We also need to stop hiding behind excuses like “I got cold feet” or “I just changed my mind.” Marriage is a serious decision, and accepting a proposal should never be impulsive. When you say yes, you are telling that person, their family, and society that you are ready to commit. Backing out carelessly is not just emotional damage, it can be legal damage.

That’s why calling off a wedding without a justifiable reason is no longer a simple breakup. It is a breach of promise to marry. And in many legal systems, the injured party can seek compensation for losses suffered, be it financial, emotional, or reputational.

This is especially important because, more often than not, one partner sacrifices more. Some people resign from jobs, relocate, turn down other opportunities, or spend personal savings preparing for marriage. When the wedding is suddenly canceled, they are left to pick up the pieces while the other person moves on freely.

Such a partner should be sued, not out of bitterness, but out of responsibility. Because when promises stop meaning anything, relationships become careless and disposable. If people know there are consequences, they will think twice before making commitments they are not ready to honor.

We need to normalize saying no to proposals. We need to normalize taking time before agreeing to marriage. What we should not normalize is wasting someone’s time, emotions, and resources, then walking away like nothing happened.
If you can’t commit, don’t propose.
If you’re unsure, don’t say yes.
And if you break a promise to marry without reason, be ready to face the consequences, legally and morally.

About time! The Federal Government from all indications and all things considered have not shown sufficient political will and focused commitment to take on insecurity headlong. Our gallant military and paramilitary and volunteers have had to go early graves for that! Christian genocide is more real than imagined but the FG denies it in the open! Interestingly, Malami behind the bar is a major worry for the opposition ADC because he's one of their potential major financiers.
