lionphil: Let me ask, where's Ibeto cement? Where's Elephant cement? Where are the cement companies that existed before Dangote? Aba has shoe factories, how many times has the government used or assisted them? Why are companies folding while others that have operated for years in Nigeria suddenly opted out? What about innoson motors? How many times has the government bought cars from him?
What you have currently is a government that has planned to impoverish the masses and it is working. "Ebi n pami" is the new slogan for the Yoruba folks.
You talk about building companies whereas your government is hell-bent on destroying them.
Make una dey read history, don't just come out to spew trash without looking at what's on ground.
As for my Biafra, a referendum will take place and it will emerge. You will witness it and you'll say someone told you before now.
Biafra is here Learn to read history... Chatgpt can also help you quickly answer questions. You are still missing the point because your mind is fixated on the belief you are hated. FYI, government doesn't owe anyone to patronize them. The role of government is to regulate the operations of companies. If you had some a little Google search, you would've seen the number of government agencies patronizing Innoson, including the military. I don't support any government - I just apply a bit of common sense - something most Nigerians l@ck. We didn't go to school just to grab a certificate; we went there to learn how the world works. If you refuse to learn after this chat, that's your call. When they start crying tomorrow about importation ban, I will just mind my business. This comment isn't necessarily for you. The significant fraction of diaspora remittance goes to real estate in the South East and hospitality. So, I want to focus on the real estate. I noticed that Nigerian real estate developers don't build to solve housing issues in Nigeria. They do so solely to make money from few elites in Nigeria and Nigerians in diaspora. Every day, rents keep skyrocketing, but salaries aren't increasing.
The government needs to step in and regulate that sector. Scott Iguma has been comparing some houses sold for billions of naira in Lagos with those sold elsewhere in the world. His comparison has been shocking. If these real estate people aren't checked now, we will end up having lots of unoccupied houses while the vast majority of Nigerians live in shacks and under flyovers. |

lionphil: One sided analysis... Importation kills an economy when the goods in that country can favourably compete with those from another country.
On another note, do you know that government keeps placing heavy taxes on imported products and these import duties give a lot of revenue to the government. Why do you think they don't want the ports in the east to be functional? They only keep creating new ports in LAGOS alone simply because the revenue being generated is out of this world and a huge chunk of it goes to Tinubu.
Don't worry all that is about to end. I'm here to give you the good news that *Biafra is here!* Why imported goods tend to be cheaper than locally manufactured goods is that the countries they were imported from already have infrastructure that supports production. Instead of people to build infrastructure that don't exist here, they would rather import finished goods. When a government slams a ban on importation, they'll become jobless and start wailing. Importation kills local economy as you send your money to a foreign country to support their growth. Dangote builds his seaport, pipelines, trucks, power station and other things that he needs but do not exist in Nigeria. Instead of our people pulling their money together to achieve the same thing, they would rather import and even brag about importation. I just dey laugh una. You people hate to learn. When it starts happening, you will start wailing that you are hated. That's why I don't even take you seriously. As for that Biafra, you must be a child. |

Putindbutt: Guy, you need both Education and exposure. There will always be physical structures or market to display your goods or wares but what has been revolutionized is how internet has helped expand the reach to millions of clients at a go. You can reach lots of followers or prospective consumers from all walks of life on e-commerce than sitting down at Alaba market waiting for costumers to walk in. And if you're not aware, the 2by2 traders have seen a great reduction in customers patronage. This has forced some of them to embrace the new trend and having presence online, unfortunately, lots of them are illiterates who are not internet savvy hence they still operate the old system of selling their goods. Receive sense! There's no sense to receive because you aren't making any of it. Many years ago, if you went to Idumota market, you would see many stores selling DVD disks. Today, if you go to the same market, you would hardly see them because everything has gone digital. If those guys who have those physical stores don't make money, nobody would be opening such stores. FYI, many people still prefer buying from those they see and know than buying online and dealing with what was ordered Vs what was received. Besides, many items you buy on e-commerce stores in Nigeria come from those guys. |

3. And the BIG ONE IS HUGE GAS DEPOSIT ( the future of energy). We have 70% of Nigeria's 210 trillion ctf reserve gas deposit.

No greater empty barrel on earth than those lot. Your obsession with VAT is that all companies have their head offices in Lagos even though their major operational bases are in SS and SE. They paid VAT from their head offices while they use others for extracting raw materials. Imo State, for instance, has 7 major oil companies and all of them have head offices in Lagos and Abuja..not one has a kiosk in Owerri. Wait until this country is restructured. We will give them terms and conditions for extracting oil and gas from our state. For now, Lagos can be enjoying the VAT while laptop boys are all over social media insulting us. |

Be doing lizard pressups. The biggest contributors in economy anywhere in the world are the so-called petty traders, including the United States. Igbos don't have to be on Forbes because our wealth is spread across our people, not one Alhaji acquiring everything and giving others peanuts as seen in the South West and North. In fact, most of the wealthy folks in the SW and north are people who became wealthy from corrupt government financing. No Nigerian will ever be poor if they can get the kinds of support that those folks enjoy from the government. That's why the north and SW wouldn't mind playing politics with their people's lives just to hold key positions in government because they largely depend on government largasse to thrive. |

Do you know how much the government makes from import duties? Do you know the number of importers from southeast that contribute to import duties? Elementary economics teaches us that importation kills an economy and exportation improves the economy. I'm shocked that people who attended universities (I could be wrong about this) are bragging about importation in 2025. If one government comes in power and blocks the importation of certain commodities and items, you will say that you are being targeted and victimized. If you like learn. If you like keep arguing baselessly. What I did in the comment you quoted is called constructive criticism. |

Politics › Re: Hausa Lady Asks Igbos: “what Is Your Economic Usefulness To Nigeria?” by ImpartialGuy: 11:25am On Nov 08, 2025 |
franchasng: She is young, naive and ignorant that's why she would ask such baseless question based on decadelong lies his political elites and Yoruba political media of the old sold to uninformed Nigerians like her.
Let me educate her a bit.
During Biafra Nigeria civil war, Biafra government explored and refined crude oil locally in some communities in Imo state and also tried seizing the oil fields in Bayelsa and Rivers.
I am very much aware based on insider information from a close relative working with NNPC who also worked with Agip exploration department before joining NNPC that there are crude oil sites which were intentionally abandoned in Imo and Abia states while the same NNPC spent billions exploring crude oil in Chad Basin .
The reason they abandoned those large crude oil sites in some Imo and Abia communities is to sabotage Southeast economy and to justify their claim that Southeast is barren and contributes next to nothing to Nigeria's crude oil resources revenue so that Igbos won't start using it to threaten Nigeria for another secession.
Before this, during state creations, Northern and Southwest Heads of states that created states made sure there were bias boundary adjustments that made sure oil rich communities in Imo state were removed from Imo state and placed in Rivers state just to strip Southeast of having any crude oil community. This led to some Ohaji Egbema Igbo people of Imo state being in Rivers state while their next compound relative is in Imo state. This is what happened to former IG of Police of Nigeria who later contested for Ohanaeze Ndigbo; the man stated that some of his family members are in Imo state while some in Rivers, so they usually interchange their state of origin depending on what they stand to benefit.
Also ask yourself why Cross River state that is geopolitically located in Southeast intentionally placed in SouthSouth, it was also to sabotage Igbos economically by making sure Igbos don't have any access to sea to own a seaport. These were all designed by Britain and handed over to Hausa-Fulanis and their Yoruba collaborators after the civil war to make sure Igbos never rise again to make attempt to secede or divide Nigeria.
But people like Olusegun Obasanjo, T.Y. Danjuma who were privy to these wicked plans against Igbos saw that it was inhumane as they are approaching old age and want to correct their past mistakes of aligning with the British and Hausa-Fulani evil machinations against Igbos, reason they all supported Peter Obi in 2023 to erode their roles in the past against Igbos but still the young people from North and mostly Southwest are continuing in that evil agenda against Igbos thinking it would make them cool and superior even when their aging elites who participated in that are trying so hard to distant themselves from their past mistakes, time will tell.
So to the naive Hausa lady, my dear, Southeast will become the richest region if Nigeria breaks up because there are countless large crude oil sites in Southeast intentionally abandoned by Nigeria's bias federal government to punish Igbos, so if Nigeria breaks up, you guys will see some surprises.
Also remember that natural gas is the next gold mine of the world and majority of Nigeria's natural gas deposit is located in Southeast.
Also ask yourselves this question: is it possible for Imo state, Abia and Anambra states communities separated by very thin line borders to not have as much crude oil deposits with Rivers and Delta their next door neighbors? It's all a planned sabotage against Igbos and Southeast handed over to Northern Nigeria by the evil British government.
So make una relax.
I don't want to talk about Igbos controlling Nigeria's trade and commerce, I intentionally focused on mineral and natural resources which are what Nigerians see as the main thing that makes a region important forgetting that human capital development which Igbos happens to be the number or at par with the Yorubas is the biggest value any nation can boast of.
Una go de alright last last This is how people fail exams and blame their lecturers for it. How did this lengthy thing answer her question? Questions like this are answered with stas and numbers because data doesn't lie. It has nothing to do with the civil war stories. BTW, I understand that many Igbos carry a lot of hurt due to the civil war. However, you must learn to question everything you were told. If NNPC refused to drill crude oil in Imo and Abia to keep the South East economy unproductive, why is the same NNPC investing millions of dollars in a JV with Seplat to build the biggest gas company in Nigeria, ANOH Gas plant, in Imo State? By the way, I am a proud Igbo guy, but questions like this should be answered with 13% derivative sharing formula data to show states whose petrollars are used to feed the entire country. |

mmadu4: useless man i used to think this man has sense . RhinoChest: While I agree that protecting local refineries is important, what happens if the Dangote refinery breaks down, requires repairs, or faces supply disruptions? A proactive government should maintain strategic reserves of PMS, aviation fuel, diesel, and other essential fuels—stored in silos or depots—sufficient to last at least six months to a year. You won’t want supply disruption around election year, so work with NNPC to build strategic reserves across Nigeria That tax will discourage imports and encourage local production. At this point, Nigeria should've made a law that bans companies from consistently importing things we can manufacture locally for more than 15 years. If you cannot produce it locally, shut down the damn company. That's the bold step Dangote is taking and everyone must emulate him. It seems you missed the basic part of economics that teaches how importation kills local economies. |
