Godsspeed: . Ok, thanks a million! But if there's anything like that, d mix up might hav been frm them, cos in the whole of the application process, there's no place for selection of continent or region, if there were, a region starting with 'A' cldnt have been next to one with 'O'. All d same, I wil just keep waiting for I believe that the Almighty knows the best, cos He rules over the affairs of men! And I really appreciate ur idea too! #my tot also# mayb d time I played it also contributed, cos it was about a day or two b4 d deadline.
Then a word for Obatide and others whose interviews are around d corner, 'He didn't select u frm among millions just to leave u now, He completes all that He started. Cheers as u smile back 2 testify here!
@Godsspeed: your faith is encouraging! God bless you. but i am also thinking aloud.....why dont you do a mail to KCC enquiring about the mixup? surely they should be able to tell you the true state of things. i dont think the time you played has anything to do with it because i played ours like an hour to deadline....well, like you both have said.. it's also my thots!!

okeymen: Ok so this is how it goes... Obatide wakes me up at 4am to prepare, we dilly dally and lazy around till 6am before we leave the house and get there before 6.30am just as they started calling people so we we joined the queue and were last at the time and I said 'oh good so we can sit back and watch other interviews and have more to put on nairaland' but that was not to be. There was a couple that almost didn't show up with anything and said they just got a call to come that day. Well u know they can't be part of this forum so be grateful u are. We were just a few minutes on the line when the kids started complaining they wanted to sit down cos we had done so much the day before on quadbikes, jetskies and go karts (men Lag na fun place sha) so I cld not blame them. By the time we collected our blue tags to cross the road to the embassy proper, my son asked if we had finished cheesy.
The only person that wasn't so nice there was the lady we paid the $330 to. It was like nothing I had imagined. We were called to submit our documents and I saw the forms I had sent to KCC earlier right there. We ended up submitting 3 sets of passports instead of the 2 others are asked for but they returned all the ones we submitted to KCC. Please be sure u have up to 6 months validity before ur passport expires or u may have issues.
The kids and I were all asleep in the hall when our number showed...we didn't even know the interviews had started cos it turns out we were the first. When we did, we packed our stuff, carried the kids and staggered to window 16, where we met the famous pretty black american lady and after the oath and finger prints

Co: so u played the lottery urself
Me: yes I did
Co: highest bla bla
Me: bsc
Co: where?
Me: UI
Co: oh I love that school
Me: really? How nice

Glory to God in the highest and thanks to my friends on nairaland who will commit their personal resources to ensure we all come out successful. So despite making a mistake as to when we got married (of course we corrected it at once) and looking sleepy and tired, God stood up for us!
Congratulations my brother and family! This is the Lord's doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I am sooooo happy for you and ur family. Please take it very easy when you are driving

westcodes: First off, what is your CN? Put in mind there were 35% more selectees this year than previous years so that can affect the bulletin adversely. On the other hand, according to the figures released, only about 45% of selectees actually proceed with processing after selection, majority don't even check to see if they were selected and some just decide not to take it up. In all previous DV, there hasn't been any instance where all 50k visas were issued, let's all just chin up and keep the faith. We've had 5 months bulletin so far this fisical year, still a long ways to go.
@Westcodes....these facts are very comforting....trust on me, whatever your source is, you are a blessing to this house. Cheers man

Please call yourself by name and give yourself some very hard counsels....now that the visa lottery thing is over, WHAT NEXT? Darhmee: hey guys.. just a little update.. we we called from the embassy to come drop a copy of our marriage cert.. so I went 2 do d drop off and the pickup of our originals and we were told to com for d visa nxt thursday.. I met some other people who were doing drop offs too and also, people who were being interviewed.

plenty visas were approved to my face and just 1 was denied by that beautiful black american chic.. d guy won a dv lotery.. when he got to the window, he had issues with his place of birth, d one in his initial application is diff from the one he filled in d form, so he explaind that it was a mistake and the lady overlooked, then d lady decided to ask him about his edu qualification, he said he just gained admission to a uni so d lady decided to ask him what econs, commerce, opportunity cost is but he didnt answer well, so she asked what he was doing befor gaining admission and he he has searchin for a job and playing football.. his visa wasnt approved anyway..

pls if applying as single, read ur books well, they believe ur still young and so, ur brain shld be sharp like that..

may God help us all and may He bless this forum
cheers!
@Darhmee.....thanks so much for this update. Congratz once again for your visas. please house, this is to all of us o......LET US PREPARE AND DOT ALL OUR Is AND CROSS ALL OUR Ts. may God help us all.

okeymen: Hello all,

congrats to those that have had successfull interviews. infact, this forum is so full of interviews i almost feel like i am dragging people back by talking about medicals and police clearance which i did on monday this week. well sha, pardon me for the post cos it might help someone

i drove all the way from port harcourt to lagos the sunday before and was suprised at how good the roads are. anyway, my first instinct was to go and have a look at the hospitals so as to decide which to use. my first port of call was children's practice and i was surprised to get to something called a hospital only to be told that the dont open on sundays. well i wasnt allowed to put down my name either but was adviced to come around 6am to be sure i was attended to early even though the hospital opens at 8am. now imagine doing this with a family of 4! anyway, i managed to get someone very close to do that for me for a token 1k so that i could then show up at my convenince the following day.

it wasnt necessary for me to go see the other hospital cos this was the closest to alagbon where i was to go to later for my police clearance. i got there 8am, was given a teller to go and pay the consulation fees (12K for adults and 7k for children) and forms to sign authorising the hospital to use our information and to disclose the findings to the embassy. a little after nine o'clock, we were called in to have our blood samples taken and then went for X-ray (adults only). following the xray, we were called in to see the doctor were asked a few questions and then based on our immunization records, were sent for immunisation. all this took the greater part of 3 hours and so by 12ish, we were thru and the headed off to alagbon. let me just say that if you have records for immunisation, take them along with 2 copies, especially for kids. they will have to enter them in their recods and list whatever is required (based on age and existing records). then be ready to take a series of injections which may leave you feeling a lot of pain or even slightly ill. my older kid got two inections and cried so much that the younger one started crying even before it got to her turn. hers was 3 injections and she slept the rest of the day cos they knocked her out. also the consultation fee here must be paid to the bank but the immunization fees (which is often the bigger money) can be paid by POS.

all this while, i was in contact with obatide and femmyshow2005, two of my nairaland friends who i do not know in person. however, i had the honour and priviledge of meeting femmyshow2005 in person and i must say, he is a really nice guy wink . he actually came out of his office to meet with me and we even took pictures together.

So, at 1pm, i show up with my family at alagbon for my police clearance. there is a gun totting policeman at the gate who asks me what i want. i feared i had driven into the lions den becasue in port harcourt where i come from, you dont want to be found loitering around places like the state CID. anyway i tell him what i want and he says i should follow a man wearing a police id card and the guy walks ahead and asks me to park right inside the compound under the shed of the trees where the sun wont disturb my kids in the car. i notice on the wall that the parking space was reserved for O/C something/something and i thought to myself how different lagos is from port harcourt. in ph, you cant drive up to the gate, the whole area is barricaded and you must drop all communications gadgets at the reception before you are allowed in. for those that read my earlier post about that visit, you will recall that i said the place was 100% free of touts. well, here i was sitting down in front of the asp gisting happily with him, my car parked in O/C something/something's space pinging with obatide who did not want me to be exploited (God bless him) and in no time at all, it was out.

one thing struck me though, the police men there consider the american embassy guys as irritating people . they always come to verify the records and even when they waste their time to make them leave in frustration they just sit there patiently until whenever they are attended to. i strongly feel that these are nigerians that work for the embassy and it is good to know that we have people like that. i also whish that other government prastatals can borrow a leaf from the NPF to free their offices of touts. especially immigrations and customs.

on a final note, whatever good feelings we had during the medicals were eroded when my wife went back to get the results because she was kept there for another 3 hours. shame on them. besides, we were refused a copy of the results which i think is wrong because we have a right to our own health records and i strongly believe it was also stated in the document we signed. i will take it up with them.
@Okeymen: thank God for journey mercies o. you are welcome.....i wish you God's favour in all the phases of this breakthrough IJN - Amen.

TravelRe: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by ItyRoyal(m): 7:49pm On Dec 11, 2013
mcro: Honestly, I don’t know where to start. Having played the lottery thing as a single for about 3 times without success, I was no longer motivated to try it. But my wife was unrelenting. She nagged and cajoled and entreated me and I finally capitulated but with a proviso: she must foot the bills, my transport fares inclusive. Off we went on circa Oct 28, 2012, just a few days to the deadline of the application. I then forgot all about it.
On May 1, my wife called me to inform me that I have won the visa lottery for 2014. It was like a dream. I checked by myself and confirmed it. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Travelling abroad to further my education has always been my desire, but the financial rigours involved coupled with the inherent uncertainty in granting of the visa were most discouraging. And here is an opportunity, not only to study but also to live and raise a family, God is indeed the Lord that answereth by fire. May the Lord continue to bless our women. I owe the visas to my wife.
To cut the long story short, we set out by 6:30 am to meet an appointment for 10am. Traffic wasn’t that terrible and we still had time to settle down despite having hitches about locating the car park.
We were ushered in by 9:30 am. All the security checks were observed and the payment was made. I witnessed @dahunsiolajide predicament of not having enough dollar to make his payment and I was happy when a dude bailed him out.
Window 16 used to be a dreaded window for the DV 2013 Winners with a much dreaded white woman giving people the scare of their lives with more denials than all other COs combined. But the window is now an oasis and was occupied by an elderly white man who was ‘dishing out’ the visas like ‘pure water’. May God bless him.
By the powers of prayer, after a protracted wait our number finally bleeped at Window 16. Oath-taking and fingerprinting done, the interview itself was less than 2 minutes. Here we go.
co: (looking at our baby) how old is she?
Me: sorry, it’s a he not a she.
co: (looking at the baby’s form in his hand) oh sorry, I didn’t see the second name. so how old is he?
we: three months and twenty days.
Co: what is ur highest level of education.
Me: MSc in xxxxxxx.
Co: (looking at my form in his hands) in xxxxxx yyyyyyy University.
Me: yes and that was where I had my first degree too.
Co: for how long have u known your wife?
Me: for nine years.
Co: when did you propose marriage to her.
Me: last year January during her birthday.
Co: why did it take u dt long?
Me: we were both undergraduate when we first met. It was when I was when I started working we now thought of marriage.
(All the while, he was holding two sheets of paper and now stretching them forth)
Co: ok. You will go to this address….. (for my mind I thought he wanted to say ‘to continue the interview’)
Co: (continue) there, you will pick your visas which will be ready by next week.
(If he had not added that somebody could collect the visa on our behalf I would have assumed I did not hear him well).
Co: congratulations and welcome to America.
We: thank you and God bless you.
My wife and my baby were even by my side throughout the interview. The Co did not tell her to go and sit down in order to interview me alone.
LESSON LEARNT.
1. It is not of him that wills, but of God that shows mercy. Having seen what many are doing to travel abroad by all means and having considered that I never made any spirited effort to consider travelling seriously despite that being my desire, then I have come to the conclusion that only what He wills matter, not my will.
2. By patience possess your soul. I was almost worry when I did not see my 2nl having sent my forms since early June and the receipt acknowledge on June 11. I was current in October but did not receive my 2nl until 3rd week of Oct. So to those waiting for 2nl, it will come. No one on DV 2013 thread was not called for his interview. Urs will not be an exception.
3. Preparation. Opportunity always favours the man who is prepared. Those waiting for their interview should start by reading this thread from the beginning. I started to read DV 2013 when it was around 500 posts. But I later had to go back to the beginning. I regretted I didn’t start that earlier. At least DHL wouldn’t have ‘chopped’ my money. So please if you still have the time, read some of the posts in DV 2013 thread too. You will be surprised at the guru that lies within you.
4. Prayer. The efficacy of prayer cannot be overemphasized. If there was one thing that made my interview very simple, I believed it was prayer. Since I got to know I won in May, I have set aside a day in the week to fast and pray for favour and success in the interview. Despite my deep and intense preparation for academic questions across all levels and marital-based interview, God took all the glory; no question from my preparation was asked.
Finally never stop believing. Your own miracle is on the way.
My special appreciation goes to Obatide, Madu77, G2Glory, kevwe flex, seubis, femishow, ItyRoyal and all others that have been contributing on this thread. May you never lose your own reward.
Also of the DV 2013 thread, my appreciation goes to Temmytanny, Adesojiaderemi, Jejelady, Roodboy, Gentiger, Genlion, Brightmon, Godhelpmeoooo, Leripa, obamaobama, Bussyme, Kemzone 2003, and a host of others too numerous to mention, you guys are the bomb. You won the visa for me a long time ago. May God continue to bless you in the White man’s land.
Addendum:
I am really sorry for this long epistle, I cannot just keep the joy to myself anymore. For as many that are yet to go for their interview, you will experience this joy that fills my heart and soul. Thank you and God bless.
Hmm.....my dear brother Mcro....your story is deeply touching! All glory to the Most High God who flagrantly displayed His power over your desire....hear me brother, you will not only travel to the USA, you will also land in safety, you will find favour with men/women you knew not...that land shall not rebell against you....rather it shall vomit unto you the greatness and the glory thereof IJN - Amen.

[quote author=G2Glory]My brother, sorry for the mix-up. It was that rate when i did mine. Like other forumities mentioned that they have fixed or stable exchange rate at the embassy. I think it make more sense to do it at the embassy with the naira

@G2Glory: thanks for the clarification. It makes a lot of sense to go with naira as you have advised...but we should also be monitoring the forex market to know when it will be cheaper to go with our own dollars. Oce again thanx brother.
TravelRe: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by ItyRoyal(m): 2:24pm On Dec 11, 2013
G2Glory: Congratulations. Fellow forumities please take a lesson from his own.

I passionately want to beg you ALL to please ensure you verify/validate the US dollar from the Aboki at the bank, so as to avoid been manipulated with fake ones. Going with US dollar saves you the stress of exchange rate flunctuation & it's handful - i.e easy to move around with.

If you are going with US dollar, do not accept any dollar earlier than 2006. I wish you all the best in your forthcoming interview
@G2Glory/Obatide: i'm confused about something....currently exchange rate is at about N172 to a dollar are you saying that if one goes with naira their exchange rate is still at N165 to a dollar or does it fluctuate according to market forceshuh
TravelRe: DV 2014 Winners Meet Here by ItyRoyal(m): 2:14pm On Dec 11, 2013
Obatide: Thanking God for successful interviews thus far as I say a big congratulations to @bukiemma, @mcro, @dahunsiolajide and other guests, God will perfect the rest.
@Darmhe, how far about your package? hope those things you forget at interview are stapled along with your brown envelope?
@ItyRoyal, thanks so much for the piece.
@All, I want to re-echo that the embassy accept both denominations of Naira and Dollar for processing fee, their exchange rate is 165 Naira to $1, the choice is yours if you can get dollars cheaper, otherwise, $330 = 54,500 Naira.
also @All, expecially people who are eagerly waiting to be current, since no winner can influence it, then put your mind at rest to prepare your documents and gather more money, remember you have maximum of 6months to travel after you visa has been printed.
Note that thinking of depending on family memeber/Host over there might not work 100%, so the funds you travel with, will give you certain freedom , so dont give yourself high BP over slow pase of bulletin, Its my prayer that God will meet all our finacial needs to sustain our successes.
@Obatide: Amen to that prayer bro....@all....i came across a write up today and i published it on my facebook Status Message because it really ministered to me considering the circumstances of the bulletin.....it says IF GOD BRINGS YOU INTO IT, HE WILL BRING YOU THROUGH IT!!!! so please people....RELAX AND TRUST GOD FOR ALL THINGS!!!

So i dashed to the embassy since my office in VI and i have moved my family to a nearby hotel , meet only the security and ask him the denomination i can pay with but the security guy said this is Nigeria and it should be in naira so I left , on getting back to hotel my wife said we should contact a family friend in Texas who just won and left last year , so they advice that we should go with dollar because their conversion rate will be in black market rate and that is 172 to a dollar . I called aboki and change all the money to $ and all i need is 1320, for family of 4 and i got 1300 for abok he does not have $20 cause its always scarce . so i decided to go for interview that i will balance the $20 with naira denomination .
At the consulate office where am to pay the cashier object that i cannot pay with both denomination but One . Either naira or dollar not both I pleaded and pleaded but she told me they are not her money and there is nothing she could do than for me to pay for 3 and comeback to pay for 1 later , and i know our visa may not be granted since the payment is not completed . so i started looking around in the office there and meet security but no luck . To God be the Glory , one guy came to pay and he pays in Dollar, i approach him and he said i gave her dollars and she is meant to give me change in Dollar if she give me my change in dollar i will sell you 20 but if she gives naira am sorry because i am press for time . so i pray that God should help me because the logistics of Coming back to complete the visa process and you may not have the same prefference of the first appearance . so the-same lady came and give the guy $20 and he sold it dollar to me that is how i am able to complete the payment and i waited for the interview which only lasted for 2mins and i was give the the noble 2 papers for my pickup and USIC

to God be the Glory if that guy was not there at that time , .......
hmmm......my brother, i am truly happy for you o....that was a favour from heaven. congratulations brother...more favour all the way

phatzyka: We are all eager to get our interview date. But we should also know that we didn't get selected by our making. If at all there is delay, it might be for us to save enough cash and get prepared for the D day. Cheers all.
@phatzyka: Flesh and Blood did not speak through you o!!! thanks for such powerful and inspired word, truth is that the God that allocated our case number to us knows exactly when he wants us to be current. hundreds of millions of people applied but we were chosen.....my believe....? we will all be current at God's ordained time when all things will work for our favour.....and like my great friend Obatide said.....let us use this time and gather in all the documents and possibly change our naira to dollars in preparation to when we'll be current. May God help us all. cheers all
