TheGoodJoe: Nigeria needs good leadership now. We can not wait for four years. If Sowore won the election, and he did not do well, a revolutionary protest would be welcomed.
This is about us being fed up with poor governance.
Rubbish talk. We are practising democracy, one can not wake up and begin to ask for revolution.
hitng1: Iretiola Doyle has condemned the Nigerian government for deploying armed policemen to discourage unarmed protesters from carrying out a peaceful protest, yet doing nothing to armed bandits who wreak havoc in the country.
Armed policemen and soldiers clashed with unarmed citizens yesterday, August 5, as they set out to begin the planned #RevolutionNow protest. During the clash between uniformed men and citizens, Nigerians were teargassed and one photo purportedly showed a man shot in the leg. Some protesters were also arrested and taken away in a Black Maria.
Also, prior to the protest, Omoyele Sowore - the organiser of the Revolution Now protest and former presidential aspirant - was arrested by the DSS and is still in custody. These, combined, created tension in the country and has been the topic of most conversations.
Reacting to the chaos, actress Iretiola Doyle tweeted; "It doesn't matter where you stand politically, you have to admit (at the very least) that it's a curious case when a nation deploys its security apparatus against unarmed citizens while armed bandits roam free; killing, stealing and destroying at will."
Her tweet quickly went viral and she soon shared a follow-up post that reads: "For the avoidance of doubt and for those who still choose to intentionally misconstrue my words; let me make it abundantly clear: I am not PDP, APC or any of the P's. I am NIGERIAN - Yoruba by birth, Northern by assimilation and Igbo by association."

fergie001: The Trump administration has frozen all Venezuelan government assets in a significant escalation of tensions with socialist leader Nicolás Maduro. It places Washington’s trade relations with the South American country on a par with Cuba, Syria, Iran and North Korea.
The ban on Americans doing business with Venezuela’s government takes effect immediately.
“All property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are in the United States ... are blocked and may not be transferred, paid, exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in,” the executive order says.
The order, signed by President Trump on Monday, cited Maduro’s continued “usurpation” of power and human rights abuses by those loyal to him.
While the order falls short of an outright trade embargo, it represents the most determined US action to remove Maduro since the Trump administration recognised opposition leader Juan Guaidó as Venezuela’s rightful leader in January.
As such, it places Venezuela on par with adversaries such as Cuba, Syria, Iran and North Korea, who have also come under strident US measures.
Previous sanctions have targeted dozens of Venezuelan government insiders as well as the South American nation’s oil industry, the source of almost all of its export earnings.
As part of the executive order, Americans will be banned from engaging in transactions with anyone determined to be assisting Maduro or his government. The same Maduro supporters will also be banned from entering the US.
Exceptions will be allowed for the delivery of food, medicine and clothing. Transactions with Venezuela’s still sizeable private sector do not appear to be affected either.
China and Russia have continued to back Maduro, prompting US national security adviser, John Bolton, to warn the two countries on Monday against doubling down in their support for him.
On Tuesday Bolton, and US Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, represent the United States at the International Conference for Democracy in Venezuela.
The conference is being attended by representatives from more than 50 nations that recognise Guaidó as Venezuela’s president and consider Maduro’s re-election last year to be fraudulent.
Moments after the executive order was announced, Bolton tweeted that he was looking ahead to what he hopes will be a “productive” day in Lima.

akpanoka: The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS on Monday berated Omoyele Sowore and his fellow organizers of the Revolution Now march over ongoing protest, describing their action as akin to a coup against a democratic government.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Zonal Coordinator, NANS Zone A, Umar Farouk Lawal, commended the Department of State Services for its prompt response, stressing that the planned protest would have degenerated if prompt action was not taken.
“For us, there will be no compromise when it comes to putting the nation first over and above any other consideration, it is Nigeria first and Nigeria always.
“It is without doubt that our nation is going through series of challenges ranges from insurgency, banditry to armed robbery and kidnapping resulting from many years of mis-governance, but calling for revolution is akin to coup d’etat against a legitimate government of Nigeria. It is call for chaos and civil unrest to topple the duly democratically elected Muhammadu Buhari led administration.
“Change of government should be via the constitutionally guaranteed means such as through the ballots or impeachment proceedings of the national assembly. As a matter of urgency, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration must come up with other social intervention programmes to complement the existing ones that will empower millions of citizens and lift them out of poverty.”

ChiefkeefGB4: The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, Monday joined other eminent Nigerians, to call for the release of the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, ACC, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, saying such arrest portends grave danger for Nigeria’s democracy. Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams Sowore was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over a planned revolutionary protest scheduled for Monday, August 5 accusing the activist of a plot to force a regime change in the country. But reacting, Aare Adams, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, said the arrest was a huge abuse of human right to freedom, stating that the planned revolutionary protest cannot be said to be treasonable since it was yet to be implemented before he was arrested by the DSS. Police arrest 32 suspected cultists, recover arms in Lagos(Opens in a new browser tab) The Aare faulted the rationale behind the arrest, saying it is unfortunate that Nigerians usually forget events and memories of the past. He noted further that Nigeria’s problems emanated from the military’s dictatorship and tendency to gag the press and prevent freedom of speech and expression. He noted that the planned protest, would have presented Nigerians the needed opportunity to express their feelings to President Muhammadu Buhari. Frowning at the arrest, Adams noted that Nigerians are entitled to express their feelings, so long as the protest remains peaceful, violent – free and it also represents the feelings of Nigerians. He said: “Not everybody can have access to the presidency in Abuja. This is democracy, not militarism, where people are cowed and jailed over issues relating to their welfare. “Sowore is an activist, and he was part of the struggle for this democracy. Therefore, he is entitled to express his feelings and that of Nigerians in a democratic setting” . “I think the FG must consider his freedom as a panacea for peace. For instance, I wonder how a peaceful protest by armless citizens will now turn to a treasonable felony. Pro-biafra groups not part of “revolutionary protest”(Opens in a new browser tab) “It is unfortunate that many of the people at the corridors of power today were part of the protests against former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, but today the situation has changed. “I am afraid they wanted to draw the nation backward to those years of the military, where people’s rights to freedom and other fundamental human rights were alien to the military. “Even in countries that have good institutions and good welfare policies, the citizens still organise peaceful protest and the government will surely listen to them. “As an activist and promoter of peace, I have engaged in various rallies and protests. On each occasions, we consulted widely, taking into considerations so many factors, including the rights of Nigerians to embark on protest, noting also that such rights should not translate to a violent or forceful protest. “Nigeria is a democratic republic, therefore, unlawful detention of a people can lead to further crisis and the Federal Government must try as much as it is possible to avoid this by listening to the cries of Nigerians. “The Federal Government must free Sowore and formulate policy programmes that have direct impact on the mass of the people"

Gazelle22: Sowore’s AAC declares protests across Nigeria August 5
The African Action Congress (AAC) has declared August 5, 2019, the commencement date of revolution protests tagged ‘Days of Rage’ across the country to demand for a better Nigeria.
The presidential candidate of the party in the 2019 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja at the end of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the AAC.
Mr Sowore said that the protest would be sustained until the country is put on the right path of honour where justice will prevail.
He stated that the action of the government compelled them to take the decision noting that there was no level playing field in the last elections.
“Election is a place we would have carried out a revolution of the ballot box but they stole the ballot box. They hijacked materials that was meant for free and fair election and as a result they did not organise any election that was credible enough for people to have faith in the ballot box,” he said.
Mr Sowore who is also a human rights activist maintained that for the country to have free and fair elections in the future, there must be a showdown and people must define who should be their electoral officers.
He said, “The revolution has therefore become inevitable. We didn’t choose to go for revolution they choose it by ensuring that there was no level playing field in the last election.
“As you know they did it in Sudan and it was started by some females. They were making fun of them but they did not stop until doctors joined them, the labour union joined them and what started as 5 people became 5,000 and 500,000 and became 5,000,000 and the regime fell.
“So don’t let anybody deceive you that in asking for a better government or country you are committing any illegality. The biggest illegality being committed in Nigeria as of today is the rigging of election in 2019.
“The moment you don’t allow people to express their God giving rights to choose their leaders, you are committing an illegality and inviting resistance.”
He said that the proposed revolution is inevitable adding that the group has mobilised people in Lagos and many parts of the country to create places of community resistance.
Mr Sowore said the party has succeeded in creating awareness for the people to speak up and be resistant to all form of poor services from the government.
He added that the consciousness being raised among Nigerians was not to promote or encourage violence but to create the culture of resistance in them.
“I am not the only one asking for a revolution; 84% of Nigerian according to a poll we conducted want a revolution. They don’t want war but these people want to drive us into war so that we can all be exterminated at once.
“We don’t want war, we want a very clean, quick and succinct revolutionary process that will put an end to the shenanigans of government, oppression and corruption.
“Don’t ask me weither I am afraid or worried about the legal implications of what I am saying. I am carrying out a historical duty and only history can judge me not a prosecutor or a federal judge. You can’t kill somebody who is not afraid of death,” Mr Sowore said.
agwom: A former minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola has advocated for the introduction of a N10tr infrastructure bond. Fashola spoke on Monday morning when he appeared before the Senate for screening. He is the first ministerial nominee to be screened on the day.
Lamenting the paucity of fund, he said the only way to address the infrastructural challenges facing the country was the introduction of infrastructure bond.He said the bond should be backed by legislative instrument and that people should be able to invest as low as N1,000. He said, in the last four years, the federal government had been operating deficit budget due to paucity of fund.
He said at the moment, the federal government had road projects, at least one, in each state of the Federation. Fashola also disclosed that housing projects were ongoing in 34 out of the 36 states of the Federation.
