Ex-President Obasanjo Warns Nigeria’s Population Explosion Could Make 'Boko Haram A Child’s Play’ By 2050
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned that Nigeria’s surging population poses a grave threat to national stability, cautioning that failure to address it could unleash a crisis worse than Boko Haram.
Speaking on Tuesday at the inauguration of the Bakhita ICT Centre at the Catholic Secretariat in Sokoto State, Obasanjo stressed that education and knowledge remain the most potent tools for Nigeria’s survival and development.
“By the year 2050, people like the Sultan will be here. I am not praying to be here 25 years from now,” Obasanjo said.
“We will have the problem of 400 million Nigerians that have to be provided with food, work, that have to be satisfied. If we fail to prepare for that, Boko Haram of today will be a child’s play. We have to take care of it now.”
The former president urged Nigerians to embrace unity in diversity and reject divisive narratives being pushed by external actors.
“If our diversity is taken along with good governance with everybody being included, then we will get there. Not only will we be respected, we will be counted among the leading nations of the world,” he said.
Obasanjo also commended Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah for spearheading the ICT project, describing the new centre as a facility for all Nigerians—irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or gender.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, thanked Obasanjo for gracing the occasion and urged Nigerians to emulate his commitment to promoting unity.
The Sultan stressed the urgent need for collective action in tackling insecurity and fostering development.
Representing Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aminu Dikko, the Chief of Staff to the state government, praised both Obasanjo and the Catholic Diocese for the initiative.
He assured that the state government remains committed to promoting technology education as a way of creating opportunities for future generations. https://saharareporters.com/2025/10/01/ex-president-obasanjo-warns-nigerias-population-explosion-could-make-boko-haram-childs

Politics › Nigeria @65: Atiku Hails Nigerians’ Resilience Amid Hardship by iwaeda(op): 8:37am On Oct 01, 2025 |
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has lauded the resilience and endurance of Nigerians despite alleged biting economic hardship and insecurity, while faulting the All Progressives Congress-led government for failing to safeguard citizens’ welfare as the nation marks its 65th Independence anniversary.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku lamented that Nigerians continue to face harsh economic conditions and rising insecurity.
As Nigeria, which gained independence on October 1, 1960, turns 65 tomorrow, citizens have been sharing their reflections on the nation’s progress, challenges, and future prospects.
In his message, Atiku lamented that “Nigerians are enduring excruciating pains from raging insecurity, rising food scarcity, mass unemployment, and a dangerous climate of hopelessness, all compounded by the insensitivity of the APC-led administration.
“It is tragic that in a country blessed with immense human and material resources, millions of our people have been reduced to refugees and beggars in their fatherland. Every responsible government holds the welfare and security of its citizens as supreme. But what we have today is an administration that has abandoned its people. Hunger is killing Nigerians, bandits are massacring communities, yet President Tinubu and his cabinet stand by, unmoved and uncaring.
“Calling on citizens not to lose faith, Atiku reminded Nigerians that 2027 provides a clear opportunity to reject bad leadership and reclaim the promise of a better tomorrow.
“The beauty of democracy lies in the power of the ballot. Oppressed and battered as our people may feel today, they will have the chance to sweep away this inept government at the next polls. That is the power no cabal can take away from the people.”
Atiku encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope, stressing that with the right leadership, the nation can overcome years of failed governance and reclaim its rightful position among the community of nations.
The statement continued, “At 65, Atiku noted, Nigeria remains a giant moving painfully slow on the feet of clay, a direct result of decades of poor leadership and wasteful governance.”
Yet, he urged Nigerians to keep hope alive, insisting that with the right leadership, the country can still rise from the ashes of failed governance to reclaim its rightful place among the comity of nations.
“He wishes Nigerians a happy 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration.” https://punchng.com/nigeria-65-atiku-hails-nigerians-resilience-amid-hardship/

Politics › Adebimpe Akinola Dead! Fifth Female LG Official Dies In Lagos Within 2 Months by iwaeda(op): 12:26pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
JUST IN: Fifth Female Local Government Official Dies in Lagos Within Two Months Lagos State has recorded yet another tragic loss with the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, the Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Her passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, marks the fifth death of a female local government official in the state within just two months.
According to reports by thegazellenews, Mrs. Akinola, who until her death was the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, died after a brief illness. She was described as a dedicated administrator and the Head of Administration of Coker/Aguda LCDA.
News of her death was formally announced by the Forum of Council Managers in a statement that read: “With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”
The Forum further disclosed that she would be laid to rest according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Her Janazah Prayer is scheduled to take place at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, by 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Akinola’s passing adds to a growing list of female local government officials in Lagos State who have died in the short period since the inauguration of the present council administration on July 27, 2025. On August 13, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C in Ibeju Lekki Local Government died just weeks after her swearing-in. Barely five days later, on August 18, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C in Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA also passed away. The cycle of losses continued in September when Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died on September 20, followed by the death of Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, on September 21.
Her death, coming so soon after these others, has deepened the sense of grief and shock across Lagos councils, with many describing the string of tragedies as unprecedented in the state’s local government system. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D388KpGJy/

Politics › Bandits Kidnap Youth Leader’s Sons In Daylight Raid On Kwara Village by iwaeda(op): 7:17pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
Panic has gripped Essanti village in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed bandits abducted two sons of a community youth leader in a brazen daylight attack on Monday.
The victims were reportedly seized around 1:30 p.m. while returning from their farm.
Residents told NupekoTV that the abductors revealed to the victims that they were heading to Essanti after learning that villagers had begun fleeing the community out of fear of repeated night attacks.
A source who later communicated with the kidnappers disclosed that the attackers said abducting the youth leader’s sons would reduce the need for further night invasions, as the move was meant to intimidate residents and weaken the community’s resolve.
The victims, after confirming to their captors that they were from Essanti, were immediately taken hostage.
On Sunday night, bandits launched a violent raid on Marri Village in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state, leaving one person dead and another injured.
According to NupekoTV, the attack, which took place amid heavy rainfall between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm, saw the assailants storm the community and make away with several motorcycles.
“However, the military responded swiftly to the distress call. With the prompt intervention of the Nigerian Army, all the stolen motorcycles were successfully recovered from the fleeing criminals,” the report said.
According to the report, the swift intervention brought some relief to residents, though security concerns continue to plague Kwara North.
On Sunday, SaharaReporters reported an attack in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.
The Kwara State Police Command later confirmed that 12 vigilante members, including the Baale (Community leader) of Ogbayo, were killed during the armed attack on Sunday morning.
In a statement on Sunday, the command said the incident occurred at about 7:00 a.m. when gunmen invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode and opened fire indiscriminately.
“At about 7:00am today, armed men invaded the Ogbayo area of Oke-Ode, shooting sporadically. A combined team of police operatives and members of the National Forest Security Service responded swiftly to the scene, where they discovered 12 lifeless bodies of vigilante members, including the Baale of Ogbayo,” the statement read.
It added that the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while four others who were injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The command assured that efforts were underway, in collaboration with the military and the National Forest Security Service, to track down those responsible. https://saharareporters.com/2025/09/29/breaking-bandits-abduct-youth-leaders-sons-daylight-raid-kwara-village
