i can not be too sorry for you, poor PDP.
awhagwan: Forgive me for asking o, but is the commissioner for works utterly brainless and completely stupid? The distance between Langbasa and Baiyeku is probably about 5km at the longest.

How does he plan to fit a 26km bridge into a 5 km space? Does he plan to start it in the Atlantic Ocean and end it on Sagamu road, Ikorodu?

Obviously, these people are mad and dishonest. There is no plan to build any yeye bridge. It's just a very sophisticated con. A scam. Another conspiracy to take 1500 hectares (like Lakowe Lakes) and use it to borrow $362m and still put toll gates on it for another 30 years, thereby completing the imprisonment of the people of Lekki.

How do they plan for the traders on the lower ramp to get to km 13 of the bridge on foot?

Who do they propose will be the customers of those traders? Who in their right minds will WALK 26km from one side of the bridge to the other?

Armed Robbers. I am more convinced now than ever that ACN is the Association of Criminals in Nigeria!!

The Government of Lagos State Nigeria has started the initial phase of the construction of 4th Mainland Bridge, a 26km state of the art bridge designed to link Ikorodu to Eti Osa Local Government Area.

In an interview with THISDAY, Lagos State Commissioner of Works and Infrastructer, Dr Obafemi Hamzat disclosed that there was no problem on the development of the project contrary to speculations that it had been abandoned.

Hamzat, who once served as the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, explained why full work had not commenced on the proposed bridge linking it to a good number of buildings, which he said, would be affected if the old alignment was the state’s preferred option for the right of way.
He explained that the old alignment “is becoming a bit cumbersome because of the number of buildings on the right of way. It might be extremely destructive if we want to follow the old alignment. We might probably need to destroy a lot of good buildings. This option is not fanciful to us. So, we have to look at another right of way.”

He, therefore, acknowledged that consultants “are working on the new right of way. We will look at the cost-benefit analysis of the alignment that will be cost-effective. We are considering if it is better to pay compensation than going through another alignment. The experts are already working on it, and the report will come out soon.”

Hamzat categorically clarified that there was no problem, though explained that people “may not see the physical work at all for now. A bridge is not what we can jump in there and start to build. Then, we will be able to commence full work. But internally, a lot have been going on. The preliminary work has actually started.”

The commissioner, however, declined to give timeline for the completion of the project, citing different issues, which he said, needed to be resolved before the state government could commence work on the bridge in full scale.

He explained the need to meet all the stakeholders and people whose buildings would be affected in order to discuss the issues of compensation and resolve other issues that might lead to litigation while developing the infrastructure.
At this instance, the commissioner said it might be difficult “to determine. That is the truth of the matter. If there are 50 buildings on the right of way, we have to determine their cost. We also need to talk to people that will be affected.

“The fact that the state wants to pay compensation does not mean somebody will not go to court. So, we need to engage internally without people knowing what is happening. We need to know the owners of the buildings. We need to talk to them and arrive at a conclusion. So, it depends on how responsive the people are,” he said.

Business / Scamming In The Name Of Porting by ipasco: 11:43am On Jun 12, 2013
Telecoms consumers under the aegis of National Association of Telecoms Subscribers, NATCOMS, are warming up for a showdown with GSM service providers and the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, over the sharp decline in the quality of telecoms services. The consumer advocacy group is set to forward a strong-worded letter this week to the NCC demanding among others, that the commission immediately places a blanket ban on all promos by all the GSM networks, compel service providers to pay N5,000 compensation to every subscriber for the hardship and losses suffered as a result of the unacceptable poor quality of services, QoS, offered them by the service providers.

As Deolu Ogunbanjo, national president, NATCOMS, put it, telecoms consumers in Nigeria have never had it this bad on account of the embarrassingly poor QoS they are getting from their service providers in recent times. “We (telecoms consumers) have suffered so much; we no longer enjoy the QoS operators are offering us. Our members are meeting next week (Monday, May 27) and at the end of the meeting we would forward a letter to the NCC demanding that the commission bans forthwith all the promos again and also compel the GSM operators to compensate each subscriber to the sum of N5,000 for losses and hardship inflicted on them by the poor QoS offered them,” he told the magazine, blaming the situation on the rash of promos, which congested the networks.

Since the recent launch of Mobile Number Portability, MNP, which allows mobile subscribers to keep their GSM numbers when changing or migrating from one mobile service provider to another, there has been a sharp drop in the quality of telecoms services. At the moment, it is extremely difficult, sometimes impossible for a subscriber to get a call through in just one attempt. The rate of call drops and sometimes, outright service outages have been so high. Due to the congestion on the networks, many subscribers experience call hanging and delayed short message services, SMS, deliveries. In some case, text SMSs are not delivered to intended recipients despite reports indicating that they are delivered. Yet service providers usually charge for undelivered messages and uncompleted calls. Data subscribers are also hit, as users of BlackBerry Internet services are agonising over erratic services. BlackBerry messages, BBM, more popularly called ‘ping’ usually hang undelivered for days.

The rash of promos and freebies by the service providers in the wake of the MNP scheme is believed to be largely responsible for the sudden deterioration of service quality. In their desperation to win the hearts of subscribers wishing to port, all the GSM operators including Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat and MTN are dangling mouth-watering promos and freebies intended to thrill and woo subscribers to their networks. For instance, since Airtel and MTN announced a reward of 500 per cent free airtime for subscribers who spend a specific amount daily, subscribers on the networks have gone on a recharge spree. The two networks promise to credit their customers’ phones with five times the specified amount of credit used for the day with the proviso that the free airtime must be spent before 12 midnight of that day.

Globacom and Etisalat are not left out. The Glo Gista, which offers prepaid tariff plan, rewards a subscriber daily with lower rates for talking more. The subscriber pays 15k per second for intra-network calls (calls to Glo lines) and 30k per second for inter-network calls (calls to other local networks). On its part, Etisalat offers a special amount of free credit and free data to some of its customers. The package gives the customer the opportunity to win handsets every five minutes. The free data and airtime received depend on the package the subscriber uses. However, as subscribers rush to take advantage of the promos and freebies, they end up with regret. Many subscribers who spend their hard-earned money to buy airtime to quality for the wonder bonuses hardly get full value for their money. Instead, the promos aggravated the poor service quality offered them by the service providers.

The deluge of promos is as a result of the lifting of the ban on all promotions on Airtel, Globacom and Etisalat by the NCC. By lifting the ban, experts and stakeholders say that the NCC opened the floodgate for another round of promos by telecoms operators who are desperate to sign on more subscribers without recourse to the capacities of their networks to carry the expected increase in the volume of calls. Since the beginning of the promos, QoS has gone from bad to worse to the extent that people hardly get a call connected.

Ironically, the latest round of agonising experience of subscribers with QoS offered comes on the heel of claims of recovery efforts by service providers as wells as past regulatory interventions by the NCC. For instance, over $2.24 billion, N347 billion, investment is said to have gone into various network expansion projects by service providers in 2012 alone. While MTN invested $1.4 billion on network upgrades in 2012, Etisalat invested $194 million in the building of about 1,000 base stations by the end of December 2012. This is in addition to the 3,000 base transceiver stations, BTS, the company already has. On the other hand, Airtel invested $600 million on its network while Globacom also signed a $6 million contract with Ceragon in March 2012.

However, Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of these huge investments in terms of improvements in the quality of networks, a development that has fuelled suspicions that the mobile operators are merely pulling the wool over the eyes of Nigerians, as they may not be investing as much as they are claiming.

Embarrassed by the latest sudden decline in the QoS, particularly after past regulatory interventions restored some level of sanity in the industry, the NCC last week, wrote to all the network operators to explain why service quality has suddenly crashed. Tony Ojobo, director, public affairs, NCC, said that the commission had been inundated with complaints over the sudden decline in service quality hence the service providers are expected to explain why the situation has gone from bad to worse. “We have observed that the service quality has gone down again. We have received complaints from subscribers who said they have tried to do one thing or the other on the networks, which was futile. Based on these complaints, NCC has asked the operators to explain why the situation is so. We are not stopping at that; we are also deploying our engineers to test their facilities,” Ojobo said.

As far as telecoms experts and analysts are concerned, the NCC may look no further than the barrage of promos by operators and the implementation of MNP for factors responsible for the situation. At first, the consequence of the wonder promos, as has been the case in the past, is that networks may have been compromised on account of the pressure from subscribers scrambling to take advantage of the promos. But Ojobo explained that the ban was lifted because the three service providers met the regulatory body’s December 2012 key performance indicators, KPIs, standards set to measure service quality across networks. He, however, said that the ban placed on promotions on MTN remained in force until the KPIs are met. According to him, MTN was yet to meet the commission’s KPI test, two months after the announcement of the ban. He disclosed that the NCC was looking at the networks to determine if its decision to lift the ban caused the disruption in services.

Save for swelling the purse of media organisations as telecoms operators storm various media platforms to advertise the robustness of their networks for subscribers wishing to port, MNP has so far proved to be a flop. The last one month has seen operators thrilling subscribers with exciting television and radio jingles, the most popular being the MTN MNP advert in which Hafiz Oyetoro, popularly called Saka, a comedian and actor, is the major character. The TV commercial that has since gone viral on social media, with Saka dressed in a green traditional attire depicting his long-term endorsement of the Etisalat brand. Saka later transformed into bright yellow attire as he leads a music band encouraging subscribers to join him as he migrates or ports to MTN. In doing so, Saka shocked not a few subscribers of Etisalat when he dumped the company and pitched his tent with rival MTN. Other operators have since joined the fray, also engaging outdoor platforms such as billboards, claiming to be the best network for subscribers.

As exciting as such entertainments are, close watchers of the industry see them as merely diversionary, unable to address the critical issue of service quality agitating the minds of subscribers. This means that the sudden decline in the QoS put a lie to claims of readiness of the networks to accommodate MNP. Besides, that MNP would, among others, broaden the choice available to subscribers and improve the QoS has fallen flat. This is so because the ultimate criteria for porting to any network are the QoS offered by the receiver network and of course, price/tariff. But at the moment, no subscriber can vouch for any of the networks when it comes to quality of service, which is why many Nigerians are not too eager to port. So far, over 4,000 subscribers have ported, according to the NCC. Although, NCC said at an event to mark the World Telecoms Day on May 17, that the number is encouraging, considering the fact that the awareness is just catching on, many people believe that the number is rather too small given the country’s subscriber base of over 114 million.

Many subscribers who spoke with the magazine last week said that all the networks are currently under-performing hence they do not see the need to port. Besides, the fact that Nigerians have, in a way, been porting even before MNP may also explain subscribers’ apathy towards the scheme. For instance, as far as Damilola Adebambi, a Political Science student of University of Lagos, is concerned, he has already ported, having switched SIM cards from among three networks depending on the one that serves him well at the time.

Some subscribers are known to carry one phone but four SIM cards. Some people even carry two dual SIM phones and four SIM cards from four mobile operators. Virtually all the mobile phone makers such as Nokia, Samsung, and LG, among others, have introduced dual SIM phones into the Nigerian market. Even Techno Mobile, a relatively new entrant into the market, has upped the ante, introducing a four-SIM mobile phone.

But Ogunbanjo thinks differently. He believes that MNP is not a flop, as the scheme has given subscribers ready-made choices. “It is a win-win situation for subscribers,” he insisted, urging NCC to intensify efforts at consumer awareness of the scheme through radio and television jingles in local languages. He disclosed that between now and the end of the year, the three consumer outreach programmes namely Telecoms Consumer Parliament, Telecoms Consumer Outreach, and Telecoms Consumer Town Hall Meeting would focus on MNP as a way of creating more awareness of the scheme.

Whether increased awareness campaign would make MNP work remains to be seen particularly now that allegations of underhand practices are rife in the industry, with donor operators appearing not to be disposed to quickly processing and releasing the lines to the receiving operators. Also, NCC is yet to determine whether the lifting of the ban on promos is responsible for the sharp decline in QoS. What is, however, clear is that until these issues are addressed, subscribers would continue to scream blue murder over poor QoS offered by service providers.

Here's an article I read and found interesting. Written by publicist and entertainment business consultant, James Silas. Read the article below and share your thoughts afterwards.

D'banj Goes Down Low - By James Silas

Two years ago, it would have been almost impossible for D’Banj to do a collaboration with an Olamide even if the latter had attained this much attention with his music, but today D’Banj is struggling for another hit since “Oliver Twist”.

Once upon a time (October 14, 2010), I tweeted “Partnerships can hardly work, not unless you’re a duo like Don Jazzy and D’Banj”… this tweet was “favourited” by Don Jazzy. Then two years later (2012), the statement returned to me – void!

A D’BANJ topic at this point in time would arouse mixed feelings, especially amongst and within fans and pundits. Many would never come to an agreement while some would rather rest the case for another day. We cannot rule out the fact that most people including yours truly are yet to phantom the reality that the ‘Koko Master’ and his erstwhile buddy, Don Jazzy are no longer together – A creative and business divorce.

The breakup cleared arguments about Don Jazzy as a major influence and source of the quality and quantity of music that came from D’Banj. The source of the music was the least of my problem – I just loved what I heard from production to vocals and lyrics. Everything was fine. There’s no point going into the obvious – we all know the breakup story. The last song that was officially promoted on Mo’hits was “Oliver Twist”. It was and still is a monster hit across the world.

Before the rise of Mo’hits, D’Banj released his first set of songs “Kiss Me Again” ft. Ruggedman, “One More Time” and “Gba Si Be” ft. Abounce on OJB’s Silver Tones’ imprint.

The advent of Mo’hits and the growth of the D’Banj brand only gave ‘collabo access’ to label mates and close friends like Ikechukwu (Whine Am Well), Kas (Fimile Remix) and Banky W (Lagos Party Remix). The dynasty was very rigid in collaboration-related matters. We weren’t sure if it was Don Jazzy’s plot to protect D’Banj’s creative weakness or the latter’s personal choice. However, the release of “Mr. Endowed Remix” with Snoop Dogg in 2010 and the Kanye West-Good Music merger confirmed that D’Banj was not about the local league. He had a bigger dream.

Going over the changes that has transpired after Mo’hits’ breakup will be over-flogging the issue. A significant change on D’Banj’s side is his sudden presence on other artiste’s songs. The first was “Bad Pass (Tony Montana)” by Naeto C, followed by Iyanya’s “Kukere Remix”. The fact that these songs were already solo hits made his input less relevant especially at a time when fans and the industry at large expect more. Fally Ipupa was featured on “We The Best”, off D’Banj’s DKM Album, but the arrangement made it sound like D’Banj was the one featured.

So D’Banj is also cutting in on Olamide’s recent buzz and they have a song that will be released any time soon. I reckon this is a strategy of some sort to either sustain relevance or a random attempt to cop another hit outside Don Jazzy’s works.

The last Nation’s Cup, placed him on the Continent’s spotlight again but instead of unveiling a new song on that platform, he continues with the Don Jazzy produced “Oliver Twist”. In my opinion, the “Scape Goat Remix” with Kanye West is a waste of an opportunity. Additions like that are done when you are just paying (one off) for the guy to voice a verse or two on your already made song, but when you are a signed artiste on Good Music (especially when it’s a paid merger), creative time should be spent on a song for the sake of the fans and listening community.

Maybe it’s too early to expect much from D’Banj but I am worried for him already. This is a man who has three flawless albums and countless hit songs on his belt. Everything he touched in the past was gold and if one artiste was literally way ahead of his time, it was D’Banj. He is the only artiste who would drop his Glo Ambassadorship due to complications from renewal talks and fee. Even at that, the guy was not blabbing when he said “I make 10 million in a week…” on “Gbono Feli Feli” (2008). He is still one of the most awarded artistes of the last decade. I mean, if he drops the music today, his achievement may not be surpassed in years to come.

The mass influx of sounds and artistes in Nigeria today is enough to distract the most loyal of fans. Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie already has a lot of fans in Nigeria; same way new artistes are sprawling up every day to have a share of the cake.

I don’t how long we will have to wait for D’Banj but if the collaborations are intentional and strategic to fuel his relevance – let’s file! Don’t touch it!

Why is it so difficult and in some cases impossible for guys to forgive when our woman cheats on us? No matter how much we men love a woman, once she cheats, it's usually over! Why?

Guys cheat all the time and women forgive. But when it's reversed, we don't forgive. Why? Is it our ego?
