To all who have been asking or wondering: there is a difference between ESN and Unknown Gunmen.


1. ESN is the group that was formed Dec 12 2020 for Eastern Security.

They are the ones Nigeria Army has searched for but never gotten in several battles such as that at Nsukka (forest), Orlu, all between January and about June 2021. (Before army tactically realised their superiority).

They are civil except the Imo State Command under the Ikonso that was largely involved in a lot of rubbish. Unsurprisingly, that command also suffered the largest number of casualties till about late 2021, such as the surprise killing of Ikonso, capture of one Raphael, Onye Army etc (all Imo State).

All ESN in Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Rivers, etc have never been caught. Rather they have shot army whenever engaged till army left them. (Army once engaged them for more than 48 hours at their Nsukka forest base).


2. Unknown Gunmen on the other hand are a group of touts formed after ESN. Some of their early activities where in Ebonyi State such as the release of prisoners from a jail break. Since then their activities have become tuned to the killing of police men, arsonist attacks on abandoned stations.

They are the ones that go about killing people on Mondays, and those carrying out other sort of activities. They are the ones Soludo was talking about, and one of whose camp was recently bursted.
