The Afenifere leader said the APC government has continued to mislead Nigerians through propaganda while failing to deliver on basic governance and security. The leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Oba Oladipo Olaitan, has attacked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of thriving on deceit, manipulation, and deliberate concealment of truth to hold on to power. Olaitan made the remarks on Tuesday morning while speaking on Sunrise Daily, a Channels Television programme monitored by SaharaReporters. The Afenifere leader said the APC government has continued to mislead Nigerians through propaganda while failing to deliver on basic governance and security. “Well, APC is good at what they know how to do — deceive people, manipulate people, conceal issues. That’s their job; they know how to do it,” Oba Olaitan said. He challenged Nigerians to reflect on their personal safety and the state of insecurity ravaging the country, asking pointedly whether citizens still felt safe returning home after work. “Do you feel safe where you are now? Going back home after work, do you feel safe? That’s the question. Nigerians, we tell them that they haven’t done anything to us, they’re serving their lives. We, you must have an agenda,” he added. Speaking further, the Afenifere leader alleged that certain elements within the ruling party, including those who served in the previous administration, were willing to destroy the country to retain political power. “The last administration before the present government, that is to say, the government they still have there, just because they want to rule this nation, they had to go to the extent of importing foreign nationals, Fulanis to be precise, to come into the country and destroy the nation,” he alleged. “If they could not get power, they were prepared to destroy the nation. If anybody has that type of mind, what good can come out of it?” Meanwhile, last week, former President Goodluck Jonathan also made a startling revelation about Boko Haram's willingness to negotiate with the Nigerian government. Speaking at the public presentation of a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), Jonathan disclosed that the terrorist group had once nominated former President Muhammadu Buhari to represent them in peace talks with the government during his administration. "I felt that Muhammadu Buhari would have negotiated with Boko Haram to stop the killings since the sect once nominated him to represent them during a peace talk with the Federal Government," Jonathan said. He expressed his surprise that despite this nomination, the insurgency persisted during Buhari's presidency. According to Jonathan, his administration had set up several committees to explore dialogue with Boko Haram. "One of the committees we set up then, the Boko Haram nominated Buhari to lead their team to negotiate with the government committee," he revealed. Jonathan believed that this nomination could have been an opportunity for Buhari to negotiate with the terrorists when he took over as president. However, Jonathan noted that the issue of Boko Haram is more complex than often portrayed. He said, “I thought that after I left, within a reasonable time, General Buhari would wipe them out. But even today, Boko Haram is still there. The issue of Boko Haram is far more complex than it is often presented. “So, it’s a bit complex, and not a matter of a single story. But I believe, as a nation, we have to look at the Boko Haram issue differently from the conventional approach. I believe one day we’ll overcome it. Once again, let me thank General Irabor for this, because I always appreciate people who document events clearly. That way, when we write our own accounts, we can borrow from such documentation.” “I also believe that all the military officers involved in the Boko Haram saga should provide information about what the group truly stood for," he added. "If you conduct research and interview many people, you will only get part of the story, but never the full story of Boko Haram," he said. Jonathan also described the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls in 2014 as a permanent scar on his administration. https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/07/apc-thrives-deceit-manipulation-brought-foreign-fulanis-destroy-nigeria-afenifere-leader |

ABUJA – The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has declared spiritual independence from the Church of England, rejecting the appointment of Bishop Sarah Mullally as the new Archbishop of Canterbury. The Church said her support for same-sex marriage and her elevation as the first female to hold the position signify a troubling moral decline within the leadership of the Anglican Communion. In a statement by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, the Church described the announcement made on Friday, 3 October 2025, as ‘devastating’ and ‘insensitive,’ accusing the Church of England of ignoring the deep divisions already facing the global Anglican community. “This election is a double jeopardy. First, it disregards the conviction of the majority of Anglicans, who cannot accept female headship in the episcopate; and second, it is more disturbing that Bishop Sarah Mullally is a strong supporter of same-sex marriage,” the statement said. The statement recalled Bishop Mullally’s 2023 remarks following a vote by the Church of England to approve blessings for same-sex couples, in which she described the outcome as ‘a moment of hope’ for the Church. The Nigerian Church said such views deepen the wounds already tearing at the unity of the Anglican Communion. “It remains to be seen how the same person hopes to mend the already torn fabric of the Anglican Communion by the contentious same-sex marriage, which has caused enormous crisis across the Communion for over two decades,” the Church said. Describing the development as proof that the global Anglican world can no longer accept the leadership of the Church of England and that of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Church of Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to the Global Anglican Future Conference, GAFCON, and its principles. “On our part, as a member of the GAFCON family, the Church of Nigeria affirms the GAFCON position unreservedly, and reaffirms our earlier stance to uphold the authority of the Scriptures, our historic creeds, evangelism and holy Christian living, irrespective of the ongoing revisionist agenda,” the statement added. The Church urged conservative Anglicans in England and elsewhere to remain steadfast in defending biblical truth and resisting ‘ungodly’ teachings that compromise the Christian faith. “We encourage all faithful brothers and sisters in the Church of England who have consistently rejected the aberration called same-sex marriage and other ungodly teachings, by contending for the faith that was once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3),” the statement read. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/10/nigerias-anglican-church-breaks-from-canterbury-over-pro-gay-female-archbishop/ |

A British Airways (BA) flight from London to Abuja was diverted to Barcelona, Spain, in the early hours of Monday, after a retired Nigerian Air Vice Marshal from Anambra State died onboard. The aircraft, which departed London’s Heathrow Airport at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, was scheduled to land at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by 5:00 a.m. Monday. However, at about 1:30 a.m., the pilot declared a medical emergency and diverted to El Prat Airport in Barcelona. Sources told our correspondent that the deceased, believed to be in his early 80s, had been ill and was being flown back to Nigeria for further treatment when he passed away mid-flight. ad He was one of only a few surviving retired air vice marshals from Anambra State. The incident caused distress among passengers, with confusion onboard reportedly triggering a second medical emergency involving a pregnant woman. Her condition could not be immediately confirmed at press time. British Airways, in a message to passengers, apologised for the disruption and assured them of support. “Passengers are advised to expect an email with more information and can reach out to the airline’s Live Chat feature for support. British Airways acknowledges the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience and understanding,” the airline stated. The airline also confirmed that a replacement aircraft would continue the journey to Abuja. Initially scheduled to depart Barcelona at 2:00 p.m. local time and arrive in Abuja at 7:00 p.m., the departure was later adjusted to 2:50 p.m., with arrival expected around 5:45 p.m. Nigerian time. British Airways apologised for the disruption and provided a replacement aircraft. The new flight is scheduled to depart Barcelona at 2:50 pm local time, with an expected arrival time in Abuja of 5:45 pm local time. https://dailytrust.com/breaking-retired-air-vice-marshal-dies-on-abuja-bound-british-airways-flight/ |
