[s][/s] Rilwayn001: The re-election bid of the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Thursday received a significant boost with the dumping of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by political leaders in the state and his endorsement by major political groups from the three senatorial zones of the state.
The influential political groups from Orlu, Okgwe and Owerri zones, known as the Coalition of Imo Mainstream Politicians for Good Governance, are made up of the Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA), Owerri Zone Mandate Group and the Okigwe Political Leaders Congress.
The Coalition during a press conference in Owerri, the Imo State capital, said that it decided to dump the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a result of the Governor’s sterling performance and the irredeemable corruption in the PDP.
In a statement jointly signed by the Coordinator of the Coalition of Imo Mainstream Politicians for Good Governance, Chief Rex Anunobi, also known as Sokom, the National President of OPOCA, Dr. Samfo Nwankwo and the President General, Owerri Zone Mandate, Dr. Vitalis Ajumbe and the President Okigwe Political Leaders Forum, Dr. Kelechi Okpaleke, the group maintained that “the APC is the only hope for a truly democratic and corruption free Nigeria”.
The political leaders further disclosed that they were inspired to join the APC because of the unprecedented achievements recorded by the Okorocha’s administration within a short time in office, adding that “the Governor had dazed his critics by the successful implementation of the free education programme, the construction of 27 new general hospitals across the 27 Local Government Areas of the State, the construction of 15 kilometer rural roads in all the LGAs”.
They also added that the APC led administration in the state; unlike previous administrations has spread development to all the nook and crannies of the state, especially the rural areas that were hitherto abandoned.
They also dismissed other political parties in the governorship race, stating that the status of their governorship candidates is not yet clear as they are still locked in legal battle, “the PDP and APGA are yet to have valid governorship candidates as they are still in court”.
The Coalition, further accused the PDP of planning to continue its “share the money syndrome” alleging that the governorship candidate of the party has promised aspirants who lost the governorship primaries a N35 billion refund when he gets to power.
They promised to mobilize Imo people from the three zones to vote Governor Okorocha “because he has done Imo State proud with his performance. Imo people need the best. Imo people deserve the best and the best is Governor Okorocha.”

Politics › Rivers Deputy Governor, Ikuru, Under Fire Over Call For “blood Fight” by ishiamu(op): 9:31am On Mar 26, 2015 |
Rights campaigners in Nigeria have slammed the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, for prodding the people of the state to fight, even with their blood, to rid the state of elements of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Mr. Ikuru, on Monday, had asked members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state to fight and redeem the state from the APC even if it means shedding their blood. He made the call in Port Harcourt to a crowd of PDP supporters who turned out to welcome him after his defection from the APC. “It is necessary for the sake of your fathers, for the sake of your mothers, for the sake of your brothers and sisters and for the sake of your children. Every Rivers man must stand up to fight this evil among us,” Mr. Ikuru said. “If it demands your blood, so be it.” The Director, Centre for Democracy and Development, Idayat Hassan, told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Ikuru’s statement does not just portray hate but is especially dangerous because of the forthcoming elections. “This a very worrying situation particularly looking at how volatile the election is. It amounts to dangerous speech, it goes beyond hate speech, it’s a dangerous speech to incite people to violence,” Ms. Hassan said. Ms. Hassan said the comments by a serving deputy governor is unlawful, punishable, and against the Abuja peace accord signed by political parties. “As much as the political gladiators keep inciting people to violence, they should not forget that if they feel the culture of impunity is actually encouraged here in Nigeria, that the ICC has already issued a statement to the effect that if anybody commits violence during this election will go in for it,” she said. Emmanuel Onwubiko, the National Coordinator, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, condemned the statement. “That’s very callous, if he made that comment,” Mr. Onwubiko said. He said he hopes the Deputy Governor’s statement attracts international attention especially with the recent statement from the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal court that anyone who incites violence or participates in violent act during the election will be held responsible for their actions. With Rivers State having recorded pockets of pre- election violence, various organizations have put the state on “red alert”, he said. “That particular state has been burning, I think political leaders from that Rivers State should be careful of what they say. The state is a flashpoint for political violence, so you don’t expect anybody, a respectable politician from that state to be the one to speak of violence,” Mr. Onwubiko said. He added that it is pertinent for the Deputy Governor to quickly recant his statement and apologise to Nigerians for making such inciting speech. Also, Lauratu Abdulsalam of the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme said such statement from a personality as the Deputy Governor of the state can lead his followers to cause an unimaginable level of violence. The activists also called on the National Human Rights Commission to look into Mr. Ikuru’s statement and hold him accountable to any violence that might erupt in the state. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/179141-rivers-deputy-governor-ikuru-under-fire-over-call-for-blood-fight.html |

Politics › Some Of Your Aides, Ministers Working For APC, Group Tells Jonathan by ishiamu(op): 9:12am On Mar 26, 2015 |
ABUJA – Four days to the presidential election, a group loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan has asked him to be aware of some of his Ministers and aides, alleging that they were actually working for the All Progressives Congress, APC. The group called Coalition of Nigeria Leaders for Stability, CNLS, also stated it has passed a vote of no confidence on the APC presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari on his recent comment not to probe past corrupt leaders and individuals from 1999 to date should he win the presidential election, saying the comment does not portray Buhari as a serious person who wants to fight corruption. In a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the National Coordinator of the group, High Chief Mike Loyibo said that the group has thrown its support behind the reelection bid of the president. He said: “We call on Mr. President and the PDP to be wary of those who claim to be working for his return as facts on ground has revealed that some Ministers and other personal aides in Jonathan’s government are seriously working for the APC. With this unacceptable act, it has shown that some of them are PDP in the day time and APC at night. “As a group, we have have passed a vote of no confidence on the APC presidential flag bearer, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari over his recent comment not to probe people indicted for corrupt practices from 1999 till date. “Nigerians should not be deceived by the antics of the APC because it is obvious that Buhari lacks the wherewithal to preside over the affairs of Nigeria. Nigerians should guide their votes jealously and vote for Jonathan, so that the ugly incident that happened in Lagos will it repeat itself. “Therefore as a legitimate group, we have come to note that after a careful review of the activities and performance of the incumbent administration of Dr. Jonathan, particularly, the laudable and painstaking transformation in key sectors of the Nigerian economy such as the unbundling of the power sector, revamping of the agricultural sector and the courage to give a new lease of life to both the aviation and the rail sectors as well as uncommon courage to convoke the national conference among other mouth watering achievements, we have decided to throw our weight behind the reelection bid of our impeccable and respected icon of our generation, His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan. Also speaking, another leader of the group, retired Major-General Andrew Audu stated that Nigeria needed continuity to ensure consolidation of Jonathan’s achievements. “We need stability, we need continuity. Any disconnect will from these will not augur well for the country”, he said. He also asked those threatening violence to desist from making such utterances, stressing that Nigeria was bigger that every individual. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/some-of-your-aides-ministers-working-for-apc-group-tells-jonathan/ |
Politics › Re: OAU Students Stone Jonathan, Ekiti Obas, And Fayose Out Of Ife by ishiamu(m): 10:43pm On Mar 25, 2015 |
[s][/s] samobaba: In what seems a wild reaction to the polity ailed with hopelessness and frustration, the students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Friday took their anger to the Oduduw a Hall of the university where they unleashed a dose of despondency on President Goodluck Jonathan.
A group calling themselves Concerned Yoruba Leaders, within PDP in the South West, had planned a one-day conference to drum support for President Jonathan’s second term. Venue was the Oduduwa Hall.
As the President arrived for the programme, the students, who had planned very well to unleash their anger against Jonathan, had laid siege to the premises of the hall. As he alighted from his vehicle, hail of stones greeted the President.
The authorities of the school calmed down the restive students temporarily to “cool their temper” until Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State arrived the campus followed by two 52-seater Ashok Leyland school buses loaded with Ekiti Obas.
Fayose was so confident that the students would receive him with open hands. But as he arrived the campus with a horde of his boys in another bus shouting “oshoko oshoko”, the enraged students of Ife in large numbers rushed towards his entourage and dealt a vicious assault on them.
He was lucky to run for his life, as his security aides shielded and ferried him to the hall. But the Obas, some of whom had already disembarked from the buses, were not so lucky, as the students descended on them. lnstantly, one of the buses made a detour and immediately took some of the Obas out of Ile-Ife, but Oba Adamo Babalola of Itaji Ekiti and Alara of Aramoko Ekiti were not lucky, as the vehicle with which they came drove off in a high speed, leaving the duo behind.
One of the Obas quickly removed his beads and gave his horse tail to his security guard to disguise his identity, and Dipo Anisulowo came to the rescue of one of the Obas, as he helped to carry his crown inside a nylon bag back to Ekiti State. Eventually, one of the stranded Obas was later seen in the town by the road side trying to catch Ado Ekiti-bound bus.
However, the students that had earlier mellowed down, regrouped and waited for the President for Part 2 of anti-Jonathan drama. Within minutes, the students had taken over the long stretch of road leading to the town from their campus., and the programme was abruptly brought to a close as Jonathan and his handlers hurried into waiting helicopters that ferried Jonathan, Fayose and other leaders and supporters out of the campus amid shouts of “ole ole ole”
OAU Ile-Ife students today displayed what they are noted for: to humiliate corrupt and inept leaders who are making life uncomfortable for them and who care less about what future holds for young Nigerians.
