As long as a child, does not see any consequences for his or her actions, they will never see any reason not to flout your orders or instructions. This I have seen several times. At young age you must be serious with disciplining them. You must use punishment and flogging when neccessary(I do not mean unnecessary beating the child out of hate or anger). But for some children, it is absolutely necessary to whoop them when needed.
Infact, i have personally seen a jss3 girl boost that she will never obey her mother, because mummy will not even do anything when she comes back.

I think our conversation should conclude as , we need to keep an eye on those children, they are bound to be naughty when small and they need guidance and correction. We can't afford to leave them or spare them to their own faith. They will grow sour. Imagine what they know now at their age and what you know at the same age.

Some of them will do better when you stoke them. Children of nowadays are different from those breed in the past. They want their freedom right form the womb and they seems not want to blink an eye.

You see , there was a case of one of my cousins calling our big sister girl. Uno the sister (68) is just a year you get them the girls father. Initially wanted to slug it out with the big sister for being hostile to the girl (30). But it broke me down completely when I was eventually able to amount courage to extra why she was a bit hostile to the girl. Mind you her children are way way older than this girl.

Now let's imagine a girl whose parents just relocated from Egypt in my daughter's school just gave some few dirty slaps to their principal and the proprietor said it will be settled amicably. Note the principal had 3 kids in the same school ,. Married ooo.

So as the principal, how will you feel ? as the husband how will you feel ? as one of the children that is grown enough to understand the scenario, how will you feel ?

I think we need to reason beyond our sentiments. We really need to disabuse our thinking

If a student calls a teacher stupid, a british school will investigate the matter, the parents will be invited, the child will be sanctioned, by spending time at the counsellors office, apologizing to her teacher, her parents and her mates

I taught in a british christian school in Abuja

It will surprise you how well behaved those kids are

I had kids in grade 8, jss2 who have been to at least 10 solid countries, some of them are even half Nigerian or indian or French

I don't see all these you mentioned among them


They were trained not to be violent, they will rather speak their mind than use their fists

See this is what I mean, when I was serving I was a teacher

It was the practice in that school to flog students and send them home when they do not pay school fees, when actually it's the parents that owe

So what's the point of flogging the kids, they don't work, if anybody should be flogged, invite the parents and flog them.

And what's the point of sending the kids home, they obviously don't go home, most parents already left home so the kids don't go home or they go home and they are largely unsupervised so they can commit nonsense

Girls go to boys home or boys go to girls hone of they go to the bush to smoke or play useless games, even rape.... It's ridiculous and pointless

I explained all these to the principal. He was embarrassed and reasoned deeply with me.

He stopped flogging the students for fees and if they had to be sent home, he makes sure he inform the parents beforehand. If you are owing don't bother to let your child come on so so so day....

What I find amusing in this thread is the notion that all students who attend expensive schools are not disciplined.

There are high end schools whose students know that there are consequences for actions and they wouldn't do such actions because of the consequences.
