Crime / Exclusive: Why Okada Rider Stabbed DPO Of Ikeja GRA Police Station by InsideMainland: 7:47pm On Dec 30, 2017
An unidentified motorcycle rider popularly known as ‘Okada’ plying the Ikeja GRA route, Lagos Mainland, has stabbed the Divisional Police Officer of Area F in Ikeja GRA multiple times leaving him for dead, InsideMainland can authoritatively report.
InsideMainland reliably gathered that the incident which occurred few weeks ago stemmed from the reaction of the Okada rider who was angered by the actions of the DPO in enforcing the restriction ban on Okada in some sections of the residential area.
Recall that the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) had earlier released a detailed list of prohibited routes to Okada and Keke Marwa operators across the Lagos Mainland and the entire State with Ikeja GRA inclusive.
ALSO READ: HERE IS WHY ‘OKADA’ AND ‘MARWA’ OPERATORS ARE ARRESTED IN IKEJA GRA
It was gathered from sources privy to the incident that the DPO is alleged to be fond of running over Okada riders with his car while enforcing the restriction ban. He was alleged to have run over some of the Okada riders shoving them into a ditch or at times, waterlogged gutters at different sections of the area.
A source who spoke to InsideMainland said: “There is a ban on Okada in some areas of Ikeja GRA but sometimes, the Okada riders take the risk of plying the routes due to the number of people who ply that axis.
“Although the some officers in the station usually warn us to avoid plying the axis, the DPO is the most feared officer because he doesn’t even worry about arresting Okada drivers or seizing bikes.
“He will rather chase you till he run over you and your bike and you fall into a gutter before he drives off.”

Properties / Ikorodu Houses Marked For Demolition By LASG; The Residents React by InsideMainland: 10:27pm On Dec 07, 2017
‘I am a physically challenged person. The school and the set of rooms on the other side are the only properties I have and it is already marked to be demolished,” a visibly concerned owner who was rooted to her wheelchair told InsideMainland while pointing at the partly competed bungalow that serves as a nursery school she runs in the Love Estate, Mowo Kekere, Ikorodu community, Lagos Mainland.

The source identified simply as Iya Ibeji continued saying: “The first time they came, some of my teachers told them to wait to see the owner of the structure before demolishing it. They begged that they shouldn’t demolish the building because of the condition of the owner.

“The next time was few days ago when they came to paste demolition notices on houses in the community. The Police accompanied the officials from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to carry out the exercise. The officers told me not to sit and watch but do something to prevent my properties from being demolished because they saw me on wheelchair outside my compound.”

Mama Ibeji is just one out of over hundred landlords and tenants who are faced with the battle to ensure their properties are not demolished by the officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In November 2017, more than 70% of houses within the Love Garden Estate, Mowo Kekere, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland, were marked for demolition by the government. The demolition process was scheduled to be effective in 48 hours from the day a contravention notice was served.

Immediately the notices were served, the concerned persons rushed to Alausa, Lagos Mainland, to cry to the Lagos State Government and the lawmakers at the House of Assembly.

InsideMainland exclusively gathered that the contravention and demolition notices were served respectively on November 7 and 9, 2017, by the Office of the Honourable Commissioner for Physical planning and Urban Development through the directive of one Mr. Okuniyi of the Technical Services Department (TSD) of the Ministry.

It was learnt that the notices were served due to the home owners did not get the approved building plan before erecting the structures.

When InsideMainland visited the community, some of the affected persons told our correspondent that since the notices were served some members of the community development association were delegated to resolve the issue. “The community leaders have been attending meetings to ensure a lasting solution is found on the matter,” a resident of the area, Mr. Ayandele told InsideMainland.

According to one of the residents, the alleged owner of the large expanse of land is believed to be working with the government who is fronting for him to ensure he retrieves his land.

It was however gathered that majority of the affected home owners purchased their lands from the Ifegbuwa family with the contact person in the family identified as one Mr. Tolani issuing receipts of the purchase on behalf of the family.

“We have been here for more than two years. We argued with the people pasting the notices that we have all the necessary documents but we were told that was not the case but the case of ownership. The only owner we knew is the Ifegbuwa family. We bought the land from them making full payments.

“I had to call a member of the family and he said the place is a village extension and free from government acquisition,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the landlord association revealed they are yet to get any concrete information from the last meeting they had with the House of Assembly lawmakers in Alausa.

Presently, the residents of the area are crying to the Akinwunmi Ambode led government to rescind the decision to demolish structures worth billions of naira in the community.

“If the entire Ijede and areas Ikorodu are checked, I am certain that hardly will we establish 90% buildings having the required building plan approval. We plead with the government to come to our aid to so that our sweat and labour won’t go down the drain,” the source added.

Crime / Inside Ikorodu Cultism War; The Confraternities And Their Kingpins by InsideMainland: 6:39pm On Oct 22, 2016
With the spate of cult killings in Ikorodu increasing by the day, residents in the community continue to live in fear. The community, formerly known for its serenity is now ‘unofficially’ the headquarters of cultism in Lagos if not Nigeria. This is due to the number of cult related attacks in Ikorodu Community in the last few months. Investigation by InsideMainland reveals that over 200 cultism-inspired attacks had been recorded in Ikorodu since the beginning of the year.

Ikorodu is now the hot bed of incessant killings by cult groups, daylight robberies, rape, kidnapping and land grabbing. Unfortunately, the residents have been caught in the middle and now live in panic and constant fear of being attacked by the different cult gangs.

But the cult war is a fight for territorial supremacy between two deadly rival confraternities known as the Eiye and Aiye cult groups. In the course of the gang warfare, the cultists have also latched on the mayhem they created to wreaked havoc on businesses and residents in the community, these two gangs were responsible for 22 attacks in October 2016 alone. These attacks led to nine deaths.

To ensure sanity, one of the most dreaded local vigilante group, Onyabo was formed to provide a intervention. It seems to have paid off as the group has arrested over 150 cult members thus far. In an exclusive chat with the Provost Marshall of Onyabo, Mr. Olanrewaju Olabinjo, InsideMainland extensively gathered that the group has been tracking the kingpins of the various gangs as well as their field soldiers.

Onyabo revealed that the Aiye Confraternity is allegedly led by a fearsome middle aged man known as ‘Seventy’.... READ MORE http://insidemainland.com/2016/10/22/exclusive-inside-ikorodu-cultism-war-confraternities-kingpins/

Politics / SOS: Tales Of Deplorable Roads, Robberies By Residents Of Irawo/ Bako Estate by InsideMainland: 6:44pm On Aug 24, 2016
Residents of Bako Estate, Owode Ajegunle have cried out on the deplorable state of their roads and the consistent robbery attack they experience. Majority of the roads linking the community such as Ondo Street, Igbajo, Bola Kazeem, Adekeye, Thomas Laniyan and more are nothing to write home about.

Also the incessant robbery attacks from hoodlums who break into homes to loot has not helped the situation as residents confirmed that a robbery incident occurred last Saturday at the Idiagbon end of Bako Estate where a house was robbed in the early hours of 3am and 5am. The residents were robbed of laptops, mobile gadgets, money, and other valuables.

While addressing the state of security in the community, the Chairman of Unity CDA Bako Estate, Mr. Babatope Abu told InsideMainland that “we are doing our best to ensure the safety of lives and properties in the estate. Before now, we have security men working around the estate but we have added another 3 officers to ensure proper security for residents. The Police officers attached to the Thomas station are also doing a good job to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.”

Commenting on the deplorable state of the roads, he said “It appears to me that it is pure neglect on the part of the government. The community CDA had contacted the government through the Ministry of works on different occasions but we are yet to get a result. The community has spent a lot to get stones and other materials to fill parts of the road to ensure it’s motorable.”

For Taiwo Bako, another community leader who is also a landlord in the area, “I haven’t used my car for 3 months because the roads are a nightmare once it rains. The last time government officials came to the community, they promised to fix the roads but till now, nothing has been done.”

While corroborating the chairman on security in the estate, Taiwo said “security starts from the individual and those in the surroundings. I would advise we remain vigilant always because the Police and estate security can only do their best from the little information we give them.”

Business / Wooden Bridge At New Alade Market Scares Customers Away by InsideMainland: 10:09pm On Aug 22, 2016
Today, August 22, 2016, makes it exactly one month since the New Alade Market was officially commissioned and opened for business purposes. While many rejoiced with the traders for moving into newly built stores, few didn’t predict that the place will be scanty few weeks after official opening.

Compared to the old market, it appears traders and other business dealers are yet to warm up to the new Alade Market. An InsideMainland correspondent who visited the market earlier today discovered that nearly half of the stores in the new market are yet to be occupied. While construction works is still ongoing on different parts of the market, some stores are still under lock and yet to be opened for business.

Speaking with our correspondent, a trader in the clothes section of the market, Alhaja Seliat, expressed her concern on the low turnout of customers since the market opened. “I have tried different means to inform my customers about the new place but it seems not working. Since I moved, I’m yet to make half of the cost expended in ensuring that the new shop was ready for trading. Customers turnout is nothing to write home about.”

Also corroborating Alhaja Seliat complaints, another shop owner who craved anonymity disclosed that “I continue to worry on a daily basis about the turnout but all I resort to is pray customers locate us. The place is like a hidden spot compared to the open place the old market was situated. Customers could easily locate your store back there but that is not the case in the new market.”Alade market

For Mrs. Adamolekun, the low turn out of customers in the market is due to some parts of the market that is yet to be completed. She pointed out the canal dividing the two sections of the market and the bridge that was originally meant to be constructed over the canal as a reason for it.

Pointing to the plank used as a means of crossing the canal, she said “a customer told me she won’t come around until something is done to that plank over there due to her phobia for water. The authorities promised to construct a bridge over the canal but nothing is being done there yet. Sometimes, the canal smells due to dirts.”

Our correspondent contacted the Iyaloja of Alade Market, Chief Mrs. Aina Adenuga to verify the claims of the concerned traders. She however directed our correspondent to the Secretary of the Market Union identified as Mrs. Idowu who refused to make any comment.
