Blood group. It's the chemical content or composition of your blood. And it's categorized in 3 main groups, A, B and O. We also have AB which is a rare type.
To get the real composition we add a prefix sign + and - (positive and negative) this is also known as your Rh factor. Or Rhesus factor which is very essential when choosing a partner. A+ cannot Marry A- or O- if the consider child bearing and vice versa. But they can marry and bear children if they are of the same Rh. Example A+ can have a child with A+, O+, then A- can have a child with A- and O-.. also note that you can only receive blood from the same group, except for O which is termed as a universal donor. O can only receive from O. A can receive from O, But O cannot receive from A.

While Genotype is the genetic makeup of your hemoglobin, or your red blood cells which is the cell responsible for carrying oxygen in your blood.
It is characterized by the shape of your red blood cells when viewed under the microscope. We have 3 types AA, AS and SS.
A normal red blood cell is full moon shaped, so if your red blood cells are shaped like full moon you are AA.
Then abnormal red blood cells are shaped like half moon. They are termed sickled red blood cells, or sickled cell for short. So if your red blood cells are shaped half moon it is SS.

How is it the business of the young doctor who’s also affected by the corruption, on the ward?

True, but it also depends on the medication being prescribed.

All hospital pharmacies in theory are supposed to have the drugs that appear on the WHO essential drug list. Sometimes, the drug needed is not available on the list, so the hospital may not have it, and it has to be bought outside.

(A relative of mine is on certain drugs to manage her condition. One of the drugs is so rare that she has an arrangement with a pharmacist who has access to supplies of the drug from oversease to get it. You cannot get that particular drug for sale easily in any pharmacy in Nigeria because the condition it treats is not that common).

Also, high density hospitals like the teaching hospital may run out of drugs from time to time....meaning that the Procurement department has to order for replacement and that may take some time.(The supplier may not have the drug available at that time, so he or she may have to order from either Lagos or oversease, and that takes time). Sometimes if the patient is rich enough, they may quickly buy it privately...but that depends if the private pharamcy too has the drugs.

Finally some doctors have their prefered brand of drug. I once knew a doctor who did not use any brand of diazepam except Swiss pharma branded diazepam. NO, Swiss pharma was not paying her to promote their drugs...she just felt that the brand performed better than other brands of diazepam. Meanwhile, the hospital where she worked had lots of diazepam...not just Swiss pharma branded.

I know a doctor who was merciful to patients who could not pay. He had to close his clinic in one year, and go back to the oversease he came from because he could no longer have enough cash to run his clinic effectively

I tried responding to that post you quoted, but was lost for words.

That’s one of the reasons a good number of private hospitals refer seemingly complicated cases to government hospitals, because after exhausting all your resources, time to pay bill; the doctor and nurses become devils!
