Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 2:22pm On Nov 16, 2015
Teempakguy:
dude . . . why are you being biased about this nah. grin
it's not about the length of the sticks. or bars. it's about where they start and end. and of course, the percentiles. the lines you said divided them.
also, we're comparing the courses. not the courses in nigeria. it's a general thing. i ignored those aspects. i only focused on the IQ aspect which was required by the op. if you actually study it, engineering is actually more successful commercially than physics. you'd have to know exactly what you're doing to be a physics student because it has next to no commercial value.
haha, i'm not being biased , far from it. Just that i find the issue of IQ to be subjective and also depends on the induviduals and geographic area. For example, You can't compare mech engine in india with mech engine in nigeria. For one, the iq and calibre of people who opt to study it in both countries can't be the same. Even though physics, along with engineering and medicine are still at the top of the list when it comes to iq tasking courses. There's no evidence to prove in it's entirety that physics is more iq tasking than the other two.so in this case, everybody bases his/her arguement on facts and figures available to him/her. I hope you understand my viewpoint.
Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 1:57pm On Nov 16, 2015
Teempakguy:
okay, the thing is, we're not arguing here about one field being better than the other. the op simply asked which course had the smartest s participants. and to be unbiased, we all know physics wins. we can't keep arguing this. more smarter people are in physics than are in engineering. this doesn't make the course any better.

okay fine, if it makes you feel any better, grin

1. engineers are on average more hardworking.
2. engineers commit more to their academics on average.
3. engineers are practical people.
4. of course, more job opportunities.

i was actually happy when i saw timonski claim he was a genius. but then Got disappointed when he said that stuff about money. i initially wanted to fight him. but then thought otherwise.
you know this arguement is not based on which course is better, yet you provided a chart that puts many other things(like meritocracy, cognitive ability and sources of occupational success) besides IQ into consideration??
Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 1:47pm On Nov 16, 2015
Teempakguy:
hehehehehe. i'm feeling very uneasy by this thread eh. grin grin
i really don't like pitting people against each other. BUT!

let's end this once and for all.

below is the link to a chart of modern iq ranges for various professions. and i've highlighted a screenshot of what's actually going on. the numbers on the bottom of the chart and above it are IQ figures. as you can see, the average iq for physicists and mathematicians is genius. while the average iq for engineers and engineering related courses is . . . well . . . average. lipsrsealed

www.iqcomparisonsite.com/occupations.aspx
get a broomstick bro, then measure the length of the bars for both engineering and physics, you'll see that they're of about the same length. The only difference being in their positions which is due to some other factors which they considered, not only IQ, as you can see that the chart is divided by some vertical lines.
.
.
.
.
.
And lastly, get me something that applies to nigerians. You can't compare the average nigerian physicist/engineer with a physicist/engineer in UNIVERSITY OF WINSCONSIN-MADISON, WINSCONSIN
Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 1:38pm On Nov 16, 2015
Teempakguy:
hey!

i didn't include the bolded in physics oh! shocked i was just asking him how as a high-end genius, he can shut out amazing stuff like that. grin

now, as you said, your love for engineering was born out of your love for tinkering and your fascination with cogs and wheels. THAT isn't intelligence. that's INTEREST. there is a guy over on youtube. he goes by the name collin furlize. he isn't an engineer, but his projects beat that of any engineer. pakingzzz is a mathematics student. tongue look at what he does.

in the end, my conclusion that physicists are smarter is not from a personal opinion, but rather from statistcal analysis.

more interesting though, philosophers are often smarter than physicists. wink

and hey! why'd you have to call dekatron nah. embarassed
you seem to forget that it takes a certain level of smartness to follow up on your interests. I had a childhood friend who was also interested in robotics, guess what, he's studying law. I was interested in coding, computers and graphics. I taught myself almost everything i know about coding starting from Qbasic to html, though i had a little help from my elder brother who is a bad ass coder. Did i forget to mention that most of his coursemates couldn't write one line of code even if their lives depended on it??. If i had decided to go with computer science as my main course and have engineering as a hobby, i bet you'd still say it has nothing to do with being smart.so also, pakingzzz could have chosen engineering as a course and had mathemnatics as a hobby. Doesn't matter which way you twist it. Even as a mechanical engineer, i dabble into electronics engineering a whole lot with the end product being a house full of used electrical components, stepper motors and arduino micro controllers. cheesy cheesy
garfield once said, you dont have to know everything to be smart- just enough of everything to sound smart. cheesy
But my main points are still summarised in the first two lines of this post.
Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 1:06pm On Nov 16, 2015
Teempakguy:
wow . . . what does "high-end genius" mean?
i'm assuming that this means your IQ is somewhat High.

fine.

but in actuality, the statistics aren't on your side. sad throughout history, the smartest people have being physicists and mathematicians.

one thing i don't understand though. how do you do it? how do you manage to limit yourself to one specialized course? i'm a low end genius and i find it extremely hard to stay on one subject. hence i try to study the ones that encompass a wide range of subjects. like physics. mechanical engineers are limited to things that move and things that are on earth. what about the sun, the moon, celestial objects? what about strings, what about electrons, what about programs, graphics, how do you shut your mind to all that? huh

and also. in another of your posts, you implied that money is an important factor in determining intelligence. why and how on earth would an high-end genius think like that? i almost can't fathom it. huh
mechanical engineer signing in here.
I have to say, how you included programming and graphics under physics totally beats my imagination. I do both of these things, not because i'm an engineer, but because i was enthralled by those fields. I used to have a wider variety of topics that captured my interest like genome sequencing, cloning, and some more crazy, other-worldly stuff. But at a time, i realised that i'd have to major in only a few of them, so i picked engineering as my main study, then graphics and programming as hobbies.
My point is- the fact that you are interested in a large range of topics doesn't make you smarter nor does it make an engineer less capable of taking on physics. My study of mechanical engineering was born out of my love for tinkering and my fascination with cogs and wheels. Nothing there about smartness.
And again, about the part of your write up i put in bold, timonski never said anything of that sort. What he meant by that post was that, despite the 'obvious' smartness of a physicist, engineers are paid more(citing Nigeria as the case study used). Note: the word obvious is in quotes cheesy :p
so it's either you're trying to make the dude feel bad for claiming genius OR it's just a plain misunderstanding
Cc: dekatron darkhorizon and every other physicist who feels the need to mess with engineers cheesy cheesy :p

Car TalkRe: A Look At Innoson Motors by Incorrect: 8:07am On Nov 16, 2015
OP, your first post was filled with loathing for IVM. How can you compare innoson that just started a few years ago with honda and other big automobile companies. It is through our show of goodwill, patronage, and support that innoson will grow to compete with international standards. This is not a matter of celeberating mediocrity, it is a matter of supporting our own and helping it along in it's development process. Afterall, how many african countries have their own indigenous car manufacturing plants even as ill equipped as innoson??
I'll take it that this is your own form of constructive criticism, but step off the gas a bit on the criticism.
Bless you

Blame it on the students' inability to differentiate serious work from play. When you're writing an exam as serious as WAEC, common sense should guide you
Science/TechnologyRe: Physicists Or Engineers by Incorrect: 9:54am On Nov 13, 2015
First of all, let's get one thing straight- the course you study doesn't make you smart, YOU make YOU smart.
Then if you ask me physics and engineering are incomparable because physics is a science(knowledge) and deals mostly with theories while engineering is technology(applied knowledge).

Science/TechnologyRe: 3-D Printing, How In The World Does This Work. Confused! by Incorrect: 8:32am On Nov 13, 2015
Haha, 3d printing is a way of creating objects using the process of additive manufacturing. Carving a piece of wood uses subtractive manufacturing 'cos you're subtracting parts from a big block of wood in order to form another object. So using that example, you should now know what i mean by additive manufacturing.
The 3d printer works on the same principles as a CNC mill, it also works on 3 axes- the X, Y and Z axes. A filament extruder which melts the plastic material follows these three axes in order to replicate a 3D design which you'll input from your computer. Then it presses it out from a tiny nozzle and arranges it layer by layer in order to form an object.

mrmetoo1:
And yet Igbos are doing very well I'm Yoruba lands, owning businesses, buying property without any intimidation or harassment.

Seriously I'm Yoruba and at this point I want what Biafrans want for themselves. If they want to leave please by all means let them go. All I ask is, what do you suggest should happen to the Biafra owned businesses and properties in the rest of Nigeria
you're yoruba?? Nice!! I kinda like your attitude. I don't usually comment on stuff like this but i just decided to point out one thing to you. How many times have you ever applied for a visa to go to ghana or any other west african country??
Lemme guess, you've never done that. Have you stopped to ask yourself why??
Well, it's because these are all countries under the Economic Community Of West African States(ECOWAS) which allows free trade between countries in west africa. There are Nigerians who own businesses in the UK, America, infact, all around the world, but you don't see those governments seizing their property.
It pains me when i see people raise the point of Biafrans seeking visas to enter Nigeria, or being deported, or their property being confiscated. But sadly, i cannot point this out to every ignorant buffoon on nairaland. As i said, i like your attitude so i pointed it out to you. Help me spread the word to your brothers and everyone who cares to listen. Have a nice day
Science/TechnologyRe: Hovercrafts...let's Brainstorm by Incorrect(op): 7:52pm On Nov 05, 2015
Teempakguy:
This is strange, just yesterday midnight, i began drawing up a design for an hoverboard, and this morning, i get this. Shocking co-incidence!

Anyway, i know how the hoverboard works, and frankly, it would be quite obvious to any engineer who got to look at it closesly. I had the opportunity of doing that. grin

so, i'm assuming you're talking about the omni hoverboard. Which recently broke the guiness world record for longest flight on hoverboard. Hehehe.
Well, THAT board works exactly like an helicopter. It's actually an octocopter. With eight fans. It works by . . . Well, aerodynamic lift. Which is quite a hot concept for me. Honestly, the fact that it works is . . . Awesome, for me. of course, as always, the constraint is power. The powe packs he used could only power the damn thing for a minute. Or so. This is where the atomic battery concept comes in and NO, robinhez, it's not as dangerous as you think.

Since this a brainstorming thread, i should probably mention the other types of crafts. Like the lexus hoverboard. Which uses the cool power of superconductors.

Again, the concept of hoverboards is not out of is world. Their possiblity of success 'hovers' on the amout of power density that we can ever achieve. So, we really should be discussing power. Not novel ways to achieve lift.
this is interesting. Kinda sounds like one of the silly ideas that sometimes come into my head where i imagine myself balanced between 2 quadcopters. I'm not surprised that it doesn't last long, this is the same problem which quadcopters/drones face. The longest i've heard a quadcopter/drone last is 30 minutes. SOme other factors to note are the torque of the motors, overcoming air friction, etc This, being a brainstorming thread, is going to solve these problems.
.
.
.
And please don't mention atomic batteries 'cos i intend to have my grandchildren sit around me while i tell them the story of my youth cheesy cheesy cheesy ...let's just leave the atoms in peace.

Okay, a little tip - I modelled one feather (modified using subdiv and the solidified modifiers (to enable/prevent back face culling) then I placed a Wing reference in the background (view from top, 7) and i systematically duplicate the one feather and arrange to fit (the secondary feathers of the reference wing image).

Once that is done, select all the feathers and and ctrl+j (or is it alt+j) to make all'em as one and duplicate and resize the new mesh to fit as the Lesser Primary Covert feathers....

Then model the hand (humerus, Carpometacarpus and stuff), affixed this sets of feathers to it and bind as whole mesh.
To make it an Okuko Igbo, do hairs on the wings......

Er..concerning the video, did the boy actually move? Or he was on a sort of magnetic field? tongue
lol, he was moving. As i said he didn't tell us the principle behind his motion. He tested it over a body of water so that he would have a soft landing incase it fails. There was obviously a force pushing against the surface of the water though. Now i don't know if he was using motors to push air downwards or something else
Science/TechnologyHovercrafts...let's Brainstorm by Incorrect(op): 1:49pm On Nov 05, 2015
For me, hovercrafts only exist in the land of movies where elephants fly and ducks talk. Until a week or two ago, when a video appeared on my facebook feeds about a Canadian teenager who produced a hovercraft. This is said to be the only working prototype of the hovercraft available in the world(according to the article).
The guy didn't explain the principles behind it's operation(i don't blame him, neither would i), so i did a bit of research. I noticed that someone made a hovercraft which could actually get off the the ground using rocket engine thrusters(dunno if he was trolling though)...his only problem being a loss of control when he tries to lean towards any direction.
.
.
.
So i brought this here for i and other nairalanders with working brains to figure how this stuff works. Wouldn't be bad if i get a working model for my self.

RomanceIncorrect's Guide To Superiority Part 1 by Incorrect(op): 2:16pm On Oct 30, 2015
Hello, good day to y'all
so today, i'm going to be teaching you how to act and dress superior. And this lesson is going to be drawn from my endless stock of knowledge so don't expect a source.
This post is inspired by the things i see every day; i.e people being bullied 'cos of their low self esteem, people suffocating first class egos in low class clothes, etc.
I'm going to try and keep this post as short as possible, so let's go there:
Superior Dressing
1. Wear Monogrammed clothes for those of you who don't know, a monogram is a design which involves the combination of a person's initials. Having monogrammed clothes give you an identity and you'll definitely be noticed everywhere you go. But make sure you have good initials first "GoD" is good, but you might consider filing a law suit against your parents if your initials spell out a body part eg "ASS"
2. Watch What The Paris Models Wear you know those models strutting along the runway that you watch on Paris tv, or other french channels?? Look at them well....look again....look more closely. Now make sure you don't make the mistake of wearing anything you see there. cheesy cheesy wink
3. Things Your Clothes Should Be Made Of Leather, silk, denim; things yout clothes shouldn't be made of: Real food, rubber, and any costume that involves plastic ensemble
4. Wear Colors In their Basic Shades if you want to wear blue, wear blue; don't wear something that looks like blue. If you want to wear white wear white. Don't wear something that looks like white. I like dark colors, doesn't mean everybody has to like it, that's what works for me though
HOW TO ACT SUPERIOR
now, you can't have all this superior swag, and be acting like francis odega, the 'gerarahia' guy, or Mr. Ibu. Take for example, the queen of england, if you meet her in traffic without her ceremonial garb, you'll still know she's the queen by the way she threatens to have you beheaded if you don't move your car for her to occupy your space. So lemme teach you to act like a boss.
1. never look up to someone who has a height advantage over you. If you do that, your own iyaff finish. Just keep your gaze level and that person might even be forced to bend over just to make eye contact.
2.clasp your hands together to show you're serious. Clasping them around someone's neck and squeezing tight means you're veery serious cheesy cheesy
3.then there are four facial expressions you should always have up your sleeve
A.)The brick face: this is a when your face is devoid of all emotions. It conveys the message that you're perfectly aware of everything happening in your environment but just don't give a hoot
B.) The Sneer: this facial expression is definitely a must for teenagers. Best for use on people criticising you, or people who are telling you stories you know are untrue. It's kinda like the english version of 'yimu'.
C.)the eyeball roll: this is used when you feel like some exasperating lower life form is wasting your time cheesy
.
thats all i have for now my people, feel free to ask me any questions.
Shout out to tosyne2much, wristbangle, and cramjones . This list thing no easy, i swear cheesy cheesy
