My cousin had a similar experience
His second son has a knack for hiding in very hideous places. I caught him climbing into their freezer. I shouted and the mom came drag him out. He was just 3years then. He was fond of hiding in cupboards and wardrobes.
He is a grown boy now.

Hmm this guy you sure knows how to show arrogance. I didn't delete your number and there is no gain in lying. The way you show arrogance and are very uncouth with people just because we share interest in ordinary cucumber is amazing. I do not have to do the farming to be very successful in Cucumber business. I can market and do preservation. People are talking to me everyday. However, there was something I read in one of your mouth-offs that caught my interest that's why I asked for your miserable number. I can see the help and encouragement you give prospective newbies. I have never been this insulted online for any reason. It wasn't money from cucumber that we used to buy the expansive lands. I just want to delve into planting these stuff to help provide food for NIGERIANS AND SATISFY MY INTEREST IN NUTURING LIFE. I don't live off cucumber or farming. It is my hobby but I want to step it up. I had successful runs in the past on small scale which I share to friends and consume the rest, now I wanted to take it a notch higher. The challenge I had was the guys working for me were novices and wouldn't take instructions and the guy who was supposed to mentor me in large scale exposures, just as you were asked to help, deceived me and ran away with the money paid for several things. I closed down the farm due to security issues attached to the villagers I used as workers. There were threat of kidnapping me.and the sluggishness of my workers too. Today the farm is back and is doing well too. I have reduced cost and its working well reasonably. There were other areas I wanted to partner with you and see how we can work symbiotically. I'm talking of exposures running in excess of $m. However since your number is gold keep it for yourself I don't think I will ever need it or need you for anything. You are such a flippant and arrogant fellow abusing and insulting people all over the network. I follow some of your posts and I really wonder if you are that busy to have the time to respond with insults and abuses to almost everyone you have discussed with. No one is ever good enough for you. your best part is to pick faults and run others down just because you have some rudimentary idea of farming. If I want anything from you I KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO GET IT. Please DO NOT respond otherwise I will report you to the MODs. Just leave my Thread and let ME be. Cheap arrogance lipsrsealed sad angry angry angry

I have left the farm. I only asssited my friend there. I thought you are in the midst of professionals now. Do you want me to tell you the honest truth, I do not give my number out easily. Also, when I give it out, anyone who deleted me will have to live with it like that. I dont delete people like that cos I learned how to tame my temper more and more daily. I remember our chat very well and it is still on my phone. You deleted it, not that you lost it. And that is it.

Please, leave it and move on. Whatever, I can do, I will do it here for you. Just post the pictures of your farm. When I am online, I will make comments.

I receive mails daily the number of people my posts have helped. I can count up to 200 people who have ordered drip directly from China, US, India (more from china) with the help of my post on drip irrigation and set up. I explained all that is needed there.

I do not need anyone to train under me. Presently, I have 10 people undergoing free online training. I call it "Do it yourself". All from nairaland. Anyway, the training is the only one I will do this year. They bought seeds and nutrients themselves. I just felt like doing good.

All I hope is that those 10 people will develop the heart of humanitarianism, and not turn to "over billing consultants". I do not do more than I can chew. Those 10 only for this year. Maybe next year I will take more. The quality they get and how they can interprete the procedures are what will make them become excellent farmers.

You need to learn it well. It is not when you open 10 plots or go inside forest "Makibamtolo" one becomes a good farmer. Just using 10 sacks at home, that is enough. Then, go to farm and fimd out the challenges of farmers. I have listed many out. You cannot do beds yourself. Can you? So, you do not need to learn it. Outsource it. The only skill required is how to supervise it. Thats all. And mere reading how it is done can give you idea what you need to ask laborers do for you.

Make sure you finish installing bamboos, and other staking materials before you sow seeds.

There are modern tech one can use to reduce the tedious labor on cucumber farms. And there are steps one needs to take. If done well, one will have good yield. Staking is one. Manual training of crops to lines stressed the plants. Almost everyone uses manual style in Nigeria but when I tell what to do, most cannot afford it. But the result is super and the long term cost of production is so low.

Cucumber is money now in South West, South East and South South. Why? Cucumber and other vegetable kings from the north are keeping it cool now. They are boucing back.in November. Get yourself to the farm, make some cash now. Enter your shell in November and let the big boys operate then.

I could have suggested people coming together to farm but I cannot do that. Partnership or group.work always fail in Nigeria. So, do it yourself.

Deep inside me I feel your pain. I have worked in different parts of Nigeria. I closed one of my farms earlier this month myself. It feels not so good. It is not over.

Just that you are in PH...hmmm. I would have gladly invited you to a colleague's farm in Ogun State to use up to an acre. I know I can make my friend release one acre or more. Expenses will be reduced because water source is a clean river. But I always work with drip irrigation and I can welcome anyone who is willing to fix the farm like a modern farmer. You learn how to reduce cost of production, how to handle farm workers (they are parasites, where to pick up farm inputs, etc.) First trial might be tough, but with second attempt using good workers, one will easily breakthrough. Learn + Make Profit.

What can I say? I pray you recover your loss. AMEN!

Please help!!! I bought a brand new Firman Eco 8900ES Generator 2 weeks ago. Right from the first night we turned it on I noticed irregular sound as if it's gonna shut down. In the morning I saw soot at the exhaust. I have not used it since then except this evening and it started and shut Down after a while. It has started again but the smoke is blackish and it is still making the zigzag sound and very loud. What do I do?
Return it to the sellers or invite a mechanic?. The receipt when I checked for warranty had none and actually said "no guarantee" . I just saw it now as I went to pick the number of the big reputable shop in Port Harcourt

LaudableXX:
You forgot to add that the largest gas processing plant in Nigeria is situated within Akwa Ibom state. The $600million Uquo gas processing facility, supplies gas to the IPP plants in Calabar and other places, yet Udom cannot tap into this to construct an IPP plant for the Ibom Specialist Hospital, (and its' environs) which would have supplied stable electricity to the hospital, and revived one of the centres that could provide the public with medical care, in the state.

I have decided to take a break from Nairaland for some few months so I can concentrate on the projects at hand, and so I can assist the people I have now. Therefore, I will not update here again for some months until I finish this year dry season farming which ends in June/July or August. Maybe, can just drop few posts on rare occasions.

When I return, I intend to open two threads.

1. Economic values and introduction to technical strategy of vegetable production using cucumber, okra and tomatoes as case studies.

2. Relationship between Farmers and Investors with the aim to achieve profit in vegetable production based on my year 2017 - 2018 experience using minimum of 2 scenarios from my diary.

Number 1 will be some kind of technical analysis which I know many consultants will not like out here. Bad market for them. While number 2 will be revealing. How 2017 was a lovely and at the same time a terrible year for me, and what I made up my mind to do. Then, how I do it which is what I am doing presently. Many people hurt me too much last year but in all, there are still very nice people who are still holding on to me and are very supportive. It may not be wise to be too good to people afterall. This was my conclusion for 2017, but I thank God that He had ministered to me to start updating nairaland before the end of 2017; else, I do not think i will be posting here about vegetable farming.

Please, send me email if you have anything to ask or tell me. If i find your content impressive, I will respond.

Blessings!

This fluentinfor of a man you amaze me in many ways. You are so adamant and compassionate. I can see you feel my loss. You are such complex being. Flogging on one hand and soothing with compassion with the other hand. I wouldn't be able to come over to Ogun State to do farming for now.. . All the same I appreciate the gesture. I already have 20 hectres in Ogbomosho where they are doing plantain and cashew trees for me. I appreciate your concern for me and will also request you gently guide me. I will break even and failure has never been in my dictionary. So the irrigation story we were discussing will continue and we can assimilate the required parts for a seamless take off.

Hmmmm. Lots of activities here. Thanks all for your inputs. I'm considering all options. God will see us through. I know where my challenges lies. We are working round it. Though we appreciate help we will not accept abuses and sarcastic posturing. I opened this thread in humility and sought help respectfully from friends and mentors. The private discussion with a friend I believe maturity demands be kept private. No one has monopoly of knowledge as God will always raise his army. I'm not being haughty or arrogant. I do not like the picture flentifor is painting of my personality. He was asking about measurements and he was sounding as he was addressing a stark illiterate. I then told him I'm an Engineer to let him knowI have some rudimentary knowledge about dimensions. That was private chats on whatsaap. To bring those chats here to disrespect my person and my profession because of ordinary cucumber farm is very debasing and discouteous. If he had asked for money to mentor me it's his right , I would have weighed the options and agreed or rejected.
Coming to a public thread like this to make me think my decisions to seek help or discuss my challenges is foolish is most hurting. So many have made worse decisions and have walked away with their ignorance and no room for other to learn from.
If they want to mentor or teach , they should choose appropriate and encouraging words. For me farming is good and has been in me all my life and serves as hobby and past time. This does not mean I should throw away good money or waste precious time on wrong methods or foolish directions. I have weighed most of the suggestions here and planning to implement the ones that have been risked as being certain of yield ing positive results. Realise that every decision takes time ,money , knowledge and experienced people to implement otherwise it's going to be a ring of mediocritic mistakes.
That said. All discussions will happen here. All advice given needs knowledge and experience to implement them successfully.
We are sure so many in my shoes are learning from advice and solutions proferred by experts. They will not make my mistakes or if they have they will retreat and change their ways. I don't mind being called the stubborn arrogant guy. I don't mind being the one you hang all your criticism on and say "that's the bad guy".
I thank all who have advised me responsibly. God will continue to bless you. God will continue to bless our effort.
I dont fail. I have never failed. What others call failure, for me has always been a school.

I'm not stubborn. WI'll you be my mentor ? At least you are less harsh and not sarcastic.

I said in my earlier posts that I started with a mentor who bought the land for me and helped with the initial setup. the guy ran away before we could evrn plant a seed. je had issues with his landlord in the community.
