Following the recent unprecedented and massive surrendering of Boko Haram Terrorists in Bama Operational area on 2 and 4 August, 2021 respectively, there has been confusion and severe apprehension in the camps of the Islamic State of West Africa Province especially amongst its top ranking commanders over the depleting strength of its members, which has drastically dwindled their overall fighting efficiency.

It is against this back drop that the terrorists group opted for the use of propaganda via AMAQ Terrorists Media Wing with the aim to portray the group as if it is still a potent force in the North East.

The current trend of apprehension in their camps was further aggravated by the recent alarming turn out of members of the terrorists group, who came out in droves with their families to lay down their arms and surrender to own troops at Mafa Local Government Area on 14 August, 2021.

A total of 186 Boko Haram Terrorists members led by their Amir, Manye Aga, comprising 67 adult males, 54 adult females and 65 children surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI at Forward Operational Base (FOB) Ajiri. Items recovered from the surrendered terrorists include, several AK 47 rifles and magazines, a locally made pistol and 8 locally fabricated daggers.

Similarly, on 15 August, 2021, the Theatre took custody of additional Boko Haram fighters, comprising of 4 adult males, 11 adult females and 18 children from Landanli, Azah, Ngaridua and Kondilla villages, who surrendered to own troops of 151 Task Force Battalion, Banki Junction in Bama.

ISWAP is yet to come to terms with the reality of its current predicament, which has posed serious negative impact on its prowess.

It is also worthy of note that the terrorists are overwhelmed with palpable fear and are making desperate efforts to halt the ongoing surrendering of their fighters from the Tumbus and Sambisa axis.

The Nigerian Military is more resolute in intensifying both kinetic and non kinetic efforts in the fight against insurgency, banditry and sundry crimes in the country.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has signed new contract at the Spanish club, until 2026, Newspremises reports.

The Belgian was said to have being at the club since making the move from Chelsea in the summer of 2018.

Courtois has proved to be one of the best goalkeepers in world football.

The Spanish giant confirmed the news of Courtois's contract extension at the club in a statement the issued on Monday, August 16, 2021.

The statement read:

"Real Madrid and Thibaut Courtois have agreed to extend the player's contract for five more seasons, until June 30, 2026."

Newspremise recall that Courtois featured for Belgium at just concluded Euro 2020, as they reached the quarter-finals and he has now represented his country on 89 occasions.

A yet to be identified middle-aged woman has committed suicide in Idokpa community close to the Benin bypass, Edo State, Newspremises reports.

The lifeless body of the woman was found dangling on the ceiling of an uncompleted building on Thursday morning, August 5.

It was gathered that the woman, who residents said was not from Idokpa community, was believed to have committed suicide overnight.

As residents trooped out to the building to see the body, nobody could say why the woman decided to take such drastic action.

One of the residents at the scene of the incident, identified as Samuel, said that the woman was not a member of the community as nobody among the residents could recognise her.

"We all ran there when the news got to us but no one seems to know the woman or where she came from. Hopefully, the police will help unravel the mystery,” Samuel told Tribune.

It was further gathered that the owner of the uncompleted building contacted the police in the area, who made arrangement for the evacuation of the corpse to the mortuary.

Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Kontongs Bello, who confirmed the incident, said that investigation is ongoing and a statement will be issued in due course.

Real Madrid are considering taking legal action against LaLiga and CVC Capital Partners after the Spanish league agreed to sell 10% of its business to the investment fund for €2.7 billion, without informing Real Madrid a major club in the league.

The money raised from the sale will be distributed among the clubs in the form of a loan, repayable over a significant number of years. The payments will be based on the contributions the clubs have had since the centralisation of audiovisual rights in 2015, with Madrid allocated around €261 million and Barca €270m.

The clubs must spend at least 70% of the money on investments related to long-term growth, 15% on refinancing their debt, and 15% can be used to increase their league-imposed spending limits.

LaLiga announced the landmark deal on Wednesday, and reports say even Barcelona had not yet agreed to the deal doubting if it can be voted through at the La Liga general assembly on Aug. 12.

The Spanish league's executive committee have already unanimously approved the 10% sale, but it must be ratified at the general assembly next week.

League sources said that despite the concerns some clubs have about the deal, they believe it will be voted through because only two-thirds of the 42 voting clubs in the top two tiers of Spanish football must be in favour.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao are in opposition to the sale, El Independiente reported on Thursday.

According to El Independiente, Madrid were weighing up taking action for asset misappropriation.

The report said that Madrid feel the sale "endangers" their business opportunities by allowing CVC to take make money from, for example, television rights without the club agreeing to the deal.

For their initial investment, CVC will pocket 11% of the money raised by LaLiga through the sale of television rights and sponsorship for the next 40 years.

Madrid said in a statement on Thursday: "This agreement was reached without the involvement or knowledge of Real Madrid and today, for the first time, LaLiga has given us limited access to the terms of the agreement.

"The negotiation was carried out without competitive proceedings and the financial conditions agreed with CVC Capital Partners give them annual returns of over 20%. This opportunistic fund is the same which tried and failed to reach similar agreements with the Italian and German leagues.

"Real Madrid cannot support a venture which hands the future of 42 Primera and Segunda División clubs over to a group of investors, not to mention the futures of those clubs who qualify over the next 50 years.

"Real Madrid will convene the Assembly of Representative Members to debate the agreement and discuss the significant loss of equity, unprecedented in our 119-year history."

Barcelona said in a statement: "FC Barcelona considers that the operation that has been made public has not been sufficiently verified with the clubs [owners of the TV rights]; that its amount is not congruent with the years of duration and that part of the audiovisual rights of all the clubs are affected for the next 50 years.

"The Club considers the signing of a half-century contract inappropriate given the uncertainties that always surround the world of football.

"The conditions of the contract that LaLiga is talking about condemn the future of FC Barcelona in terms of audiovisual rights.

"FC Barcelona wants to show its surprise at an agreement promoted by Laliga in which it has not had the criteria of teams, like FC Barcelona itself, and does not even show options among more competitors to be able to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages in a scenario with many questions such as the post-pandemic."

EFCC Returns Recovered N244, 000 to Octogenarian Victim of Fraud in Benin

It was praises, prayers and commendation for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday August 4, 2021 as 81 year-old John Ederaro received a bank draft for N244, 000 from the Benin Zonal Commander of the Commission, Muhtar Bello, being monetary asset recovered on his behalf by the EFCC.

Ederaro, who could not hide his joy, repeatedly thanked the Benin Zonal Commander as he received the bank draft.

"I want to thank the EFCC for the good work they are doing for the people. EFCC is a father to the fatherless. I commend EFCC for the good work. They are really working to save the country. May God give the leadership of Commission more wisdom and strength; I am so happy because EFCC did not allow shame to be my portion. God bless the EFCC more and more."

Narrating his ordeal, the octogenarian whose pain has turned to joy said he misplaced his phone in an intercity bus. Concerned Advocates For Good Governance, a political pressure group, says it has consulted U.S based law firms to defend former Head of Police Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari.

This is contained in a statement signed by the group’s President-General, Mr Olusegun Bamgbose in Owerri on Wednesday.

Bamgbose, who noted that the embattled police officer remained innocent of allegations leveled against him until proven guilty, called on well meaning Nigerians to rally support for “one of the finest cops Nigeria has ever produced”.

He said contact with the U.S based law firms whose names remain withheld were part of efforts by the group to ensure justice for Kyari if eventually extradited to the U.S.

Bamgbose urged the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police not to panic while expressing optimism that Kyari would be eventually be cleared of the allegations.

“We have diligently consulted with about three notable law firms in the United States to give us their legal opinions on what can be done to formidably defend Abba Kyari.

“One of the leading firms has replied us and gone ahead to send us the indictment against Abba Kyari and other details which is about 26 pages.

“The reputable law firm, well-grounded on extradition issues, has assured us of their readiness to represent Kyari’s interest before and after his possible extradition to the U.S,” he said.

He, however, added that while the group does not intended to cover up corruption, fairness and justice should not be denied accused compatriots especially in matters of international concern.
