This is a good topic. Naija govt should consider incentivizing marriage. Instead of us shaming single people into get married.

@OP. You know the ‘big’ tax breaks married folks get in USA is because they paid more taxes combined than a single person paid. I don’t know about other countries, but the new tax reforms that trump passed made it such that you don’t get refunds for having kids but it just reduces your taxable income which at the end only saves you a few hundred dollars per child versus in the past when you could simply get $1000 in returns for each child. Some folks were claiming many dependents and cashing out during tax season.

The health insurance part is a very good perk.
Very true, the 2018 reforms eliminated exemptions for dependents. I agree with you also, marriage should be incentivized in some way in Nigeria.

The OP mentioned important benefits from the Country's Govt while you guys are mentioning benefits from individuals which differs depending on the status of the couples. Well probably most of you don't know how tangible health insurance and tax are in the US. How many of us even pay tax in Nigeria?
very important benefits. The recent stimulus package included $1,200 for singles or $2400 for couples, and $600 for each child in the home, but guess what, some singles got only $600 while married couples got the full $2,400 ($1,200 each) for people in the same salary bracket. It's like being married saves you money

It is not news that there is insecurity as well as political and economic instability in Nigeria.

The person is not asking whether Nigeria is heaven they can come to. If America is so safe, why are they considering coming to Africa?

Are you saying there are no robberies, kidnaps, difficulty doing business in other countries, as it is in Nigeria? Albeit in varying levels.

No more comments.
The lack of investigation for issues like these genuinely worries people over here

There are no countries that are without flaws.

Nigerians have always been known as a happy and hospitable people. Depending on ofcourse (the personality traits) of the people relocating back to Nigeria, they shouldn't have any problems whatsoever, provided they play by the rules of the proverbial jungle. Keep your head down, do your thing without crossing others and don't rub your "oyibo experience" on anyone's face or see yourself as superior to other 'niggas' because you have an accent.

Play your game well, you'll see that Nigeria is Home to Many!

Na Bad government profiting from the insecurities (which is also not non-existent in other countries) that adds a sour taste to our wine.
How do you deal with incidents of robberies, kidnap, high levels of insecurity, difficulty of doing business in Nigeria with changing policies and lack of infrastructure? People are literally discussing about leaving Nigeria before the next election

1: Family, friends and well wishers sprays couples money on the day of their traditional/church wedding,

2: when she puts to bed, some people will come and see her with envelops,

3: on the day of child dedication, another spraying

These are the only financial benefits.
These things happen everywhere though. In some places you get to open the event registry and fill it with actual items you need so people can pick and not come to your event all bringing the same items

You will become Mr and Mrs.
If you go to family meeting, they will respect u. And if you have a male child, When they are sharing land, They will give you a large plot, depending on the quantity they shared.

That's the little I know.
Sharing land and all that makes a lot of sense but not in today's world anymore. Many people today don't have lands waiting for them from their parents

In the US you get big tax breaks and your spouse can be on your health insurance, and if you have kids you get even more benefits. In Canada it's even more especially if you have kids. This makes some people who would ordinarily stay as lovers decide to get married. What benefits do you get in Nigeria for being married? Is there anything the society put in place to encourage or support married couples?
