How can someone be allowed to disparage the office of the VP because you both contested in the same party primaries? Saying you've forgiven the vice president of the federal republic of Nigeria for contesting against you?? You a private citizen.. This bat keeps displaying extreme delusion and mental retardation on a scale never before seen in our politics.

PoliticsBenito Wike Hitler- The Folly Of A Riverine Despot- opinion by InsiderPost(op):
Many a time when men of the Gestapo were about to violate the rights of Germans during the third Reich, they would always say to the oppressed "Für ihre sicherheit", which means “For your safety”.

Whilst I strongly resisted the urge to go on a tongue-lashing spree over the recent totalitarian atrocities of the Rivers State Governor, my instinct would not permit that I be unspeaking in the face of tyranny and oppression. In the words of Edmund Burke, “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing”. It is in this light that I make this clarion call for Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to vehemently resist the fascist actions of Wike, who is fastly becoming the Mussolini of our time.

In the space of a fortnight, the Rivers State Governor has impounded and auctioned vehicles of unsuspecting commuters, deported travelers, illegally issued persona non gratae and is now demolishing private properties, shutting down going concerns and amusingly constructing giant metallic gates at the State’s entry ports in the name of fighting a virus! While we at least expect some form of regard for the rule of law from a learned advocate, the governor’s behavior has been perversely counter-intuitive.

Wike might be quick to shout Für ihre sicherheit! But we must remember that the greatest tyrannies are always perpetrated under the guise of the noblest causes. So when tyrants begin to reveal their true nature and decide to be clever by half by claiming to be acting irrationally for the good of the State, we must be bold enough to tell them the truth in black and white because if liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. As patriots, we must always be ready to defend the State, even against the government.

Those who cheer the Governor’s tomfoolery must understand that people who play with the devil’s toys will be brought by degrees to wield his sword and those who play with the tail of a tiger must be comfortable with sitting in its stomach. As a people, we do not need strong men to lord over us, but strong institutions. We do not want despots or beasts as leaders because we do not live in a jungle or zoo, we want functional systems and respect for the rule of law.

PoliticsCovid-19 And Fg’s Insensitive Welfare Policy- Anarchy On The Horizon- opinion by InsiderPost(op): 9:29am On Apr 17, 2020
…“We are working with the Federal Ministry of Health on protecting our citizens from ‘COVIK one nine’. As a government, this is now a key priority for us”…

Those were the words of Muhammadu Buhari, in a viral video clip which surfaced on the internet on the 22nd of March 2020, following widespread calls from members of the public as well as the Nigerian Senate, demanding a national address from the Nation’s dreary President.

While it is not clear what group the President was referring to in the excerpt “we are working with the federal ministry of health”, since by extension, the federal ministry of health is a part of the federal government; the ministry has nonetheless shown commitment in containing the spread of the novel corona virus.

On the many gaffes and boo-boos of Buhari, many Nigerians are seemingly “appreciative” of the president’s recurring comic reliefs, which apparently lightens (once in a while), the mood of a populace fatigued by unending economic and sociopolitical challenges.

However, with the decision to impose a total lockdown in States, worse hit by Covid-19, Nigerians are already biting the bullet in the wake of excruciating economic realities.

Grappling with the lockdown

The world health organization (WHO) strongly advocates social distancing and supports lockdown measures in cities/regions considerably affected by the corona virus. In his continued approval for lockdown measures, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director General of the WHO, via a recent Twitter publication, maintained that “the faster all cases are found, tested, isolated & cared for, the harder it is for the virus to spread”. The United nations children emergence fund (UNICEF) has revealed that at least 82 countries globally have some form of lockdown measures in place, although the economic effects of such extreme measures vary across nations.

In Nigeria, the initial 2 weeks of the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory raised serious questions about the continuity of such severe action. With criminal activities on the rise, police brutality (with security operatives even killing more people than the corona virus), many Nigerian internet users have expressed doubt over the sustainability of the government’s lockdown. This inarguably stems from the federal government’s insensitive welfare policy, with respect to the Covid-19 crisis.

Palliative measures

Following a recent national broadcast, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that N20,000 be paid to each vulnerable household in the National social register, through the social investment scheme to cushion the economic impact of the lock down arising from the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The release of statistics of beneficiaries of the federal government’s conditional cash transfer program was however met with widespread criticisms. This is because the ICIR (international consortium of investigative reporters) revealed that despite the government’s total lockdown on Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory- Katsina and Zamfara States remain the largest beneficiaries of the national cash transfer scheme, as at April 2020 (even though these 2 States currently have no total lockdown response in place). Suspiciously, while the president is from Katsina, the coordinating minister of the Nation’s social welfare program is from Zamfara.

Looming anarchy

In the past 1 week, residents of Ogun and Lagos have taken to socia media, lamenting the upsurge in crime rate in their communities, calling on the government to intervene as things spiral out of control. Youths have taken the role of cops in some areas in the aforementioned States, forming vigilante teams to deter attacks from unscrupulous elements, while videos of people hijacking bread and rice supplies from moving trucks in Abuja (the Nation’s capital) have circulated the internet. With most Nigerians relying on the informal sector for economic survival, the hardship is sure to bite harder.

Although Buhari’s nepotism and tribalist tendencies are not new, it is only worrisome and unfortunate that the president exhibits such undesirable trait at a time when fairness and empathy is of utmost importance. If Buhari’s welfare policy towards States worse hit by the corona virus crisis is not immediately revised, it is only logical to expect a total breakdown of law and order in the coming weeks.

PoliticsNOI (Iweala) Makes Cfrs List Of 6 Women Who Shaped The Contemporary World by InsiderPost(op): 7:06pm On Mar 09, 2019
Just few days after being named one of transparency international's 8 Anti corruption crusaders, Nigeria's e finance minister has been listed as one of 6 women who shaped the contemporary world order.

In a recent publication by US based think tank CFR (Council On Foreign Relations), Ngozi Iweala was listed alongside Nobel Laureate Jodi Williams, Liese Meitner and four others.

Read CFR's full post below:

Rebecca Hughes and Kyle L. Evanoff.

Today is International Women’s Day. This day of recognition shines a spotlight on the achievements of women past and present. It was formally established in 1975, when the United Nations celebrated International Women’s Year and held the first World Conference on Women in Mexico City. However, the day’s origins can be traced back to the first decade of the twentieth century and the women’s labor and suffrage movements.

All too often women and their stories are edited out of history. However, women have played critical roles in forging the contemporary world and the international institutions that help govern it. Thanks to women, we gained—among other fixtures—the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first treaty to articulate the fundamental human rights that should be universally protected.

Eleanor Roosevelt steered the treaty through a tumultuous drafting and adoption process; Hansa Mehta, Minerva Bernardino, and Bodil Begtrup insisted upon inclusive language that referred to “humans” instead of “men”; and women such as Begum Shaista Ikramullah, Evdokia Uralova, and Marie-Helene Lefaucheux pushed for it to address women’s issues such as marriage and equal pay.

Furthermore, women such as Hannah Arendt, Marie Colvin, and Elena Poniatowska have challenged us to understand the world in new ways. And in recent years Margaret Chan, Christine Lagarde, Angela Merkel, and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka have changed the face of leadership.

Today, in honor of International Women’s Day, we highlight just a few of the women whose contributions have helped to shape world order into its present form.

Mabel Newcomer.

Dr. Mabel Newcomer was a respected economist, passionate educator, and prolific writer. From 1917 to 1957, she taught economics at Vassar College, where she was known as the best “tax man” of those years. PoliticsNasarawa Guber: I Have Not Stepped Down For Maku- PDP Candidate by InsiderPost(op): 8:23am On Mar 08, 2019
Olukayode Babalola/Lafia
Mr David Ombugadu, PDP governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, has dismissed the purported endorsement of Mr Labaran Maku, his APGA rival, by the Eggon Cultural Development Association (ECDA).

Ombugadu, in a press briefing in Lafia on Thursday, said that the purported endorsement was a “stage-managed” gathering by Maku’s supporters to sway the opinion of the Eggon people believed to be one of the largest in the state.

“I was told that some people rushed to the media to claim that Maku has been endorsed for the governorship seat by the Eggon speaking people, but I have found the claim to be totally false.

“I have watched a video of what transpired and can confirm that nothing like that happened,” Ombugadu, a ranking member of the House of Representatives, who is also Eggon, said.

He said that Maku’s associates had attempted to “deceive the people by staging a coup in media houses”, but failed in that bid.

“To me, their desperate actions should be condemned. As far as I am concerned, I am a popular choice of the entire people of Nasarawa State. I am the right person to take Nasarawa State to a new height.

“From what I saw in the video, the ECDA President, Mr Wilberforce Alaku, never said anything close to endorsing Maku.

“What he said was that both Maku and Ombugadu were Eggon children. He also said that two of us cannot afford to go into the governorship contest together because we needed unity to achieve success.

“What the Maku team wanted to do was to stage a `democratic coup’ by misquoting the ECDA official. It was a desperate attempt to circumvent due process in seeking the mandate of the Eggon people. This is wrong and should be disregarded.

“It is a shame that Maku was `in a hurry to stage a coup against his own people’.

“I am even more disappointed with the manner the alleged endorsement spread on some media outlets. Journalists must engage in serious investigative journalism so as to get the truth of an issue and avoid spreading fake news.

“Newsmen must try to confirm claims, especially on sensitive issues like this, before going public. It is the only way to earn the respect of members of the public,” he said.

The PDP governorship candidate urged voters to choose candidates based on merit so as to enjoy the benefits of good governance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that four persons from the Eggon tribe are in the race for the Nasarawa State Governorship seat.

The quartet include Ombugadu (PDP), Maku (APGA), Mathew Ombugaku (Rebuild Nigeria Party), and Abdullahi Agibi (Labour Party). (NAN)

PoliticsI Will Do More In My Second Term- Buhari by InsiderPost(op): 2:58pm On Mar 06, 2019
In addition to his promise to take tough decisions in his second term, President Muhammadu Buhari added another today: a pledge to work harder to consolidate on providing security, improving the economy, creating jobs, fighting corruption and upgrading infrastructure.

He spoke at the State House, Abuja on Wednesday when he received the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, on a courtesy visit, President Buhari said:

“This is my last lap. I will try and work even harder than I have done. I assure you that I will not let you down. I pray that my best will be good enough.”

The President, who thanked members of the ACF for their consistent and dogged support, said he remained appreciative of their goodwill.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mallam Adamu Fika, said the organisation visited to congratulate President Buhari on his re-election.

He recalled some strategic projects important to the North and the country as a whole abandoned up until 2015 such as the Baro Dry Port and Mambilla Hydro Power station.

“It is pleasing to note that since then, the Baro Dry Port has been commissioned, while some other projects have been reactivated and are now being implemented.”

“We pray that those organs of government charged with the responsibility for the implementation will double their efforts to ensure that these projects are executed fully to their logical conclusion within reasonable time,” he added.(NAN)

Ohaneze Ndigbo revealed its intention and condition to support the APC's candidate at a town hall meeting in Lagos on Sunday, chaired by its Lagos State leader, Solomon Ogbonna.

PoliticsI Have Also Suspended Oshiomole From APC- Okorocha Fires Back by InsiderPost(op): 12:33am On Mar 04, 2019
Following his purported suspension, Rochas Okorocha, the Executive Governor of Imo State has stated that he has sacked the national chairman of the APC comrade Adams Oshiomole.

In an interview with channels TV, the Governor whose recent senatorial election victory raised suspicion, criticised the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress for his suspension from the party over alleged anti-party activities.

The Governor insisted that comrade Oshiomhole did not have the power to remove a party member, describing the suspension as a joke.

His words- “I just heard media reports that I’ve been suspended from the party. I think Adams is seeking relevance and looking for attention. He doesn’t have such powers to remove somebody without following the due process. If he is joking, which I think he is, I also have decided to sack him myself.

“So, I have sacked him from the party. If he thinks he can just stand up and say he has suspended me from the party I founded, without following the due process, in the same manner, I have sacked him from the party.

“I learnt that the reasons he adduced for my being suspended from the party is for anti-party reasons. I think Adams is the biggest player of anti-party activities in the APC. The man has simply destroyed the party to a great extent." He added.

PoliticsLagos Guber- Ohaneze Ndigbo Declares Support For Sanwo-olu by InsiderPost(op): 12:04am On Mar 04, 2019
Ohaneze Ndigbo in Lagos has endorsed the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the 9 March election.

The endorsement was announced at the group’s town hall meeting in Lagos on Sunday, with Ohaneze Lagos State leader, Solomon Ogbonna, stating that members have concluded plans to cast their votes for Sanwo-Olu.

The candidate in a tweet appreciated the Igbo group and also posted the video of the meeting.

The Ohaneze leader promised to mobilise the over two million Igbo voters in Lagos to cast their vote for Sanwo-Olu but demanded he should appoint six of their members as commissioners after the election.

According to him, “we are endorsing him because this is the man that will give us what we have been craving for in Lagos.

“This is the best that can happen to the Ndigbos in Lagos, so come out and vote for him. Hold me responsible for this because I know him and I have seen what he can do,” said.

According to him, when their members were attacked after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, “Sanwo-Olu’s actions showed his love for the Ndigbo to live peacefully in Lagos.”

Former President, Oliver Akabueze, explained that their members voted against the APC candidates during Presidential election was because they did not like the choice of the party.

“What played out during last election will not happen next Saturday because we love Sanwo-Olu. But during last election, the choice of the party did not meet our expectations and that is why we did that.”

Secretary, Ohaneze Lagos, Everest Nweke, stressed that the endorsement did not indicate that Ohaneze had started engaging in politics but ”very concerned on how we are governed especially the lives and property of Ndigbo is our priority.”

The woman leader, Nkechi Agubuzor, also said over two million of their members would be mobilised to cast their votes for the APC candidate.

CrimeJust In- Unknown Gunmen Kill 6, Injure 8 In Kaduna by InsiderPost(op): 10:08pm On Mar 02, 2019
Mohammed Lawal

Six people have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen while eight others sustained gunshot injuries at Sabon Sara, near Kidandan village in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Investigation by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) revealed that the hoodlums attacked the village at about 1:30 a.m. of Saturday morning in an attempt to kidnap one Alhaji Nasidi, a large scale farmer in the area.

An eye witness, who pleaded for anonymity, said the gunmen who stormed the village in large numbers were unable to kidnap the farmer instead, they whisked away his wife.

The source added that the villagers mobilised themselves and chased the gunmen and eventually retrieved the woman from captivity.

“In an attempt to rescue the woman, the bandits opened fire on us killing six persons while eight other people among us escaped with gunshot wounds.

“The deceased have been buried according to Islamic rites in the presence of Giwa Local Govt Chairman, Engr. Abubakar Shehu Lawal Giwa and the Council Secretary, Alhaji Usman Ismail.

“While the eight injured persons were rushed to Kauran Wali Clinic in Zaria for medical attention,” the source said.

When NAN checked the Kauran Wali Clinic located on Gaskiya Junction, some of the victims were on drip, however, it seemed that the necessary urgent medical attention was not actually given to their case.

One of the victims was discharged on the grounds that his multiple injuries needed to be taken care of in a traditional manner.

NAN got some names of the deceased to include; Ibrahim Bakanike, Lawal S/pawa, Lawal Belo, Tukur Bilyaminu Kafinta and Ummaru Abdullahi Mai Rake while one Fatima Ahmad died as a result of high blood pressure.

Those with gunshot injuries are; Malam Abdullahi Umar, Aminu Ya’u, Rabilu Isa, Salisu Usman, Sabi’u Ya’u, Muhammad Musa, Ibrahim Sani and Malam Sani Ahmad Buzu while another victim, Yahuza Tukur was hospitalised because of high blood pressure.

All efforts to get reactions of the police proved abortive as the Public Relations Officer of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo refused to respond to several phone calls.

He, however, in a text message, promised to get back to the reporter later.

When contacted on his mobile phone, the Council Secretary, Usman Ismail confirmed the incident and appealed to members of the community to remain calm.

While urging them to pray to Almighty Allah to forgive those that lost their lives and seek quick recovery of the injured, the secretary assured that the council was doing everything possible to ensure security of lives and property of its residents. (NAN)

PoliticsJust In- Amosun, Okorocha Suspended By APC For Anti-party Activities by InsiderPost(op): 3:45pm On Mar 01, 2019
The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday suspended governors Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun and Rochas Okorocha of Imo states.

The NWC of the party further recommended the expulsion of the duo from the party for brazen anti-party activities.

Both governors are supporting different candidates for the governorship election in their states.

korocha, who won a Senate seat as APC candidate, is backing his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu campaigning for Imo governor as candidate of Action Alliance.

Amosun, who also won a Senate seat as APC senator last week, is also supporting a member of the House of Representatives, Abdulkadir Akinlade, as governor as a member of the Allied Peoples Movement.

In Imo, APC has Senator Hope Uzodinma as its governorship candidate. Prince Dapo Abiodun is the candidate in Ogun.

Amosun was roundly criticised in February when he flooded an APC presidential rally in Abeokuta with APM supporters. The incident almost went awry as the APM mob nearly stoned President Muhammadu Buhari.

Foreign AffairsUS Places $1 Million Bounty On Osama Bin Laden’s Son by InsiderPost(op): 12:05pm On Mar 01, 2019
The United States has placed a 1 million dollars bounty on a son of deceased terrorist Osama Bin Laden.

Hamza bin Laden, who has been dubbed the "crown prince of jihad", is believed to be lying low in Pakistan, Afghanistan or Iran.

He has previously made public statements urging Al-Qaeda (AQ) followers to wage war on London, Washington, Paris and Tel Aviv.

The US State Department said they were now making the hefty reward to find him.

The statement read: “The Justice Program is offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the identification or location in any country of AQ key leader Hamza bin Laden.

“Hamza bin Laden is the son of deceased former AQ leader Usama bin Laden and is emerging as a leader in the AQ franchise.

“Since at least August 2015, he has released audio and video messages on the Internet calling on his followers to launch attacks against the United States and its Western allies, and he has threatened attacks against the United States in revenge for the May 2011 killing of his father by U.S. service members."
