We’ve all seen the news. Bayo Onanuga has officially labeled Peter Obi a "Political Nomad" following his exit from the ADC today. While the APC supporters are celebrating this "branding," we need to look deeper.
Usually, you don’t punch down unless you’re worried.
Let's consider this:
(1) Onanuga knows that Obi leaving the ADC doesn't mean he's quitting; it means he's looking for a cleaner, more powerful platform (possibly the rumored NDC). The APC is desperate to label him "unstable" before he lands on a platform that can actually challenge them.

(2) in 2023, They called him "a man with 4 people in a room" and he ended up with 6 million votes. So they are trying to use the "Nomad" tag to devalue his brand before 2027 becomes a repeat of that disruption.

If Obi, Atiku, and Kwankwaso eventually find a way to merge outside the ADC’s internal drama, the APC’s path to victory becomes 10 times. harder. Onanuga is trying to sow discord early.

After all, President Tinubu once part of the AD, AC, ACN, and then APC? Does that make him a nomad too?

Although he did not mention any name, Atiku said an official of the party, suspected to be Nafiu Bala, is enjoying unusual privileges suggestive of outside backing.

“What is happening is external interference. Some individuals have been bought over and used because certain interests have noticed that the party is gaining momentum by the day. They see this growth as a threat if it continues.”

“How can someone who claimed to be the party chairman suddenly be provided with security, vehicles and a residence? It clearly points to outside influence. We have evidence. We know where he resides and we observe how he moves around, almost like a governor,” he said.

He also questioned the factional chairman’s movements since the crisis began.

“Since the beginning of this crisis, he has not travelled to his hometown. Why is he afraid?” he asked.

The crisis in the party reached its height when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) removed the names of David Mark, National Chairman, and Rauf Argebesola, National Secretary of the party, from its portal.

INEC based its action on the ruling of the Court of Appeal.

Daily Trust reports that Nafiu Bala, factional chairman of the party, has been locked in a battle with Mark over control of the party.

Bala, who was Deputy National Vice Chairman of the ADC, had rejected the ratification of Mark as National Chairman, back in July.

He had said after the previous exco of the party resigned, he was supposed to take over as chairman.

He had headed to the court for an injunction to restrain Mark and others under his National Working Committee (NWC) to stop parading themselves as leaders of the party.

He also sought an order to ask INEC to recognise him as acting national chairman.

Bala also sought an order to stop the commission from recognising or dealing with Mark’s group as officials of the party.

The motion ex parte was heard on September 4, 2025, after which Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court in Abuja granted his prayers and directed the respondents, including INEC, to show cause why the application should not be granted.

Mark had appealed the order on December 18, 2025, challenging the jurisdiction of the trial court, but the court of appeal dismissed the appeal on March 12, 2026, and issued preservatory orders.

Bala had filed another motion on September 15, 2025, seeking to restrain the ADC from holding any convention, congress, conference, or meeting, and to stop INEC from monitoring or recognising any such activities pending the determination of the suit.

Last week, INEC said it received multiple letters from solicitors to both parties, making competing claims to the party’s leadership and issuing various demands.

In its resolutions, INEC said it would abide strictly by the orders of the court of appeal in handling the leadership dispute within the ADC.

How will Inec know who is dead? Inec should focus on logistics challenges management, which is the major issue.

If you don't revalidate your voter card, it is ASSUMED that you are dead.
If you are alive, go revalidate, if not now maybe after the election.
If you choose not to revalidate, we assume that your are dead (at least dead electorally of not literarily)

Logistics does not affect the integrity of the election. It has never. Supposed voter aparthy does and that must be sorted. Logistics is an addendum.

What makes this acceptable is the fact that you can do it physically and can also do it online. That is why I support the clean up model. It's not perfect but it's a great choice/decision.

If you are doing something like this you will start early and give the necessary time for most not even all to be captured. This is another way of burdening the common voter. Let them go through their records and take note of voters who have missed at least 2 election cycles, paste their names at the PU to revalidate. If they don't come for it, they are deemed dead or invalid.

The big problem is that we don't have a clear way of reporting deaths in our national identity database. International passport, NIN, driver's license.... name it.

If the INEC voting system is really foolproof, there should be no way for someone who's absent to vote.

This is the best way to approach it. I have not voted in the last four elections and I am still alive and I may choose to vote in this election. The revalidation as organized by INEC is still bmthe better option than your opinion of automatic wipe out of names or delisting people who may change their minds to voted this coming election. Let every man go and use his hand to confirm or otherwise his fate.

Some people/comments up there are just stack ignoramus. Asking why INEC have to do revalidation of voter cards is the highest level of illiteracy.

Many people on that list are (long) dead while some have traveled outside the country for years with no intention of coming back.

This revalidation will help us know the exact turn out level of voters in every election cycle. Not all these shout of "low voter turn out, low voter turn out" "voter aparthy, voter aparthy" everytime when even many on that list don die, are we expecting them to rise from the dead to vote?

Voter revalidation should be done every four years before the general election to know those who are still alive or in the country to vote then we can judge our voter turnout with that.

This case the person posted is cut-and-join.... Let me take you down memory lane; Akapo Vs Hakeem-Habeeb & Ors.

Akapo was elected Chief Ojora of Lagos to handle properties scattered all over Lagos owned by the Ojora family; The family has a Constitution (Terms of Settlement) enacted 17/12/64 that the Chief Ojora as head & other members of the Family Council (involving extended family members) are responsible for collecting all levies and rents from their many properties in Lagos,12 must form a quorum. Due to deaths, they hadn't formed a quorum for a long time hence on 22/4/84, they removed Akapo in a meeting not convened by him. The family continued as before to share rent until dissatisfied that Akapo was still benefitting, some members on 1/4/85, drove out all persons, seized the receipt books including cash in one of their properties and on 7/4/85, formed a caretaker committee (excluding Akapo) to oversee collection of all rents and levies in all their properties and published same on newspapers This committee started managing and renting out offices to persons blocking same from the Chief Ojora, Akapo.

Akapo went to the Lagos High Court, that he wanted all monies returned, injunction barring the said caretaker committee from entering or leasing any of the offices or properties belonging to the Ojoras, that he is also entitled to same as Chief Ojora. The High Court said No, he didn't suffer any damages and it will not grant the injunction because he didn't file the suit quick enough, again, the properties needed to be managed hence granting the injunction will have effect on the management, hence all monies to be collected by the caretaker committee be paid to the Lagos State Registry pending when the suit is successfully dealt with.

Akapo went to the Appeal Court and by 1-2 lost again, he approached the Supreme Court and won. The Supreme Court held that any meeting not convened by him cannot stand and granted the injunction but again in law, you look at the lead judgement. Other supporting or opposing judgements, are called orbiters, and are not quoted or used as base/foundation.
Mind you, this was an interlocutory appeal.

The lead Judgement was read by Justice Karibi-Whyte on 10/7/92. Nnaemeka Agu was just a member of a panel of 5, but I will still deal with the matter here;

Some things are instructive:
1. There was some disagreement prior to the formation of the caretaker committee.

2. There was no meeting because of the lack of quorum.

3. Any meeting must be convened by the Chief Ojora, Akapo.

The Supreme Court, per Mary Odili JSC held "

Now to ADC.

David Mark & Aregbesola were brought in on July 2 (on interim basis). They hadn't started acting at the time despite the speeches they made, they were only pre-coronated. That they were endorsed did not mean they had taken over. They didn't carry out one administrative function on or before July 29.
There was no forceful takeover.
On Nafiu's now-deleted Facebook posts, he was backing Mark and co as far as July 11.

A NEC meeting was held by the highest ruling organ of the Party, NEC and monitored and approved by INEC on July 29 where formal handover took place. By July 31, Nafiu held a press conference that he is the Acting National Chairman. Let me pause here:-

Decisions of NEC are binding and final. So, even if Bala or any other exco had claimed not to have resigned, they have been caught up by NEC decisions. When Oshiomhole and Giadom had their fight, APC NEC dissolved the whole NWC even though some of these excos were not involved in the fight. Leadership and membership issues are within the internal affairs of a political party and the Court is divested from delving into such matters (except since 2023 for obvious reasons).

Nafiu had filed his suit on Sept 4 but as at July 29, David Mark had started his job. Before July 29, Nwosu was in-charge.

If I agree without conceding INEC and/or your position, when did the hostilities start? Before Sept 4? Before July 29?

By virtue of the latest Supreme Court Judgement on this, the suit was filed Sept 4, 25; a period David Mark was already Chairman.
INEC claims David Mark it endorsed David Mark on Sept 9, so does INEC have the rights to dabble into leadership issues? So why did Nafiu file a suit against someone whom INEC doesn't recognise according to the Commission?


To end this: The new Electoral Act 2026: Section 83(5):
“Subject to the provision of subsection (3), no Court in Nigeria shall entertain jurisdiction over any suit or matter pertaining to the internal affairs of a political party.”

Hopefully, we can follow Congresses leading to the April 14 Convention of the ADC

Q. Does a chairman who has resigned have the locus to write to the electoral body on behalf of the party? If you claim he didn't resign at the time, why did he say they did or why should we accept that Bala actually resigned.
