when it comes to social media platforms. Manchester United Football Club only launched its Twitter page yesterday (July 10) but its fans are aligning with the page like wildfire. As at the time of this post, it has garnered over three hundred and sixty eight thousand (368k) fans in one day. In an official Press Release on BusinessWire, Manchester United launched its official Twitter (@ManUtd) and Sina Weibo (www.weibo.com/manchesterunited) pages. Manchester United already has an impressive online presence with 67m page views on its manutd.com website during the final month of the 2012/13 football season and over 34m likes on its Facebook page. Wonder why it took them this long to take to the microblogging site, Twitter. These new services will be complemented by the updated press office Twitter account (rebranded as @MU_spokesperson) that will supply updates on Manchester United’s business and commercial developments. One of the frequent issues women raise during counselling sessions is that their husbands are no longer romantic. They complain that the husbands do not tell them that "they love them", do not do romantic things anymore, e.t.c. Unfortunately on another hand, most men do not know that they are unromantic unless their wives tell them or complain to them. Here are some of the reasons that most men forget about romance months after marriage. Before we state the reasons, I will like to refer to the definition of "Romance" in light of this blog post. According to wikipedia, Romance is the expressive and pleasurable feeling from an emotional attraction towards another person associated with love. 1. After the wedding, the wooing stops. Men use every trick in the good ole trusty book to win their prizes - the women. Some of these tricks might include taking women to dinner, buying flowers e.t.c However, when all is said and done and the woman is in the house, the "book of tricks" is tossed out of the window. The book has outlived its usefulness! 2. Romance is expensive. Haven't you noticed that almost everything boils down to money when a man becomes a husband or a father? So when some men think about romance, they visualise the cost of the dinner at the fancy restaurant; the cost of flowers. Some men equate romance with expenses. 3. How do you expect me to be romantic after a hectic work schedule? When a man thinks of all the stress at work, the unnerving traffic to and from work, the last thing on his mind is romance. He is tired and worn out. To even smile and laugh with you can be an effort. After my first blog about expectations from marriage, I realised that it would be instructive to share some of the most important aspects about marriage over the next couple of days. Today, I am going to talk about one of the most important, yet misunderstood but ‘not-talked-about’ aspects of marriage – Sexual intimacy. Myles Munroe, in his book, ‘The power and purpose of Love and Marriage’ says that Many couples are confused about their sexuality, not so much with regard to their sexual identities as with understanding how to properly relate to each other sexually. Sexual dysfunction can be a significant source of frustration, conflict and unhappiness in marriage. The world has a lot to talk about sex even though based on error and misconceptions, but the church does not say much about it. This is tragic because believers, who know and follow the God who created sex and established its proper parameters, should be able to speak more intelligently and confidently about it than anyone else. My wife and I are privileged to be one of the teams in church that talk to young people about marriage before they get married. So I will be discussing the Christian perspectives about sexual intimacy. The Bible says that ‘You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free’. So I intend to talk about some of the facts and myths of sex in marriage. Please note that I refer to sexual intimacy in marriage because it is only permissible in marriage. 1. God created sex for procreation alone. False: God created sex for 3 reasons – Procreation, pleasure and communication. Procreation – God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Pleasure – Let’s be frank: Sex is fun. God meant for us to enjoy sex; otherwise, why would He have designed it to be so pleasurable? Check the Songs of Solomon - it is a legitimate book of the Bible. I am sure some ‘spiritual’ Christians would be ‘shocked’ about its contents. Communication - Sexual intercourse does not create intimacy, love, or oneness. However, it can express or communicate intimacy, love and oneness if they are present in the marriage relationship. No one should be more intimate physically, mentally, or emotionally than a husband and wife. 2. You do not need pornography to assist in lovemaking even in marriage. True. Lovemaking is supposed to be an exploratory journey between husband and wife and should not be subject to the intrusive, demonic influences of pornography. You have good Christian books to assist you in the knowledge of the physical and sexual needs of your spouse. You must know about the various expectations, do’s and don’ts and what edifies the matrimonial bed. I do recommend these Christian books - ‘The act of marriage’ by Tim and Beverly LaHaye; ‘Intended for Pleasure’ by Ed Wheat and Gaye Wheat. How I wish he would do something about his tommy, it is too big. How I wish she would stop giving excuses about her laziness, she never gets anything done. How I wish he would help in the housework on Saturdays instead of wasting time in front of the TV watching football. How I wish she would stop making that irritable sound at the back of her throat, all in the name of scratching the back of her throat. How I wish he would stop being funny when we go out. Doesn’t he know he is embarrassing us? How I wish she would do something about her weight. Wishes, Wishes, Wishes. These issues have been long standing unresolved issues in marriages. Harmless as they may be, when there are arguments, they become major issues that aggravate the quarrels. What have we done with these issues? Some people choose to ignore the issues while some continually nag about the issues. Have you discussed the issue with your spouse? Have you approached God with the issues? You may say that you have discussed this issue with him (her) but the excuse is always ‘that is how I was made, I can’t change now’. I find it very interesting when I hear a man say that his mobile phone is his property and his wife is not allowed to go through his messages. Equally interesting also is when I hear women say that they do not want to go through their husbands' phones because they do not want to see any incriminating love messages from other women. It really freaks me out. A man and woman can share a bed, make love but cannot read each other's phone messages. I have been married for 14 years and for as long as mobile phones came into existence, my wife goes through my phone messages when she is idle. She says that "I have a more interesting life" and we generally joke about whatever she sees on my phone. She even sees the SMS bank alerts on my phone too. This means she basically knows my bank account balances and also sees messages from my friends - male or female. Between us, there is nothing hidden. Why would I want to hide information from the woman I have chosen to live my life with? Why would I want to hide information form the woman that is the mother of my children? To me, it just doesn't make sense. Continue reading at http://www.covenantrelationships.org/2013/01/you-are-not-supposed-to-go-through-my.html |
I spent some time talking with a close friend recently on his wife’s compulsive attitude to her business. He was getting worried that his wife had now placed her business as the first in her order of priorities. He couldn’t understand where the energy was coming from. She was spending an inordinate amount of time on her business to the detriment of her family and her God. He even told me that he was the one that set up the business for her so that she would not be bored but he didn’t know it would turn out to be this way. And this has been on for over 2 years. I listened to him with rapt attention forgetting that I was the one that phoned him. I didn’t mind ‘burning my credit’ because I owed it to my friend to listen and proffer some advice. He is a good friend and I love his family. He is rich and I know that he can afford to take care of his family without the wife lifting a finger to work. I then asked him some questions; “what do you think your wife is trying to prove?” Does she have faith in you? Does she think she needs to build a war chest while she can lest she be thrown out in the cold when there is a problem in the home or when you pass away? Do you think she trusts you? Does she think you have someone else somewhere?” Continue reading...http://www.covenantrelationships.org/2010/10/do-you-trust-your-husband.html |
Some government functionaries may think Social Media is bad but some others have embraced it wholeheartedly, as least to be reachable by the masses or to keep abreast of technology. A recent survey from the Digital Policy Council (DPC) done in December 2012, shows that 75 percent of the world’s heads of state have a presence on Twitter. A total of 123 world leaders out of 164 countries had accounts on Twitter set up in their personal name or through an official government office. In 2011 only 69 out of 164 countries had embraced Twitter. The new figures represent a 78% increase in the number of heads of state and national governments on Twitter from 2011. In terms of followership, President Obama again maintained the top spot of all world leaders, with a vast 24 million followers, adding 15 million followers in one year. 2012 was an election year, therefore, the Twitter account continued to be managed by the presidential campaign staff. Obama continued to occasionally post his own tweets, signed with his initials. How many people follow President Goodluck Jonathan on Twitter? And what position does he occupy? Check http://www.innovation-village.com/2013/01/do-you-know-that-75-of-worlds-heads-of.html to find out. Do you think Nigerians would like to follow our President on Twitter? |
I wonder why anyone would take his or her phone for a shower but I guess this is for some of the forgetful folks out there. Or to spare the prudent parent who just realised that his or her kid just decided to wash his or her phone by dunking it into a bowl of water. Well, Fear Not. For here is Sony to the rescue. Sony has just unveiled a bath-friendly smartphone that can be used in the shower or bath without the risk of damage. This was revealed at the ongoing CES 2013. This water-resistant feature is relatively common in Japan, but has not been included in many top-end smartphones released elsewhere.
