Most dangerous drugs produced in Anambra – DG, NDLEA, Roli Bode-George The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has declared that the most dangerous drugs circulated in the country are produced in Anambra State. The state NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, who made the declaration on Saturday at the Women’s Development Centre in Awka to mark the 2015 United Nations Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking, identified one of the dangerous drugs produced in the state as methamphetamine Momodu expressed worry over the increasing production of illicit drugs, abuse and trafficking in the state and called for a concerted effort to stop the development. He disclosed that the anti-drug abuse and trafficking agency arrested at least 122 drug suspects between January and June this year. While 114 of them were men, eight were women. A total of 110.624kg of illicit drug, he said, was seized during the period under review with cannabis sativa known as marijuana topping with 107.26kg. Other seizures were cocaine, 138.2 grammes, heroine, 100.54grammes, liquid methamphetamine 2.615kg and solid methamphetamine 510 grammes. The NDLEA commander said the agency also arraigned 22 suspects during the period, out of which eight convictions were obtained while 28 fresh cases were filed. He expressed optimism that the agency would fight drug abuse and trafficking in the state, asking stakeholders to join hands in the campaign against drug abuse. Anambra State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu Momodu warned that if the war against illicit drug use and trafficking “is not won now, the scourge will take over the society soonest.” He lauded the state Governor, Willie Obiano, for the support he had given to the agency, especially involving it in the State Security Council and the approval of a parcel of land in Awka, the state capital, for the building of the agency’s rehabilitation centre. Momodu, however, called for the inauguration of the state Drug Control Committee to help drive national drug control plans and objectives. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jesophat Akabuike, who represented the governor at the event, restated the state’s commitment to the fight against crime in the state, including drug abuse and trafficking. |
Radio Biafra’s “Hate” Messages Can Instigate Civil War II, Rwandan Genocide In Nigeria The emergence of Radio Biafra’s account on Twitter has drawn attention to their broadcasts that, subsequently, generated public concern. The Naij.com columnist ‘Yomi Kazeem draws parallels between Nigeria and Rwanda’s history; Rwandan genocide, he reminds, also stemmed from seemingly ‘harmless’ radio messages of hate and secession propaganda. This article expresses the author’s opinion only. The views and opinions expressed here do not necessarily represent those of Naij.com or its editors. In 1994, the Rwandan genocide resulted in the loss of around 20% of the total population of the country. Widely condemned for its brutality, the genocide targeted the Tutsi population of Rwanda for a fierce 100-day period of violence that reshaped the country’s history. One of the main causes of the violence which led to the death of hundreds of thousands was the establishment of Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines [RTLMC; French for “One Thousand Hills Free Radio and Television,” as Rwanda is often described as “the land of a thousand hills”] in 1993. Projecting hate speech and propaganda against the Tutsis, the radio station played a critical role in contributing to the tensions and incited a significant amount of hostility. In 2003, the executives of RTLMC were sentenced to prison by a UN tribunal for their role in the genocide. All of the above highlights just how devastating the effects of hate speech (and media) can be, and, with the recent emergence of Radio Biafra on social media, it seems critical for Nigerians to revisit that sad part of Rwanda’s history. Radio Biafra is led by a group of people who seemingly think that despite the events of the Civil War, calling for secession of the South-East is still an achievable target. Their calls, however, are laced with hate speech and exhortations for ‘war,’ with one of the main proponents reportedly comparing himself to Adolf Hitler. Predictably, it has come become a raging subject on social media platforms, with many South-Easterners, whom Radio Biafra claims to represent, denouncing the station and its messages. However, and unsurprisingly, there are some who have endorsed the messages of Biafra Radio – and therein lies the danger. The media has always played a powerful role in influencing thoughts and actions, and with the emergence of social media as a tool of mass engagement, hate speech can catch on much quicker. That makes media like Biafra Radio even more dangerous. In a country like Nigeria, which has a turbulent history of ethnic-driven violence as well as riots, and still struggles with tribal sentiments even within homogeneous groups, the prospect of a tool that generates more tension is menacing. If the world needed an example of how race- and tribe-driven sentiments can cause real damage even in the new age, the shooting of nine black people in a historic church in Charleston, South Carolina, by a young white man who apparently believed in “white supremacist ideals” was a timely reminder that there will always be situations where people believe fully in such philosophies and will go to extra, and dangerous, lengths just to make a statement. Drop Your Opinion ON This issue..... Between TB Joshua and Chris Oyakhilome who is right on This Issue concerning ABORTION........... Pastor Chris Oyakhilome said it wasn’t a sin to abort a baby who is the product of rape”” “No child should be brought into this world by force, if a lady has been raped, it is left for her to make a decision of whether to keep the baby or not.” Pastor TB Joshua disagrees as he answered the question on his official Facebook page “Committing an abortion when you are raped is a double sin. …God often uses foolish things to express Himself. Many great people and heroes today are products of this background. In any way, in any circumstance you find yourself in today as you are reading this note, you have not committed any unpardonable sin. Nigerian banks ahead US, S/ Africa, Europe, Australia, Canada in quality. …seen as largest market for Retail Banking Academy Nigerian banks rank well in the world in terms of their overall quality, according to Lafferty Bank Rat- ings, which scores banks world- wide for their overall quality. A cross border comparison shows that Nigeria ranks about 34.0, higher than South Africa which ranks 30.0, Canada 23.0, US 20.0, Australia 22.0, and Eu- rope 18.0. Nigerian banks financial ra- tios are particularly good and their overall ratings will improve considerably when they devote more attention to the qualitative aspects of their annual reports – including clear statements on their strategies (and how they will be achieved), culture, customer satisfaction and so forth, Mi- chael Lafferty, chairman, Lafferty Group said in Lagos yesterday. Lafferty who was delivering a paper at the Annual Guest Lec- ture organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN),further said Nigerian banks are at about the same stage of development in retail banking as their Indonesian counterparts, though they lag when it comes to cards and payments. However, Nigerian banks future potential lies primarily in retail banking, he said. On the other hand, Nigeria is said to be the largest market for Retail Banking Academy (RBA), accounting for around 20 per- cent of the current body of RBA candidates. The Retail Banking Academy was launched in 2011, in re- sponse to the request by client banks all over the world who had been complaining for years that profesional retail banking education was not available Presently, over 5,000 bankers in some 80 countries are studying for the Academy qualifications in retail banking and cards and payments. The designations are Certified Retail Banker (CRB) and Certified Cards and Payments Professional (CCPP). Nigeria already has one fully qualified Certified Retail Banker, who has successfully completed the requirements to achieve full certification. In the coming year, that num- ber will potentially rise to 30 and in two years’ time, Nigeria will have up to 74 Certified Retail Bankers working in the sector, Lafferty said. “We are now entering another phase in this market – and are proud to be partnering with the CIBN to bring world-class retail banking education to the entire industry in Nigeria. We have similar partnerships in many other countries and all are contributing to the mission of professionalis- ing retail banking around the world”, he said. Senior retail bankers from 14 African countries who met in Cape Town last week, agreed to establish Retail Banking Coun- cils for Africa (RBCA) with the aim of promoting the develop- ment of retail banking across the continent – particularly through the growth of deposits and bank- ing penetration. Speaking on the theme, “How competitive Nigeria is in the global retail banking landscape”, Lafferty said retail banking can only reach its full potential if it is run through a separate bank – whether this be stand-alone or within a broader banking group. If it is part of the latter, the group CEO must also be a believer, he observed. “Nigeria is now well-placed for the take-off of transparent con- sumer lending. Central bankers should build on this by learning as much about retail banking, as you already know about the capi- tal markets, investment banking and corporate banking. “Study the lessons of the many banking crises we have been through, reflect on how other (wholesale) financial in- dustry cultures can corrupt retail banking and do great damage to society, and put Nigeria on the road to having the world’s first truly professional retail banking system”, he said. |
Phone hacking: How to detect if phone is compromised In this sequel to our report about the new craze for phone hacking by jealous lovers, who keep tabs on their partners in Nigeria, published on June 6, 2015, experts give opinions on a number of symptoms one should look out for in detecting whether one’s phone has been compromised The capabilities of Nigerians are growing in terms of technology and skills and along with these is the ability to wreak havoc, experts have said. According to the President, Information Technology Systems and Security, Mr. Rogba Adeoye, despite the good that comes with any e-process, it comes with a cost. “Everything is transferred through the airspace, whether it is phone or email. All of us are in danger because we use this technology. If you know how to code, you can break into anybody’s phone. It is like locking your room and keeping the phone in your pocket, a burglar who wants to steal something can find a way in. It means anybody is prone to hacking,” Adeoye said. He explained that the technology of the phone is such that it is routed through a server with the service provider. Each of the telecommunication companies in Nigeria controls these servers. “For anyone to be able to hack into your phone, they must be able to obtain your root number with your service provider,” he said. Head of Operations, GMT Nigeria, Mr. Lawore Olorunfemi, who is an ethical hacker, said to confirm if one’s phone has been hacked or not, the first point of call should be one’s outgoing email. He said, “Check your outgoing mails to see if any mail has been sent, which you knew nothing about. That would show that probably a spyware has been installed and is sending everything you do on your phone to a particular email address. There is also the need to check the settings of your mail server to see if anything is different. “Another thing to do is to check if there is any application that has been installed on your phone that you did not put there. Uninstall such application immediately. “If your phone is suddenly using huge internet bandwidth that you cannot explain, then know that there is an unsolicited activity going on in the phone. If your data finishes on time and your network provider says it is from your phone, then it may have been hacked. The first thing to do is to go to your application managers and start uninstalling applications that you did not put there.” Other experts have also suggested that when one’s phone battery drains inexplicably or one’s device starts acting strangely, these may be symptoms that it may have been hacked. Suggesting more ways of avoiding susceptibility to hacking, Olorunfemi said phone users need to install a remote wipe application on their mobile phones. He said there are more dangerous hackers that one should be more wary of than jealous lovers. The hacker said, “For those who use the BlackBerry, you can simply log on to your BlackBerry user account online and wipe your phone as an emergency strategy if it is stolen. “Do not download applications from websites that are not on the official BlackBerry or android stores. Some of them are meant to hack into one’s phone. “Blogspots and pornographic websites have a high tendency of putting spyware on user’s phones. Sometimes you open a page and it would want to install something on your device or system. What you do in such a case is to stop such thing from download immediately. Most of them are spyware.” “Then, think twice before opening links online because it might be a link to spyware that would automatically be installed on your device. All the links that are sent to you via email have the potential of compromising the security of your device. Hackers prey on the inquisitiveness of people. Most of the things advertised on social media are also very risky sources of spyware.” He also suggested that one could also encrypt one’s phone and also download a genuine file locker application. “On the BlackBerry for instance, there is the encryption option. Use the file locker application to import applications like your mail, photographs, chat application and banking software, so that they can’t be accessed remotely. Most of these things are easy to do. Also lock your file explorer. Always lock your screen lock to minimal time,” Olorunfemi said. In case one’s phone is confirmed to have been hacked, experts say the solution is to download a mobile security application that is genuine from big brand names such as Google, Play Store, Apple App Store, and the Amazon App Store, which will identify a malicious application and delete it. |
Ladies of nowadays would never seize to amuse me. They hold the most expensive phones and because they know the worth of those phones, if you check the phones, they are well covered with a phone- cover. Check the screen, it's well guarded with a screen guard. Some go around with Samsung galaxy Tabs and iPads all well guarded and protected! Check even the keys, they are well protected with a keypad- protector. But ironically, theese ladies walk all over the streets with their bodies well exposed. WHY ?... It's either thephones are worth more than your bodies or you are yet to recognize your worth as a woman... So I wish to know; which one is more valuable, The phones, ipads, tabs or your body? Your naked body can only attract irresponsible guys who will use your body to satisfy their sexual needs but it will not attract a husband or real men out there, take it or leave it that's the bitter truth so re- evaluate and set you priority right. |

MARRIAGE COUNSELLING The rate at which marriages collapse now is assuming a social status symbol in our society. In no-time, people will be throwing divorce parties and invite friends and well- wishers to celebrate their divorce anniversaries; they will choose aso-ebi, hire a hall and popular musicians & what have you. Even a question like "So when are you getting divorced?" will become common. If you know you can't handle the weight and pressures of marriage, please remain single. If you don't know what marriage is all about, please remain single until you do. If you are getting married because of the things you desire or hope to gain from the other person, please remain single. If you know you can't be faithful, remain single. If you can't endure insults from one another, please remain single. If you can't forgive one another's wrongs, please remain single. If you can't place your spouse above every other human being, please remain single! Don't get married out of desperation. "All my friends are getting married" is the most foolish reason to get married! If you desire a successful home, but your choice of friends are forces not to reckon with, think again. Be very mindful of where you go for advices, many would give, but not many mean well! Guys, if you know you can't put your wife ahead of your ego, please remain single till you're mature. Your wife is your priority and EVERYTHING else including you, comes last. You are the teacher, the guide, the bodyguard, the role model - you are not a deity or God. So do not expect to be worshipped. You need respect, earn it by being responsible! Ladies, if you know you can't be submissive, please don't go into marriage so that you're not turned to a punch bag! If you know you can't stand being corrected, please remain single. Mr/Mrs I know it all!!! Ladies check your domestic scorecard - if your score is 0, please stay in your parents' house! People, please make your marriages work. Read carefully and share it with others. It doesn't matter if you are Married or Not. Marry for love, marry your friend & put God first. Shalom!" |

The iPhone will track how often you have sex When your iPhone updates to iOS 9 in the fall, you'll be able to track your reproductive health -- including how often you have sex and whether or not you used protection. As part of its upcoming iOS 9 release, Apple will launch a new set of HealthKit features that will let you log information about menstrual cycles and specific physical changes, such as basal body temperature, cervical mucus quality, and spotting. There will also be a way for people to track sexual activity in the pre-installed app. You can even input ovulation test results. Apple keeps that data private by default, but you can choose to send it to your doctor or anonymously provide your information to universities and physicians for research studies. There are no shortage of gizmos and apps already in the app store that track reproductive health data, and the updated HealthKit app will work with those apps and devices as well. Apple is set to bundle these functions under its new "Reproductive Health" brand, which the company unveiled Monday morning during its World Wide Developers Conference. Apple is making more of an effort to develop software for female users -- an area it had previously overlooked. If you're eager to try out the new feature, a preview of iOS 9 will be available for the general public to test in July._CNN |
Dangote opens 2.5 million mta cement plant in Ethiopia With a prospect of about 7000 job opportunities in Ethiopia, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote yesterday opened his 2.5million mtpa cement plant with a charge on African leaders to make environment conducive for the growth of real sector as a sure way of creating jobs to reduce poverty in the continent. Dangote, who was speaking shortly before the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Dessalegn cut the tape to inaugurate the plant said that achieving a real economic integration in Africa would require that Africans work together to ensure economic and political stability on the continent. Aliko Dangote Besides, he stated that conscious efforts must be made to break down the barriers and borders between countries so as to allow free flow of goods, services and people. Dangote stressed the need for a genuine collaboration between the private sector and governments at all levels for the much needed real sector growth, noting that there must be deliberate efforts to encourage Africans, not just foreigners alone, to invest in Africa. “Take for example, my company, the Dangote Cement is currently investing in 16 African countries, with plans to invest in many more over the next few years. There are a number of other successful pan-African brands today such as MTN, Shoprite and Ecobank. We need to encourage this trend to see more investments in Africa by Africans. “Above all, there is the need to encourage the private sector to collaborate with governments across Africa, to address the issue of infrastructure deficit, which has plagued the continent for decades”, he advised. Said he: “I believe that manufacturing, and not trading, is the best way to grow an economy. This event, which we are witnessing today, attests to the fact that we took the right decision when we decided to transit from trading in our home country, Nigeria, into manufacturing, in 1996. “Dangote Cement is currently simultaneously setting up new cement plants and terminals across 16 African countries, including Ethiopia. This is in line with our long-term vision to become one of the world’s biggest cement producers. We envisage that by the time we complete all our ongoing African projects, we will be on track to achieving our target.” He explained that the various developmental projects, including the construction of the continent’s largest hydro- power dam, makes Ethiopia a beautiful bride to investors. While commending the government and appreciating the country’s remarkable economic achievement, Dangote said that the favourable investment climate together with abundant raw materials and sustainable peace attracted him to invest in Ethiopia. According to him, in addition to supplying 2.5 million metric tonnes of cement per annum to the market, Dangote Cement Plant has also created direct employment for about 2,000 people in the main plant operation and 5,000 indirect job opportunities. Inaugurating the Dangote Cement Plant established with over 600 million USD direct investment in Muger Town, Prime Minister Hailemariam said Ethiopia representing a lucrative market, is a destination of choice for investors with a population of well over 95 million people and a growing middle class. According to the Premier, with the government’s focus on harnessing the competitive and comparative economic advantages of the country, Ethiopia is ready to host more and more quality investments that leave a positive mark on its non-stopping development journey. He said his government has been taking all the necessary measures to make the country suitable for foreign investment and adequately conducive for local investors. “I am hopeful that the continued interest and presence of self-made industrialists such as Alhaji Dangote in investment projects in Ethiopia’s diverse sectors and their successful experience can and should go a long way in encouraging local investment”, Hailemariam enthused. Ethiopian Industry Minister, Ahmed Abetew said the importance of industry for sustainable development could not be over emphasized and that was why the government has accorded the sector a priority. He expressed the hope that the involvement of Dangote in the cement industry in Ethiopia will play a significant role in cement production. It would be recalled that the construction of the cement factory commenced in 2012. Lying on 134 hectares of land, the factory which has a capacity to produce 2.5 million tons of cement annually is constructed by Sinoma International Engineering, a giant Chinese construction firm. |

Stay away from Nigeria, NANS tells Jacob Zuma President Jacob Zuma The National Association of Nigerian Students has advised South African President, Jacob Zuma, to stay away from the inauguration of the president- elect, Muhammadu Buhari. The organisation also threatened to storm the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, should Zuma step into the country’s airport. According to the association, Zuma should keep off as his visit will be an insult to the sensibility of Nigerians over his alleged poor handling of the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other migrant foreigners in South Africa. A statement by NANS President, Tijani Usman, noted that Zuma’s inability to “apologise to Nigerians like he did to Mozambique”, despite the sacrifices the country made for South Africa, was unfortunate. He said, “We wish to advise the South African President (Jacob Zuma) to rather stay at home and address burning issues, rather than embarking on a visit that is the least desirable. “The South African President’s failure to apologise to Nigeria for the losses the country and our citizens incurred during the xenophobic attacks on foreigners leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. There is therefore, no point felicitating with a people who clearly do not matter much to you. President Zuma’s visit will only amount to pretence.” NANS further restated its earlier position that it will henceforth not hesitate to clamp down on South African investments in the country should any incident of xenophobic attacks recur. |

SA warned against fighting Boko Haram in Nigeria Cape Town – A military expert has reportedly warned South Africa would be under threat if the country's soldiers joined African Union (AU) forces in the fight against Boko Haram militants in Nigeria. According to Times Live, Military analyst Helmoed Heitman said the threat of terror attacks closer to home would increase if SA troops led the AU force in the battle against the terror group in Nigeria. This comes as the AU is reportedly said to be mulling plans to deploy its military intervention force to fight the Islamic group. Boko Haram has killed thousands in a five-year rebellionwhich is seen as the biggest security threat to Africa's top oil producer and is a headache for President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of what is likely to be a closely fought vote on 14 February. There is also the risk of the militants destabilising neighbouring countries At least 11 320 Nigerian refugees have fled the violence by crossing into neighbouring Chad since the start of the year, according to reports. President Jonathan was recently quoted as saying over 13 000 people were killed in 2014. The United Nations on Tuesday called on Nigeria to restore law and order in the northeast and investigate "mass killings" of civiliansblamed on Boko Haram insurgents. Twitter has been abuzz with comments about AU's involvement in Nigeria.Take a look at some of the tweets. @loyisothevictor @BAfricansI hope SA doesn't lead mission of AU to fight Boko Haram. They will bring the war onto SA streets. Scary— Nobesuthu Cele (@ma_Ndosi) January 14, 2015 Question should be whether Nigeria wants help to fight #BokoHaram, if so an AU mission, not SA should be deployed. SA must avoid patronizing— Mbuyiseni Ndlozi (@MbuyiseniNdlozi) January 14, 2015 #BokoHaram: AU should provide more support to Nigeria through arms supplies & increased presence of peacekeeping forces. - @SantoshVKalyan lol south Africans with there cowards life.
