Local authorities confirmed that the release was the outcome of ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring peace and reducing violent attacks in the region.
Anotorious bandits commander, Isya Akwashi Garwa, armed with an AK-47 and ammunition, has released 28 abducted persons in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State following a peace arrangement.
Garwa handed over the captives to the local government council officials on Wednesday.
Those freed were largely residents of Mairua, Kanen-haki, and Yar Dabaru communities, who had been held in captivity by the bandits.
Local authorities confirmed that the release was the outcome of ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at restoring peace and reducing violent attacks in the region.
A security source, Zagazola Makama, also disclosed on X that community leaders in Faskari welcomed the development as a positive signal, urging both sides to sustain the "peace process."
They also appealed to the bandits leader to prevail on other groups still carrying out attacks in the area to desist.
The source explained that a council official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the captives were released in the afternoon without any ransom.
“The captives were released this afternoon without any ransom being paid. The bandit leader fulfilled his promise under the peace talks,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents expressed relief over the safe return of the abductees, with some calling for stronger security guarantees to build on the gesture.
Infotubia9ja: Actually not all the estate are all gone but 85% of it are not even worth habitable for humans not even for animals to live in. But still most people have no choice but to find a place to put their head as a roof to live in and it is such a pity. Those houses with roof when raining season comes the leaks on those roof are terrible. Anybody living in those estate can testify. Back in 2015 it was terrible to live in most of those places talk more 2025 present date. Kogi state has so much to offer if properly utilized they have iron, gold, all sorts of earth minerals but our leaders are not even worth to be there at all. A state so rich but yet so so very poor to live in. Fertile land for agriculture and live stock if I should add to that. Like i said, if our president/leaders want to go ahead and refubish that steel plant, they should just dont waste a dime there let them just embezzle the money for it and take it all instead of trying to sink a little chunk there. But if they are willing to go on full heads on, then every single metal down to the pin should be scrapped and sold as scrap and bring in all new I mean all new 2025 infrastructure from A to Z.
If truth be told, those mechinaries, metals are equivalent of 1980s folks wagons those cars cant even drive a mile without breaking down that is what that plant is equvalent to right now we need a 2025 upto date technology all automatic monitoring system intigated with advanced AI to proper prediction of iron product produced so every inpute and outputs is properly evaluated then and only then will that company excell for the next 50 to 79 years to come with maximum output and productivity.
If we can do this, we have solved a very big problem in our country. But as long as those wicked politicians want to patch up that place for their own benefit, let them just allow that dead dog to continue to rest in peace
I was there early 2000. Was supposed to work there, that was when OBJ tried to revive it. Even the Indians, Mittal or so that bought it ran away.
I said what Dangote is saying, they called Mr names. The last time I visited, it was a beautiful estate. I have said it, those metals are good for iron condemned.
Infotubia9ja: I schooled in kogi state in my uni days now I drive through that company as a means of short cut as a detour route to avoid the dilapidated road network full of muds and large potholes that can swallow a mini van. Now here is my own take on this. If the nigerian goverment is trying to say they will be wanting to restructure that company by doing some minor upgrades then believe me when I say it will never work.
Secondly, this company will only work to its full capacity if and if only every single metal and every equipment is scrapped and taken off and a new latest technology and all parts are used from present day 2025 installations. Not even 2023 equipments at all everything scrapped from the ground and new machineries all new even the gates leading to the company and the road network system all new must be done all the pipes layed down will be uprooted and brand new installed I mean like a new born baby everything old gone and everything new I mean bard new installed. Infact if you even go to the staff quters there and see the houses people are living there, no roof to even cover the building properly some now use lather plastic as roof tops.. In my honest opinion, it wold be better if the make a new company like use bulldozer, tear everything down like down and start a new production plant all equipments bought brand new from China and only China techs alone to come help in the installations.
Last I heard, the reason why the company fall was because different contractors from diffrent countries were handling diffrent areas and installations of diffrent types of mechinaries with diffrent specs so tell me how will that work. Everything needs to start over from scratch for this to work. If they are wanting to do the exact thing they did with NNPC refinery, let them just forget about it and move on to just proper embezzlement and not waste our time.
I read your comments and clapped for you, you are 100% correct. You mean they don't have roof. The last time I visited, it was a beautiful estate. I have said it, those metals are good for iron condemned.
Yahoo Yahoo politicians he meant, they just think foreigners can't read or see what is going on . How EFCC allows people like Yahyah Bello to be walking freely, but arresting school students.
When we were crying about this, they told us Buhari was doing well, just for their selfish ends. Many have been thrown to abject poverty, but one funny thing, many are still shackled by their oppressors. Next elections, the e-warriors will be hyping from there key boards and the foot soldiers, collect half kilogram of rice, beans and 2k to continue lamentations, Nlfpmod.
Please where will the farms be located? Is it Kwara, Benue, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina that bandits will ask for honorarium or isakole for people to access their farms.Stop wasting millions, if you can't negotiate with bandits..
Buhari's Policies Wrecked Nigeria’s Economy, Printing Of N22.7Trillion Destroyed Naira, Says Former Speaker Dogara
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has blamed the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari for destroying the value of the naira through reckless monetary policies, including the printing of N22.7 trillion under the guise of “ways and means.”
Dogara made the revelation in a viral video clip circulated on Tuesday, where he detailed how Buhari’s economic decisions plunged Nigeria into its current financial crisis.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu inherited a “wrecked” economy made worse by Buhari’s indiscriminate printing of trillions of naira, the controversial dual exchange rate regime, and mortgaging of crude oil sales for foreign loans.
“By the time President Tinubu took office, the economic debris of this nation had become too conspicuous to be ignored,” Dogara said.
“N22.7 trillion; we are all journalists here, we know this had been printed and injected into the economy in the name of ways and means, thereby destroying the value of the naira in our pockets.”
The former Speaker accused the Buhari administration of institutionalising economic sabotage by creating a dual foreign exchange system that favoured a select few.
“The dual exchange rate meant that some anointed people were making hundreds of millions of naira of forex allocations from the CBN without producing any goods or offering any services whatsoever,” he added.
Dogara further condemned the practice of tying crude oil sales to foreign loans through “forward sales” arrangements, describing the measure as fraudulent and unsustainable.
“Tying our crude sales to foreign loans in the name of forward sales of crude was fast becoming the order of the day. Some of the foreign loans had been procured in order to help strengthen the value of the naira, a measure that could only be sustained by what experts call voodoo economics,” he said.
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore had also accused Buhari and the former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele of deceiving Nigerians regarding the newly designed naira notes in 2022.
Buhari unveiled the new notes before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja, in November 2022.
Following the unveiling, Sowore noted on his Facebook page that the new designs had only changed the colours.
He said, “@GodwinIEmefiele of the @cenbank and @MBuhari just played Nigerians over the fraudulent so-called redesign of the Naira. Nothing was “redesigned” just a change of dye. Crooks! #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Senate, said that the bandit gang leaders and bandits should face justice or be “outrightly eliminated” rather than be offered peace agreement.
Asocial activist and former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, on Tuesday condemned the recent meeting held with wanted bandit kingpins and a group of armed herders to negotiate peace in Katsina State in North-West Nigeria.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Senate, said that the bandit gang leaders and bandits should face justice or be “outrightly eliminated” rather than be offered peace agreement.
SaharaReporters on Monday September 15, reported that residents of Katsina State’s Faskari Local Government Area on Sunday hosted a peace meeting with wanted bandit kingpin Ado Alero and a group of armed herders, in a bid to address the region’s worsening insecurity.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the gathering, which was attended by local traditional leaders and dozens of herders, many visibly carrying weapons and ammunition.
Alero, who represented the bandits during the dialogue, said the initiative was not the first of its kind in the area but described the turnout as unprecedented.
He recounted that tensions with security operatives began after the arrest of one of his followers, for which no explanation was given despite appeals to local and state authorities.
He further alleged that security agencies were also responsible for violence against Fulani communities, calling for justice and fairness from both the federal and state governments.
When asked about the meeting, Alero noted that this was not the first peace dialogue held in the Faskari community. He explained that similar peace efforts had also taken place in other parts of Katsina State.
SaharaReporters also reported that barely days after allegedly masterminding a deadly attack that left 32 worshippers dead at the Mantau Mosque in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina, bandit leader Babaro was seen on Sunday at the peace meeting in Faskari.
The bandits leader, who has for years terrorised communities in Kankara and Malumfashi, has been linked to multiple kidnappings, extortion schemes, and deadly raids.
His ability to appear unchallenged at a high-level peace dialogue has raised serious questions about the state of security and governance in the region.
Peace meetings of this nature have become a recurring strategy in Katsina and other troubled states across Nigeria’s northwest, where banditry and farmer-herder conflicts have left thousands dead and displaced countless families in recent years.
While proponents of dialogue argue that negotiation is essential to ending cycles of violence, critics say granting violent actors legitimacy without justice perpetuates impunity and weakens public trust.
Reacting to the peace meeting in a post on his verified X account (formerly Twitter), Sani wrote, “They are bandits gang leaders who killed and kidnapped thousands in North West Nigeria. They raped women.
“They are supposed to be brought to justice or outrightly eliminated in the theatre of operations, but our security forces repeatedly failed.”
Sani, a long-time commentator on security issues in the north pointed out a repetition of past, unsuccessful dialogue efforts and argued that the scale of atrocities committed by bandit groups rules out negotiation.
His post singled out previous peace efforts in Katsina and Zamfara and referenced well-known mediators involved in past talks.
“Ex-Governor Masari once tried the dialogue option in Katsina, but it failed. Katsina and Zamfara bandits have records of infidelity to agreements, even with the presence of Sheikh Gumi.
“This renewed attempt will be left to be seen. The shedding of innocent blood must come to an end, by any means practicable.”
North-west Nigeria has for years been battered by banditry, raids on villages, mass kidnappings for ransom, and attacks on places of worship and markets, leading to thousands of deaths and large numbers of displaced persons.
Security analysts and international monitors say the conflict is complex, involving criminal networks, competition over resources, and porous borders that allow fighters to regroup.
Recent local peace accords have sometimes produced surrenders or the release of some captives, but critics argue they have at times failed to stop further attacks or to bring leaders to formal justice.
Government responses to peace initiatives have varied by state.
Some governors and traditional leaders have defended negotiated settlements as pragmatic steps to save lives, while others and many civil society figures have warned that deals can embolden fighters and undermine long-term security.

The Presidency has faulted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the economy, describing his comments on hunger and poverty as misleading and out of touch with reality.
Atiku, in a statement issued on Monday through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, had warned that worsening poverty and hunger in the country could spark social unrest similar to the French, Russian, and Arab Spring revolutions.
He argued that after more than two years in office, there were “no manifest signs that this government is capable of addressing the grim issue of severe hunger staring the poor in the face.”
But in a swift rebuttal via a statement on Monday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Atiku’s remarks were disconnected from the “authentic Nigerian reality.”
“Talk is cheap. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his handlers are clearly out of touch with the positive developments currently unfolding in our country,” Onanuga said.
He dismissed Atiku’s comparison of Nigeria’s current challenges to historical revolutions as “grossly misleading,” insisting that recent data paints a more optimistic picture of the economy.
“Just today, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released its figures for August, showing that headline inflation has declined for the fifth consecutive month. Over the weekend, the NBS also reported a record trade surplus, with the contribution of non-oil exports to our trade balance now nearly matching that of crude oil at a ratio of 48:52 per cent,” Onanuga noted.
According to him, Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen to nearly $42 billion, up from $32 billion when Tinubu assumed office, even after clearing over $7 billion in arrears, including $800 million owed to international airlines.
He added that the administration is recording unprecedented revenues, enabling states to pay salaries and gratuities promptly while still funding capital and social projects.
“Nigeria is moving in the right direction. In contrast, Atiku and his party remain stuck in the past, fixated on doomsday scenarios and revolutionary rhetoric. Ironically, many of the challenges we face today stem from the economic mismanagement during the PDP years, when Atiku was vice president,” Onanuga said.
He stressed that after two years and five months in office, Tinubu’s government has shown progress with “bold reforms” and Nigerians “can see and feel the positive changes taking place across the nation.”
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says inflation figure dropped to 20.12 percent in the month of August.
A report released on Monday said food inflation also dropped to 1.65% when compared to the 3.12% recorded in the month of July.
It attributed the decline to the drop in the average prices of rice (Imported), rice (local), guinea corn flour, maize flour sold loose, guinea corn (sorghum), millet, Semolina, Soya milk etc.
The report stated that the August figure was 1.76 percent drop when compared to the inflation rate of 21.88 percent in July.
Kidnappers kill ward head in Plateau Tokyo 2025: Tobi Amusan clinches silver in 100m hurdles “On a year-on-year basis, the Headline inflation rate was 12.03% lower than the rate recorded in August 2024 (32.15%). This shows that the Headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) decreased in August 2025 compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., August 2024), though with a different base year, November 2009 = 100.”
“On a month-on-month basis, the Headline inflation rate in August 2025 was 0.74%, which was 1.25% lower than the rate recorded in July 2025 (1.99%). This means that in August 2025, the rate of increase in the average price level was lower than the rate of increase in the average price level in July 2025.
“The Food inflation rate in August 2025 was 21.87% on a year-on-year basis. This was 15.65% points lower compared to the rate recorded in August 2024 (37.52%). The significant decline in the annual food inflation figure is technically due to the change in the base year.
“On a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in August 2025 was 1.65%, down by 1.47% compared to July 2025 (3.12%). The decrease can be attributed to the rate of decline in the average prices of Rice (Imported), Rice (local), Guinea corn flour, Maize flour sold loose, Guinea Corn (Sorghum), Millet, Semolina, Soya milk etc.”
“The average annual rate of Food inflation for the twelve months ending August 2025 over the previous twelve-month average was 25.75%, which was 11.24% points lower compared with the average annual rate of change recorded in August 2024 (36.99%).”
Recent developments surrounding the proposed amendments to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the planned divestment of significant equity in key joint ventures within the oil and gas sector are disconcerting.
While I have consistently advocated for liberalization and the revitalization of underperforming state-owned enterprises, including through privatization where necessary, it is imperative that such efforts are guided by transparency, national interest, and long-term strategic value.
The Petroleum Industry Act was enacted to bring clarity, accountability, and investor confidence to a sector long plagued by opacity. Any attempt to amend its core provisions must be approached with caution and broad stakeholder engagement.
The reported plans to reduce the Federation’s stakes in joint ventures such as RAEC JV, Oando JV, and Seplat Energy JV, especially under terms that appear to disproportionately favour select insiders and foreign entities, risk undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty over its most strategic resources.
These moves, if not properly managed, could erode public trust, destabilize the sector, and compromise our energy security.
The Federal Government must ensure that any privatization exercise is conducted with full transparency, guided by competitive bidding, and subject to rigorous public scrutiny. The process must reflect our shared commitment to protecting Nigeria’s economic future and ensuring that the benefits of our natural resources are equitably distributed.
We must resist the temptation to pursue short-term gains at the expense of Nigeria’s national interest and long-term national stability. -AA
We will only be patient, after we received prayer alert in our emails. Everything has gone under the bus, no good roads, Band A light is pure stealing. Imagine people begging for their children's school fees on social media. This is just Tinubu's first term, just think aloud his second term. More taxes and another level of unsavoury taxes.
