The power steering is an aid system that helps reduce the force needed to turn a steering wheel. You don't want to drive a car with power steering issues.
How to identify power steering faults.

Whining sound: If you hear a whining noise while turning your steering, the power steering pump is failing and needs to be replaced.
Stiff steering: the steering gets stiff when the power steering pump fails.
Squealing noise when you start the car.
Steering wheel slow to respond.
Never allow the pump go bad due to lack of oil, this can spoil the steering rack too.
Before changing the pump check if there is any leakage ( check the condition of the serpentine belt, if it has spoilt due to contact with power steering fluid). Also check the level of the fluid. If low fill to guage and check again.
Steps to changing power steering pump.

Remove the hose taking fluid out of the pump.
Remove the sensor plug.
Unscrew the securing bolts.
Remove the serpentine belt.
Put power steering oil into the new pump.
Roll the roller on the new pump until it start vomiting the oil.
Close the outlet hole.
Install the new pump.
Fix the sensor conector.
Fix back the hose into the outlet hole.
Fill with power steering oil.
Use your hand and close the pump while someone else turns the steering. This is a bleeding process.
Gauge the pump.
On the car and turn the steer from end to end.

Engine is the life of a car and must be taken care of , one must take note every little change in his engine be it sound or the kind of smoke it brings out.
When a smoky engine is detected ,you don't have to get all worked up because you might not have to spend much to bring the car back to a sound state.

STEPS TO TROUBLESHOOTING A SMOKY ENGINE
1. Check the colour of the smoke being emitted by the engine.
a. Blue smoke; blue smoke implies the engine oil is entering into the combustion chamber.
b. Black smoke; This implies that the fuel entering into the combustion chamber is too much and there is incomplete combustion of fuel in the engine.
c. White smoke; This implies that coolant is entering the combustion chamber. The white smoke is actually steam.
Take note; Its normal to see a white smoke when you turn on your engine in the morning.

2. Check the oil to see if it is contaminated by water or fuel. smell it to check if it has a hard fuel smell , if it does off your engine and call a professional.

3. If it is a white smoke, allow the engine to cool down and check the level of the coolant. If there is reduction in it level then its obvious that the water is entering into the combustion chamber . Check the head gasket or check to see a crack on the cylinder block.

4. If it is a blue smoke , check the pistons , gasket, O- rings and the head cylinder and replace bad parts.

5. If it is a black smoke ; check the fuel pump, check for leaky injectors, bad carburettor adjustment. This can also be caused by failing engine computer and it must be changed.

Most car users neglect their oils, even though the oil is like the blood of the engine, this is because the not only lubricates your engine but it also acts as coolant to the engine, it help absorb the chemical formed during combustion . In this article we will be discussing a lot about oils, how to pick the right oil for your car, how to know a high grade oil and the difference between the types of oils we have.
Oil Category:
The API (America Petroleum Institute) certifies and rate oils according to their quality. Some oils are meant for modern cars while some others for very old ones. While buying oil check for the API donut logo and see what is written on it.
On the logo is written a two letter code.

SA- SN, its only the letter k and i that are skipped). This codes will help you know the kind of oil you should use for your car.
SA - SH are obsolete now, they are used on vehicles from 1930 - before 2000.
SJ is used on 2001 and older cars.
SL is used on 2004 and older cars.
SM is used on 2010 and older cars.
SN is used on newer cars and can also be used on older cars too. Oils rated SN has higher performance, because it provides high deposite protection for pistons and better slug control.

Oil Grade:
The oil grade simply tells us about the viscosity of the oil. Every car has it own OEM (original equipment manufacturer) specification. The society of Automobile Engineers (SAE)has made it easy for car owners to know the grade of oil to use on their cars without them being mechanical gurus. They invetented a series of cold (e.g 5W20) which tells the end user a lot about the oil. The first letter tells us the viscosity at cold start, the letter 'W' depicts winter, and the last number tells us the viscosity at 100 degree Celsius.

Types of oil
There are three types of oil;

Mineral oil: It is gotten from crude oil and the least expensive.
Synthetic blend: This oil is a blend of mineral and natural oil.It is often designed for older vehicles and it lasts longer and more expensive than the mineral oil.They are designed for higher performance engine.
Full synthetic oil: They are the most expensive oil.They are often used in the industries because of their very high performance.

Oil is used for lubricating the moving parts in a car engine. Every car has the quantity of oil it needs for adequate lubrication.
The oil light does not only show when their is low oil pressure, it also show on the dashboard when the car is put on ignition ( and it goes off after a few seconds, this is normal).
Reasons why oil light stays standby on the dashboard.
Low oil level in the engine; check the level of oil in the engine and if short of oil gauge it till it gets to the level stipulated by the manufacturer.
Oil leakage; if the sump drain plug is not well fitted, the oil will leak out of the sump thereby reducing the oil pressure and in turn triggering the light to show.
Blocked oil filter; when the oil filter is blocked it reduces the pressure at which oil should flow.

Have youever experienced a milkshake coolant in your radiator. Never think its a modern coolant, your oil cooler is just bad and needs to be replaced.

I just finished working on a 2011 Mercedes Benz C300, which had this problem.
Steps to fixing the problem on a C300
1. Observe where the milkshake colour is. If its in the sump, its probably a blown gasket but if you see it only in the water reservoir then the oil cooler is bad.
2. Remove the radiator hose and allow the coolant to flow out.
3. Loose the power steering reservoir so as to get access to the fasteners on the oil cooler.
4. Loose the fasteners on the cooler and bring it out.
5. Replace the old damaged oil cooler with the new one. Make sure you change the seal between the oil filter cup and the oil cooler and also use a good sealant gum on the seal between the cooler and the oil filter cup.
The oil cooler spoils when the seals inside it gets bad.
6. Fasten the power steering reservoir back.
7. Flush the entire engine/radiator water way. This can be done by pouring water into the reservoir with the hose sending water out of the radiator not fixed in its position. You can also add detergent ( this is the local way) as an emulsifier.

8. Wash the water reservoir.
9. With the accurate measurement add coolant to the vehicle.
