This is the results of Federal Government neglect of igbos in Nigeria over the years

In my political ward as a whole, only one man is a federal government worker and he is even a police man, the few others are university teachers based on merit yet many of my class mates in Adamawa and Taraba are dully employed in federal agencies without qualifications

That's why I said the real victims of the civil war was the Niger Delta people and they barely say anything about it.

The world is watching.

When American superstar streamer iShowSpeed visited Lagos in January 2026, his livestream exposed millions of people around the world to the realities of moving through parts of the city. Crowds followed his convoy, some repeatedly shouted for money, and his security team had to intervene as the situation became difficult to control. At one point, Speed was advised to take cover inside a shop.

That visit generated a huge conversation in Nigeria about what happens when the world is watching us through the camera of an international visitor.

And it was not just about iShowSpeed.

In September 2026, Chinese travel vlogger Xiao Johnny (Jony) also shared an account of alleged harassment during his Nigeria visit. His account has not been independently verified by Nigerian authorities, so it should be treated as his personal account rather than proof that every foreign visitor experiences the same thing. Nevertheless, the incident generated significant discussion about how visitors are treated.

There is another interesting example.

That statement is important.

It means the problem is not that Lagos cannot improve.

The question is why should the city stop there?

Why should a foreigner arriving through Murtala Muhammed International Airport encounter people begging, touts demanding money, chaotic traffic, poorly managed commercial areas and dirty streets before they even settle into the city?

Why should someone visiting Nigeria for the first time have to negotiate with unofficial street collectors or people aggressively demanding money?

This is particularly important because Lagos is often Nigeria's front door to the world.

A visitor arriving from London, New York, Paris, Dubai, Johannesburg or Beijing may enter Nigeria through Lagos.

Before they see our universities, technology companies, manufacturing centres, beautiful resorts, cultural institutions or historic cities, they may first experience the roads leading from the airport.

Their first impression of Nigeria can therefore be heavily influenced by what they encounter in Lagos.

And that is why criticism of Lagos should not automatically be interpreted as an attack on Lagos.

Sometimes criticism is simply a demand for improvement.

We need to clean the city.

We need better waste management.

We need stronger enforcement against illegal dumping.

We need to properly regulate street trading.

We need to deal decisively with touts and illegal collections.

We need to address street begging humanely while preventing harassment of motorists, residents and visitors.

And the airport corridors should be treated as Nigeria's international showroom.

Imagine arriving in Lagos and seeing clean roads, properly managed markets, organised transport, attractive public spaces, disciplined traffic and people who welcome visitors without harassing them for money.

That Lagos would sell Nigeria to the world without saying a word.

Nobody is asking Lagos to lose its character.

Nobody wants Lagos to become sterile or artificial.

The energy, creativity, hustle and vibrancy are part of what makes Lagos Lagos.

But energy should not mean disorder.

Hustle should not mean harassment.

Hospitality should not become begging.

A megacity should have standards.

Lagos has the money, human capital and economic importance to demand much higher standards from itself.

And we should not wait for another international celebrity to visit before we realise that millions of people are watching.

The cameras are already here.

The world is watching Lagos.

Let us give them a Lagos that Nigerians can proudly defend — not because we deny its problems, but because we have actually solved them.

What we have in Kogi are Igbo settlers who settled in Kogi many years ago and some were born in Kogi. Go to sabon gari in Kano and you will find many Igbos who were born in Kano and they speak fluent Hausa
