My NL name is Isusugbaghada meaning BIG DEVIL/EVIL In Edo language gotten from the first OBA N IKHUENE Y EDO (the oba of ikhuen that never enter benin) of Evekoi

Can you tell the story behind the bolded

Isusugbaghada was one of the magician that lived and worked for Oba Ewuare the great just like the great Esan magician Okpota

Isusugbaghada was a very powerful man who worship the deity Okhuaihe and at this period there nothing like Oba n ikhuen as the title was created by Oba Ewuare

Reason..

As it's known in old Benin, when an individual becomes too powerful he will be restricted from seeing the Oba for security reason

2) the title Was to thank him for service rendered

Till today the Oba of Benin and the Oba n ikhuen only see each other once in their life time ( ie the Oba most visit the palace of the Oba n ikhuen ) before ascending the throne for fortification purpose and after that they are not permited to see again in order to follow the existing principle set by Oba Ewuare

This current Oba also did it and previous Oba also did it that's when you will hear people saying that will be visiting Evekoi today

Evekoi as a word actually means "deep secret or strong words" and the Oba of ikhuen is an Oba with function only to the Oba of Benin

If not for these today's society, there are individuals that are not permitted to just enter Benin like that eg
Oba n ikhuen
Ohen olokun urhonigbe
Ohen ukoni
Ohen olokun ughoton Asonmwenriri

I greet you bro

Thanks a million bro

It very important to share knowledge for the proper advancement of our people

But I would really say the ability to discipher most word in Benin you must understand most ancient words in Edo language

Oba names are Edoid and are done in form of puzzle and top secret only to be explain normally after coronation

Culture / The Names And Meaning Of The Obas Of Benin In Edo by Isusugbaghada: 8:57am On Nov 04, 2021
My NL name is Isusugbaghada meaning BIG DEVIL/EVIL In Edo language gotten from the first OBA N IKHUENE Y EDO (the oba of ikhuen that never enter benin) of Evekoi

I have made my research for long and I have come to understand that the names and meaning of Benin obas are not given directly in most case and it take several understanding to really know it meaning even if you understand Edo language for example EREDIAUWA is interpreted "I came to settle my people" (.IREDIAUWA), EWUARE, is interpreted "trouble has stop" ( OWORAE).

So in most cases I have come understand that the Oba of Benin derive their names from
1) the kingdom present condition
2) the kingdom future condition
3) their capacity as a person

For example Oba orhogbua is interpreted as " prophecy came true"( OROGBUA) ORO is another word for secret/ prophecy in Edo language and GBUA means "for something to come out" now let's not forget how orhogbua came to be king as he was given the option of being a missionary or king

2) again oba Esigie is interpreted "don't challenge my right of royalty"
This is a perfect word of warming to his brother Arhuanhuan( the giant)

3) oba ore_ oghene is interpreted "God own here" ORE means compound/place OGHENE means God
Now let's not forget that first problem benin had with European was with the Dutch so the name is like a warming to the Dutch

4)Oba Ohen discribe personality and it means "wise one" in Edo language Ohen is a Native doctor

5) oba Ewuare is interpreted "trouble has stop" this is a name given in reference to the trouble of all the four sons of Oba Ohen ( Oba Egbeka, Oba orobiru, oba uwaifiokun and Ewuare) whereby oba Ewuare junior brothers became king instead of him
The Ogidigan attach to Ewuares name is actually not a coronation name but a word people used in reference to the things he was doing
Ogidigan as a word does not literally mean GREAT but shock. But lets not forget that for something to shock you then it most be great...
I think that will give us the reason for the word great.

Note: mostly in Benin people only make use of the word OGIDIGAN when they are surprise or shock and the N ( ie N' OGIDIGAN) Is just a letter for description.

Lastly

Oba Ovoranmwen is interpreted "the rising son "Ovenranmwen this name refer to both present and future

1) present because of the saga of princes through Benin and Ewohimi and his rising after the saga
2)future simply deal with the British
So the Nogbaisi was a word attach to ovoranmwen after the British saga and the word has to do with his name spreading ( fame)

But I would really say the ability to decipher most word in Benin you must understand most ancient words in Edo language

Oba names are Edoid and are done in form of puzzle and top secret only to be explain normally after coronation

Understanding common Edo language cannot help with the names

Culture / Itsekiris Formally Inform Oba Of Benin On Coronation by Isusugbaghada: 10:37am On Aug 20, 2021
Some 24 hours to the coronation of a new Olu of Warri, Itsekiri Kingdom, the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has emphasised the need for the Itsekiri kingmakers to adhere, strictly, to the norms, tradition and customs of their kingdom.

The Olu of Warri designate, Omoba Tsola Emiko, will on Saturday be crowned as the Olu of Warri at the ancient Big Warri, traditionally known as Ode Itsekiri.

Oba Ewuare II said that adequate observance of ancient traditions and customs of the land would preserve the cultural heritage of the Itsekiri Kingdom.

The Omo N’Oba spoke late Thursday when the Uwangue of Warri, Chief Gabriel Awala, led a delegation to his palace in Benin to formally inform him of the coronation of the new Olu, Omoba Tsola Emiko scheduled for Saturday, 21st August 2021.

The Benin monarch assured of the Benin palace’s support for the Olu designate, insisting that the “cultural and traditional ties between Warri and Benin kingdoms would be strengthened”.

The Benin monarch promised that a high powered delegation would be sent from his palace to the coronation of the new Olu.

Earlier, Chief Awala who led top Itsekiri chiefs to the Benin palace, informed the Benin monarch through Chief Brown Meme, that they were at his palace to formally inform the Oba of the crowning of a new Olu in Warri kingdom.

He described the relationship between Warri and Benin as cordial and that the Benin monarch would continue to be a father to all.

The first son of course! And if for whatever reason he objects to been sworn in, then the Governor can go ahead and strip the throne all the awe and respect that the royal family think they have. Look it might be difficult but like i said earlier it is not impossible for any Governor that is hell bent on removing an Oba.

You mean like oshiomole strip the enogie of uromi family the title of being enogie ?

See like i said before the only thing any govt can do to the king in edo is to suspend them from their govt function but not to the ppo

Oshiomole knows he can't remove the enogie of uromi because nobody will take the position
So he was only able to suspend him but Today he is still enogie but oshiomole is no longer governor

Don't let your hate for benin culture makes you think your words will be able to Change the ways things are

The highest any govt can do to the king in edo is suspend him or better still kill the king for the son to take over, hope it makes you happy?

I couldnt help but laugh at those who believes the Oba can't be dethroned, i mean have you all forgotten that Nigeria is a republic and not a monarchy? The only source of authority in any part of Nigeria is the construction, and there's no where in it where either an Oba,Igwe or Emeir is recognised as a source or a weirder of power.
Agreed, it might be difficult but not impossible to dethrone any monarch.

So who will you use to replace him after deposition ?

But I would prefer a different location for the museum other than the palace, for Economic boost reason.

I don't know why you people refuse to understand simple English that
The Oba have sited land in the Adesogbe area ( the area is not inside the palace but it surrounding close to the palace)

An agreement formerly reach by obaseki and the Oba only for obaseki to change plans without the Oba knowledge

If you were the Oba would accept that ?

Interesting discourse...
I think most people don't realise the Benin system of traditional governance is ruled by a monarchy, just as in England, meaning only a particular family can rule.
Most governors know the headache this can cause because they can't just handover to anyone.
However, I still believe the Oba can be deposed and the baton handed over to their heir son especially, if the son is impatient for his turn, if he is greedy and if he is working in conjunction with the governor.

I am a full Edo blood
The truth is that what is the success of a deposition if you cannot appoint another person as king

1) the prince you talk about will never accept because he knows the lay down laws in the palace and it implications

2) the prince will need the seven high chiefs to be in agreement

3) the prince will need all other representatives of all deity in Benin to come to agreement

So how is that possible ?

Until fools arguing blindly understand this the better for them

"YES" the governor can suspend the Oba from performing a state function but not to his people. Oba ovoranmwen was Oba even in calabar

The successful deposition of the Oba of Benin will require you to kill him
