The appointment is sectional. Do we only have three tribes in Nigeria? The major riverine people whose resources are being shared among the 36 state including the FCT are not always included in his appointment. But why? This country Sha! Nepotism, tribalism andcorruption everywhere |

Petrol Prices Without Taxes Spain = 246.9 Naira per litre. USA = 403.3 Naira per litre. UK = 330.6 Naira per litre. Germany = 330.6 Naira per litre. France = 335.7 Naira per litre. Nigeria = 500 to 600 Naira per litre. Minimum Wages Spain = 535559 Naira per month. USA = 535340 Naira per month. UK = 955876 Naira per month. Germany = 947618 Naira per month. France = 866241 Naira per month. Nigeria = 30000 Naira per month So, when next somebody tells you that fuel subsidy is not sustainable, try asking him or her what is the minimum wage of Nigeria civil servants? Until this issue is probably addressed, average Nigerian will suffer the adverse heat of this fuel subsidy removal for many years to come. Happy New month |
Nigeria which way a country at war with it's citizen. How on earth a country blessed with crude oil not able to refine it and will first of all export the crude oil and import that same refine product to the country. Everyone is talking about industrialization ie manufacturing as part of the industrialization. If fractional distillation one of the simplest seperation technique for separating crude oil into the different constituents, then how would they able to manufacture products that requires sophisticated technology. Nigeria is just a joke. It's like, the people are not capable of governing themselves. The government is taking about shortage of forex, why can't they refine the crude oil and export same to the Africa countries to generate the needed forex to stabilize the value of the naira against the Dollar. Now the government is relying on Dangote to refine crude oil and supply the country, thereby monopolizing the sector in the hand of one man. Oh Nigeria! Who do us! Where do we carry these billions upon billions to after life on earth. NNPC will export the crude and supply it to the companies they have stake on as individuals and then they will import it to the country and will still collect subsidy on top of that. Who really do the black people? Is it that the black people don't like good things or really the devil is a black man? That the black man is happy when his fellow man or woman is suffering? What kind of people are the black people? Oh God help the black race to be able to distinguish between good and evil so that the black nations can progress Nigerians don't really know what is ahead of them. The multiplier effect on transportation and prices of goods and services will be enormous...... Just my little reaction to the ongoing ill-conceived and advised policy implementation of the the new government. National disaster, Shame and embarrassment to the black nations without any plan whatsoever. Pls share your views |

KEEP A DATE 11TH MATCH 2023 The electoral reform and the need of the hour should be a reminder to everyone of us that our country electoral system is gradually getting to maturity and as such whenever position you occupy always remember that you are representing people and do the things that will bring benefits to your people and not to take people for granted and to be remembered on the eve of elections. That cannot work and it won't work in this political dispensation In this era of electoral reform, you have one vote likewise me. So the people voice matters most as never before. It's not as usual. The next four years election will be more decisive than this as more youths and women, and the government intending to conduct a credible election will improve more on the electoral system. So if you are a leader / aspiring leader lead well. Your followers are watching, the electorates are watching and finally the people are watching. Enough is enough for the wise them say I. S. Government induced famine in the land The hunger induced by the CBN policy indicates that from all indices the country is not yet ripe for cashless policy. If the urban cities with the various network arsenal could not cope with the policy, how then would the rural dwellers with less or no network at all cope? That brings us to the question of the quality of services provided by the network provider. All things being equal, financial transactions using the services of the various network provider supposed to fast, smooth and successfull for any transfer in the urban cities across the country but that was not the case at all across the nation. This aught not to be so. If the distribution of the New naira note is not circulating as expected, then it will be a wise decision for the CBN to allow the old naira note to go hand in hand with the new naira note until it is faced out. Else it will be right to say that the government of the day deceived it citizens to deposit all their money in the banks with a promise of new naira note in exchange to induce national famine that is not caused by natural disasters. But the questions is, can a government deceive it's own citizens? That is what you are to found out on the coming days, weeks and months ahead! |
Biden says Putin ‘cannot remain in power’ in sweeping speech on Russian invasion of Ukraine https://www.cnbc.com/2022/03/26/biden-says-putin-cannot-remain-in-power-in-sweeping-speech-on-russian-invasion-of-ukraine.html KEY POINTS President Joe Biden said Russian leader Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power” over his invasion of Ukraine. In a sweeping speech in Poland that marked the finale of a three-day trip to Europe, Biden urged democracies around the world to unify and commit to a long fight against authoritarian aggression. President Joe Biden on Saturday said Russian leader Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power,” ratcheting up international pressure and further uniting NATO allies against Putin over his invasion of Ukraine. “A dictator, bent on rebuilding an empire, will never erase the people’s love for liberty,” Biden said at the end of a sweeping speech in Poland. “Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia, for free people refuse to live in a world of hopelessness and darkness.” For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power,” Biden said. Biden has hurled invective at Putin throughout the crisis in Ukraine, labeling him a “murderous dictator” and a “war criminal,” but has previously stopped short of calling for his removal from power. Later Saturday, a White House official attempted to clarify that Biden “was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change,” but rather was making the point that Putin “cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region.” The president’s address at the Royal Castle in Warsaw marked the grand finale of a three-day trip to Europe. While in Poland, Biden met with Ukrainian refugees who had fled Russian aggression, as well as with U.S. troops stationed in Rzeszow, near Ukraine’s border. In his speech, Biden urged democracies around the world to unify against Russia and commit to a historic battle against authoritarian aggression. “In this battle, we need to be clear-eyed,” he said. “We need to steel ourselves for the long fight ahead.” Biden directly and repeatedly condemned Putin throughout the speech, accusing the Russian president of “using brute force and disinformation to satisfy a craving for absolute power and control.” Biden slammed Putin for invoking Nazi imagery as a pretext for an invasion, calling it an “obscene” lie. And he said it is “Putin who is to blame” for the mountain of international sanctions that are crushing Russia’s economy and its currency, noting that the Russian ruble has been reduced to “rubble.” Biden also spoke past Putin, attempting to deliver an appeal to whichever Russian citizens may be able to hear the speech. “This is not the future you deserve for your families and children,” Biden said. “I’m telling you the truth, this war is not worthy of you, the Russian people.” Biden’s message to Ukraine was more direct: “We stand with you. Period.” |

How we made Nigeria top 10 most improved world economies — Lai Mohammed - https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/03/how-we-made-nigeria-top-10-most-improved-world-economies-lai-mohammed/ The Federal Government has said the Presidential implementation of over 150 Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, reforms was responsible for moving Nigeria up 39 places on the World Bank Doing Business Index since 2016. It also said the implementation made it possible for Nigeria, being twice named as one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world over the last three years, to be one of only two African countries to make this highly-prestigious list in 2019. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who disclosed this during a visit to the IshK Tolaram Foundation in Lagos, yesterday, said: “To understand the significance of Nigeria moving up in the World Bank Doing Business Index, we have to recall that between 2007 and 2015, Nigeria lost 64 places in the World Bank ease of doing business ranking.” He said as a result of the reforms, the 2018 Sub-national Doing Business report on Nigeria recorded unprecedented improvement, adding that the World Economic Forum, WEF, in its 2018 Global Competitive Report, recognised Nigeria’s business environment as one of the most entrepreneurial in the world, and highlighted Nigeria’s improved competitiveness in enabling business environment. He also said the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020, CAMA 2020, signed by President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s most significant business legislation in three decades, introduced at least 15 new provisions that promoted ease of doing business and reduce regulatory hurdles in Nigeria. The minister said PEBEC also collaborated with the National Assembly on the Secured Transaction in Movable Asset Act, STMA, 2017 and the Credit Reporting Act, 2017, which provides a legal framework for collateralization of moveable assets with the creation of the National Collateral Registry, while CRA 2017 enhances credit reporting in Nigeria. “The creation of a National Collateral Registry, NCR, of movable assets by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, with the support of the International Financial Corporation , IFC, in May 2016 ensures that functional equivalents of collaterals can be registered. To date, over N1 trillion assets have been uploaded on the Registry,” he said. Other reforms listed by the minister include visa on arrival for business people, reduction in the time it takes to register a company at the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, through the Company Registration Portal, CRP, from about two weeks to just a few days and the introduction of the electronic filing and payment of federal taxes. Mohammed commended the IshK Tolaram Foundation for its programmes in Nigeria, especially in the areas of healthcare, entrepreneurial and vocational training, saying the artificial limbs provided free of charge had inspired hope for the beneficiaries. He said: “I am reliably informed that the Foundation, through its IshK Limb Centres in Lagos and Port Harcourt, and mobile camps, has provided more than 19,000 free prosthetic limbs. “I am also aware that 242 students have graduated from the Foundation’s vocational skills training programme, while 157 have started earning their livelihood through jobs and start-ups. This is quite impressive and I congratulate the IshK Foundation for this feat.’’ The Programme Director of ISHK Foundation, Ms. Neha Mehra, who conducted the minister round the Lagos centre, said the foundation, which is funded with 25 per cent of the profit from the Tolaram Group, was set up as the next step in a 100-year history of philanthropy at Tolaram. She said the Foundation partners with churches, mosques, hospitals and NGOs to identify and support people requiring artificial limbs free of charge. Some of the beneficiaries of the Foundation’s activities were on hand to brief the minister on how the quality of their lives had been enhanced by such activities. |
The Times of Israel: ‘This might be the last time you see me alive,’ Zelensky warns EU leaders https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/this-might-be-the-last-time-you-see-me-alive-zelensky-warns-eu-leaders/ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told EU leaders on a conference call late last night that “this might be the last time you see me alive,” a European diplomat briefed on the conversation tells the Walla news site. The diplomat says Zelensky urged EU leaders to take further steps against Russia and that the meeting ended with a decision to impose additional sanctions against Moscow. Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi who was on the call tells his parliament this morning that Zelensky is currently in hiding in Kyiv. “We were supposed to talk on the phone this morning, but he was no longer available,” Draghi says Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson, who was also on last night’s call, confirms Walla’s report, telling the Swedish News Agency that “this may have been the last time we saw Zelensky.” |
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/03/electricity-crisis-three-reasons-nigeria-is-in-darkness-barth-nnaji-former-power-minister/ Nigerians have been experiencing poor electricity supply and development challenges because the country still needs to fix three major things in that critical sector, a former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, told Prime Business Africa in Enugu. Nnaji, now the Chief Executive Officer of Geometric Power, said the three planks of the multi-faceted problem are: Lack of gas supply for existing plants, dilapidated or inadequate transmission and distribution infrastructure as well as ‘man-made’ disruptions along the power supply value chain. Nnaji, who spoke to Prime Business Africa in his Enugu residence, said: “The problem of power supply in Nigeria is multi-faceted. In the power sector, we have generation, transmission and distribution. There are various issues along the value chain of power supply. The fuel (gas) supply is not adequate yet. “There are issues of vandalism of gas pipelines which has grave effects on power generation.” Nigeria has plans to generate 30,000 megawatts by 2030 with 3,000 megawatts coming from renewable energy sources and 27,000 megawatts from power plants. Actualizing this goal, however, remains a big challenge, as, according to Nnaji, the country has an installed power supply capacity close to 13, 000 megawatts, but only able to output 5, 000 megawatts due to various constraints. “Nigeria has an installed power supply capacity close to 13, 000 megawatts on grid but 7, 000 megawatts available for supply, available because the generating system is available for supply. “However, our capacity to actually boost the power on grid is about 5, 000 megawatts. “This means that two types of constraints make it impossible for us to put 7, 000 megawatts on grid, one of which is the gas supply, but mainly the transmission infrastructure. “The transmission infrastructure makes it difficult for power to be supplied. And that’s a serious problem. “Coming to distribution aspect, the infrastructure is dilapidated. “There is also human factor problem on distribution such as connection inefficiencies, leakages, people stealing power, and all kinds of things done by people that make it difficult for efficient distribution, and also, the distribution companies themselves who are not investing in infrastructure which brings about inability to supply power.” Nnaji compared Nigeria with Brazil in terms of population and said that if the country aspires to become a mid-level economy, it needs to produce up to 100, 000 megawatts or more, which Brazil produces. “I like to think of we paring ourselves against Brazil. It is a comparable country in terms of population. We aspire to be a mid-level economy. “If we are going to be a mid-level economy, then we should clearly be talking about having the sort of power supply that Brazil has, which is over 100, 000 megawatts. If we are going to have 100, 000 megawatts of power supply, then we need to have transmission lines to match that capacity, but we don’t have it”. |
https://bigthink.com/hard-science/china-moon-cotton/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1647634000 It marks the first time a plant has been grown on the moon. Image source: Chongqing University 3D reconstruction of a cotton plant KEY TAKEAWAYS In January, China became the first nation to land a spacecraft on the far side of the moon. Chang'e-4 lunar rover carried among its payload a small biosphere that housed six lifeforms, including cotton seeds. Using data from that biosphere experiment, researchers constructed a digital image of the cotton plant that reveals it grew two leaves before dying from the cold. In January, China made history when it landed its Chang’e-4 spacecraft on the far side of the moon. The mission was also the first to experiment with growing plants on the moon, and it brought to the lunar surface a mini-biosphere called the Lunar Micro Ecosystem (LME). The conditions within this small, cylindrical biosphere were similar to those on Earth, besides the microgravity and cosmic radiation. The LME contained: potato seeds cotton seeds rapeseeds yeast fruit fly eggs Arabidopsis thaliana, a common weed All of these died quickly, except the cotton. Now, a new 3D reconstruction shows that the cotton plant grew not one, but two leaves before dying due to the cold temperatures after about two weeks. The results suggest that the experiment was slightly more successful than initially thought. The leader of China’s experiment, Xie Gengxin of the advanced Technology Research Institute at Chongqing University, doesn’t plan to publish any scientific papers based on this research. But he hopes to continue studying how various lifeforms might be able to survive on the moon. WHY NASA WANTS TO GROW PLANTS IN SPACE Learning how to reliably grow plants in space is necessary if NASA or other space agencies want to launch long-term missions. “Simply packing some multi-vitamins will not be enough to keep astronauts healthy as they explore deep space,” NASA wrote in April. “They will need fresh produce.” Why? Some reasons are logistical. For example, the nutrients in supplements and prepared meals will break down over time, and radiation could accelerate that process. So, growing fresh produce would give astronauts access to fresher nutrients, not to mention better tasting food. Also, if astronauts could grow plants on spaceships, they wouldn’t have to carry as much prepared food onboard. But there are also psychological benefits to growing plants in space. “We already know from our pioneering astronauts that fresh flowers and gardens on the International Space Station create a beautiful atmosphere and let us take a little piece of Earth with us on our journeys,” NASA wrote. “They’re good for our psychological well-being on Earth and in space.” NASA is also interested in making dining in space a pleasant experience for astronauts. For example, the agency has packed comfort food and holiday meals on recent missions, and has conducted research on astronauts’ preference for communal versus solo dining, as well as whether they benefit from cooking food themselves. Other researchers are exploring how space dining can fulfill astronauts’ emotional needs, and also how to counteract phenomenon specific to space travel, such as the loss of the sense of smell. “At the end of the day, we’re not worried about the muscle cells,” NASA nutritionist Scott Smith told Eater. “We’re worried about the human.” |
https://www.channelstv.com/2022/03/17/just-in-efcc-arrests-willie-obiano-at-lagos-airport/ The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday arrested former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos. Obiano, who has been on the Commission’s watchlist for months, was arrested at about 8.30pm. He was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo. Channels Television had reported last November how the EFCC had placed Mr Obiano on a watchlist. The EFCC had requested the Nigeria Immigration Service to inform it anytime the Governor is travelling out of the country from any of the international airports, as well as other points of entry and exit. It is, however, not yet clear why the anti-graft agency placed the governor on a watchlist. Sources told Channels Television that the move was an indication that the agency may have been discreetly investigating the governor and possibly have intelligence that he was planning to escape after handing over power to his successor, Professor Charles Soludo, on March 16, 2022. Former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Don Adinuba, had, at the time, condemned the EFCC watchlist reports, claiming that they were politically motivated. Governor Obiano has a whole four months to remain in office as the Anambra State chief executive,” Adinuba said. “Nobody in Nigeria can circumscribe his constitutionally conferred immunity which shields him from both criminal and civil prosecution. “The EFCC went too far to announce in November that it is observing him. We are not aware of any state governor who had up to four months to be in office and the EFCC went on to sponsor media reports that he was being investigated.” |

NATO's decision to not close the sky over Ukraine is correct. A shooting war between Russia and NATO should be avoided as much as possible and the way the US has been evading that confrontation is simply the right thing to do.If you think it is cowardice, it is because you don't know and this post will brief you. Let me set it out in a very brief way. There are three types of wars: 1. Conventional war - which is fought according to the rules of war: Don't kill civilians and children, don't hit civilian infrastructure, don't shoot surrendering enemy soldiers and PoWs, etc. 2. Total war - which Russia seems to be fighting in Ukraine right now and which it fought against Chechnya in Grozny. In a total war, you just kill everybody you see and destroy everything on your way. 3. Nuclear war. On a normal day, Russia will fall quickly of NATO engages it in a conventional or a total war and Putin has admitted that much in a speech recently. There is no contest in that. NATO's firepower is extensive and its generals are top level. However, the mismatch will force Russia to quickly resort to 'final-solution' tactics while it can - it will launch its arsenal of nuclear weapons. Lets be quickly reminded that since the 1970s, both the West and Russia have thousands of nuclear tipped missiles already programmed to hit targets in all major cities on each other's soil. With just the press of a button, those missiles will fly out and head for their targets. But there are difficulties. Both sides have watchmen that are not sleeping. Every inch of Russian territory is under a 24/7 scan for missile launch by the West, using flare and heat detection satellites. Russia has the same system. The moment a rocket motor ignites (most missiles are powered by rocket motors. Cruise missiles use air-breathing jet engines - pretty much the same used by aeroplanes, but they could be ramjets or jets with afterburners. Cruise missiles are usually called precision guided weapons), they know in the West. These missile scouts will start to track the missile or missiles and note their number, velocity and heading. They have about 10 minutes to confirm and reconfirm that missiles are being launched against the West. In this case they will mostly be ICBMs (Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles). Well, despite the heavy name, they are actually simple orbital rockets that can get into orbit and then re-enter the earth at the appropriate location - above their targets. At this point, they will release their thermonuclear warheads or bombs (all modern nuclear bombs carry thermonuclear warheads, that is, warheads that uses a small hydrogen bomb to initiate a chain reaction in its main fission bomb of Plutonium or Uranium). These warheads are shaped like cones and they are about 1.2m in height with a base diameter of about 800mm. The real active ingredient, Uranium or Plutonium inside the conical device is not bigger than a football but they are packed with the horrendous power of creation itself, the power of the nucleus of an atom called the Strong Force. Two things will then happen in line with strictly established procedures it call it Battle Order. Once a missile attack is detected, the US will immediately move it's president, his family, Pentagon chiefs and a few citizens into a bunker that is about 2 kilometers below the ground and under a mountain. It is suspended upon springs so it can withstand tectonic forces from a nuclear blast on the surface. The bunker contains provisions for two years to sustain the occupants. (I have seen the image somewhere about 25 years ago in maybe Times Magazine). Reporters taken there were blindfolded and flown for hours so they will not have a clear sense of direction. The location is totally secret but it is suspected that it is Nevada. It was not dug out directly but a lateral tunnel was created several miles away to this subterranean site. 1. The West will launch countermeasures at these warheads. (Usually, they will be 13 to 17 on each ICBM and at this stage, they are in their terminal altitude in space). This is the threat level the American THAAD anti-missile system is designed to contain. It will fly into space and try to steer kill vehicles into those warheads and of course, the success rate will understandably only be partial. Some will end up successfully re-entering the earth and dive (under zero power) for their targets. At this point, the Patriot system will come into action and try to swat the warheads. The Patriot complex deals with missiles within the atmosphere. 2. Simultaneously NATO will give orders for its own missile launches and within minutes, you will see missiles rise from silos and from submarines heading East to attack preset targets. B-52s ('Stratofortress'), B1, ('Spirit') and B2 ('Bones') -all long range bombers will take off from the US, Germany and probably Japan armed with hydrogen and Plutonium bombs and head for Russia. There are also about 1,500 nuclear weapons on each side that are currently in the field, mingled with conventional weapons but known to commanders. Those are probably the most dangerous of all these arsenal of nuclear weapons because they are already and permanently dispersed in the field. All - everything will be launched within just about 30 minutes in this make or break final combat. Everything described above from the moment one side launches its nuclear weapons will not take more than 45 to 60 minutes and it is all over. If the attack takes place at night, right here in Nigeria, if you look northwest towards Europe or east northwest towards the United States, or northeast towards Russia, you will actually see a dull glow in your night sky though you won't hear the thunder of the explosions. The next three days or even a week will be normal although wind patterns may have become suspect. Thereafter, you will observe that the sky is getting darker and midday seems like dusk. That is the cloud of a global thermonuclear warfare. The sun will be screened out for months and plants will die off. This will lead to global famine, first step. Of course, global trade is already gone and the world has reverted to primitive levels. The Internet is no more and telephone services have become epileptic. Next will come the global outbreak of all forms of cancers from radiation carried around the world by the cloud earlier described. Death will become so much more desirable than life that those alive will curse their lot. There will be survivors of course: those who have been hidden away in military grade silos and have ample supplies to carry them for about two years. Those who just manage to go through about three years of life as foragers and scavengers and somehow have not been killed by skin cancer, blood cancer and other forms of metastasis. They are the ones that will populate the new world and begin to try to establish a new civilization. Now you have an idea why NATO keeps avoiding fighting with Russia. It is simply to keep YOU alive. |
The refusal by Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa’s led Delta State Government to respond promptly or lead in the effort to rehabilitate the people of Polobubo/Opuama Communities in Warri North Local Government Area, ravaged by oil spill from pipeline facility managed by the NPDC/ELCRES, in the early hours of Sunday, March 14, 2021, has become the latest prove of neglect, betrayal and abandonment of a people that they (state Government) supposed to protect. Oil spill in Opuama and communities Making this particular spill a reality to worry about is that among many others, this latest spillage is coming few weeks after a similar one occurred in Benikrukru, Kokodiagbene, Oporoza and other communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of the state, this time around involving the pipeline owned and managed by Chevron Nigeria Limited. While no death was recorded, the incident however led to many of the community dwellers being hospitalized as result of the shock and pollution. Chevron on its part added to the pains of the victims/communities with their persistent denial of such occurrence. In the face of all these happenings, Governor Okowa’s led administration for yet to be identified reason(s) allowed the oil major to hand twist the helpless and hapless community dwellers. Today, the above attitude that which bothers on Delta State Government lackadaisical and nonchalant attitude to the plight of average coastal dwellers – and inability of regulators in the state to go extra miles to ensure compliance in their operations is being replicated in the case of Polobubo/Opuama Communities. Benikrukru Community oil spillage As the world watches in ‘awe’ at the people of the communities count their loses over the occurrence that reportedly left one Pa Anthony Ebiogbo of Opuama community dead with many others battling for survival, there are in fact major reasons that made the state government culpable and their management of the occurrence a very painful episode. First, the Government in the state cannot in any ways claim ignorance of the spillage as they were promptly alerted via a press statement made available in Polobubo by one Mr. Toruwei, a community leader, which GbaramatuVoice, as a responsive and responsible media organization operating in the Niger Delta region, promptly reported. Regrettably, on Wednesday March 17, 2021, the House of Assembly Member Representing Warri North in the Delta House of Assembly, Hon. Alfred Martins; Commissioner for Oil and Gas in the state, Hon. Emmanuel Amgbaduba and Chairman, Warri North Local Government Council, Hon. Smart Asekutu, visited Polobubo/Opuama Communities. But their visits could best be described as unceremonious and an insult to the sensibility of the victims and the communities. As they (Government Officials) neither came with words of hope/consolation nor relief materials for the victims of the spillages. This abandonment of the communities in their hour of need by the state government has necessitated the following questions; what is the role/responsibility of the Delta State Ministry of Environment if not to act in a period such as this? Where are the officials of the State Environmental Protection Agency? What is the usefulness of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) if not to intervene in issues such as this as well as development of holistic roadmap for the development of the Oil Producing areas in the state? What is the state Government doing with the 13% derivation accruable to the state if not to handle such occurrences? Why the state government can’t hold the oil company accountable? And most importantly, Why must the state have to wait for the Federal Government agencies before it can save its people? To further add insight to our earlier claim that the incident was promptly reported, it was stated in that publication that Mr. Toruwei, the community leader, narrated how major pipeline transporting crude oil from Opuama flow station in Oil Mining Lease (OML 40) ruptured, resulting to spillage of oil into the water and swamp forest in the operational area which includes Opuama, Polobubo and their bloc/satellite communities. “As I speak, economic activities have been grounded, as a matter of fact, throughout Sunday, March 14, 2021; residents could not cook their food for fear of fire outbreak as a result of gas gushing out from the said pipeline that enveloped the whole vicinity.” There are so many other facts that point to how the state government failed the people of the communities. The communities called the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Okowa to prevail on the management of NPDC/ELCREST to swing into action and take remedial actions by containing the further spread of the spillage. Yet, nothing was heard from the state government. In the same vein, they (affected communities) also pleaded that the state provides medical care, food, water and other necessities in order to save the lives of residents that have been denied their sources of livelihood.” Instead of responding to these requests by the affected communities, the state government was particularly more interested in protecting the interest of the oil companies. Sadly, it will interest Governor Okowa’s led state government to know that the Oil Giant which they are protecting and which earlier denied spillage of any form in the Gbaramatu kingdom, has since gone behind to seek remedies. From this spiraling awareness, if not wickedness, what else can the watching world call the state government’s abandonment of the people of Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms in this trying moment of theirs? In the final analysis, there is no difference between the state government and their federal counterpart. In fact, it appears the state under the present administration is getting worse than the Federal Government when it comes to neglecting its people. |
Is Nigeria an Oil Producing Country or an Importing Country? The question will be answered in the course of my discussions. Nigeria produces oil and sell same to other nations without plan for local consumption which in itself is bad. Some of the products from Petroleum include: FUEL Butane Diesel fuel Fuel oil Gasoline Kerosene Liquefied natural gas Liquefied petroleum gas OTHER PRODUCTS Microcrystalline wax Napalm Naphtha Naphthalene Paraffin wax Petroleum jelly Petroleum wax Refined asphalt Refined bitumen Etc Now you sell the many products in one at a lower cost and you went and bought individual products from the same nations you are selling the "all in one" to at a higher cost and begin to sell for your people in the local market at a high cost. Now, increase in the price of crude oil in the international market supposed to be a thing of joy and blessings to our country, because it means more money to the government for economic and developmental activities but the revise is the case. The higher it becomes, the higher the price of petroleum products in our supposed oil Producing Country. In other words, citizens will prefer our crude oil prices in the international market to remain low. Because, the lower it is in the international market, the lower the price in the local market in the country. The foreign price determine the local price. It therefore means that Nigeria is an oil Producing Country by mouth but in reality, it is an oil importing country. THE WAY FORWARD Not benefitting to the fullest from what you produce is an evil in itself. God Almighty will not be happy with you especially, self imposed deprivations. The way forward is therefore to critically look inward of how the crude oil Products could be made available for local consumption. This can be done by looking at the local technology in refining the crude oil. Once this is done, the government should come up with a road map of the accepted standard in the local technology and adopt same and provide regulations in the sector. And also constantly carrying out research on a better ways, it can be done. This will provide employment opportunities for the teaming youths, reduces crime, provide revenue for the government and make the Products available and affordable in the country. Using billions of naira in refurbishing or repairing outdated refineries is not the solution to the problem. Over the years billions and trillions of naira have been spent on the refineries but nothing to show for it. At the end, the country still imports refined Products. Nigeria is its own problem. Balogunodua:You sounds like persons who do not make findings before talking or posting. I'm Ijaw from Ogbinbiri, Egbema Kingdom (ward 9). I'm telling you the reality on ground, you are there saying no Ijaws in Warri North. Next time before you make any statement or post try to make some research so that you will be abreast with the situation binder discourse. |
Enudapan:Point of corrections. Warri North comprises of Itsekiris and the Ijaws. The Itsekiris have been producing the local govt chairman, House o Assembly members and commissioner for the state since 1991 when it was created. The Ijaws have only been vice local govt Chairman since then. Even the secretary to the local govt have been Itsekiris all the way and even all the major post have been occupied by them in the LG. The LG has ten federal was out of which the Itsekiris have six while the Ijaws have four. And it is so because of politics. In actual size and population, the Ijaws territories are larger and more populated than the Itsekiris. So for fairness and equity, it is not wrong for the Ijaws to produce the LG chairman this time around. Though I fore one believe in good governance but at the same time sense of belonging is also vital for peace to reign and inclusive development. |

In the first place, the marriage between the man and the woman supposed not to take place. Rape can only arise in a marriage where there is constant denial by one of the spouse. In a case like this, it means that the couples are not compatible... |

nairalandic:Thank you very much. I really appreciate. How do I get their (Google Map Team) link to send them my feedback? |
nairalandic:Thank you very much. However, is there anything one can do to include it on Google map? There was a particular project the government wanted to do then in the community, they try to locate the community on Google but it couldn't be found. Even when you type the name of the community, you will not find it on Google. So is it there anything one can do about it unless until Google find it and include it on the map on their own? |
