Government to force market prices to drop?
Yes. Consumer protection. Go and check the huge profit dangote cement made in Nigeria vs other countries he operated. Naira strengthen by almost 15% from last year yet dangote and other companies where the cost of entry is high failed to reduce their price. They are just posting humongous profit quarter after quarter

My village is in Ogun State, we have some Chinese manufacturing plants and businesses in the village, but in the last 2 years all of them have expanded their capacities and new businesses sprang up. They are seeing what majority of us are not seeing.

And the businesses they are into are so boring, I guess there must be huge profits in those boring businesses.

Just like NGX banking sector is for predictable dividends except for Access Bank that disappointed, the money making businesses on NGX are doing boring businesses and they are making big return on equity and high net profit margin
What are some of these boring businesses?

So in all of this, is AccessCorp a good buy or nah?
Wait for the panic selling and buy at 20-22.

I sold all my units after the news of the purchase of London property by the Ceo and bought Dang cement at 510. I am very happy with that impulsive decision I made.

Ok, I think batteries are the biggest challenge. Apart from the vehicles themselves, you don’t really need much infrastructure, especially in countries like Nigeria that don’t already have extensive systems in place. Many homes today run entirely on solar power. Yes, it’s expensive, but that cost mostly comes from the batteries. Imagine if batteries became dirt cheap, I’d bet that more than half of Nigeria would be powered by solar energy.

Currently, most EVs run about 300 to 400 miles on a single charge. With cheap and fast-charging batteries, your only limitation would be the number of solar panels you can connect. By my calculation, one full day of solar charging could give you over a week of city commuting. If you charge intermittently, you could practically drive for free. I’ve read about battery swap systems, like how we used to exchange gas cylinders, so you could travel from town A to B, swap your battery, and continue your journey.

Businesses that charge batteries with solar will spring up everywhere, trust our entrepreneurial spirit. I’m telling you, the only real issue is the cost and capacity of these batteries, and once those improve, we’re good to go.

Regarding Dangote Refinery, nobody sees it all, not even me or you. Technological shifts often happen suddenly and unpredictably. A few years ago, no one could have predicted AI would advance this far this fast. I’m not arguing to win; I’m just saying it’s very likely that when the technology breaks out, developing countries might actually be the ones to adopt it fastest. It all comes down to economics, people will always choose the cheaper alternative over patriotism or sentiment.
You are right. No no sees it all. I agree once the price of batteries dropped to half the current prices the adoption would be fast and price pressure is more powerful than any any regulations or habits.

It might even be advantage to developing countries like Nigeria since we don't have any existing infrastructure to replace 😅.

We will just jumped straight into distributed solar charging

No, I don’t think so. Lithium isn’t the only viable substance for making batteries. We have sodium in abundance, and scientists are working to use it as a replacement for lithium, they’re not there yet, but they’re close. There are also other elements and technologies being developed that could serve the same purpose.

I don’t know how old you are, but let me give you a few historical examples. Kodak, in the 1980s and early 1990s, was what Samsung or Apple is today, a market leader in photography, especially in film. When digital photography was being researched and tested, Kodak dismissed it, believing it would never work. They ignored diversification and failed to invest in the new technology. Eventually, the Kodak empire was destroyed by digital cameras and the rise of digital images.

There are many other examples like that, Blockbuster vs. Netflix, Nokia/BlackBerry vs. Android. Even the small devices we hold in our hands today, which we call phones, were once unimaginable. Computers in the 1970s were so large that only institutions could afford them. Today, each of us carries a mobile computer. Change is constant.
You’re right that change is constant, but transition speed varies depending on infrastructure and global equity.

Unlike phone or AI that transition happen very fast, switching to EV cars require huge physical investment in infrastructure--power grids, roads raw material etc.

So if developed countries have such resources in abundance, developing countries are far behind and don't have capital to support EV infrastructure overnight. Nigeria is still producing less than 5000MW with incessant national grid collapse.
I don't think Petroleum cars will die. But the usage will shrink in developed countries while it lingers in developing countries for a very long time.

Alhaji would not have built 25bn refinery with that existential threat.

I think it’s more about making the most of the years we have left. I’ve said it before, petrol as the sole fuel for cars, trucks, and buses is gradually being phased out. Many countries have already set dates to ban fossil fuel–powered vehicles, some within the next 20 to 30 years, and even earlier in a few cases. Do you know that Ethiopia has already banned the importation of fuel-powered buses because of its new large-capacity hydro power plant?

Refining profit margins will take a hit in the coming years; plastics and other by-products will likely become the main revenue drivers. Just my opinion, though. I’ll remind you in the next 10 to 20 years, maybe in this thread, maybe somewhere else. Just take care of yourself till then. grin grin grin
Electric cars will continue to exist hand in hand with fuel cars for a very long time.

I don't see electric cars stopping production of Petroleum cars in the next 50 years sef.

Electric cars need lithium and rare earth metals which are very limited.

For context, to electrify all cars by 2050 the world would need more lithium than the currently known reserve!

Even in rich countries long journeys are more realistic with petrol cars because charging stations are not available in rural areas.

We respect you bro. This is the 100th time you are calling for altcoin yet it has not materialise.

Anyone that heeds to your erratic Altcoins calls and bought anytime you shill altcoin must have lose at least 50% of his portfolio.

If there's anything that even the dumbest of us should learn this season is that altcoin are never good for holding, it is only good for short time trade, even at that no one should risk more than 10% of his portfolios in Altcoins.

With the cycle likely in its final days and risk of inflation coming back, it is ridiculous to be selling people hopium that they will have massive gain in altcoins.

People already got burnt several times in Altcoins, so retail might not come back in drove to pump our bag like 2021

Lol old story. Nothing will happen. The recently signed tax reform bill and Ncs act won't be repealaede. Customs do not even collect cost of collection from federation account again. They charge 4% fob which they use to run the service.

The new Tax reform bill stipulated 5% as cost collection. I don't think that will be repeal also.

It may still not make any difference in this country. Fighting corruption has more to do with respect for rule of law, judicial processes and system, citizen's level of education, awareness, poverty levels, unity of purpose, social security and empowerment etc.
One still cannot do jack if a governor or govt official embezzles money so far the current systems remain the same, even if one pays 30% tax or CGT.
Well, that's catastrophic waiting to happen then. There's nothing will stop these guys from stealing with the current structure.

Honestly, we are really bleeped in this country

The CGT does not make sense, irrespective of this explanation by Taiwo Oyedele.
For example, what about unemployed/unengaged persons who make profits of say N200m-N1billion in the NGX? What CGT rate would applied to them?
Again how would activity in the capital market be deepened if high net-worth individuals (who provide most of the liquidity) are made to pay CGT of about 25%
He's deluded. I don't know why he can't see reason that the 25% cgt is counterproductive to the growth of ngx

I’ve been playing with some numbers, and something struck me, the stock market actually outperforms bonds, even those 20% interest rates that some people joyfully grabbed earlier this year, such as the Sukuk bonds with about a 10-year tenure. Don’t get me wrong, if you don’t have the time to fundamentally value stocks or you prefer risk-free, steady income, bonds are great. But they don’t beat stocks, especially if you have a diversified portfolio to hedge against individual stock risks.

Let’s use CAGR, the Compound Annual Growth Rate, which represents the compounded return you’d get if growth were smoothed over the time period. From 2012 to date (up to Tuesday; I haven’t incorporated the days after Independence Day, but that doesn’t change much), the All-Share Index (ASI) delivered a 14.67% CAGR annually. Zenith Bank returned 13.6%, and DangCem about 13.38%.

By comparison, a bond that paid 20% interest annually over that same 2012–2025 period would have yielded around 10% CAGR each year across those 14 years, assuming you didn’t reinvest the interest (just as I didn’t account for stock dividends, splits, etc.).

The ability to monitor and play the long game in the stock market ultimately beats bonds when it comes to long-term wealth creation.
I realised that after holding useless crypto project from 2023 to date.

After studying that chats for some hours, I realised I'd have been in better position if I just invested In s&p 500 index.

The truth is most people are just better off investing in the index fund.

FIRS will carry out a SUBSTANCE OVER FORM (Beneficial Ownership test)

in this case you have to ensure that funding the accounts were not from you. If you send money to their account before they transferred it to the brokerage account, then it will be tracked.

Also make sure that the proceeds from sales do not end up in your account. If they sell and the money goes to your account through their account, then you are the beneficiary.

Unless you have to allow them use the proceeds or gains that they cash out to solve their personal problems without your interventions.

these tax guys are prepared on paper but whether they are physical and technically prepared is what i doubt strongly
very easy. buy crypto or dollars from their account and transfer to you. you cash out and fund your account or stash dollars
