The way we play politics here in the south east is laughable. You didn't vote for apc in the last general election, yet you turn around to endorse an apc house member for speakership position, a position we may have gotten if we had given the apc at least two states in the south east. kahal29: The choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively for the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila and Idris Wase got a boost on Tuesday with Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi’s declaration of support for the two.
Umahi, who received a 103-strong members-elect delegation at the Government House, Abalaki expressed confidence in the ability of Gbajabiamila and Wase to deliver an effective and efficient legislature in the next National Assembly.
The entourage, that was on consultation drive to the Southeast and Southsouth regions was also received by the Zonal Vice Chairman, Speaker of the States House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and host of cabinet members and elders.
While appreciating the consultation drive of the team, the governor noted that the time has come for Nigerian leaders to deemphasize party affiliation while in office.
The governor, who addressed Gbajabiamila and Wase as incoming Speaker and Deputy Speaker disclosed that some people had earlier spoken to him on the need for support for Gbajabiamila, also disclosed that the Southeast region must not be excluded by the center.
Saying that the visit was an honour, Umahi noted that the visit was the first that such a large entourage of legislators-elect deemed it necessary to seek his support and that of his State for a project such as that.
He said: “This visit is the first of its kind and that’s the way it should be, we should deemphasize party affiliation because it is capable of denying us the development we needed as we continue to define everything along that line.
“That is why we should pursue whatever that can tie us together”.
The governor said it is not difficult for him to know the kind of person Gbajabiamila is because of the relationships between them while expressing confidence that the business of legislation would be effectively handled in the Assembly if given the opportunity.
The governor admitted that he has come to terms with the political reality on ground that since the Southeast region does not enjoy a majority status in the legislature, it has to align with others for the realization of goals of national development.
He said: “I can assure you that there’s little the region can do but align with the majority but your consultation is welcoming because it shows that other parties have something to offer.
“People may want to ask what is in it for Southeast in all of this because key leadership positions have eluded the region, but I believe if you can’t beat them, join them because we don’t have majority and there’s little we can do if we pull out.
“We need to realize that Southeast is an integral part of this country and must be carried along. It takes two tango and we have a brighter future together”.
He, however, enjoined the team to be above board and always put national interest first when victorious.
“When you get there, let’s deemphasis party affiliation, let’s work for the country because no section can do it alone, we need one another for the survival of this country,” he added.
Earlier, Gbajabiamila said the visit was necessitated by the need to seek the governor’s support and blessing for the leadership contest being a detribalised leader.
While he assured the governor that the team would not let the nation down if successful, Gbajabiamila pointed out that years of legislative experience and dedication to national interest would aid an impactful 9th House of Representatives under his leadership.
“We are not seeking office for the sake of it but to contribute to nation building by using the legislature to better this country,” he noted.

Bull's eye. wirinet: Nigeria is struggling because of visionless and incompetent leadership and docile followership.
You don't discarded a system and start a new one when it's not working properly, you identify the faults and make corrections. Over time the system will get better.
You need to produce competitively to enable you trade (freely) with others, else you will kill the very production base you are trying to help. |

This is coming months after Borno residents complained of lack of power supply. The state govt has built the cheapest, best and biggest solar plant in Africa, beating South Africa and Egyptian large solar plants. At 40MW now and 150MW by 2022, it will supply stable power to their industries. |

Foreign direct investment is different from trade liberalisation. zhike: free trade means Spain companies can set up plant in Nigeria and produce items from Nigeria (note: Nigerians are employed), because the company is from spain it will be charged tariffs. SA companies can set up plant in Nigeria and produce items from Nigeria, because the company is from south africa it will not be charged tariffs.
kindly note that any items that are sold at South Africa they must be approved by SANBS, if items are not approved by SANBS they won't be sold in SA. spain company in Nigeria will be charged tax and also asked to sell some of its shares to local people. hence in the international companies there is tax, it automatically gives local competitors advantage. |

How then do you setup companies without basic infrastructure such as steady electricity? First things first before trade liberalisation cos it will only benefit those who have industralized as against those who haven't. zhike: free trade means Spain companies can set up plant in Nigeria and produce items from Nigeria (note: Nigerians are employed), because the company is from spain it will be charged tariffs. Sharp guy DGynx: Tobi Bakare is one of the ex-housemates of Big Brother Naija (BBN), where he emerged third. Bakare may not have won the reality show, but his name now rings loud in the entertainment industry as one of the new faces attracting attention of corporate brands.
Recently, he made his debut in Kunle Afolayan’s movie, ‘Mokaliki’, an experience Bakare says he hopes to keep building on.
In this interview , Bakare speaks on life after BBN, going into movies and how he plans to keep pushing his brand. Excerpts:
A lot has been happening to you since you left Big Brother Naija (BBN). Though, you didn’t win, you have been making every moment count with your involvement in a couple of projects. How do you feel about the life of fame and attention you are enjoying?
I feel happy and I am proud of how far I have come. The journey has just begun for me and I just want to keep pushing on and take on new opportunities. The fame is good, but that is not the focus for me. I have bigger plans that will be unveiled soon. This is just the beginning of a very long journey.
What kind of life did you picture before the BBN fame?
The fact is that before I got into the Big Brother House, I already had my plans and how to execute these plans. I wanted to do something for myself and be proud of my life afterwards.
I had a good job before BBN. Right now, I am doing something different but the hunger for success is still very big. The feeling is cool but I am not allowing it to get into my head. I just want to concentrate on my job.

Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Alex has called out her very good friend, Tobi Bakre, for not standing up for her and defending her when people said bad things about her.
According to Alex, when they got back from the house, she got a lot of bashing from people, saying Tobi was the one taking care of her because he's from a rich family.
Alex says she expected him to publicly put something out on social media to let people know that was false.
Asked about their relationship currently, she says Tobi and herself are still friends, they fight sometimes and that she doesn’t let him come into her house. But they’re cool and they’re friends.
