FamilyMarriage Of Zimbabwean Woman Who Had Unprotected Sex With A Bizman Crashes by Islie(op): 8:28pm On Aug 03, 2017
CASUAL SEX ENDS MARRIAGE

By Arron Nyamayaro,

The marriage of a Zimbabwean woman has collapsed amid recent revelations of her alleged unprotected sex romp with a popular local businessman.

According to H-Metro, it is claimed that Junior Takuranarwo, decided to drink beer as a way of relieving stress but things escalated and ended in an unprotected sex romp.

When details of this escapade emerged, her marriage ended.

Junior confirmed that her marriage has irretrievably broken following her one-night stand with the businessman named Noah.

She claimed she intended to relieve stress since her husband was out on business.

“I regret drinking beer when my husband was away. I got drunk and I was lured into unprotected sex by a local businessman who promised me money to start business.

My life is no longer the same, I feel bad for cheating on my husband.

"To be honest with you I only cheated on my husband once after he left me for two months to work in South Africa. I decided to repent.

"I thought beer drinking reduces stress but it turned out to be the opposite, it ruined my life. It affected my health. It exposed my weakness and today I pray for another chance in marriage. Marriage gives women dignity, it separates women from whores and it adds value to women.

"I regret my actions and I pray that the Lord may forgive my wrongdoings. I now see the difference, between darkness and light, single women and married. I feel sorry for myself and my family and I look forward to another chance,” said Junior.

CrimeZimbabwean Prostitutes Offer Free Sex To Mourners At Thief’s Funeral (Photos) by Islie(op): 4:39pm On Aug 03, 2017
In what will come across as a really shocking development, it has been revealed that there was free sex galore in Mbare, Zimbabwe on Monday and Tuesday night as prostitutes mourned a serial thief by offering free sex to all mourners.
They described the late thief who succumbed to tuberculosis as a sex maniac.

According to H-Metro, the infamous thief identified as Masiyas Mesiyas is also said to be the one who stole Jamaican artiste Elephant Man’s cellphone when he came into the country a few years ago.

Mbare residents say Mesiyas was in the same league with the late thief Borris who died near Zindoga Shopping centre in a speed chase with police. The funeral was themed ‘Birwai, Sv***ai' as thieving, drug abuse and sex topped the funeral wake. Sex workers said Mesiyas was their regular client.

“Mesiyas was a well-known thief but one of the things we have known him for as sex workers in Mbare is that he loved sex and was our regular client. We had no money to contribute in planning the funeral arrangements, but we offered what we know best and male mourners who came for the funeral could get sex for free,” said one of the hookers who identified herself as Busi.

Family spokesperson Brandon Chikukwa confirmed that mourners at the funeral were being treated to free sex by hookers.
“I have never seen anything like what I witnessed from Monday night when my uncle died.

People were celebrating his life in different ways, as they were having sex in cars and at night, people would just go anywhere private and start having sex. The service was being offered by the prostitutes for free to everyone who attended, we just hope they were wearing condoms.

As a family we do not condone what was happening but there was nothing we could do because he was a people’s person. They were doing what they thought was best to pay their last respects to him,” said Chikukwa.

PoliticsAgency Probes Senator’s $34.5m Deal With NPA by Islie(op): 8:33am On Aug 03, 2017
Posted By: Yusuf Alli, Abuja

A Senator is in trouble over a curious $34.5million contract awarded to a firm allegedly owned by him. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) awarded the contract during the administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The contract was part of the dredging of the Calabar Access Channel by the Calabar Channel Management Limited (CCM), with Niger Global Engineering and Technical Company Limited.

But all efforts by the new NPA management to find the details of dredging for the period during which CCM claimed to have dredged the Calabar Access Channel (November 2014 to January 2015) have proved abortive.

NPA is seeking the approval of its Board of Directors to terminate the contract.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is, however, probing the payment of $12,500,000 to the senator’s company.

The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Mr. Emeka Nzeh, in a May 18, 2015 memo to Jonathan, said the former President was not “properly informed” by a former Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, about the contract.

But a plot was hatched to divert the attention of Nigerians from the ongoing investigation with a declaration by the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff on July 17 that about 282 ships were missing from the nation’s ports between 2010 and 2016.

According to a document obtained by our correspondent, the said contract was in respect of a Joint Venture to “manage the dredging of Calabar Channel”.

Although the idea of the contract was mooted in 2004, the NPA began the implementation in June 2010 through a public tender, which led to the pre-qualification of six companies.

But in November 2012, the BPP made a representation to Jonathan and secured approval for selective tendering.

It was learnt that the Chief of Staff to the then President, in a memo to Jonathan, requested that “the capital dredging of the Calabar Channel be re-procured”.

Despite the fact that a procurement process was ongoing, the Minister of Transport on September 13, 2012 sought Jonathan’s approval to “appoint a consortium led by the Niger Global in conjunction with NPA using the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), known as Calabar Channel Management Limited (CCM) to manage the Calabar Channel without following due process.”

Jonathan approved the Minister’s request on 6th November 2012 and the approval was conveyed to the NPA by the ex-Minister on November 26, 2012.

The management of NPA, led by Hajiya Hadiza Bala Usman (the Managing Director) has discovered that the contract was fraught with irregularities.

It was learnt that apart from the Board of NPA, the EFCC is already looking into the deal, including the roles played by the senator.

A document obtained by The Nation gave an insights into how the contract was awarded in curious circumstances.

The document said: “In line with the approval of Mr. President, the following actions were taken: The Honourable Minister of Transport by a letter with reference No. T.0160/S.107/IX/2632 dated 20th November 2013, directed the Authority to convene the inaugural meeting of the Board of the CCM within two (2) weeks to discuss the modalities for the operation of the company.

“The Authority received a further directive from the Federal Ministry of Transport to prepare for the flagging-off ceremony of the CCM. The Honourable Minister of Transport on behalf of Mr. President held the flag-off ceremony on 17th October 2014.

“After the flag-off ceremony, a second preparatory meeting was held on the 29th October 2014. The meeting discussed issues relating to staff recruitment, amendments to sharing ratio, 2014 Work Plan as approved in the NPA 2014 budget, 2015 budget of CCM, pending the ratification of particulars of directors.

“CCM subsequently submitted an invoice for fourth quarter 2014 in the sum of US$19,972,673.62 (Nineteen, Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy-two Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy-three Dollars, Sixty-two Cents) and US$14,593,324.59 (Fourteen Million, Five Hundred and Ninety-three Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-four Dollars, Fifty-nine Cents) for first quarter 2015 amounting to US$34,565,998.21 (Thirty-four Million, Five Hundred and Sixty-five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-eight Dollars, Twenty-one Cents.

“The Authority (NPA) made a payment of US$12,500,000.00 (Twelve Million, Five Hundred Thousand Dollars) only.

“Further processing of payment was suspended by the Authority due to the investigation being carried out by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a petition received by it against CCM.

“The EFCC subsequently directed the Authority to engage the services of a reputable audit firm to undertake a forensic bathymetric survey to verify the dredging claimed to have been done. A firm was engaged and is retained accordingly.”

An inquiry conducted by the Hadiza Bala Usman’s administration in NPA revealed the following:
“The Authority has consistently maintained that maritime activities in the Calabar Channel is low and cannot sustain a JV arrangement that would establish a channel management company as obtained in the Lagos and Bonny channels.

“This was also the position of the Consultant that the Authority appointed in 2004. The position has not changed. We are however of the opinion that a model that is financially prudent should be explored;

“The procurement process that brought about CCM was reviewed and described as flawed by the Bureau of Public Procurement. The recommendation for the appointment of Niger Global Engineering Limited as the JV partner for the Calabar Channel was done by the Federal Ministry of Transport unilaterally without the technical input of the Authority, including all recommendations to Mr. President.

“CCM was incorporated after the procurement process for the Calabar channel managers had begun. As stated by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) in their memo referenced BPP/PRES/2015/013 of 18‘“ May 2015 to Mr. President, “it appears as if Messrs CCM was surreptitiously incorporated for the purpose of obtaining this contract without competition”.

“All efforts to find details of dredging activities for the period during which CCM claimed to have dredged the Calabar Access Channel (November 2014 to January 2015) proved abortive. The Harbour Master and Port Hydrographer during the period stated they were i unaware of any dredging undertaken by CCM during the period. Further, there was no communication between the company and the Port Management on their purported dredging activities during the period.

“The information available regarding the movement of dredging equipment relating to CCM is as follows:
That the Dredger ‘MV Atlantico Due arrived Calabar on 16″” October 2014 and berthed at Intels Terminal for the flag-off ceremony and left immediately after the ceremony on 18‘“. October 2014.

That on 12th November 2014, a survey boat ‘MV Hurricane arrived Calabar and anchored mid-stream for a while then left without recourse to the Port Management.

That ‘MV Waterway’ arrived Calabar on 19th November 2014 and subsequently disappeared without any recourse to Calabar Port Control/Management and without applying or obtaining the requisite sailing clearance and till date, there is no communication on the where about of the dredger.

That on 29th August 2015, the dredger ‘MV Atlantico Due arrived Calabar Fairway Buoy but was not allowed to enter the port for security reasons pending completion of necessary documentation. However, no documentation has been done in that regard till date.

That on 1st September 2015, ‘MV Hurricane’ arrived Calabar without any documentation. The port signal station directed the vessel captain to ensure necessary documentation with the port was done but the vessel left without responding.

“Thus, after careful examination of the Authority’s overall dredging data/vessel movement in conjunction with inputs from the Authority’s relevant personnel, it is questionable if any dredging actually took place.

“The Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement in his memo on 18th May 2015 to the Mr. President stated: “Your Excellency, I am of the humble view that you were not properly informed by the Hon. Minister of Transport’s letter ref T.016/S.107/IXI dated 10th June 2014.

An EFCC source said: “We have received complaints over the JV contract and a senator has a case to answer.

“We are already scrutinising all documents relating to the JV and payments made to the senator’s firm.

“Our main target is to recover public funds collected for job not done. The Senator and all those involved in the contract will be questioned by our team.”

Parading the suspect alongside 27 others, the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, said the suspect said his inability to make ends meet with six other children and a wife to cater for forced him to sell Elisha.

Inuwa said, “On July 24, 2017, a case of child trafficking was reported by one Mrs Esther Abraham against her husband – Abraham Moses Udoh, who stole away her two year-old-boy- Elisha without her consent.

“Upon investigation, Abraham Moses Udoh revealed that his child, Elisha, was sold by him to an unknown woman residing in Uyo in Akwa Ibom state at the sum of N150, 000. But the sum of N103, 000 was recovered from him and registered as exhibit”.

PoliticsI’ve Stopped My Pension In Kwara, Says Saraki by Islie(op): 6:51am On Aug 02, 2017
Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, yesterday said that he had stopped collecting pension as a former governor of Kwara State.

He spoke at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) forum in Abuja, where he said he wrote a letter to the state government to stop the payment of his pension.

According to him, the move was sequel to complaints from some quarters that former governors who were currently senators or ministers were receiving pension and salaries in their new jobs, all from the government.

A civil society organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), had accused former governors of receiving double pay from government and that it was illegal.

“No, I’m not collecting pension; the moment I saw that allegation, I wrote to my state to stop my pension.

“So, I speak for myself on that part; I’m not doing that, I am not receiving pension from my state,” he said.

On other senators involved in the act, Saraki said: “I think I will leave everybody to their individual decision.

Meanwhile, the senate president said contrary to insinuations, the senate had no pre-meditated plan to reject Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to him, Magu’s rejection was prompted by reports from the Department of State Services (DSS), among others, and the screening was aired ‘live’ on national television for all Nigerians to watch. “I think there is a lot of misunderstanding and blackmail and all is not in the interest of democracy.

“The rejection of candidates presented to the National Assembly is a process.

It is a process that is not restricted to the EFCC chairman.

PoliticsHow Nnamdi Kanu Fell From Grace - By Tony Adibe by Islie(op): 9:44am On Jul 29, 2017
By Tony Adibe, Enugu

When Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), started hitting the airwaves and heating up the Nigerian polity with the London-based Radio Biafra, a platform through which he released his hate speeches and insults, he probably thought the development earned him the mouthpiece of the Igbo race.

Moreover, when his sit-indoor-order reportedly received about 80 percent compliance within some major cities in the South-east zone of Nigeria, he might have felt that circumstances have automatically placed the leadership of the entire Igbo race on his palms. Apparently, the same way unfolding situations in the 1960s placed the leadership of Igbo land, and indeed, the defunct eastern region on the shoulders of the then young Biafran leader, Col Emeka Ojukwu. But the two scenarios are not the same. They can hardly be.

Kanu perhaps felt emboldened to speak, even about matters he ought to have maintained silence on. Towards the end of June, the IPOB leader reportedly called on Anambra people to boycott the governorship election scheduled for November 18. His reported call came even when the Igbo are yet to come out of the problem they were thrown into when Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the then leader of Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) asked the Igbo to boycott the last census. The Igbo who obeyed Uwazuruike’s misleading and mischievous call did not realize the implication: when the census was conducted, the population of the Igbo declined. Federal resources are usually distributed based on population of an area.

However, for the first time, the leadership of Ndigbo seemed to have risen up to the occasion by not only scolding Kanu but also calling him to order. That Kanu heads IPOB and directs a pirate Radio Biafra, does not make him the Igbo spokesman.

The highest Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, hit hard on IPOB and Kanu with a warning to desist from actions capable of heating up the polity. Ohanaeze was reacting to IPOB’s call for a boycott of the forthcoming governorship poll in Anambra State.

“We don’t need this heat up…Leaders of these movements must not arrogate to themselves the supreme leadership of Igboland…Statements of the kind credited to Kanu are provocative, misleading and unproductive. Why should Anambra people be denied the opportunity to choose their own leader? Why should any of us who are not from Anambra, no matter how highly placed, descend to the arena and dictate for Anambra people when to vote, whether to vote or who to vote for?” asked the President General of Ohanaeze, Chief John Nnia Nwodo. “We must resist any attempt to turn division amongst us,” he warned.

Elder statesman and founder cum national chairman of the Justice Party, Chief Ralph Obioha, said Kanu should be guarded lest he drags the Igbo into the kind of mess they will live to regret for a very long time. “Ndigbo are struggling to come out of the mess Uwazuruike put us into when he and his MASSOB prevented a majority of Igbo from participating in the last census. And now this young man with split personality - Nnamdi Kanu who claims to be a Jew, even when the Jews have not said they are Igbo or the Igbo are Jews - has emerged to drag the Igbo man into another round of mess,” Obioha said angrily in an interview with Daily Trust on Saturday.

Obioha regretted that prominent Igbo leaders like former Vice President Alex Ekwueme and others, rather than caution the young Kanu “who abuses everybody in Igbo land and Nigeria, they are patting him on the back.”

He said: “Look at the title Nnamdi Kanu has given himself now…His Excellency, The Supreme Leader of IPOB and Biafra. He enjoys such amusing titles. Doesn’t that tell you something about the mentality of the young man? I only pity the gullible Igbo youths who follow such people sheepishly because the word Biafra is now their opium.”

Even Kanu seemed to have lost the support of the father figure and co-founder of IPOB, a former President General of Ohanaeze, Dr Dozie Ikedife, who participated in the Nigeria-Biafra civil war. Ikedife and Kanu do not agree on ideological differences or modus operandi with which to go about Biafra. The Anambra State-born medical doctor knows the implication of violence and war. He does not want to adopt any of these.

“I am not in support of any other brand of Biafra agitation that would involve physical engagements, assault or insults and preaching ethnic hatred,” said Ikedife in an interview. He quickly added: “The Biafra agitation I support is a peaceful one. A Biafra founded through a referendum or legislative process backed by law and not violence,” he restated.

But Kanu ‘who was born yesterday’ and didn’t experience the agonies of the Civil War is busy crusading for violence, blood, war. He is still basking in the euphoria of the media spotlight he has gotten so far. Perhaps, Kanu is not only a sad man but one in a hurry to get things done, even if it means doing them badly. He said in a recent interview that his attempt to restore Biafra Republic was spurred by “the sufferings Ndi-Igbo were being subjected to in Nigeria, the maltreatment and marginalization of the Igbo people.” Kanu further said: “I am extremely bitter with the maltreatment of Ndigbo. That is why it looks as if I am zealous.”

More shocking to Kanu’s firebrand and brashly arrogant style of crusading for Biafra is the rejection of secession from the southeast governors, Ohanaeze and other prominent groups and personalities in the zone.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of  southeast governors, Ohanaeze, and select leaders of thought in Enugu on July 1, 2017  killed any optimism IPOB leadership probably had for receiving the approval or endorsement of the Igbo leadership in respect of Biafra’s resurrection.

Ebonyi State governor and chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, Dave Umahi, who read the communiqué, also condemned Kanu’s reckless hate speeches and disrespect for civil authorities. Umahi said: “Ndigbo are in support of a united Nigeria where peace, love, fairness, justice, equity and equality of opportunity are paramount regardless of creed, ethnicity, gender or political affiliation.”

They also declared their support for the restructuring of Nigeria on the basis of fairness and equity, while also appealing to the federal government and all Nigerian leaders to quickly set in motion the process of dialogue among Nigerians on the modalities of achieving the issue within a reasonable time frame.

But a day after the governors and Igbo leaders met, IPOB said that the Igbo leaders comprising the governors, National Assembly members, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders, spoke for themselves and their immediate families. IPOB expressed disappointment over the position and comments of the elders during the Enugu meeting, emphasising that the leaders contradicted the aspirations of the teeming Igbo people.

IPOB said in a statement issued by its media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, that the position of the Igbo leaders failed to reflect the will of the ordinary people in the zone, but was aimed at protecting their interests and that of their immediate families and cronies who have been the beneficiaries of the Igbo common patrimony.

Nevertheless, only time will tell if Kanu will ever get the support of the Igbo elite since virtually all the prominent people support a one united Nigeria rather than opting for a break-away Biafra Republic. This is unlike in the 1960s when the Eastern Region Consultative Assembly unanimously asked the then leader of defunct Eastern Region, Col Emeka Ojukwu, to declare the Republic of Biafra. Perhaps, Kanu is still acting alone, basking in the euphoria of gullible Igbo young men and women who, one prays, wouldn’t push him to do things that may burn the fingers of Igbo people.

PoliticsSupport For Buhari: Aggrieved Reps Revolt Against Dogara by Islie(op): 7:58am On Jul 29, 2017
Posted By: Yusuf ALLI, Managing Editor,

A rebellion is building up in the House of Representatives against Speaker Yakubu Dogara, according to multiple sources in the Green Chambers of the National Assembly.

Dogara’s offence is what many members perceive as his soft spot for the Presidency.

The Reps claim the Speaker want to turn the House into a rubber stamp for the executive arm.

They are also angry that constituency projects are not being implemented by the Executive, and want to know why about 50-60 per cent of them (members) have not been assigned their official cars.

Another grievance of the Reps is alleged lateness in payment of their salaries and allowances.

Dogara ,though shocked by the development, has launched a counter move to calm frayed nerves.

Majority of the Reps are said to have opted not to team up with the Senate to move against the Presidency,at least for now.

Investigation revealed that Dogara was jolted on Wednesday when some members of the House took him up on the various issues at an Executive Session.

It was learnt that a ranking member from Kano State led the protest by faulting the House leadership’s alleged romance with the presidency instead of asserting the independence of the chamber.

The members alleged that their support for the presidency, especially ailing President Muhammadu Buhari, was not being reciprocated by the latter.

They also complained about how ministers had been treating summons by committees with disdain.

They were particularly irked by the alleged unwillingness of the Executive to implement constituency projects in the 2016 budget.

Members claimed they went through hell to get the constituency projects executed.

A top source said: “Since he was elected, the Speaker has never had the type of revolt he witnessed during the week from members.

“The matter got to a point that some members at the plenary on Wednesday refused to stand up in deference to the Speaker in order to usher him into the chamber.

“Even on Thursday, some members extended their annoyance to voting during the debate on amendments to the 1999 constitution.”

Another ranking member gave said: “Some members from the North-West actually led the revolt at the Executive session. They accused Dogara of ‘leaning so much to the Executive’ such that the House was being turned into a rubber stamp.

“They gave a long list of constitutional violations by the Executive which the House ignored because of Dogara’s rapprochement with President Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

“They queried why the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola will come out publicly to deride the House without any sanction. They cited cases of ministers and chief executives of MDAs not honouring House summons.

“Also, the MDAs, especially ministers, elect to implement constituency projects based on their whims and caprices. But they have always forgotten that the budget is a law.

Some of us are tired and frustrated.

“The Speaker has been persuading us to be patient but we are not delivering dividends of democracy to our constituents. What we now get is stoning of some members by their constituents.

Another member from the South-South said: “Well, some of us actually complained bitterly about welfare matters. We are two years into our tenure and about 50-60 per cent of our members have not been given official cars.

“The complaint we have been getting borders on the fact that the Peugeot model cars have been ordered from abroad but yet to arrive. It is insulting that we have to be lobbying to get official cars which will be paid for from our entitlements.

“We believe that something was fundamentally wrong with the award of the contract for the cars by the House Services Committee.

“There was no communication on what has really happened. Unfortunately, the leadership has been tolerating the House Services Committee.”

A member from the North-West said: “It has not been funny because we get our salaries and allowances late.

“We protested to let the Speaker know that we are suffering in silence. If the Speaker had not handled it with maturity, we would have changed all the principal officers.

“ Of what use is backing President Buhari without meaningful projects in our constituency?

“Many of us preferred the Senate antagonistic method because it is working for that chamber. This was why we took on Dogara since the beginning of the week.”

But a principal officer said: “When Dogara opened up at the session, it was realized by members that he has not been pocketed by the presidency. His leadership style is that of consultation and not confrontation. He thinks service delivery to Nigerians should be the priority of lawmakers and not feud with the Executive.

“The same Speaker said he had engaged the Acting President on Fashola matter and Prof. Osinbajo directed the Minister to go and apologize. He obeyed the directive on Friday.

“In the last few months, the Speaker has been to the Villa to iron out issues amicably between the two arms of government.”

On the welfare of members, the principal officer said: “I think it has to do more with the failure of the House Services Committee than the problem with the Speaker. He was shocked to hear some of the complaints.”

Findings confirmed that following assurances from the Speaker, members jettisoned plans to “team up with the Senate” against the Executive.

“Dogara has sued for calm; we are giving him benefit of the doubt. He is a good listener but we need action.”

A member from the North-East said: “We have heard from Dogara and his team.We are awaiting action on their pledges to address our complaints. We love the Speaker, we have temporarily sheathed the swords.

“We have all collectively resolved not to join the Senate to fight the Executive because some of the issues are really too personal.

Some have to do with sheer politics and ambition. We won’t be part of it.

“But the House leadership has suffered a jolt, the situation might never be the same henceforth. We love Dogara but we cannot sacrifice the interest of our constituents.”

An eyewitness, Mr. Akpoebi Dino, said unidentified gunmen attacked an Army House Boat at Touma last week, killing two civilians and a soldier.

The source said men of the Joint Military Task Force stormed the area in over seven gunboats and shot people.

“The incident occurred, about 10 a.m., Many people were injured and 15 houses burnt down.

“The soldiers accused us of conniving with criminals to attack them. We don’t know what they mean by that.

“We have been living peacefully with the soldiers for years before this incident. We don’t know the cause of the sudden change in their attitude. When gunmen attacked the military base, the community took those injured to hospital and deposited three bodies in the mortuary.”

Bille kingdom described as shocking, the attack on Touma by military men, saying the reprisal was unwarranted.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Bille Kingdom Community Development Committee, Asatubo Igbanibo Kemuel and the Youth President, Obirabi Sanipe Sylvanus, the kingdom noted that Touma was invaded by military men.

The statement reads: “Soldiers, who came in about seven gunboats and eight speed boats, attacked Touma. They torched houses and destroyed property.

“Residents fled. Many people are still missing. Mr. Profit Joseph, a resident, sustained bullet injuries.

“Touma people will never attack soldiers and security personnel. We condemn this attack, maltreatment of innocent civilians and destruction of property.

“We urge the Federal Government, Rivers State government and security agencies to intervene. We implore the government and relevant authorities to give the victims relief materials.”

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of 6 Division, Port Harcourt, declined to comment on the incident. He referred
The Nation to the Joint Task Force (JTF) acting PRO, who he said is in a position to speak.

The Acting PRO, Lt. Commander Otuji, refused to comment.

Police spokesman Nnamdi Omoni promised to contact the District Police Officer at Bille. But he later said he was occupied with the visit of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.

CrimeHeads May Roll In Army Over Leaked Document by Islie(op): 7:32am On Jul 26, 2017
…..Investigators set up to fish out perpetrators

From: Molly Kilete, Abuja

The last may not have been heard of the recent redeployment of 649, officers among them seven Major-Generals, 45 Brigadier-Generals and 597 by Army authorities who are said to have concluded plans to investigate how the document tagged “top secret” got to the public.

Top Army sources told Daily Sun that those to be investigated were mostly personnel attached to the office of the military Secretary, Army, located at the Mambilla barracks, who is responsible for the promotion, appointment and redeployment of officers in the Nigerian army.

Already, a team of investigators comprising mostly of personnel of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps(NAIC), have been directed to fish out those responsible for the dastardly act of betrayal which the army is not funding funny.

The team of investigators who are said to have commenced work to fish out those army authorities described as ” disloyal”, to the system, Daily Sun, gathered would soon pick up those perceived to have connived with their collaborator to leak the said document.

The investigators Daily Sun, gathered would upon completing their assignment are expected to hand over the suspects to personnel of Nigerian Army Corp of Military Police(NACMP), for possible prosecution before a General Court Martial.

Sources further hinted that the investigators may spread their dragnet to officers who got copies of the said document, that is perceived to have a religious, political, tribal and vindictive motives in some quarters.

Unlike the the Nigerian Air Force(NAF), that makes public names of newly promoted officers and new appointment of officers to the various units and commands of the NAF, the sources say the army may not have made the list public owe to ulterior motives which is now causing a ripple amongst personnel.

Sources say already, there is tension in the department of Army secretary as personnel now live in fear, as most of their phone lines, email messages and Whatsapp messages suspected to have been used to send the document are being tampered with by investigators.

The Army authorities have been enmeshed in scandals of lopsided promotions and appointments which forced the army church Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, to issue a warning to personnel against leaking secret documents to the public.

Before issuing the warning, Buratai had organised a seminar for clerks and other personnel responsible for keeping records to educate them on how best to safeguard secret documents not to jeopardize national security and unauthorized disclosure of information, which is subject to official secret act.

PoliticsHigh-profile Fraud Cases: EFCC, ICPC Not Cooperating With AGF, Says Aide by Islie(op): 6:54am On Jul 26, 2017
Eniola Akinkuotu and Ade Adesomoju, Abuja

The Special Assistant to the President on Prosecutions, Chief Okoi Obono- Obla, on Tuesday, alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission were not cooperating with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami ( SAN).

Obono- Obla, in an interview with The PUNCH, absolved the AGF of any blame for the losses of the high - profile corruption cases as the agencies had allegedly defied the minister ’s directives on the cases.

He noted that many of the fraud cases against some former governors , being handled by the EFCC and the ICPC, had been stalled at investigation stages for over 10 years.

He cited the example of how both the EFCC and the ICPC defied the AGF's request for the duplicate case - files of the high - profile cases being handled by the agencies.

He said, “Although the Attorney General of the Federation has the power under both the constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 to make a request of any case file that is pending either with the police, the ICPC, the EFCC or any of the prosecuting agencies, we met a brick wall when we requested the files of the high - profile cases of former governors from the EFCC and the ICPC.

“They don’t cooperate with us . We cannot use a whip to start beating them, but I expect that the rules of public service require that if letters are written by the office of the AGF, those letters should be honoured.

“ They don’ t want to work with the office of the AGF. ”

On what the AGF would do, he said, “We will keep on making the request so that at the end of the day, anybody, who accuses the office of the AGF as being responsible for the delay in the prosecution of criminal cases, then we present our evidence. ”

He said the AGF ’s office had updated its list of high - profile cases which the minister requested their files from the anti - corruption agencies last year.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported in July 2016, that the AGF had written separate letters to the EFCC and the ICPC requesting the case files of 31 former governors.

On the list then were the names of Senate President Bukola Saraki (a former Governor of Kwara State); former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno ); and Senate Minority Leader , Godswill Akpabio (a former governor of Akwa Ibom State); and ex -governors Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia ); Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu ); Saminu Turaki (Jigawa); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); and Joshua Dariye (Plateau).

They also included former governors Ahmed Yerima (Zamfara ); Gabriel Suswam (Benue); James Ibori (Delta); Martin Elechi (Ebonyi); Danjuma Goje (Gombe); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Ikedi Ohakim (Imo) and Peter Odili (Rivers ).

Obono- Obla told our correspondent on Tuesday that the list had been updated with the inclusion of new names.

He said the updated list included the name of the Senator representing Anambra North, Stella Oduah.

“We will request the case files from the EFCC and the ICPC again, ” he said.

But the Head of Media, EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren , said he would not take issue with the President's aide on the allegation that the commission was not cooperating with the office of the AGF in the prosecution of high - profile cases.

He said, “I don’t want to take issue with him . I have not read the interview and I cannot react. ”

Also, the spokesperson for the ICPC, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, refused to comment when contacted on the telephone on Tuesday.

PoliticsSenate Approves Establishment Of Nigerian Peace Corps by Islie(op): 2:29pm On Jul 25, 2017
The Senate on Tuesday finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para-military agency.

The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had separately passed the bill last year.

However, after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.

The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves the harmonised version.

It is not clear if the presidency will approve of the bill as several departments in the executive including the police and the military are opposed to the legalisation of the Peace Corps which is currently a private NGO.
Details later…

PoliticsBuhari, Obasanjo, Jonathan Are Colonial Masters, Says Bakare by Islie(op): 12:11pm On Jul 25, 2017
Tunde Bakare, senior pastor of Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), says President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessors are colonial masters, who ruled Nigeria without accountability.

The fiery preacher said this while speaking to members of his church on Sunday.
He said many Africans travel abroad and complain they are being mistreated by colonial masters, while they have their colonial masters back home.

“Stop complaining about their countries, because many many Africans abroad today bought their own tickets into slavery. You couldn’t fix your own country, you are looking for where they have fixed,” he said.

“You are ready to lie, to declare refugee status just to hold a common passport where you are still treated like a common criminal. Slavery is God’s punishments for idolatry, for envy, that’s all.

“Joseph went through slavery, Israel went through slavery for 400 years, your own did not last 100 years you are still complaining colonial masters, colonial masters, where are they?

“Obasanjo ruled this country for eight years, no electricity, they spent money, who is asking him to account for the money he invested, where did he put it? We have no candle from that investment. He is a colonial master, Jonathan is a colonial master, Muhammadu Buhari is a colonial master.”

BAKARE TO FASHOLA: MY GENERATOR SUPPLIES MY ELECTRICITY

Bakare, who ran on the same ticket with Buhari in 2011, said Babatunde Fashola, minister of power, works and housing, has not also been able to deliver with the current structure.

“My dearest brother oloyemeta ; housing, works and power, is doing his best, but my generator is still supplying my electricity. Works, we can’t see, housing, we can’t see. Is it their fault? They say there’s no money to do it but they are earning salary.

“Should any of them take one penny for job not done? If it is not working, while not tell the whole world it’s not working, I cant work under these circumstances. Until you restructure, you can’t do nothing. You are a clean man that has jumped into a sewage tank; you can’t come out smelling like roses.

“That you had a free hand to run Lagos between you and your brother does not mean you should be doing what you like… Restructure.”

IN 2015, I GAVE BUHARI A 42-PAGED DOCUMENT TO RESTRUCTURE NIGERIA

The revered lawyer added that long before restructuring became a common word in the political space, he had given the president a 42-page document on how to restructure Nigeria.

“Those in government and leadership position who truly love this nation know within themselves that we must restructure as soon as possible in order not to further impede the growth and development of our nation,” he said.

“At the long last, APC has now formed a committee to define restructuring — the question is who can bring about the rebirth and the transformation of our nation? I will answer with two answers: I will tell you those who cannot and those who can.
“One, the jackals and the tigers cannot do it, whether they are in the senate or the executive arm of our government.

Apologies to those who recently used animal metaphors to describe our polity.

But the reality of animals is that they are always what they are and will always be so.
“Answer number two, those who can; only humans posses the abilities to transform themselves by the renewing of their minds, animals can’t do it. And those who call themselves lions and jackals and those who responded are birds of the same feather.

“You want to turn the whole nation into George Orwell’s animal farm so that a boxer will always be saying comrade Napoleon is always right? You want a kingdom where some animals are equal and others are more equal?

“Two months into this administration, we prepared a 42-page document for the restructuring of Nigeria and gave it to the president; this is the way to go, now they are forming a committee to define restructuring.

“You are putting in charge those who say they don’t believe in it; what are you going to get? Committees are always long in minutes and short in hours. They will write minutes upon minutes and nothing will happen and then they will put it in KIV(Keep in view).”

OSINBAJO IS DOING WELL IN THE MIDST OF JACKALS AND TIGERS

The pastor said the acting president has been doing well “in the midst of jackals and tigers”.

“If you look at the situation in Nigeria today, you will say hopeless. Our president is sick, the acting president told us he’s recovering fast and he will soon be back. And his wife said all the tigers, and the hyenas, God is going to answer the prayers of weaker animals and bring the lion back so he can deal with the hyenas and the jackals.

“Now, which language is much more coarse? I used Adonijahs and Absaloms, you asked for my neck. Now, you are all hyenas and jackals and tigers. Oh yes, somebody provoked her to say such, but listen to me brothers and sisters, whether you are jackals or lions, it doesnt bother me.

“One thing I know is that God’s purpose for this country will stand. His counsel concerning this nation will stand. Nigeria will fulfil her destiny.”

PoliticsMilitants Strip Women Unclad In Akwa Ibom And Film Them by Islie(op): 8:17am On Jul 25, 2017
By Emmanuel Ayungbe

NWANIBA— SUSPECTED militants and pirates, last week, in Akwa Ibom State, abducted several market women, whisked them to their hideouts in the creeks, where they forced them at gunpoint to take their clothes off, defiled and took several pictures of their womanhood with their phones.

NDV learned that the women from different communities in the state and neighbouring Cross River State were returning from Nwaniba community market in Uruan local government of the state when over 10 masked men ambushed the two speedboats separately conveying them, commandeered them to their camp. They dispossessed them of their money and other valuables in the den before humiliating them.

Reports said the women were heartlessly beaten and sexually abused by the gangsters, who inflicted machete cuts on the women that refused to succumb to their inordinate sexual desire. They removed the outboard engines of the two speedboats that carried the women and fled their camp, leaving them behind.

No official complaint yet — Police

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, said: “Failure of the community to file the matter with the Police in the area was hampering investigation and action on the problem.”

He, therefore, advised the public to always volunteer information on crimes and criminal elements to security agencies for prompt action.

Contacted on the matter, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in-charge of the area, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunday Effiong, who described the incident as pathetic, also said that it had not been reported to the Police.

We were sexually abused —Mrs. John

One of the victims, Mrs. Christiana Sunday John, who spoke through an interpreter, lamented amid tears: “We were badly treated, our womanhood was abused. I joined the second speed boat going back home when midway into our journey; another speed boat from nowhere blocked us.

”To my greatest surprise, the boat was conveying over 10 hefty masked men, two of the armed masked men jumped into our boat and ordered the boat operator to take to one of their camps in the creeks. The two armed men robbed the twenty five (25) of us on board the speed boat before we got to their destination.

“At the camp, they forced us to pull-off, we were forced to pull everything to the pant and they asked at gunpoint to expose our private parts while they took several shots with their camera phones,” she asserted.

Market shut down

Mrs. John further disclosed: “After the dehumanizing experience, they left us. Most of the women, who initially proved stubborn, went home with machete cuts. Two boats loaded with women returning from Nwaniba Market were attacked.

After their evil operation, they removed the boat engines, living us stranded in their camp. They collected N70,000, which was all I had on me, now I do not know how to start all over again.”

Chairman, Nwaniba Village Council, Elder Samuel Jeo, who confirmed the incident to NDV, said the saddest thing was that mothers and wives of our men were forced to dance nude while they were being filmed, adding: “This is the most embarrassing criminal operation in Nwaniba. We built that market with community effort, now militants have closed down the market.

“No customer would want to come here and risk his or her life. The market was built two years ago, now we cannot generate revenue because of the effect of militancy and pirates who are terrorizing the area on a daily basis,” he stated.

Govt should wade in

Notable Nwaniba community leader, Chief Emmanuel Ben Akpan, who was out of town when NDV visited, told our reporter on phone: ”Our men can no longer go for fishing to feed the family while the women cannot go to the market or farm, we are stranded.”

Urging the state government to intervene urgently as their means of livelihood was greatly threatened; he said the latest attack was not the first, as the community lost over N20 million in one of their previous invasions.

Criminals on rampage

Elder Jeo said militants and pirates were operating freely in the area, pointing out that on June 27, they killed many persons and razed about four villages, including Edile Ikpa, Ufak-Effiong, Akpa-Mfurukim and Akara Obio Uruan.

“Last week, we recovered the decomposed remains of Enang of Mbiakong village, killed with his machete in his cassava farm. In Nwaniba, we are living in fear, no government protection,” he asserted.

Lawmaker fumes

Also bemoaning the sufferings of the people, the member representing Uruan in the House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, who had presented a Bill to curb the excesses of the gangsters and other intruders in the areas, stated that properties worth millions of naira had been destroyed in a series of attacks in the past with dozens either missing or killed.

He said in one of the brazen attacks, the invaders razed down the only primary school in the community, thereby disrupting teaching and learning and the future of the young ones.

According to him, fishing gears, outboard engines, boats, cash and other valuables, were carted away by the invaders from neighbouring Creek Town, Ikot Offiong and Ikoneto in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Militants come from outside A’Ibom – LG boss

Speaking on the matter, chairman, Uruan local government, Dr. Edwin Okon, complained: ”My people in the fishing communities have suffered untold hardship in the hands of militants, who always cross into Akwa Ibom through the waterways.

Military check point

“We have lost countless numbers of people to these militants and we want government and other agencies, including the National Emergency Manage-ment Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of the displaced people”, he said.

Those who were kidnapped came from Bayelsa – Okon

A businessman, who was kidnapped, last year, Mr. Patrick Okon, said there was practically no security in the area, adding: “We need gun boats, military check points and operational naval units to step up security. This is one of the largest creeks and the communities around here are unprotected.

He further said: “I was kidnapped June 12, last year, and taken to Bayelsa State where I spent five months before I was released after paying millions to my abductors.

Imagine that militants will come all the way from Bayelsa and Rivers states into Akwa Ibom State and take me away, they sailed with me on the high seas for six hours before getting to our destination without any challenge from security agents is unbelievable.

PoliticsWhy I Stopped Fighting Saraki – Marafa by Islie(op): 2:40pm On Jul 24, 2017
PMB, APC, Not Juicy Committee Stopped Me Fighting Saraki – Marafa

By Ismail Mudashir

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Kabiru Marafa (APC, Zamfara) has said that a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) made him to stop fighting the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and not the ‘juicy committee’ given to him.

Marafa, who was Saraki’s lone critic at the upper chamber, until he was made the chairman of the petroleum committee, said he had nothing personal against the senate president at the height of their crisis.

Reacting to a statement by the Coalition of Northern Youth Organisations (CNYO), tagged ‘The Enemy Within: Unveiling the True Character of Senator Kabiru Marafa’, he said nobody could use him to undermine President Buhari’s administration.

“I did not fight Bukola Saraki because he is Saraki; I fought because my party said I should fight, and when my party said I should stop, I stopped. The decision to end all these hostilities that brought the two sides (Unity Forum and like minds) together was taken by APC and President Buhari himself.

“It was not me or anybody; the party said ‘my children, come together, this one has won the senate presidency, you, this side, give them the senate leader and deputy senate leader, and it was done.’

“Was that not what happened? Now, you have formed committees, give them some committees; is that not what happened? I don’t know why Nigerians forget things easily. It was the party and President Buhari that called for ceasefire,” he said.

Dispelling a report that he wanted to make Saraki the acting president when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia) on July 4, this year, said there was nowhere in the constitution that said acting president could be nominated by the National Assembly.

“What happened that day was that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe was given a chance to contribute to a debate on whether the senate should accept the letter from the acting president seeking the senate to confirm a nominee as the Director General of the National Lottery Commission; that was the topic of discussion and Senator Abaribe, from Abia, was given a chance to contribute.

In his contribution, he accused our government; I am APC blood and soul, that the problem is there is vacuum of leadership in Nigeria, that there is no leadership. That statement was an insult on our government, and I rose to defend my government and I shouted point of order,” he said.

“The senate president, who is also an APC member, felt the same way and he gave me the chance to read my point of order. I raised Order 53(4), which says ‘a senator must confine his observation to subject of discussion and may not introduce matters irrelevant there to,’” he said.

PoliticsLateef Ajikanle Electrocuted In Flooding by Islie(op): 8:44am On Jul 24, 2017
Samson Folarin

https://punchng.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/23230030/Alhaji-Lateef-Ajikanle.jpg

A member of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lateef Ajikanle, has been electrocuted in his home on Bolaji Omupo Street, Somolu.

The father of four reportedly returned home after prayers in a mosque to meet his compound flooded.

It was gathered that the flood was worsened by the rubble of a collapsed fence owned by a poultry farmer on an adjoining street, Lisabi Street.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the Oyo State indigene waded through the flood. He was reportedly picking rubbish in the water when he was electrocuted.

A neighbour, who attempted to rescue him was also reportedly electrocuted, but escaped death by a whisker.

Officials of the Ikeja Electric, Onipanu Business District, were said to have been alerted to the incident.

After power was disconnected from the community, Lateef, who also worked with the State Universal Basic Education Board, was reportedly rushed to a general hospital where he was confirmed dead.

His younger sister, Monsuru Ajikanle, told our correspondent on Sunday that the 50- year - old was preparing to participate in the last Saturday's local government election when tragedy struck.

She said, “ He went to the mosque that day. The rain started early in the morning and everywhere was flooded. He was coming back from the mosque around 7 am when he saw that the fence owned by the poultry farmer on the next street had collapsed on the pumping machine in our compound.

“ Also, the flood water could not flow out and there were waste paper and other dirty materials everywhere. He started picking the rubbish from the water. He was doing that when his hand touched the live wire exposed after the fence fell on the pumping machine . He was electrocuted.

“ One of our neighbours, Femi, ran into the flood to help him, but the electric current in the water forced him back. We called the Ikeja Electric to disconnect the power. ”

Monsuru told our correspondent that Lateef was rushed to the General Hospital, Somolu, where he was confirmed dead.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim ’ s wife had been taken to their family house in the Surulere area.

Our correspondent was told that Lateef worked in the Supply and Finance Department of SUBEB, Somolu.

Another family member, Dele Alakija , blamed the owner of the poultry for the incident.

Alakija said , “The poultry is on Lisabi Street, and the fence that collapsed was built by the owner to separate the poultry from our compound. We had reported to the local government about a year ago that the man's operation was making life difficult for us and he should relocate , but nothing was done.

“ Alhaji (Lateef) had written a letter which we planned to submit on the menace of the poultry. When the fence fell on the pumping machine, it exposed a live wire from the machine and that was what killed him . The poultry should cease operation.

The offensive stench of the birds and the noise from the generator are unbearable. ”

Our correspondent learnt that the incident was reported to the police at the Somolu division.

A check on the Facebook page of the deceased showed he was indeed a staunch member of the APC as some friends paid tributes to his memories and leadership.

Among his last activities on the social media was the poster of the chairmanship candidate of the APC in Surulere.

A top source at the General Hospital, Somolu, confirmed the incident, adding that Lateef was brought in dead.

“ A 50- year - old man was brought by some neighbours. They claimed that he stepped on a live cable during the heavy rain and was electrocuted. He was brought in dead, ” he said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous - Cole, said the police were not aware of the incident.

“Nothing like that at Somolu division please, ” he said.

The Head, Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric, Felix Ofulue, said the company was not to blame for the death.

He said, “ The man was electrocuted by his pumping machine. His pumping machine had a wire cut which fell into a pool of water. He was raking the dirt in his house when he was electrocuted.”

An inmate of Kaduna Prison, Bashir Ali has confessed to the police how he managed to sneak out of the prison for days just to collect his share from a robbery incident that took place in Kano.

Ali whose mother is from Tokyo, Japan, was arrested alongside some of his gang members identified as Umaru Inusa, Ahmed Kamalu, Adamu Danjuma and Barfa Ahmad by detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Tactical Squad (STS).

On his arrest, police sources said that sometime in June, a gang of robbers invaded Kofaruwa quarters in Kano and robbed about three houses. They stole a Toyota Matrix car and several valuables, which include laptops, television sets, phones and money.

The victims alerted the operatives of STS while the officer in-charge of the squad, ACP Yusuf Kolo deployed detectives to fish out the gang members. In the course of investigation, they arrested some of the gang members and recovered the car and some other valuables that they were yet to dispose.

It was in the process of further investigation that detectives discovered that one of the masterminds of the robbery, Bashir Ali was in Kaduna prison. Unknown to him (Ali), some of his gang members had been arrested by the police. Hoping that it was business as usual, Ali sneaked out of the prison to collect his share from the proceeds of the robbery when policemen who were on his trail arrested him.

Journey to prison

At the police station, Ali who speaks impeccable English said it was greed that landed him in prison as he is from a good home. “I am an indigene of Kano State and my mother is from Tokyo. She came to Kano with her parents who were traders. In the process, she (Ali’s mother) fell in love with my father and I am a proud product of that love. I am married and I have three kids. I have no reason to commit crime because I also have an option of travelling to Tokyo if I was not satisfied with my financial status in Nigeria.”

On his journey to Kano Central prison, Karaumawa, Ali recalled that sometime in 2010, he got involved in a shady business, which led to the sale of a property in Kano that belongs to one of his friends.

“Boys were broke so we were looking for every possible means to make money. So my friend Ahmed who just lost his father then told me that he wanted to sell one of his father’s houses without the consent of the family. He said that since he was also part of the family that no one will question his decision. We got several estate agents involved and finally sold it for N8million.

“Unfortunately, when the buyer wanted to take possession of the property, the family members refused insisting that they never consented to it and that the documents presented were stolen.

We were arrested same year and charged to court. I was sentenced to seven years jail in 2015 after awaiting trial for two years.”

The stunt

After several years, Ali claimed that he was able to convince the prison warders that he had truly repented of his sins and was ready to be rehabilitated.

According to him, eleven of them were selected and transferred to Kaduna rehabilitation prison popularly known as Open Camp.

“I was lucky that they selected me in 2015. When we got to the camp, I chose to be a farmer where I learnt how to cultivate vegetables including curry leaves and waterleaves. The proceeds you get from the farm will be saved for you so that when you finish your stay in the prison, you will have money to start a new life.

In that prison you are free to roam around and sneak in and out of the yard unnoticed. The rule was that you must come for head count every 10am, 12pm, 2am and 6pm. So if you don’t want to get into trouble, wherever you go, you must return for head count.”

https://www.sunnewsonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/car-rec-172x300.jpg

He also alleged that the prison warders who were taking care of them were aware of these movements and normally keep tab on them. “It is a game of trust. The warder must approve of your movement so that if you mistakenly fail to return on time, he will give you a number in absence. We all have phones and whenever you cannot make it back on time, you will call the warder and tell him. It is also your responsibility to ensure that the warder is well taken care of financially so that he can cover for you in case you want to travel and spend some days outside.”

On his arrest, Ali lamented that while in Kano prison, he made a lot friends who have served out their jail terms. He collected most of their numbers and agreed to exchange ideas.

“It is good to make friends so that when they leave, they will help with money. Most of them who left went back to crime and normally send money to us.

“So while in Kaduna prison, one of them contacted me that they were broke and needed any means of making quick money.
It was during the Ramadan fast and everyone needed money to celebrate after the fasting. I gave them some ideas and people to meet. At the end of the robbery operation, they cheated me and hid the physical cash that they got. Luckily, Bawa kept one of the cars for me. I then referred them to an ex-convict who is into buying stolen cars.

They were on their way to deliver the car and money when police caught them. They were so wicked that they did not alert me that they had been caught. Rather, they called to tell me that the car had been sold that I should come to Zaria and collect my share.

“Few days to Sallah, I told the yard master popularly known as Baba Kubo and he granted me some days to travel. He knows that I will always come back, that was why he agreed. So around 12pm that day I left for Kano where they were supposed to wait for me. Because I did not have much money, I visited some of my friends in town and got some money before I proceeded to the agreed location. It was there that police arrested me,” he said.

Plea for mercy

Begging for mercy, Ali said he had truly repented but was just looking for money to buy Sallah gifts for himself and the warders who were kind to him. “I am finished; I can’t believe that I am going to start all over again. Please help me and don’t send me back to prison.”

He alleged that his life will get worse if he is sent back to prison. “The prison will turn you into a criminal. It does not change anyone because an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. Most especially, if you are from a poor home, no one will visit you or help you with money to hire a lawyer. There are so many people who stole chicken and goat that are in the prison. They are there because they could not afford the option of fine given by the magistrate.

“I assure you that by the time they spend a year or two serving their sentence they will steal a car as soon as they are released,” he alleged.

More suspects

Another suspect, Adamu who contacted Ali for the robbery claimed that he was simply obeying the instruction of his brother, Bawa. “My brother called me to get in-touch with Ali that he is aware of the robbery and the proceeds. It was Ali who gave us the number of the buyer. We were on our way to Zaria to meet the buyer when policemen caught us.”

Yet another suspect, Bafa, an Islamic cleric said that it was greed that led them to committing crime. “I am a native of Maiduguri and my parents decided to send me to Arabic school to learn how to be a priest. Upon graduation, I started praying for people in trouble. This did not give me enough money because I normally collect N500 to pray for people and if they succeed they might come back to appreciate me.

Some of them are criminals and when they succeed they will come back and give me gifts. This was how Kabiru and three other boys came to me. After the robbery, they brought the car and asked me to help them sell it. It was a Toyota Matrix and they wanted to sell it for N800, 000. The agreement was that whatever extra money we get from the sale belongs to me. We were on our way to meet the buyer when the police arrested us,” he said.

Prison Service reacts

When contacted, the Nigeria Prison Service Public Relations Officer, Francis Enabore said that no inmate in the Kaduna open prison is allowed to leave the premises unaccompanied. “These are inmates who have spent better part of their sentences in the regular prisons with walls. They are recommended by their prison warder to be of good behaviour.

They are transferred to that prison to prepare them for the journey ahead when they finally regain their freedom. They are allowed to visit the farms, which are within the premises and monitored from a distance. Any attempt to leave the premises, the person will be cautioned. These inmates who are determined to be better persons in the society normally obey the law guarding the prison.”

On the recent arrest of Ali outside the prison, Enabore assured that the discovery will be investigated and any officer found culpable will be dealt with according to the law.

Meanwhile another senior prison officer who spoke with Saturday Sun on the condition of anonymity explained that the Kaduna open prison is meant for inmates who have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they are of good behavior. “Such person will be recommended by warders who have monitored them over the years.

They are selected all over the country to go to that prison for proper rehabilitation. They are taught different handiworks including farming. The proceeds gotten will be saved for them, which will be given to the inmates at the end of their stay in prison.

“Such persons are allowed to wander around the yard especially to their farms. They are expected to return every 6pm for head count. They are not allowed to travel, therefore any officer who permits that will be punished.”

On the arrest of Ali, he said that most of the inmates are good at deceiving the system. “They pretend to have repented just to be released. I guess Ali is a typical example of such. It’s unfortunate that the officer who approved his transfer will be in trouble.”

FamilyWidow Cries For Help, Alleges Threat To Life By Late Husband’s Family (pic) by Islie(op): 5:55pm On Jul 22, 2017
By Nabob Ogbonna, Abakaliki

Mrs Ibeh and children

Mrs. Odinaka Ibeh, a widow and mother of five, today lives at the mercy of people for the provision of food and shelter as she runs from her in-laws who are accusing her of being responsible for the death of her husband. She says she goes to God daily in tears and prayer for vindication over her present predicament.

Odinaka’s problem began immediately she lost her husband Cyriacus Ibeh, who was once a well-to-do businessman. They had lived together in Lagos until his health condition began to deteriorate as a result of a kidney infection. He later died at St. Rita Hospital and Maternity Ugwuabo Umuobom in Imo State where he was taken to for treatment.

She said her late husband, who was a Sabbath Mission faithful, had initially refused medical treatment due to his faith and rather sought spiritual treatment which did not yield any positive result.

The widow, who is now taking refuge in a prayer house in Abakaliki, with her children, is alleging that one Mr. Ekene Ibeh, who claims to be the most senior member of the Ibeh family, is threatening her life.

In a letter signed by Mrs Ibeh and addressed to the National Council of Non Government Organizations and Civil Society Organization in Nigeria, to come to her aid, she stressed that the intentions of Ekene and others in the family is to deny her and her five children access to and ownership of her late husband’s property.

Part of the letter read, “We are now taking refuge in Abakaliki with a woman of God who has been responsible for our feeding for the past 4 months. I hope you would help to save us from being killed by Mr. Ekene Ibe and his group,” she pleaded.

Odinaka in the letter further noted that she was the legitimate wife of the deceased, married to him according to law and custom, with all rights fulfilled since 2010.

“To be honest with you, when he became seriously ill, one of his brothers named Chinonso Ibeh, in company of some other relatives, conveyed him to our home town for proper upkeep and from where he was finally admitted at St. Rita’s Hospital and Maternity, Ugwuabo Umuobom, Imo State.”

“It would sound unbelievable that instead of the so called Ekene Ibeh to sympathize with me and my little children over the death of their father and brother, and help to collectively plan his burial, Mr. Ekene Ibeh and his cohorts took to threatening my life and that of my children and other members of the family who opposed him and has succeeded in chasing us away to Abakaliki,” the letter stated.

When contacted, Mr.  Ekene Ibeh accused his brother’s wife of desecrating the custom of the land. He insisted that Odinaka and Chinonso Ibeh had no right to fix the burial of late Cyriacus without the consent of the other members of the family.

Ekene, who expressed worry over their disregard of the family’s directive to conduct an autopsy on the deceased to ascertain the cause of his death, maintained that the wife had no right according to tradition to bury her husband without the approval of the entire family.

However, Jacob Cyriacus - the only male child of the late man, told Daily Trust that he has not attended school since the death of his father.

“I’ve not been to school since my father died because we’ve not been able to settle in one place. We’ve been moving from one town to another and worse still, we no longer eat together, joke and play as a family.”

Jacob called on good spirited Nigerians and organization to come to their aid, saying their present lifestyle would seriously affect his future.

Politics2019: Inside Pdp’s Plans To Topple APC by Islie(op): 3:21pm On Jul 22, 2017
By Hamza Idris & Saawua Terzungwe

The acrimony in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last two years, occasioned by the protracted leadership tussle between Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff had, to a great extent, compelled many optimists and die-hard supporters of the party to give up. However, the recent Supreme Court judgment did not only rekindle hope in the PDP, but gave its handlers the confidence to write-off the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) long before the 2019 election year.

Leaders of the PDP have in the last few days rolled out plans that would help them win in 2019 as evidenced in the confidence they exuded shortly after the Supreme Court judgment that settled their protracted crisis.

They made many collective proclamations and individual statements on how they would recapture power from the APC.

Though the PDP leaders have made public some of the strategies they would adopt to unseat the APC, they nonetheless, for the sake of expediency, kept other tricks very close to their chests.

It was gathered that PDP handlers would between now and election time work tirelessly to revive its comatose structures across the country, bring back key elders, senior officials and members that defected to other parties.

This, it was further learnt, would be achieved by deploying facts and figures in convincing Nigerians that the ruling APC is not actually what it said it was before 2015.

Most importantly, the PDP will weed out elements who were allegedly planted by the ruling APC to cause confusion within its ranks.

Sources within the party said some of the strategies they would use will only be unveiled as the political temperament progresses ahead of 2019, just like what the APC did between 2013 and 2014 ahead of the 2015 elections.

The aggressive manner which the PDP is trying to rediscover itself is evident in the way many of its leaders who hitherto disappeared from the political scene suddenly resurfaced with much confidence. They all regained their voices shortly after the Supreme Court which upheld Senator Makarfi as national chairman.

Already, people like the acclaimed national leader of the party, ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Makarfi, Chief Olabode George and the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin, have all said a lot to renew hope in the minds of their followers that indeed, there would be another opportunity for the PDP.

They all  found relief when the three-man panel of justices at the Supreme Court stated that in the course of the two year dispute, Sheriff had displayed an “infantile desperation to remain in power” which was not legally his.

Sheriff had filed 10 different suits in different courts within one year in his bid to remain in power, an act the Supreme Court said would only gather dust in judicial archives.

On the day the Supreme Court announced the final judgment, many PDP leaders thronged to the court in Abuja. They included former governors of Jigawa and Kano, Sule Lamido and Ibrahim Shekarau; governors Ayo Fayose and Nyesom Wike of Ekiti and Rivers States, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Olabode Bode George, Emeka Ihedioha Ben Obi and Dayo Adeyeye and Professor Jerry Gana were all at the Supreme Court and later at the PDP secretariat, signifying a new realignment for the party.

Jonathan, who had distanced himself from serious politicking, also said PDP is now back.

What PDP leaders did before the judgment

Sources said Jonathan and other leaders  had endless sleepless nights when the PDP case reached the apex court considering the fact that Sheriff, the embattled chairman of the party, had won in many of the cases in High Courts and the Appeal Court.

“He (Jonathan) was really disturbed because he doesn’t want to be made a laughing stock on the grounds that the PDP fell under his watch,” a source in the PDP said.

“Though the ex-president did not directly try to influence the judgment at the Supreme Court in any way, he directed some of the best legal brains working for him to put heads together with Makarfi’s lawyers in order not to have a miscarriage at the apex court,” he said.

“President Jonathan was actually disturbed because Sheriff had cursed and disparaged almost everyone in the PDP. At a time, he walked out on Jonathan and later issued a statement asking anyone not satisfied with his leadership to leave the PDP and form another one. So, we were able to argue our case very well at the Supreme Court and judgment favoured us,” he said.

In several twits on his Twitter handle a few minutes after the judgment, Jonathan removed the veil on his shoulders to re-launch himself firmly in the PDP by calling on former members of the party that defected over the leadership crisis to return “home.”

“I thank God for this day of Justice and may God bless Nigeria,” he said.

Another apparent advantage for the PDP is that most of its leaders do not see the issue of zoning its presidential candidate as a problem.

At its Port Harcourt convention in 2016 which was contested by Sheriff but upheld by the Supreme Court, the PDP leaders had adopted the report of the Senator Ike Ekweremadu-led committee which zoned the party’s presidential ticket to the North and the national chairmanship position to the South.

And in the last one week, PDP leaders held four major meetings and resolved many contentious issues.

The meetings included the expanded caucus meeting, the caucus meeting, the BoT meeting and the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

At the end of the meetings, leaders of the party resolved to hold a non-elective convention in August this year.

The National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said they would use the special non-elective convention to settle all the constitutional matters.

Sources said there is the likelihood for the tenure of the Makarfi-led caretaker committee to be extended. This, according to the sources, is to enable it organize a convention that will usher in new elected leaders for the party.

Other areas which the PDP leaders harped include discipline and impunity, two areas which pundits said affected the party in 2015 when many of its vibrant followers were frustrated.

The NEC meeting held recently proposed amendments in the party’s constitution that will deal with issues of discipline, internal democracy and administrative bottlenecks.

The Makarfi-led caretaker committee had during one of the meetings announced what it called “amnesty” for the Sheriff group.

In a separate interview, Makarfi, who sounded very serious, said a line had been drawn, meaning that any member who erred again after the Supreme Court judgment would face the wrath of the law.

Political solution may prove tough

While there is evidence of sanity in the PDP, the Makarfi committee would have to contend with recalcitrant members and this would only be resolved through political massaging.

For instance, The South West faction of the PDP loyal to Sheriff has defected to the Mega Party of Nigeria (MPN).

The faction, which  has representation in all the six states of the South-west, said the alleged inflammatory statements of the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, and removal of the names of some of the leaders of the party in the region at recent meetings held in Abuja, were responsible for their decision to leave the PDP.

The South-west chairman of the faction and former PDP chairman in Ondo State, Hon. Ebenezer Alabi, said they resolved to leave the party for Governor Fayose and his cohorts.

“We believe in the judiciary and we had intention of cooperating with the Makarfi group before they started making inflammatory comments. They said they wanted to give us amnesty as if we were Boko Haram or militants,” he said.

Sheriff also proved defiant in a statement he issued after the various meetings held by the party which he did not attend.

In a statement by his spokesman, Bernard Mikko, Sheriff, who sounded as if he is still the chairman of the party, called on his supporters to remain in the PDP until it was returned to the grass roots.

Bigwigs who quit PDP that must return

Many PDP chieftains have left the party and while some might likely return in the event realignment in the APC did not favour them, others must be cajoled to have soft spot for it even if they would not return.

Prominent politicians that are no longer in the PDP include former president Olusegun Obasanjo, former vice president  Atiku Abubakar, former PDP national chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur,  former governors Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Joshua Dariye (Plateau), Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi) and Saminu Turaki (Jigawa).

Incumbent governor Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi) and Samuel Ortom (Benue) were all members of the PDP before they defected to the APC at the height of electioneering.

Others that defected include former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former governor of the old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, Senator Nelson Effiong (Akwa Ibom South), Senator Andy Uba (Anambra South), former PDP national chairman, Chief Barnabas Gemade, former governor of Edo State Oserheimen Osunbor, former deputy governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud Gumel and Senator Muhammad Baban Beta among many others.

Thousands of PDP followers across the 37 states of the federal have defected and would need to be convinced to return to make it strong ahead of 2019.

But the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said they are not afraid.

“Makarfi or Ali-Modu Sheriff is no threat to us, we are looking at the institution and not the person. The PDP is a party that institutionalised corruption and failed to handle the security of the nation,” he said.

FamilyMy Wife Lives With Lover, But I Still Want Her Back’ by Islie(op): 11:16am On Jul 21, 2017
Adepoju Opeoluwa

A 40-year-old engineer, Mr. Andy Uzor, has told an Ifako Ijaiye Customary Court, Ogba, Lagos State, that he was ready to mend fences with his wife, Mrs. Uzor Adaeze Favour, even though she was living with her lover in a building adjacent to his.

The 32-year-old Favour, a fashion designer, filed for divorce, claiming that her husband used to beat and strip her in public. She also said that her husband had refused to pay her bride price, even after three children.

She said there was no more love in the marriage. According to her, she and Andy had been living together since 2008.

She said: “He has refused to go and see my parents in Delta State.

Every time I remind him, he would say he didn’t have money.”

But Uzor said that since Favour moved out their matrimonial home in May 2016, he had discovered that she was living with another man in the building next to his.

The man promised that he would go and see Favour’s parents, in order to pay the bride price if the court did not dissolve the union.

But Favour insisted she wanted the marriage to be dissolved and urged the court to give her custody of the three children.

CrimePolice Arrest Fake Recruitment Syndicate In Edo (pic) by Islie(op): 7:46am On Jul 21, 2017

A syndicate that has duped hundreds of Niger Delta youths with a promise to secure jobs for them under the Federal Ethnic Council has been smashed by the Edo State Police Command.

The syndicate sold recruitment forms to their victims for N15,000 after making them to pay N2,000 registration fee.

It reportedly told its victims that they would be recruited by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and will work under the Communities Security Operation Department.

Syndicate leader, who gave his name as Prince Oyibo Emmanuel, was nabbed in Benin where he came to address some youths.

He was paraded with two of his members, Director of Women Affairs Oyibo Enonegberu and Secretary Etsede Emmanuel.

Prince Oyibo, who said he was leader and commander of the group, said the Federal Ethnic Council was for youths in oil and gas producing areas in Niger Delta to work as security operatives.

Oyibo said he didn’t need to register the organisation because it was recognised by the Ministry of Niger Delta.

He said: “We don’t keep the money we collect because the money is used to keep peace in oil and gas producing communities. We have many communities that recommended their youths. I did not register the company.

It was the Federal Government that gave directive at a stakeholders meeting. I represent all ethnic nationalities. To register is N1,000. We are recognised but it is the Federal Government that will train them and give them jobs.”

Etsede, who claimed to be an artisan, said his friend told him about the supposed Federal Government job.

He said he paid them N15,000 for the form and they issued him an ID card pending the job’s availability.

“Last Saturday, I was called by the commander that he want to address the people that applied in Edo State. After his address, there was an argument and the people demanded refund. They called for police and he was arrested.”

“I was not paid any money. They said I should wait till the job is ready. We don’t do any security operation. I have not followed them. The commander has a secretary, director and deputy director in Edo State.”

The director of Women Affairs said she was nabbed when she came to give them food at the police station.

Police Commissioner Haliru Gwandu said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

SportsEx Rangers Coach, Imama Arrested In Abuja, Whisked Away To Enugu (pic) by Islie(op): 8:03pm On Jul 20, 2017
FRANCIS ACHI /Abuja

https://pmexpressng.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/FB_IMG_1500540309655.jpg

An ugly incident was witnessed outside the office of League Management Company (LMC) in Maitama, Abuja when Imama Amapakabo, title winning coach of Enugu Rangers was arrested on Wednesday evening and was taken to the Police station in Maitama, where he spent the night and was whisked away to Enugu state early hours of Thursday.

Imama, a member of 1985 World Cup winning Golden Eaglets team in China has been having a running battle with the management of Rangers Football Club of Enugu over his suspension and eventual sack from the team he tutored to break the 32 years jinx of not winning the league, as he won the Nigeria Professional Football League ( NPFL) title last year.

According to the information gathered by PM EXPRESS in Abuja, Coach Imama was supposed to have a meeting organised by the LMC with the management of Enugu Rangers and a representative of LMC to iron out the differences and chart the way forward between the club and the coach, by resolving the matter amicably.

Unfortunately, Imama was arrested outside the LMC office immediately he stepped out of the building on the account that he is still holding in his possession the offcial car given to him by the management of Rangers after the termination of his contract few months ago.

The former assistant coach of Enyimba of Aba was then taken to the Maitaima police station, where he spent the night before being whisked away to Enugu early on Thursday.

PM EXPRESS scoped that Imama insisted that Enugu Rangers is owing him about N28million on the breach of contract and other unpaid financial entitlements , but the management of the team have a contrary opinion.

The image maker of the team, Foster Chime further spoke on the matter when he informed PM EXPRESS via telephone conversation that the club is not owing the embattled coach any money and even informed further that Imama refused to handover the car and his official apartment in Enugu to the club.

“It is very unfortunate that the matter got to this stage. I want to state here and you can quote me that Enugu Rangers is not owing Coach Imama any money. He was even given N4million for winning the league title last year. It is just sad, but he ought to have done the right thing by submitting all the property of the club in his possession to the management,” Chime said.

It has been observed over the years that the management of Enugu Rangers are fond of having running battles with their coaches in terms of honouring their financial obligations to their coaches and aside from Imama Amapakabo, the club is also having financial issues with Coach John Obuh, another former coach of the club, who was sacked about three years ago and has not been paid all his financial entitlements till date.

CrimeMan Stabbed Son In Neck, Stomach (photo) by Islie(op): 5:07pm On Jul 19, 2017
Police nab man who stabbed son in neck, stomach

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested Joshua Oyapidan, the man who allegedly stabbed his son, Favour, in the neck and stomach.

He was paraded at the command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta , on Tuesday.

It had been reported on Monday that the suspect butchered his son, Favour, after he lured him into the bush near the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate, along Siun - Sagamu - Abeokuta Expressway .

Favour, 11, was stabbed by the father in many parts of the body, including the neck and stomach, while the victim pretended to be dead.

His father thereafter abandoned him in the bush.

Before the incident, the victim was living with his father, stepmother and her two children at Abule Agbon, in the Obafemi - Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Favour, who later crawled out of the bush, was said to have been rescued by a Good Samaritan and was admitted to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.

The suspect said he never knew what came over him on the day.

Oyapidan, who claimed be an electrician and commercial motorcyclist (okada rider), said Favour had been a source of pain to him because he engaged in stealing and had run away from home many times.

He explained that the baale of their community had threatened to banish him from the village because of his son ’s behaviour.

He said, “I had Favour while I was in secondary school, Adeoye Lambo Memorial High School, Obada Oko. I never got married to his mother because we were both young.

“ On that day, I returned from my okada work, and my neighbour told me that my son stole corn and bought some things in the name of my neighbour and I decided to deal with him.

“I hid a kitchen knife in my pocket and I told him I was taking him to a new place.

But on the way, I stabbed him in the neck and stomach, and we both fell into a ditch.

“He was bleeding, and I used cloth to bind the wound in his stomach and I left him there and went home.

“I regret my action, because I never knew what came upon me that day. I beg for mercy from all Nigerians.”

Thirty- year - old Oyapidan said his wife, Adeola, had deserted him because of his action.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed that the suspect be charged to court after investigation.

Oyeyemi added that the suspect would be charged with attempted murder.
