Chelsea will be looking to bring resurgent London rivals Crystal Palace back down to earth in Saturday’s London derby at Stamford Bridge. Tony Pulis has galvanised Palace by masterminding victories over West Ham and Cardiff City to raise hopes that they can avoid relegation. Chelsea beat Steaua Bucharest on Wednesday night to seal top spot in UEFA Champions League Group E and now turn their attention to the Premier League. Jose Mourinho's side suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at Stoke City last weekend, missing an opportunity to move into second place and cut the gap to leaders Arsenal to only two points. The former Real Madrid boss said it was mission accomplished in Europe after the victory over Steaua and reiterated that his main objective in the Premier League is to secure a Champions League spot. He said: "The only target was to not win the Europa League again and that target is done, "Now we have to do the best we can in the Champions League. edi287: Bosnia should not be overlooked, they have a good strikeforce that could cause us problems. Iran have a good coach but very poor team. As usual Argentina will whoop us(anyone who thinks otherwise is dreaming). Still cant complain....its way better than Ghana's group. The match against bosnia will be very important.argentina are not invincible. dont forget that, they usually use one goal to beat us. we've met argentina so many times, and we've learned. this time, we are winning |

The Super Eagles remain fourth in Africa despite dropping to the thirty-sixth position in the world Nigeria’s senior national team has dropped three places to 36th in the latest Fifa world ranking released on Thursday despite not losing any of their two games in the month under review. The African champions were adjudged the 33rd best football playing team in the world according to the ranking released earlier in October. Meanwhile Cote d’Ivoire remain at the summit of African football with 918 points which put them in the 17 position in the world while Ghana retained their 24 spot in the world and second in Africa. Algeria took the third spot on the continent after amassing 800 points which places them in the 26 spot in the world. However, the Ethiopian national team that lost to the Super Eagles on both legs of the Fifa World Cup qualifying play-offs moved two places up the ladder. South Africa could not gain from their 1-0 friendly win over Spain last week after Fifa ruled the match out of its ranking profile following the world champions' use of a seventh substitution in the game. Bafana remain in 61st spot. Spain, Germany and Argentina hold the first, second and third spots in the world respectively as Fifa Confederations Cup champions Brazil moved to the tenth position in the world. The next ranking will be released on December 19, 2013. www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4093/nigeria/2013/11/28/4439501/nigeria-drop-to-36th-in-latest-fifa-ranking?ICID=HP_TS_1 |

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has left 10 first-team players at home for his side's Europa League Group K match against Tromso. Kyle Walker, Hugo Lloris, Paulinho, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon, Sandro and Younes Kaboul have been rested. Togolese forward Emmanuel Adebayor (groin), Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane (back) are injured. Youth players Ryan Fredericks, Kenneth McEvoy, Laste Dombaxe and Shaquile Coulthirst are in the squad. "Obviously it will be completely different from the first match at White Hart Lane," Tottenham forward Gylfi Sigurdsson said, referring to the 3-0 win in September. "We all know how cold it is out there and we're playing on an artificial pitch, but it's up to us to get the job done and try to secure first place in the group. "Tromso have been in a relegation battle, they've finished their season and they will be looking to put on a show against us. We have to be aware of that and make sure we do our jobs." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25128270 |

EBSU DARES ASUU, RESUMES TOMORROW ABAKALIKI – THE Management of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, EBSU, Monday announced that academic activities would resume in all the campuses of the institution on Tuesday, 26th November, 2013. It also ordered lecturers and students of the institution to return to classes following the inability of the Academic Staff Union of University, ASUU to end it over four months strike in the country. In a statement signed by the Registrar of the institution, Mr Sam N. Egwu, it stressed that the institution had resolved to commence academic activities not minding the disagreement existing between ASUU and the Federal government. “Having waited patiently for Federal Government and ASUU to resolve the impasse behind the over four months strike embarked upon by the Union to no avail, the management of EBSU has resolved to re-open classes for learning to commence on Tuesday, the 26th day of November, 2013. “We therefore inform all concerned that teaching and learning will begin fully on Tuesday, 26th, November, 2013. This is to enable us cover what we have lost to the strike,” the statement read. Vanguard learnt that the resolution was the outcome of the meeting held last week by the management of the institution including lecturers where 80% of the lecturers in attendance agreed that they should ignore the ASUU Nationwide strike and return back to class. Contacted, the EBSU-ASUU Chairman, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi dissociated the ASUU chapter of EBSU from the purported reopening by the management and maintained that the strike was still in progress until they get directive from their national leadership. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/11/ebsu-dares-ASUU-resumes-tomorrow/ |
SEVEN suspected robbers were shot dead, Sunday, along the notorious Benin by-pass, during a gun battle between the police and the robbers. The operation was personally led by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Folusho Adebanjo. At press time, the CP and a special squad of detectives were still combing the area popular referred as haven for robbers. Some of the robbers, according to CP Adebanjo, were still in the bushes with bullet wounds. As at 10:30am when the bodies of the dead policemen were brought to the Edo State Police Command, one of the robbers who identified himself as Sanda from KebbiState, was still alive and he confessed that he only joined his dead colleagues for the first time, because he needed money to go back to KebbiState. One AK 47, cutlasses and assorted charms were recovered from the armed bandits. It would be recalled that passengers and drivers have been robbed almost on daily basis along the Benin by- pass, while in most cases the women among the passengers were raped by the armed bandits who are mainly Hausa Fulanis. However, Adebanjo who is known for his zero tolerance as regards activities of robbers in the state narrated that "this operation took place at about 5:30-6am. Because we noticed that arm robbers who operate there always come out early hours when people are travelling or going to the market for their businesses so we. Their activities along that by-pass have become an embarrassment and with intelligence which we gathered, we laid an ambush. "What happens is that they normally come with a bus where they load themselves and when they get to the by-pass they distribute themselves to different locations to perpetrate their evil. You will look at the bus as an old one, may be you will even think they are going to the farm but they are dare devil armed robbers. "You that the by-pass leads to different states but unfortunately these hoodlums made that place haven for operation. So we stormed there this morning following a tip off, we met them and enged them. They engaged us too the result is what you are looking at now. Some of them are still in the bushes with bullet wounds, my men are still there pushing them and I am going back there myself because we are going to round all of them up. "Armed robbers cannot be safe anywhere in Edo state. That is the message we have for them throughout this festive period and next year" he asserted. www.naij.com/news/52801.html |

The 32-team field for next summer's World Cup 2014 has been set, and now the focus shifts to December's draw and the unique selection process that will determine the make-up of all eight groups ahead of next year's tournament in Brazil. Five-time World Cup champions Brazil are the host nation and will therefore join the seven- best ranked qualified teams in Pot 1. As a result, Brazil won't have to face fellow favorites like Spain, Germany or Argentina until the knockout stage. Meanwhile, the United States will await their fate in Pot 2, which means the Americans will likely draw one of the world's football giants. The U.S. could be really unlucky and draw either the Netherlands or Italy from Pot 4 in addition to one of the favorites. The 32 qualified squads will be split up into four pots consisting of eight teams each. Pot 1, also known as the seeded pot, will include the host nation Brazil as well as the top-seven ranked countries as rated in FIFA's October 2013 rankings. The other three pots are determined by region. The second pot will likely consist of AFC (Asia) and CONCACAF (North America, Central America and Caribbean) qualifiers, while Pot 3 will be made up of qualifying CAF (Africa) teams, CONMEBOL (South America) teams and one UEFA (Europe) qualifier as no team from the OFC (Oceania) secured a berth. The final pot will include remaining UEFA qualifiers, including World Cup 2010 runners-up Holland, who missed out on the seeded pot by just two points in the rankings. The process will then be repeated seven more times. Therefore, Group A will consist of Brazil from Pot 1, one team from Pot 2, one from Pot 3 and one from Pot 4. www.bleacherreport.com/articles/1861476-world-cup-2014-draw-explaining-pots-seedings-format-and-selection-process |
