UNILORIN Commends JAMB For Transparency In Handling 2025 UTME Results

The University of Ilorin has officially commended the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its transparent handling of the 2025 UTME results, especially in light of the challenges that affected over 300,000 candidates.

In a letter dated May 15, 2025, addressed to the JAMB Registrar, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, expressed deep appreciation for the Board’s honesty, integrity, and sense of responsibility. According to the letter, the university noted that despite the seriousness of the issues that arose, JAMB tackled them with truthfulness and ensured nothing was hidden from the public.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that JAMB’s approach reflected strong moral values such as courage, honesty of purpose, and strength of character. He further stated that the Board’s transparency serves as a call to the younger generation to emulate these virtues.

Importantly, the letter acknowledged the Board’s admission of an error caused by a service provider, which led to a major result discrepancy. Rather than shifting blame, the Registrar took full responsibility — a move the university described as “an uncommon phenomenon in Nigeria.”

Professor Egbewole also used the opportunity to express pride in the Registrar as a distinguished alumnus and worthy ambassador of the University of Ilorin. The letter concluded with a prayer for continued guidance and grace in his service to the country.

EducationJAMB Invites Stakeholders To Review 2025 UTME Results Amid Public Concerns by ikutikut(op): 7:49pm On May 13, 2025
In response to public concerns surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken a significant step to ensure transparency and restore public confidence in its processes.

A letter dated 13th May 2025 and signed by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, confirms that the Board has approved the formation of a special review panel to assess the release of the 2025 UTME results. This initiative follows widespread reactions in some quarters concerning the outcome of the examination.

The review panel, according to the letter addressed to Mr. Alex Onyia, CEO of EDUCARE in Lagos, is expected to:

1. Appraise the conduct of the 2025 UTME.
2. Identify any challenges that may have affected the examination process.
3. Recommend appropriate measures to prevent future occurrences.

JAMB emphasized that participation in the panel comes at no cost to the Board, underlining the voluntary nature of this exercise.

The panel is composed of a wide range of stakeholders in the education sector, including:

1. All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS)
2. National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools
3. Chief External Examiners (CEEs)
4. Computer Professionals of Nigeria (CPN)
5. Educational Assessment & Research Network
6. Vice Chancellors of Universities
7. Rectors of Polytechnics
8. Provosts of Colleges of Education
9. Other relevant Board staff

The date for the review meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, 15th May 2025.

This move by JAMB signals a proactive and inclusive approach to addressing issues in the UTME process and ensuring that feedback from education stakeholders guides future improvements.

For students, parents, and educators alike, this development is a welcome step toward greater accountability and trust in Nigeria’s admission system.

EducationJAMB Begins Review Of 2025 UTME Results Following Public Outcry by ikutikut(op): 8:00pm On May 12, 2025
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a review of the 2025 UTME results after thousands of candidates complained about unexpectedly low scores.

What Prompted the Review:
- Massive backlash on social media with the hashtag #thisisnotmyresult
- Widespread complaints about blank questions and technical errors during the exams
- Allegations that the results do not reflect actual performance

Steps JAMB Is Taking:
- Full review of registration, examination, and result processing stages
- Collaboration with experts, university heads, testing specialists, and educational bodies
- Special focus on exam dates: 24th, 25th, 26th, and 28th April 2025

Possible Actions If Errors Are Confirmed:
- Adjusting affected results
- Rescheduling exams for affected candidates
- Publishing detailed mark sheets for transparency

Legal Push by Candidates:
Over 11,000 students are preparing to take legal action, demanding full transparency. A group led by Alex Onyia of Educare is collecting cases to press for urgent JAMB reforms.

Past UTME Trends vs 2025 Figures:
- 2025: 78% scored below 200
- 2024: 76% scored below 200
- 2022: 78% scored below 200
- 2021: Only 0.06% scored above 300

Despite similar patterns, students insist this year’s issues are different and deserve a proper investigation.

What You Should Do:
If you believe your result is affected, stay alert for further announcements from JAMB and prepare any evidence of irregularities. The board says it will act quickly to ensure fairness

EducationNBAIS Certificate Equal To WAEC, Neco—board Defends Qualification by ikutikut(op): 7:47pm On May 12, 2025
The National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) has reaffirmed that its certificate is officially recognised and holds the same value as WAEC and NECO. Despite this, many universities still refuse to accept it, mainly due to lack of awareness.

Key Facts About NBAIS:
- Established since 1960, recognised nationally in 2011
- Became an independent examination board in 2017
- Offers Arabic and Islamic studies along with English, Mathematics, and Sciences
- Open to students from all religious backgrounds

Official Approval:
- Certified by the Federal Ministry of Education
- Approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC)
- Legally valid for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions

Challenges in Acceptance:
- Many universities, especially in the south, still reject NBAIS certificates
- Rejection often due to limited understanding of NBAIS’s status and standards

Where It’s Already Accepted:
- Public universities in Kano, Kaduna, and other northern states
- Several federal institutions adhering to NUC regulations
- Over 1,200 affiliated schools in 26 states

Next Steps:
NBAIS is urging the federal government to launch a national awareness campaign. This will help ensure that all students with NBAIS qualifications are treated fairly during the admission process.

Equal recognition of all approved certificates will promote educational access, inclusiveness, and national development.

EducationFederal Government To Introduce Teachers’ And Medical Corps In NYSC Reform Plan by ikutikut(op): 4:31pm On May 08, 2025
Federal Government to Introduce Teachers’ and Medical Corps in NYSC Reform Plan – What You Should Know

The Federal Government is set to reform the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by creating two new service arms: the Teachers’ Corps and the Medical Corps.

These changes aim to boost development in rural communities and improve the scheme’s relevance.

Why the NYSC Is Being Reviewed
The NYSC, established in 1973, faces challenges like safety concerns, poor accommodation, and outdated practices.

A new committee will review the scheme, gather public input, and recommend changes to structure, rules, and funding.

New Additions: Teachers’ and Medical Corps

- Teachers’ Corps: For NCE graduates, posted to rural schools to reduce teacher shortages. May lead to permanent roles for outstanding members.

- Medical Corps: For doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers. Will serve in remote areas to improve access to maternal and child health services.

Support for Skills Training
The reform will also promote vocational and technical training, giving corps members practical skills to start businesses or pursue careers after service.
