Not only did French woman Elizabeth Lorentz, 48, marry her 45 year old step son, Eric Holder, but her ex, who is Eric's father even attended their wedding. Yes, you read right. Lol. Kolo people! According to French daily Republicain-lorrain.fr , Elizabeth married Eric on Saturday October 4th in the parish church in the small village of Dabo in Alsace-Lorraine, north-east France, after fighting for months with French authorities for the right to marry him. According to reports, Elizabeth met Eric's father in 1989, had a child with him in 1997, married him 2003 and divorced him in 2006. All this while Eric was her stepson. Now he's her husband... About her separation in 2006, Elizabeth told RL "I was not expecting it, it was a shock. I was an adult so I made do. But our daughter who was nine-years-old felt the separation very badly. She cried every day. That's when Eric was a great support for us and our relationship evolved.' Speaking about the situation, Eric, who also has a daughter, said he did his best to comfort his half-sister, who is now his step- daughter, 'When my father left my mother, I felt abandoned. I knew how she felt. So I had to be there for both of them' Eric and Elizabeth soon began an affair that was frowned upon by many. And when they decided to marry, French law, which prohibits all unions between step children and step-parents - even former ones, would not allow it. The couple fought the law and finally obtained a right to marry from a local court and the day they married, Eric's father, who now supports the relationship attended. "Eric's father, who is also my ex-husband agrees perfectly our history. Our girls too. They have almost the same age and consider themselves sisters. We never differentiate between them. I simply hope that our story will be useful to other couples in our situation, because I know there are some' Elizabeth told the French newspaper... |

Dr. Chimezie Osigwe, 64, is a retired school principal of Awa Community Secondary School, Ejemekwuru in Oguta local government area of Imo State. He not only allegedly killed his mother, he was said to have also dried her remains and stored them in a cupboard in a room that allegedly served as his shrine! The 78-year old mother, Mrs. Lucy Osigwe, reportedly went missing sometime in 2003, some 10 years ago! There was no clue whatsoever about her where- abouts. Dr. Osigwe lived in a dilapidated house. He had no fleet of cars and estates. Some members of his Ejemekwuru community said he was a recluse. Nobody understood his ways. Everything surrounding him suggested abject poverty! Two stories were told about how the remains of his allegedly missing mother were found. One of the stories had it that a relation of the man was not particularly happy that Osigwe was reluctant to settle his indebtedness to him and decided to search his house to help himself with whatever he could lay his hands on. The late Lucy Osigwe’s body inside cupboard But instead of finding cash, the young boy allegedly stumbled on the old woman’s remains and narrated the story to other relations who then mobilized and stormed Osigwe’s shrine where the boy’s story was allegedly confirmed. The other story had it that some youths from feelers from the late woman’s maternal home, Amakohia, Awa, also in Oguta local council area, showed that they made the startling discovery. A villager, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard, said that following the inexplicable disappearance of the old woman, some villagers decided to double check the stories told by Osigwe. “On getting to Ejemekwuru, our people demanded to know why the woman had remained missing for 10 years. the son told the villagers that his mother was mad at a point and ran away to an unknown place”, the villager recounted. Not satisfied with the response, as well as the non-chalant attitude allegedly exhibited by the son, the villagers, according to the villager, went berserk, destroying things in sight and ended up spotting the large cupboard containing the remains of their loved one. “With this startling discovery, the villagers quickly lodged a complaint with the police who subsequently swung into action”, he stated. The suspect, Dr Chimezie Osigwe Confirming the discovery of the woman’s body, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, said it was found in a large cupboard inside the shrine located in the suspect’s private room. “The missing woman’s lifeless body was found in a village called Ezuru Umuagwu, Ejemekwuru, Oguta local government area of Imo State”, the CP said. “The corpse of the 78-year-old Mrs. Osigweh, declared missing in 2003, was found in a large cupboard inside the shrine in a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice. “The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years, was alleged to have been placed in the warehouse by her son, Chief Dr. Chimezie Osigweh, a 64-year old retired school principal”. The Imo police boss alleged that the suspect was a member of a sect, adding that “preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the late woman could have been murdered for ritual purpose”. Katsina also alleged that members of a sect used to hold secret nocturnal meetings in the place to enhance their occultic powers. “The principal suspect, Chief Dr. Chimezie Osigwe, who is the son of the woman, has been arrested and is making useful statement to the police”, the CP said. The suspect refused to disclose why he treated his mother disrespectfully for ten years. He rather pleaded that he should not be forced to say anything for fear of being attacked by his enemies. “Do you know that I have escaped three assassination attempts? Please, I will not say anything because my enemies are all over the place so that they will not use it to attack me”, Osigwe told journalists. |
It’s not the kind of news you want to hear about a man whose global exploits as a Nigerian are matched only perhaps by music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, but there are reports that, three days to the five-fay burial writes of author and teacher, Chinua Achebe, his family is locked in controversy as to whether to hand over the programme for his burial to government – federal and Anambra state in particular. The burial is scheduled for Thursday, 23 May in Ogidi, Anambra. According to Premium Times, they have in the last one week, “received several telephone calls from some of Mr. Achebe’s family members, contemporaries, associates, friends and fans accusing the late writer’s wife, Christy and her children, of surrendering Mr. Achebe’s corpse to the government for pecuniary gains. The family wouldn’t comment on the allegations.” While alive, Mr. Achebe, who died on March 22 at 82, was a consistent and vociferous critic of the Nigerian federal and state governments who he repeatedly accused of monumental corruption, ineptitude and misgovernment. In protest against the way Nigeria is run, the revered novelist, in 2004 and 2011, rejected national honours awarded him by the federal government. But the federal and state governments that Mr. Achebe criticized and kept at bay while alive have now been handed leading roles in the burial of the globally acclaimed novelist, a development that has irked not a few family members, contemporaries, fans and associates. “Prof was a simple man who deliberately rejected affiliation with the Nigerian government,” lamented an Achebe family member who pleaded not to be named for fear of being ostracized by the late writer’s family. “It is now shocking and nauseating that his wife and children have now sold his corpse to the same destructive forces he opposed till death.” She added, “We are trying to understand why they are trying to destroy his legacy when the man actually left more than enough wealth to be given a befitting burial without any government getting involved. Why don’t they want to spend the man’s money to give him a befitting burial?” Checks by this newspaper revealed that the federal and Anambra state government are handling almost all aspects of the burial. The federal government has constituted a Chinua Achebe Transition Committee, led by Professor T. Uzodinma Nwala, to handle logistics for the burial. The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala, has also been detailed to arrange accommodation, transportation and security for all guests expected at the burial. In fact, a document seen by one of our sources listed Mr. Achebe’s wife and children among guests being expected at the burial, suggesting that they were being invited to their own patriarch’s interment. A programme drawn up by the Professor Nwala’s committee showed that Mr. Achebe’s remains would, on May 21, be received at the airport in Abuja by Nigerian politicians and political office holders, some of whom the writer considered corrupt and inept while alive. The novelist will also be treated to a reception at the National Assembly, populated mainly by elements Mr. Achebe believed were holding Nigeria down. “We can’t understand why Achebe’s wife and kid are taking steps that are contrary to what the good man stood for,” a contemporary of the late writer said via telephone from the United States. “They are doing the opposite of what their father would do.” He requested not to be named for fear he might be accused of trying to derail his friend’s burial. Olu Oguibe, a Professor of Art and African-American Studies at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, and family friend of the Achebes, has been especially vociferous in his criticism of the late writer’s family. “To the best of the knowledge of many who were close to him, his views and opinion of the Nigerian government and that of his state which he so clearly protested in 2004 and 2011 had not changed,” Mr. Oguibe said in an April 29 post on his Facebook page that stirred extensive discussion. “ So, what does it mean that in death, the very same government that this great philosopher and patriot so strongly and unequivocally disapproved of has been given free rein to organize his last rites.” “The government that he rejected and protested in life is now the chief host at his funeral. That has nothing to do with him, of course; he’s moved on and he made it absolutely clear what he believed in and where he stood. Yet, what does it mean for those who’ve turned his farewell over to brigands and thieves?” Many other angry fans of the late writer soon joined in the debate. “In every sphere of existence, Nigerians are found wanting,” lamented Zainab Haliru, an Abuja-based writer. “It is as though we are meant to be case studies of the exception of rules. We bastardise everything. A man like Achebe just did not fit into our dishonest and disrespectful ways. I would have thought that his immediate family would have turned down the offers. I remember Gani Fawehinmi’s family did.” Yet another commentator, Ralph Tathagata, said, “Without any resort to insult, children of great minds are not known for making remarkable decisions at moments like this.” Mr. Tathagata then added, “When the most popular modern existentialist philosopher, Jean-Paul Sartre died in April, 1980, President Giscard d’Estaing came in person to the hospital and spent an hour beside his coffin. He understood that Sartre, a man who had always rejected official honours (including the Nobel Prize for Literature), would not want a national burial. However, he told Sartre’s friends(including Simone de Beauvoir), ‘but the government would like to pay the cost of his funeral. The Sartreans thanked him, but refused. The Achebeans must not let these base elements in the corridors power stand astride Achebe’s grave.” The family sources insist that this is not the first time his wife and children will so “betray” him – pointing to 1990 when they accepted a 75,000 pounds gift from the head of state at the time, military dictator Ibrahim Babangida. Mr. Achebe, the source said, was still in coma when the emissary arrived with the money. One of the late writer’s son, Ike, who reportedly warned the family against accepting the gift, was shouted down by other family members who were quoted as saying “Achebe should be allowed to chop Nigeria’s money for once”. “Some of us are ashamed that Prof’s family members are the ones betraying him, offering his corpse to government in return for favours,” the family source said. And then there’s the matter of the award he rejected, twice: A presidency source said the government has also offered to award a posthumous national honour to Mr. Achebe but it is not clear whether his family has acceded to the proposal. When the government offered Mr. Achebe a national honour of Commander of the Federal Republic, CFR, in 2004, he wrote to the administration rejecting it. “Nigeria’s condition today is, however, too dangerous for silence. I must register my disappointment and protest by declining to accept the high honour awarded me in the 2004 Honours List,” he wrote. He added, “I write this letter with a very heavy heart. For some time now I have watched events in Nigeria with alarm and dismay. I have watched particularly the chaos in my own state of Anambra where a small clique of renegades, openly boasting its connections in high places, seems determined to turn my homeland into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom. I am appalled by the brazenness of this clique and the silence, if not connivance, of the Presidency.” When the award was again offered him in 2011, he again turned it down, saying “The reasons for rejecting the offer when it was first made have not been addressed let alone solved.” Handing the Achebe Colloquium to government Sources close to the family also told PREMIUM TIMES that the Federal Government has also offered to henceforth fund the Achebe Colloquium, a festival of ideas convened annually since 2009 by the late writer to bring “together an international group of scholars, officials from African governments, the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and other organizations for two days of intense deliberation and exchange of ideas on the importance of strengthening democracy and peace on the African continent”. Critics say asking the Nigerian government to fund a gathering through which experts examine what is wrong with African countries and proffer solutions amounted “to asking the same governments considered rotten by Achebe to take charge.” “This is a huge betrayal of Achebe’s legacy,” an associate of the late novelist said. In all of this, the immediate family is keeping mum. The son, told the press that interviews will not be granted until after the burial. However, another family source – who begged anonymity – remarked that it is impossible to stop the goverment from participating in the burial because Achebe is an “ozu Nigeria” (a corpse belonging to Nigeria). “The family can’t stand in the way of government because Prof was a national figure,” he said. “He transcended local politics and anyone who wants to be helpful during his burial should be free to do so.” |
The search for the fruit of the womb has driven many women to take extreme steps. When women are unable to conceive and bear children, the huge psychological toll makes them fall prey to fraudulent people and patrons of ‘baby factories’. Desope Cecilia, 61, and Joy Ibe, 43, were among victims of a midwife, Oby George, who promised them ‘miracle’ twins and triplets respectively. While the midwife was being paraded before journalists at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on Friday, the victims told their stories, with faces covered for security reasons. Cecilia said she had not been able to give her 78-year-old husband a child since they got married. She stated, “A lady who knew I had tried to conceive without success for a long time, told me about the midwife (George). The lady gave me the phone number of the woman and I learnt her clinic is in Port Harcourt. “When I got there in March 2012, she explained to me that she would be able to treat me with herbs and I would get pregnant. I was told to pay N1.5m, which I paid to her. “She gave me some herbs to take back to Lagos with me and take for nine months. I took the herbs religiously. My tummy began to swell, and my feet too. Those were the only signs I had that made me think I was pregnant.” Cecilia explained that George forbade her from going for any form of ante-natal session or scan. So, within the nine-month period that her tummy protruded like that of a pregnant woman, she visited no hospital. “The midwife told me not to go for any scan or ante-natal care. She told me that if I did, they would not see anything because what I was carrying was a ‘miracle’ pregnancy,” she said. Asked if she ever saw any sign associated like lactation during the period, Cecillia said she never knew it was a fake pregnancy. “I thought it was normal. Since my belly was growing bigger and my feet swell up, I thought I was indeed pregnant,” she said. In her ninth month, Cecilia embarked on her delivery journey to the house used by George as clinic for her ‘miracle deliveries’ in Omiagbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. When she arrived the house, the midwife prepared her for delivery with another round of concoctions. “She also gave me a strange seed. I don’t know what it is called. When I chewed the seeds, I had to go to the toilet for bowel movement. She also gave me a drug that made me very tired. “I was laid on a bed after that. The midwife asked me to start pushing. I began to push really hard. I was half-conscious. Suddenly, I heard the cry of a baby, then another.” Cecilia said she left George’s clinic, thinking she had indeed been blessed with ‘miracle twins’. Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ngozi Braide, told journalists that on April 16, 2013, Cecilia took the twins for immunisation at the Amuwo Odofin Health Centre, Lagos. “But the medical officials at the centre were suspicious that Cecilia was not the biological mother of the twins. They then alerted the Area A Police Command. During investigation, she told the police that they were ‘miracle babies’. “Our men got the address of the midwife and went to Port Harcourt, where she was arrested. Investigation still continues to ensure we apprehend other members of her cartel. The twins are currently with the SOS Children’s Village, Isolo,” Braide said. Our correspondent learnt that the second victim (Ibe) was found in George’s house when the police got there. In Ibe’s case, she wanted triplets. For that, she had to pay N2.7m to George for the babies. Like Cecilia, Ibe was referred to George by a friend. She contacted the midwife few months after Cecilia did. “After I went to Port Harcourt to meet the midwife, I paid the N2.7m and I was given some herbs which I drank as concoction regularly. “My belly began to grow and my feet became swollen too. The midwife told me not to go to the hospital for scan or any ante- natal. I went to Port Harcourt to ask when I would be due for delivery. “She told me I was not due yet. Since it was too late to go back to Lagos, I slept over at her house. It was when I was there that police came to arrest her.” No one could have doubted that both Ibe and Cecilia were pregnant as both women appeared with swollen tummies and feet. George said her business was “helping women who want to get pregnant.” She told journalists, “I am 50 years old. I have been doing this business for over a year. In the case of the other woman (Cecilia) , I was not the one who provided the babies. “Helen Okoro, who introduced her to me, was the one who brought the twins and we made it look like she was the one who delivered them. It is true I collected N1.5m from her and N2.7m from the other woman. “The herb I give them was to induce the swollen tummies and feet. Helen Okoro has run away now.” But George dodged questions as she was being interviewed by journalists. When asked about the name of the herbs and seeds she gave to her customers, she replied, “I don’t know.” Asked how many of such women she had ever ‘delivered’, she answered, “I cannot remember.” Curiously, Cecilia said she was bleeding like a freshly delivered mother during her ‘delivery’. George provided a frightening insight into how this was made possible. “When we asked her to push, we used a blade to cut part of her private part, so that she would bleed,” she said. George denied knowledge of where the babies given to Cecilia came from. She said Okoro was responsible for that part of the deal. This case is coming on the heels of the recent discovery of some baby factories in Abia and Enugu recently. The police have yet to confirm if the babies involved in this case were bought from one of such factories. |
Believe it or not, many vitamins play a role in fat mobilization and can help you lose weight. Losing weight can sometimes be a frustrating process. You’ve probably hit some plateaus along the way and have struggled to achieve your ideal body weight. If you’re in a weight-loss valley, here are some fat-burning tips to help you reach the peaks. 1. ADD FIBER TO YOUR DIET Troubles with irregularity can definitely contribute to weight gain, but the solution is quite simple. By simply increasing the amount of dietary fiber in your diet, you will improve the health of your stomach and digestive tract. Some research also indicates that fiber has a positive effect on your metabolism. Fiber can be found in foods such as whole grains, fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and lean proteins, but the problem with fiber is that it is often difficult to get enough. To fix this problem, replace all of your simple carbs with fibrous ones and don’t look back. For example, if you regularly consume candy, replace it with fruit instead. And if you love sugary cereal in the morning for breakfast, replace it with oatmeal instead. 2. REPLACE CARBS WITH SPINACH If you’re looking for another reason to replace simple carbs in your diet with complex carbs and fibrous vegetables, look no further. Simple carbs can cause spikes in insulin, a fat-storing hormone that increases your appetite as well — a double whammy. But complex carbohydrates have the opposite effect, keeping insulin levels low, and they also control your appetite, due to the fact that they are very difficult to digest. 3. TAKE YOUR VITAMINS Believe it or not, many vitamins play a role in fat mobilization and can help you lose weight. Vitamin C is a great example, since it is needed for the production of several amino acids that aid in the fat-burning process. In addition to this, some studies have shown that vitamin D can increase the amount of fat burned by up to 50 percent. Both A and B vitamins play a critical role in keeping stress levels in check, which is important, since if your stress levels are high, your body will automatically go into fat-storing and muscle-burning mode — something you definitely don’t want. You don’t need anything fancy — just a basic multivitamin should work fine. 4. DRINK GREEN TEA Studies show that not only is green tea very high in antioxidants, but it can also increase your metabolism and make it much easier for your body to burn additional calories. 5. GET CAFFEINE AT THE RIGHT TIME In addition to green tea, consuming caffeine on a daily basis can help improve your fat- loss results by increasing your metabolism. Caffeine also acts as an appetite suppressant, working to control your cravings and making it easier to lose weight. Consuming caffeine before your workouts can also help you burn additional calories, so try drinking a cup of tea or coffee about 30 minutes before you hit the gym. It will give you the extra drive and focus needed to complete your workouts at full intensity. Taking these tips seriously and applying them into your life will definitely help your fat loss results. Good luck! |
Huh?! Student rushed to hospital with urine infection discovers she has FOUR kidneys A woman who underwent surgery on one of her kidneys was stunned to be told by doctors she had actually had four of them. Jessica Curphey, 20, was rushed to hospital after she developed excruciating pain on her right side. Just weeks earlier, her GP had diagnosed a urine infection, prescribing her antibiotics. But scans at Surrey’s St Helier Hospital revealed what doctors first thought was a 17cm cyst on her right kidney. Then 11 days later, further tests showed Jessica actually had two kidneys on her right side, the second of which was the ‘cyst’ –and was so damaged it would have to be removed. But during the operation, surgeons discovered yet another kidney, meaning Jessica had four and the ‘extremely rare’ privilege of having double the amount. After having the damaged kidney removed in June last year, Jessica is now raising money for Kidney Research UK. She said she had a lot to thank her housemate Steph for, who first rushed her to hospital. She said: ‘At first I didn’t know how to feel because I had been told so many things. ‘Now it’s quite fun watching how people react when you tell them that you’ve got an extra kidney. I suppose it’s weird not knowing what’s going on inside your body until something happens. ‘The upside of the whole thing is that I don’t get as bad hangovers as my friends, which is perhaps down to my extra kidneys. Overall I have come out of this as a stronger person. ‘It was a difficult experience but I was looked after and I’ve come through it the other end and looking forward to the future.’ Scans revealed she actually had four kidneys, one of which was so damaged it had to be surgically removed Consultant urological surgeon Robyn Webber said: ‘Having three kidneys on a single side of the body is exceptionally rare. There are perhaps fewer than 100 cases described in textbooks and papers.’ Jessica’s mother, Alison 45, raced down to Surrey from Manchester when she heard her daughter had been rushed to hospital. Alison said doctors drained more than 2,000ml of infected fluid from the damaged third kidney which was unable to drain because it was damaged. She said: ‘Jess had never been ill before this. Because this kidney was so badly stretched and damaged by the infection, the consultant urologist informed Jess that the only solution was to have it removed. ‘He said he would try to save the lower kidney but prepared her in case both of them had to be removed. ‘As you can imagine there were lots of tears all round but we were just thankful that they had managed to stop her going into septic shock.’ Jessica (right) with her best friend and housemate Steph Moorghen, https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/05/17/article-0-19D4A593000005DC-210_634x494.jpg who she credits with saving her life After the operation on June 11 Jessica made a full recovery and is looking forward to finding out her degree results. Alison said: ‘Jess was placed on the enhanced recovery programme and in true ‘Jess fashion’ she charmed and delighted everyone with her recovery. ‘The nurses called her “smiler”. Three days after having a major organ removed, she was discharged.’ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2326044/Student-rushed-hospital-suffering-extreme-pain-discovers-FOUR-kidneys.html |
